00:05 dcook Hmm, I wonder if it would be interesting to patrons to be able to download their circulation history
00:05 rangi maybe, wouldnt be hard to add that opion
00:05 rangi option even
00:05 dcook Yeah, I was just thinking that
00:06 dcook I was just skimming this:
00:07 dcook At first I thought he was side-stepping the question on open source to focus on open data, but then he talks about how they really ought go hand in hand
00:07 rangi open data is useless without open source
00:07 rangi its just bits
00:07 rangi without software to deal with it
00:08 dcook Yeah, they talk a bit about that as well
00:08 dcook Well, not in the context of open source
00:08 dcook per se
00:08 dcook But open standards/context
00:08 dcook Although they refer to it as "portable"
00:11 dcook "There are kids programming in Scala because that’s how you build shit on Minecraft!"
00:11 dcook hehe
00:12 dcook Hmm, too long to actually read
00:13 dcook But yeah going back to the circ history thing. I wonder how many people would...
00:13 dcook In theory, I like the idea, but it probably wouldn't be useful for me
00:13 dcook I rather use Goodreads as it's more inclusive of all my reading
00:13 dcook But then I have to manually do that..
00:24 rangi i did some work on integrating goodreads
00:24 rangi got bored when amazon bought them and stopp
00:24 rangi ed
00:24 rangi i think there is some code on a bug or 2
00:25 rangi id work on it if someone was paying me, but for a fun project in my free time, amazon doesnt need my help
00:27 dcook ^
00:27 dcook Yeah, I was tempted to work on integrating them as well before Amazon bought them
00:27 dcook I'd use a different service if there was another convenient option, but for now I keep chugging along
00:27 rangi *nod*
00:28 dcook Back when I was wrapping up my MLIS in 2012, I thought about building something myself to track all sorts of different media consumption
00:28 dcook Books, music, tv shows, films, etc.
00:28 dcook Rather than relying on say Goodreads and a bunch of different services
00:28 dcook I thought about exploring whether Imdb lets you track things, but I got bored with that as well

01:03 eythian[…]ms-of-2014-so-far <-- there is some good stuff in here.
01:04 dcook eythian: Any news about Zebra 2.0.60 in Debian?
01:04 eythian no news
01:05 dcook :(
01:05 eythian tbh, I don't expect much to happen, it's too close to release
01:05 dcook Yeah, that makes sense
01:05 dcook Hmm, I think I"ve only heard of maybe one or two of those artists!
01:08 eythian yeah, same with me.
01:08 eythian I went through and listened to the sample, and queued up about 8 albums worth of the ones I liked for further consideration.
01:09 dcook :D
01:09 dcook I've been thinking a bit how I could use some new music
01:10 eythian[…]st-albums-of-2014 <-- well, here's some more. I haven't been through these yet.

04:00 abhijit hi we are getting following error

04:00 eythian first question
04:00 wahanui "What are you trying to do?" or "What is the goal?"
04:01 abhijit we are running following command
04:01 abhijit hi
04:02 abhijit we are running -  /usr/share/koha/bin/cronjobs/ -sqlite3
04:02 eythian second question
04:02 wahanui second question is "What is the exact error message?"
04:02 eythian oh

04:02 eythian third question
04:02 wahanui third question is "What version of Koha are you using?"[…]ion-koha-running/
04:02 eythian hmm
04:02 eythian skip that too
04:02 eythian fourth question
04:02 wahanui i guess fourth question is "Are we there yet?"
04:02 abhijit 3.18.03
04:03 eythian how have you installed Koha?
04:03 abhijit yes
04:03 eythian as in, using packages, or tarball, or git, or something
04:03 abhijit we are having mobile libraries - always offline
04:03 abhijit kohacommon
04:03 eythian ah great
04:03 eythian so, try this:
04:04 abhijit ok
04:04 eythian sudo koha-shell -c ' /usr/share/koha/bin/cronjobs/ -sqlite3' instancename
04:04 eythian where instancename is the name of the library that you gave to koha-create when you made it.
04:04 abhijit let me try
04:05 eythian wahanui: third question is "What version of Koha are you using? How have you installed it (packages, tarball, etc)?"[…]ion-koha-running/
04:05 wahanui ...but third question is "What version of Koha are you using?"[…]ion-koha-running/...
04:05 eythian no wahanui, third question is "What version of Koha are you using? How have you installed it (packages, tarball, etc)?"[…]ion-koha-running/
04:05 wahanui okay, eythian.
04:06 abhijit this is really great place where i can chat with real peoples and get solution to our problems
04:06 eythian that's the idea :)
04:06 abhijit how can we install  DBD::SQLite3
04:07 abhijit cpan
04:07 eythian sudo apt-get install libdbd-sqlite3-perl will probably work
04:08 abhijit now getting following error
04:08 abhijit DBI connect('dbname=borrowers.db','',...) failed: unable to open database file at /usr/share/koha/bin/cronjobs/ line 133 Can't call method "do" on unblessed reference at /usr/share/koha/bin/cronjobs/ line 224.
04:09 eythian hmm
04:09 eythian oh
04:09 eythian I bet it's failing to create that file because it doesn't have write permissions whereever you are
04:10 eythian try adding --file /var/lib/koha/instancename/borrowers.db
04:10 eythian (again, replace instancename with whatever it should be)
04:11 eythian we need someone to add proper support for the offline stuff to the packages so this just magically happens.
04:14 abhijit eythian i really don't know how to add file ?
04:15 eythian sudo koha-shell -c ' /usr/share/koha/bin/cronjobs/ --sqlite3 --file /var/lib/koha/instancename/borrowers.db' instancename

04:24 abhijit ?
04:24 eythian in the /usr/share/koha/bin/cronjobs/ file itself
04:24 eythian just because it's quicker for me than running --help

08:36 justin_ can i ask something abt koha library
08:38 Viktor Hi justin_ Feel free to ask. There's no meeting now as far as I'm aware.
08:38 Viktor Hopefully someone is around who can answer :)
08:40 justin_ i see
08:40 justin_ the thing is, i already install koha library on PC and can use offline
08:41 justin_ offline mean without internet just local connection
08:41 justin_ now i want to make that library online
08:42 justin_ come someone give any idea abt it?
08:43 Viktor One of the first things you would need (I think) is a static IP-adress so there is a way to find your Koha-install from another computer.
08:43 Viktor If you have installed Koha on a dedicated machine things should be relatively easy to get up and running then.
08:44 Viktor I think there is more things with "port forwarding" and such things if you run Koha in Virtualbox or other virtualization software.
08:44 justin_ yes. i already assign ip to connect local connection
08:44 Viktor Good :)
08:44 justin_ but for online i cannot get puclic ip in my country
08:45 justin_ is there any way to put my library online without public?
08:45 justin_ i mean like Website
08:46 Viktor Hm. Without a static IP-adress I think it will be a bit of a hassle. There are services that lets you have a server even without a static IP but then you have to reconnect it to your domain name every time you get a new adress from your Internet provider.
08:47 Viktor Don't quite what those services are called, but I know they exist.
08:48 justin_ yes that's why i got issue with online library
08:48 reiveune joined #koha
08:48 Viktor Every time your IP changes you go to the service and hook up your domain with the new IP.
08:48 justin_ can i know which country u from?
08:48 Viktor But it's no good way to build anything else than a test.
08:48 Viktor I'm from sweden.
08:49 justin_ i see , i from Myanmar
08:50 justin_ my offline library is already running in Majoy Seminary
08:50 justin_ they already make cataloging
08:50 justin_ book aroung 10000++
08:51 justin_ now they want to make online library
08:51 Viktor Is there any chance you could use any online service provider like
08:52 Viktor To set up a online server and import the database into that?
08:52 justin_ but in my country it is hard to get good internet and amd public ip
08:53 Viktor I see. So top priority is keeping it working on the local network? Then a local machine sounds like a better idea.
08:53 Viktor No good with a cloud based server if there is poor internet connection.
08:54 Viktor I did a quick search for "domain name without static IP" and that turned up some interesting services.
08:55 Viktor Things like "" and others. I have no idea if they are any good. But there seems to be a few services that does what you need.
08:55 justin_ i see
08:56 justin_ but 10$ for one month is too expensive for seminary
08:56 tomk Hey ppl
08:58 Viktor justin_ I guess you could register a cheap domain somewhere, give it you locals machines IP and never turn it off.... But maybe you should look from a second opinion from others. They might have some good tricks :)
09:00 reiveune joined #koha
09:02 justin_ i already tried that idea but my isp not allowed to use public ip in their physical lime
09:03 tomk Hallå, Viktor. Will you attend at the 'round table talk' in Stockholm march 15th?
09:06 * magnuse would love to be a fly on the wall there :-)
09:06 tomk oh, sorry it's the 17th!
09:06 tomk magnuse, :)
09:09 Viktor Hi tomk - yes I plan to do that if at all possible :)
09:10 * magnuse thinks that meeting would be kind of pointless without Viktor :-)
09:10 Viktor Hm. I'm sorry, but since I'm no networking guru I'm out of good ideas :( But there are others who are good with these things. I hope someone can help you.
09:11 Viktor Magnuse :)
09:11 magnuse justin_: i would recommend sending an email to the main koha list - you will reach more people there
09:11 justin_ i see Viktor . thanks alot for your kindness and idea
09:12 * Viktor agrees with Magnuse. With the list you access a lot more people over time than the ones here right now.
09:12 tomk Viktor, Cool. Thinking about attending. Me and a colleague (Almedalsbiblioteket på Gotland). We're at a very early stage of our Koha discovery / salvation - but realize that it is very important that we show our involvement and interest in the development
09:12 Viktor justin_ Best of luck!
09:12 justin_ also thanks to magnuse , i will send email ;)
09:13 Viktor tonk That's great
09:14 Viktor tonk If I can help you out in any way you are most welcome to ask
09:14 magnuse tomk: the more the merrier
09:14 tomk Viktor, Wonderful.
09:14 Viktor tomk I don't know if you are aware, but we run a project that hopes to adapt Koha more to the needs of swedish libraries.
09:15 tomk I am aware! Just read about it. :D
09:15 tomk Exciting!
09:16 Viktor tomk We hope to get extra funding so it's valuable to hear from others what they se as show stoppers. In the best of worlds we could fund the needed development :)
09:17 Viktor tomk There will be more info after march 4 when we know if we get extra funds or not.
09:17 * magnuse crosses his fingers
09:18 * tomk crosses toes and fingers!
09:20 * Viktor finally shuts of the autocorrect that want to spell "tomk" like "tonk" and "patch" like "match" etc
09:21 Viktor tonk What system are you currently on? Magnuse did a Book-IT migration script for us, and I think there will soon be a too.
09:21 tomk Can't believe I've missed out of this (Koha) - but then, my area has been more about the libraries web/intranet solutions. Until now!
09:21 tomk We're going through ridiculously harsh times with Ax**ll.
09:22 Viktor Sorry to hear :(
09:22 tomk so, yes - BookIT
09:23 tomk Well, as I see it - it's all good. Makes alternatives so much more appealling
09:23 tomk *appealing
09:23 tomk ;)
09:24 Viktor Hm. The one we did takes a "standarduttag" from Book-IT as input. The vendor they bought Book-IT from set a quite steep price for getting that info though..
09:25 tomk Yes, not unexpected.
09:25 Viktor The script propably needs some tweaking by now with new versions, but it should be far less than the 100 hours we spent on making it in the first place.
09:25 tomk Amazing
09:27 Viktor The script is at and magnuse or someone else of your choice should be able to assist you with using it if needed.
09:29 Viktor I'm not good with migrations but do some smaller patches and help our project library with a lot of daily tasks.

09:34 tomk *way
09:34 Viktor tomk Sounds great!
09:37 Viktor tomk Since there is quite a bit of interest around Koha we are looking for public spaces to discuss in and learn together. The Facebook group "Koha i Norden" might be useful.
09:37 Viktor I usually blogg about the project at too.
09:38 magnuse tomk: if you are on facebook (it started out as a norwegian group and i don't think we can change the url)

09:54 Viktor I'm planning to make the most of the day and live nearby :)
10:06 magnuse 9 o'clock i think
10:07 magnuse Viktor: adnois looks good if have not booked anything yet
10:07 magnuse ~10 minutes to walk to the biblibre office
10:07 Viktor magnuse I booked Adonis since it was close and everyone else seemed to stay there :)
10:07 magnuse maybe a bit less down to vieux port
10:07 magnuse yay!
10:08 Viktor Got my passport ready and all tickets done. Still need to print some kind of map but 2km from the train station to the hotel seems doable by foot.
10:09 magnuse i went by foot the first time - it was a bit too far with a heavy suitcase
10:09 magnuse it's fine if you don't have too much to carry
10:09 Viktor Lucky the Biblibre folk is so amazing and friendly. Last time I was in France was Paris 20 years ago and english was a bit frowned upon :)
10:10 magnuse hehe
10:10 magnuse the biblibre/koha people are all friendly
10:11 magnuse i have sat myself down at an outdoor café and gotten actively ignored by the staff, though ;-)
10:11 magnuse Viktor: do you arrive monday morning?
10:11 Viktor Yes working with Koha is really great for becoming more a part of the world.
10:12 Viktor magnuse: Sunday actually.
10:12 magnuse cool
10:12 magnuse early? late? will you have any time to explore?
10:13 Viktor I think I'm landing at 17.00. Should be in town by 18 I guess. Top priotrity is food and hotel. But if it seems friendly enough in the area there migh be some exploration :)
10:14 Viktor I'm currently using street view to get a sense of where I have to walk :)
10:16 magnuse good plan :-)
10:27 magnuse i think some people might be meetin up for dinner at around that time
10:49 magnuse yeah, lunchtime
10:52 cait tomk++
10:54 tomk Yes, cait?
10:54 wahanui cait is lookign forward to the API discussion
10:56 cait for not having a fb account :)
10:56 cait was reading scrollback
10:56 tomk Oh. hah
10:57 tomk Thanks :D
10:57 cait lunch time
10:57 tomk Aye.
11:15 kivilahtio have we really agreed to push all Koha to DBIx?
11:35 cait kivilahtio: hm?
11:36 cait i think the long term goal is to support multiple database systems
11:36 kivilahtio just asking. Koha will end up as another Drupal
11:36 kivilahtio :)
11:36 kivilahtio Or maybe not, if DBIx doesnt make a ton of arbitrary DB-queries
11:37 magnuse well, we have opened the floodgates to it, and a lot of devs seen to like it
11:37 magnuse not sure we have set "rewrite everything using DBIC" as a goal, though

12:39 andreashm magnuse: I failed to install kohadevbox yesterday. =(
12:39 magnuse ouch
12:39 magnuse what happened?
12:40 andreashm yup. my colleague managed on his windows machine, but I failed on a mac.
12:40 andreashm can't connect to localhost. don't know if there was something earlier in the install that didn't work right though.
12:40 magnuse ah
12:41 * magnuse does not use a mac
12:41 andreashm vagrant doesn't like me. everything I've tried to install with it so far (three different things, on two separate computers) have failed.
12:41 magnuse ouch!
12:41 magnuse my best advice is to google for something like "can't connect to localhost vagrant mac" then...
12:42 andreashm yeah, I'll try to see if it's something I can sort out.
12:42 cait andreashm: :( hope it can be fixed
12:43 andreashm guess I should try installing on the PC and see if that works.
12:43 andreashm but there is a distinct possibility that I've messed up somewhere earlier.
12:44 andreashm I'm wondering if the mac has the proper perl support needed for instance.
12:45 magnuse the mac should not need perl at all
12:45 meliss joined #koha
12:46 magnuse all you need is vagrant, and then all the interesting things are inside the virtualbox set up by vagrant
12:46 andreashm alright, thanks magnuse. guess I'll try to look into the localhost issue.
12:46 paul_p joined #koha
12:47 andreashm first I thought it was a firewall issue, but then I reinstalled at home last night, but with the same result unfortunately.

12:51 magnuse Viktor_away: you're a mac person, aren't you? have you tried kohadevbox on it?
12:53 Viktor_away magnuse: I haven't yet, but I would want to try it. Whats acting up? (No backlog in the IRC client from when I was away)
12:53 magnuse Viktor_away: andreashm ran into a "can't connect to localhost" problem
12:54 Viktor_away Hm that was weird. Inside Virtualbox?
12:54 Viktor_away Not trying to access the devbox from the native os?
12:54 andreashm when running the installation script
12:55 andreashm I can access the devbox. but not the localhost.
12:56 andreashm do I need to forward ports?
12:56 andreashm (looking at some "getting started with vagrant" site, which does so... unclear why)
12:57 magnuse port forwarding should be set up
12:58 magnuse and it is even set up to choose different ports if the default ones are taken
12:58 magnuse but it can be hard to catch the message if ports are changed
12:58 magnuse when you do the first "vagrant up" it will be at the top of a looooot of output
12:59 magnuse the second time you do "vagrant up" there should be less output, so you should be able to catch it
12:59 Viktor_away Interesting and weird. I'm actually on family duty now so I don't have a chance to dig deeper just now. But I'll gladly read the IRC-logs tonight and see if you had any luck :)
13:04 andreashm viktor: thanks! =)
13:07 andreashm magnuse: I'll try vagrant up again in a bit... doing some stuff on another virtualbox at the moment (getting windows sorted so I can access our old ils)

13:41 jcamins andreashm: sounds like there's nothing wrong with Vagrant, just a problem with the Koha configuration on the VM.
13:43 andreashm jcamins: strange.
13:43 jcamins Missing dependencies, I'd say.
13:43 jcamins But you would probably be better off asking someone who has worked with DBIx how to address the problem.
13:45 andreashm isn't it something missing in Perl? that's how I read it.
13:45 jcamins Yeah, missing Perl dependencies.
13:45 jcamins DBIx::Connector.

14:15 andreashm no apt-get. seems to be an unix command.
14:15 andreashm I'll look into it.
14:19 magnuse something is very wrong if you can't run apt-get inside the virtual machine :-)
14:19 andreashm humm... that's true...
14:21 andreashm ah, I probably gave the wrong password
14:24 magnuse "vagrant ssh" should not need a password
14:25 andreashm no, but sudo does
14:26 magnuse ah, inside the vm, sudo should not ask for a password either
14:26 magnuse unless something changed in the base vm that kohadevbox uses...
14:26 andreashm it did the first time. now it just couldn't locate the package.
14:28 magnuse do "sudo apt-get update" and then try again
14:30 andreashm is the package called DBIx::Connector? Or something else?
14:31 magnuse the perl module is called DBIx::Connector. the debian package derived from that should be called libdbix-connector-perl
14:31 magnuse oh, i had a typo

14:45 kivilahtio What do you think about the idea that when you are defining the "Notices and Slips", you could have an extra column to tell how much you would fine the borrower for receiving such a fine?
14:46 kivilahtio We could easily define notification fines for borrowers based on the letter_code, branchcode, message_trasnport_type
14:46 kivilahtio ...
14:46 kivilahtio it would also enable you to set different notification fines for different overdue notification letters
14:47 kivilahtio it would also enable defining a notification fine for hold-ready-for-pickup

21:58 seneca Getting a "ERR_CONNECTION_RESET" when trying to save a "new" report
21:58 seneca I've done some searching, probably not enough, but I didn't see any bugs regarding this
21:59 seneca It doesn't put anything in the intranet-access or error logs, either
22:00 seneca ...nor in the apache logs
22:00 seneca Has anyone else seen this in their install?
22:01 seneca It's running on Debian, updated just today to
22:04 seneca Also happens whether I create the new report guided or just paste in the SQL
22:04 cait seneca: hm let me try on mine
22:04 seneca Thanks :)
22:05 cait a new sql report?
22:05 seneca yes
22:05 cait hm works on master for me
22:06 seneca hmmm
22:06 cait not sure what's going on there
22:06 seneca It was about 3 months ago that I last updated, so I thought maybe that was the problem, that there was a bug fixed
22:06 seneca but updating didn't fix anything
22:07 cait ah it was there before you updated to 3.18.4 too?
22:07 seneca yeah
22:07 seneca Didn't think to look at what version I was at this morning
22:07 seneca my first trouble shooting technique is usually to apply updates ;)
22:08 seneca It's an odd error, too - like apache is killing the connection...
22:08 seneca it happens on Chrome and Firefox (all I've tested)
22:08 seneca both current versions
22:08 seneca it's annoyingly not in any logs...
22:08 seneca (that I can find)
22:10 cait hm sounds like something database... but not sur ehow to debug
22:10 cait not many people around here this time of the day - at least not from europe

22:10 seneca thanks for checking for me :)
22:11 eythian I'd be surprised if there wasn't something in a log somewhere
22:11 seneca me too, but I can't find it
22:11 eythian check the ones under /var/log/apache2 as well as the ones under /var/log/koha
22:11 seneca yep, have
22:11 eythian also perhaps check syslog
22:11 eythian it sounds like an apache process crashing, which really shouldn't happen
22:12 eythian done an apache2 restart?
22:12 seneca nothing in syslog either
22:12 eythian dmesg?
22:12 wahanui dmesg is a kernel ring buffer that's not dependent on rsyslog.
