05:01 Manderson Pardon my ignorance, but if a bibliographic record gets stuck in the 'reservoir', how do I get it out and in to the catalog?
05:02 eythian when cataloguing, you can search the reservoir I think.
05:03 eythian So you catalogue based on that record, and when you save it, it'll be in the catalogue.
05:03 eythian Alternately, if it's there as part of a staged MARC file, you can import it through the interface for sorting that stuff
05:03 eythian (which is under "Tools")

05:21 BobB does anyone know if the en-nz translation is actively maintained?

05:24 mtj im not sure which kiwi has been maintaining the file, chris/robin will prolly know

10:30 vfernandes hi guys :)
10:32 vfernandes anyone had sucessfully updated a koha 2.2.X to 3.8?
10:32 vfernandes which could be the best way?
10:42 slef vfernandes: export catalogue, import again
10:44 vfernandes the client wants to mantain the circulation history
10:45 vfernandes so a new migration is the last option...
10:46 vfernandes if I install the 3.0 the database isn't updated?
10:46 slef could see how much the history tables have changed but I suspect at least you'd want to step via 3.0, then to 3.8 running the special 3.4 item-splitter.
10:47 vfernandes http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Upgrading_2.2
10:47 vfernandes i'm seeing this page to update 2.2 to 3.0
10:47 vfernandes then I've to update to 3.8

14:50 fudm :jcamins:packages i assume! i dont know the diff between packages and tarball
14:50 jcamins fudm: did you download a file called "koha-3.08.06.tar.gz"?
14:51 jcamins If you did, you used the tarball.
14:51 fudm :jcamins:yes i downloaded that
14:51 jcamins That's unfortunate.

14:52 jcamins Yeah, definitely tarball.
14:53 fudm :jcamins: sorry, was the faq for me?
14:53 jcamins Yes.
14:53 jcamins faq?
14:53 wahanui faq is found at http://koha-community.org/documentation/faq/
14:53 jcamins The very last question addresses this.
14:53 fudm :jcamins: i followed this to create a cron job during koha installation "5 - Setup Zebra Server to Automatically Start on Boot Up   $ sudo ln -s /usr/share/koha/bin/koha-zebra-ctl.sh /etc/init.d/koha-zebra-daemon $ sudo update-rc.d koha-zebra-daemon defaults $ sudo /etc/init.d/koha-zebra-daemon start"
14:53 jcamins That has nothing to do with cron.
14:54 jcamins That's setting up Zebra to run when the system starts.
14:54 jcamins Which is also important.
14:54 wahanui okay, jcamins.

15:02 fudm :jcamins: using this "export PERL5LIB=/path/to/your/koha/"
15:02 jcamins Right.

15:03 jcamins And `export KOHA_CONF=/etc/koha/koha_conf.xml`
15:03 fudm :jcamins: am presently searching for the PERL5LIB
15:04 jcamins You'll find all this in the instructions, too.
15:04 fudm :jcamins: ok, let me follow the instructions then revert back to you
15:05 jcamins I believe it is `export PERL5LIB=/usr/share/koha`
15:06 fudm :jcamins: am i just to "run export PERL5LIB=/usr/kohalocation" from the terminal(cmd lin)
15:06 jcamins Right.

15:13 fudm am i to run this export KOHA_.... from the unzipped koha3.0806 folder?
15:13 jcamins BTW, for those who were concerned, the snow was not nearly as bad as I was anticipating. Just a couple of inches at most.
15:13 jcamins It doesn't matter what folder you run it from.
15:14 jcamins However, you should be using the folders where Koha was installed, not the folder where you unzipped Koha.
15:15 fudm ok, that is the "usr/share/koha" right?
15:16 jcamins I think so.
15:16 jcamins I don't use the tarball for installing.

15:22 mtj you know what our problem is?
15:22 mtj this page should aggressively recommend using the koha packages for beginner installs -> http://koha-community.org/download-koha

15:26 jcamins And they are all very, very tall so you don't want that.
15:27 mtj ^^ ill ask liz about it, next time i see her
15:28 jcamins Oh, I think I can edit downloads.k-c.org.
15:28 jcamins If you'd like to e-mail the lists to make sure people agree?
15:29 mtj *and* that very same suggestion on -> http://download.koha-community.org, too
15:30 mtj jcamins, yep - will do
15:30 slef careful not to alienate the non-debs
15:30 jcamins I think it's more important on download.k-c.org, actually.
15:30 slef also should promote the livecd for newbies too
15:30 jcamins slef: first there needs to be a new LiveCD.
15:31 oleonard <crickets>
15:31 jcamins Right now the most up-to-date LiveCD is... not new.
15:31 mtj and google-groups - to share our stories...
15:31 slef jcamins: nah, olderversions are ok for first tries IMO
15:31 * slef goes to get mtj's leg bone

15:32 slef jcamins: so write that there.  "Try this out. Don't use it for real sites." or something
15:32 slef "real sites because the upgrade path is not good/there"
15:32 jcamins That's the plan, and the reason we have a LiveCD manager.
15:32 slef JFDI
15:32 * jcamins isn't creating a livecd.
15:33 slef It's already there, people already use them, let's at least tell them the score.
15:33 jcamins And I'm not encouraging anyone to use a misconfigured version of Koha that's six months old.
15:33 jcamins *I* am the one who is on #koha when they show up and ask why it's broken who is dumb enough to try to help.
15:35 jcamins Regarding non-Debian distros, I think a note like "If you are using a deb-based distro (for example, Debian or Ubuntu), you are strongly encouraged to use the packages for production installations, since the packages automatically handle a lot of the inconvenient configuration."
15:36 slef that's ok
15:37 mtj i think we all want less n00bs having koha problems, caused by bad install decisions
15:37 mtj … that we then have to help fix :/
15:39 mtj theres much good info about install stuff on the wiki, but many people never even get that far - it seems…

15:42 jcamins (I'm not sure if there are any)
15:42 jcamins Manderson: in answer to your question much earlier, when you save a record it should go into the catalog. Most likely the problem is that you don't have the rebuild_zebra cronjobs running.

15:43 mtj hey caser

20:05 jcamins_away Resurrecting?
20:05 jcamins_away What happened to it?
20:05 chris_n yup, and an additional switch could produce package names instead of module names
20:05 chris_n it was on a HDD from my old system
20:06 chris_n I'm attempting to move it over intact
20:08 chris_n jcamins_away: I'll look at the package thing too while I'm mucking around
20:10 jcamins_away That might be nice. mtompset wrote a script to generate that, but if we could centralize, I would like that.
20:11 jcamins_away Especially if we could do it in a way that makes it possible to store RPM/AUR package names, too.
20:11 chris_n so what part of this vimrc do I change to rid myself of all the '^I' : http://paste.koha-community.org/264
20:11 * chris_n gives up trying
20:12 jcamins_away set expandtab
20:12 chris_n jcamins_away: it should be trivial to do
20:12 chris_n ahh
20:12 chris_n tnx
20:12 chris_n I owe you some chocolate
20:12 jcamins_away :)
20:13 chris_n argh
20:13 chris_n they're still there :-P
20:13 jcamins_away Yeah, vim does not automatically replace tabs with four spaces everywhere.
20:13 jcamins_away Unlike Emacs, which massacres every file you open.
20:14 rangi i call bs
20:14 chris_n so are we using tabs or spaces now, and how many
20:14 rangi maybe your emacs does that
20:14 jcamins_away rangi: I know.
20:14 rangi mine doesnt
20:14 jcamins_away I don't use Emacs, and libsysguy is never going to live down the time he reindented most of the Koha codebase.
20:15 chris_n anyone remember the "brief" line editor?
20:15 jcamins_away chris_n: we're using 4 tabs.
20:15 libsysguy okay really
20:15 libsysguy first you summon me
20:15 chris_n 4 tabs!
20:15 libsysguy then you insult my favorite editor
20:15 jcamins_away Spaces.
20:15 jcamins_away Sorry.
20:15 libsysguy what is this board coming to
20:15 libsysguy lol
20:15 libsysguy yeah make sure they are spaces and not tabs or paul_p will stab you in the eye
20:16 * chris_n is going to rip out these tabs then
20:16 chris_n :retab to the rescue
20:16 libsysguy M-x untabify
20:16 jcamins_away M-x giveusreasonstomakefunofthejuniorQAA :P
20:16 rangi but do not put spaces in the history.txt that is a tab seperated file ... ill stab you if you do that ;)
20:17 * rangi has fixed that a bunch of times now
20:17 cait1 but we don#t use tabs...
20:17 cait1 we use 4 spaces.. :P
20:17 chris_n so can't we add editor directives to the tops of our files?
20:17 jcamins_away cait1: except in the history fire, which is a tab-separated CSV.
20:17 jcamins_away *file
20:18 chris_n jcamins_away: retab is it
20:18 chris_n After the 'expandtab' option is set, all the new tab characters entered will be changed to spaces. This will not affect the existing tab characters.
20:19 jcamins_away Right. I thought you were trying to prevent your typing from creating new tabby abominations.
20:19 jcamins_away (as opposed to tabby cats, which we like)
20:19 * chris_n is persecuting existing tabby abominations
20:19 * libsysguy prefers tabs
20:19 libsysguy because I'm lazy
20:19 chris_n I'll submit two patches then
20:20 * chris_n thought tab was something you drink
20:20 jcamins_away I think sometime in 2007 or something like that someone went through and removed all the editor definitions. rangi might know why.
20:20 jcamins_away ?
20:20 jcamins_away *?
20:20 * jcamins_away is not used to this keyboard.
20:21 chris_n do we have a bug for general style cleanup?
20:21 jcamins_away I'm not sure, actually.
20:21 rangi cos they were kados?
20:22 jcamins_away rangi: but why would he do something like that? Or is it just a mystery?
20:22 chris_n sounds likely
20:23 rangi why would he fork, and cause me to have to read and write affadavits?
20:23 rangi there's no understanding that guy
20:23 oleonard That's for sure.
20:23 rangi or the people who copy his madness and perpetuate it
20:23 cait1 what are those removed editor statements?
20:24 chris_n they tell your editor what style to use
20:24 rangi and are harmless to everything else
20:24 chris_n it appears there is not bug for general style improvements/fixes
20:25 * chris_n will add one
20:26 chris_n bug 9037

20:27 cait1 chris_n/rangi: thx :)
20:27 chris_n so much for a working search
20:27 chris_n needs keywords
20:27 mtj chris_n, yeah
20:28 mtj chris_n, Bug 7119
20:28 chris_n yup
20:28 chris_n just marked mine as a duplicate
20:29 chris_n what a rough way to get keywords in ;-)
20:29 mtj heh, no, im waiting for huginn to reload the bug title….
20:29 chris_n ahh
20:30 mtj (i just stuffed more keywords in the title)
20:31 mtj oooh, i just spotted the keywords field  :)
20:31 chris_n cool
20:36 rangi melia++
20:36 rangi 9 signoffs for november so far
20:36 melia I'm gonna win, rangi! :)
20:36 rangi hehe
20:36 melia until you guys do the weekend thing anyway...
20:38 oleonard Bug 7671 is the cause of the fine-paying regression.
20:38 huginn Bug http://bugs.koha-community.org[…]w_bug.cgi?id=7671 enhancement, P5 - low, ---, stephane.delaune, Pushed to Master , add a real primary key "accountlinesid" in accountlines
20:38 cait1 melia: do you speak german? I have some easy patches waiting for sign-off ;)
20:38 oleonard And that bisect was pain in the ass.
20:38 chris_n so are we still sending patches to the list? or just git-bz'ing them to bz?
20:38 cait1 oleonard: ouch.
20:38 cait1 but good catch
20:38 jcamins_away chris_n: both.
20:38 jcamins_away Use git-bz -m
20:39 melia I don't speak German. sorry cait1. if it were in Spanish, maybe!
20:39 cait1 melia: it's ok :)
20:39 oleonard File a new bug about the regression or add a comment to the existing bug?
20:40 jcamins_away File a new bug.
20:40 cait1 hm, maybe a new one and link?
20:40 jcamins_away I've decided I don't like comments on existing bugs.
20:40 jcamins_away They're a lot easier to miss.
20:40 rangi yep
20:40 cait1 ... and he is rm :)
20:40 rangi i think once its pushed
20:41 rangi new bug
20:41 rangi up until its pushed comments on the bug
20:41 jcamins_away Right.
20:41 jcamins_away But a lot of people comment on bugs after they've been pushed.
20:41 rangi yep
20:42 jcamins_away That's why we're closing scads of bugs on the release of 3.10.
20:42 cait1 jcamins_away: is it easy to generate release notes? I would like to take a look at a list of the features and bugs for testing purposes
20:43 jcamins_away Very.
20:43 jcamins_away Clone the release-tools repo.
20:44 jcamins_away cd ~/kohaclone; ~/release-tools/get_bugs.pl -t v3.08.00; vim misc/release_notes/release_notes_3_9_0.txt
20:44 jcamins_away I may have that file name slightly off.
20:44 jcamins_away But still.
20:44 jcamins_away Easy.
20:44 rangi bug 8872

20:44 rangi that looks like a candidate for 3.8.x to me
20:45 jcamins_away Yes.
20:45 jcamins_away Definitely.
20:45 cait1 jcamins_away: I will try, adding repo now
20:46 jcamins_away I generated it many times this morning while editing the file.

20:47 cait1 jcamins_away: ah
20:47 cait1 jcamins_away: can I send a patch for it?
20:47 jcamins_away Yes.
20:47 cait1 because we don't have a hyphen really
20:48 cait1 BSZ BW
20:48 cait1 or only BSZ, but no -
20:48 chris_n t/Cache_Memcached.t also requires memcached; fixing it too
20:49 jcamins_away In gitdm/domain-map?
20:49 cait1 yep
20:50 jcamins_away Fixed.
20:50 cait1 awesome thx
20:50 cait1 jcamins++
20:50 cait1 ok, now trying to make release notes :)
20:53 chris_n so shouldn't we put tests for optional modules into a separate dir?
20:53 chris_n like db tests are?
20:54 jcamins_away chris_n: that's a good idea.
20:54 chris_n ie. t/Cache_Memcached.t
20:54 oleonard Aaaaand that's why I needed a sanity check.
20:54 oleonard Because I was crazy.
20:54 cait1 hm?
20:55 cait1 you didn#t seem crazy to me
20:55 chris_n depends on your standard of crazy
20:55 cait1 ah right... might be my perspective
20:55 oleonard And by crazy, I mean my database hadn't been updated when bug 7671 was pushed.
20:55 huginn Bug http://bugs.koha-community.org[…]w_bug.cgi?id=7671 enhancement, P5 - low, ---, stephane.delaune, Pushed to Master , add a real primary key "accountlinesid" in accountlines
20:55 cait1 oleonard: that does  not sound good
20:56 jcamins_away oleonard: do you have an accountlines.id column?
20:56 oleonard I reset my version number and the update happened correctly. I assume that means it got lost in the shuffle
20:56 oleonard I do now jcamins_away
20:57 jcamins_away Ah, no, I'm wondering about a column called "id" in the accountlines table.
20:57 jcamins_away That patch added a column called "accountlinesid."
20:58 oleonard No, I don't have accountlines.id
20:59 cait joined #koha
20:59 cait I won't miss my dad's bad internet connection
20:59 jcamins_away Okay. Just wondering.
21:01 oleonard Guh, I think that's enough for today.
21:01 cait jcamins_away: it worked perfectly, thx for the hints
21:01 cait and btw, you are not really away :)
21:01 cait oleonard++
21:01 rangi jcamins_away: how far are you away from 96th in rockaway?
21:01 jcamins_away rangi: pretty far. Especially since there's no train service out to Rockaway.
21:01 jcamins_away Why?
21:01 rangi my brother in law manages http://robertaspizza.com/
21:02 rangi he has a stocked up van, needs a driver to drive out there to hand out food
21:02 rangi (from roberta's to 96th that is)
21:02 rangi just was wondering if you were anywhere near there
21:02 jcamins_away Ah. Nope.

21:06 cait jcamins: release notes look great - did you do the sub headings from bug categories?
21:06 jcamins_away cait: no, that was Paul's change this morning.
21:07 cait ah ok
21:07 cait was wondering how the highlights get sleected
21:07 cait because those seem to be bugs
21:07 cait and not new features
21:07 jcamins_away Critical and blockers.
21:07 cait that doesn't seem ideal to me
21:07 maximep aaaaaaah what a nice day... had fun with bug 4054. 3 hours to find that :/

21:08 jcamins_away Blocker, critical, and major, I guess.

21:09 Manderson Hi all - can someone tell me if the raw MARC record is stored in a table inside the koha database?
21:09 jcamins_away Manderson: yes it is. It's in biblioitems. However...
21:09 jcamins_away first question?
21:09 wahanui "What are you trying to do?" or "What is the goal?"
21:11 Manderson We have some custom scripts and software that operate on the raw marc record and I want to ensure that we can still operate with those.
21:11 Manderson We're on a Voyager system right now and I am evaluating Koha as a viable alternative
21:11 rangi read only scripts?
21:11 Manderson Yes
21:12 rangi that will be fine then
21:12 jcamins_away Then, yeah, that'll work fine.
21:12 rangi just don't go changing stuff without using the api
21:12 jcamins_away If you want to edit records, you need to use the API, though.
21:12 rangi *snap*
21:12 rangi Manderson: biblioitems.marc and biblioitems.marcxml
21:12 jcamins_away rangi and I are in agreement on this.
21:13 rangi depending on what format you want it in
21:13 Manderson thanks guys!
21:13 rangi however
21:13 rangi that does not contain itemdata
21:13 rangi ie holdings
21:14 rangi if you want the item level info too
21:14 rangi you need to call GetMarcBiblio
21:14 rangi off the top of my head
21:14 Manderson Biblioitems doesn't contain item information?
21:14 jcamins_away Right.
21:14 rangi nope
21:14 Manderson that seems a bit misleading :P
21:15 jcamins_away Koha used to have FRBR.
21:15 jcamins_away So there was a biblio, a biblioitem, and an item.
21:15 jcamins_away It lost that when it started using MARC, but not the table names.
21:16 Manderson So, I am just guessing that when a bib is imported, it gets parsed and put into biblioitem and biblios?
21:16 jcamins_away Right.
21:16 Manderson and when it's updated, there are triggers to go back and update those tables too?
21:16 jcamins_away Yes.
21:16 jcamins_away But they're not database-level.
21:17 jcamins_away That's why you *must* use the API.
21:17 Manderson Perl level?
21:17 jcamins_away Yes.
21:17 Manderson Fair enough...
21:17 Manderson Thanks for explanation
21:17 jcamins_away Also, the marcxml and marc fields should be kept in sync or bad things happen.
21:17 Manderson BTW, I was successful in my test for checking out, checking in, adding and searching for bibs on my red hat installation
21:18 jcamins_away Which points to using the API which takes care of that for you.
21:18 jcamins_away Hooray!
21:18 jcamins_away Did you take notes?
21:18 Manderson I have notes, and plan to write them up on the Wiki
21:18 jcamins_away Hooray!
21:18 jcamins_away Manderson++
21:19 Manderson I am no red hat guru though, so I won't be able to do any RPMs
21:19 Manderson :(
21:20 jcamins_away You could learn!
21:20 * chris_n heads out
21:20 jcamins_away I didn't know anything about Debian packaging a year ago, and now I know a lot. :)
21:20 jcamins_away ;)
21:21 Manderson I've DONE them before...but I am far from well-versed in Red Hat. I am a Solaris admin
21:22 jcamins_away Probably a wise decision to try to install Koha on Red Hat before Solaris.
21:23 rangi ive had it going on solaris
21:23 rangi its not that bad
21:24 rangi in terms of proprietary pieces of crap OSes anyway :)
21:24 Manderson I have to say that sometimes, even thought it can be a pain in the ass, Solaris has never let me down in terms of reliablity.
21:25 eythian hi
21:25 wahanui privet, eythian
21:25 rangi give oracle time
21:25 rangi they'll fix it's reliability too
21:25 jcamins_away lol
21:25 Manderson *shutter*
21:25 Manderson Yeah, they'll fix it REEEEAAALLL GOOD
21:26 Manderson By making it a pay-for option
21:26 jcamins_away Stability?

21:58 claire rangi, there's this mesage software error: when I try to view details for a patron.
21:58 claire The 'month' parameter ("0") to DateTime::new did not pass the 'an integer between 1 and 12' callback  at /usr/lib/perl5/DateTime.pm line 194
21:58 rangi what version of koha?
21:59 claire those are the first two lines
21:59 rangi most likely the person has either an invalid date of birth
21:59 claire 3.8
21:59 rangi or expiry
21:59 rangi 3.8.x?
21:59 wahanui i think 3.8.x is missing 7805
21:59 rangi 3.8.6 ?
21:59 claire 3.8.4
22:00 rangi either way, its probably to do with bad data fro that patron, the have 00 as a month
22:00 rangi how did you create the patron?
22:00 wizzyrea joined #koha
22:01 rangi hi wizzyrea
22:01 claire I'll check that but there are two patrons so far I have came across with the same problem
22:01 rangi yep
22:01 rangi how did you create them?
22:02 claire create what?
22:02 rangi the patrons
22:02 rangi if it was a data import id suspect that munged the dates
22:03 rangi it will be one of the dates, expiry, birth
22:03 claire using new patron
22:03 rangi registration
22:03 rangi or it could be one of the issues has a bad date
22:03 claire okay
22:04 rangi some date to do with that patron has gotten 00 as a month
22:05 rangi its quite likely its 0000-00-00 in the db
22:05 claire how can I deal with the issue?
22:06 rangi you have to find the invalid date, and fix it
22:06 claire The date of birth of that particular patron is written as 15/07/1982
22:07 rangi it wont be that then
22:07 rangi ive never seen this error except from an import, or from someone changing things in the database
