03:43 mtj @later tell barton recently switching to the indexing daemon has actually dropped the server load, for us :)
03:43 huginn mtj: The operation succeeded.
03:45 wizzyrea I suspect it really would for high change volume libraries
03:50 mtj hey wizzyrea :)
03:51 mtj ..i'm not quite sure why the load has dropped, tbh - still curious about that
03:54 wizzyrea I've been wondering if the setting that puts the last issue date in the record, requiring a reindex, causes trouble on these high transaction libraries
03:54 wizzyrea that would put a quintillion index updates into the queue
03:55 wizzyrea but the daemon would help that
03:55 wizzyrea because it wouldn't have so many to do at a time
03:55 wizzyrea or would just do them as they came in

04:00 schnydszch Hello Koha community, I'm trying to test a patch for bug 9701, using biblibre sandbox, the test7 one, it seems I'm not getting email after filling all the required fields

04:01 dcook Sorry, schnydszch. I haven't looked at that one before.

04:01 * dcook is actually looking for folk who use kohadevbox..
04:01 Francesca I have a cold
04:02 dcook :(
04:02 Francesca I think I've used kohadevbox before
04:02 Francesca on my mac
04:02 schnydszch dcook, I got email on the first try but second and third, none
04:02 Francesca to do stuff
04:02 dcook Francesca: Interesting. Due to the Ansible dependency, it seems that you can only use it on Mac or Linux?
04:02 schnydszch first was because someone's using the devbox
04:03 Francesca dcook: ansible? also I used to have koahdevbox on windows before I got my mac
04:04 schnydszch When I open it points me to the web installer but I don't have the credentials, it should be sent in the email right?
04:04 dcook Francesca: Interesting... was that a long time ago? I'm thinking maybe tcohen added Ansible later
04:05 dcook schnydszch: I don't have knowledge about your issue, unfortunately.
04:05 dcook Like me, it probably makes sense to ask the listserv
04:05 Francesca yeah it would have been about 3 years now since I had a windows computer
04:06 dcook Have you been working on Koha for 3 years? Wow, time flies by...

04:16 mtj wizzyrea: i kinda thought it would be generally more 'efficient' to do a big bunch of zebra updates every 5 mins - than a few updates, every 10 secs

04:17 wizzyrea (yet.)
04:17 dcook wizzyrea: I thought the ansible one was the only option now?
04:17 wizzyrea I have a fork of the bash one.
04:18 wizzyrea the ansible one is probably generally better
04:18 dcook Is that like this: ?
04:18 mtj ..i thought there would be some overhead in starting many small indexing jobs, at least
04:18 * dcook loves Ansible
04:18 wizzyrea I don't think it works that way
04:18 wizzyrea but I don't really mnow

04:18 dcook mtj: Why does it matter?
04:21 dcook mtj: Btw, you might find this relevant:[…]ow-registers.html
04:23 dcook wizzyrea: I don't know why we wouldn't just use Ansible locally on the VM created by Vagrant
04:23 dcook It seems like we're using Ansible on the host instead?
04:23 wizzyrea dunno, haven't tested it

08:56 drojf ha awesome
08:57 drojf not sure how marcel's work relates to yours. do you have so many servers that you put them in other people's buildings?
09:04 drojf what do we use to hash passwords atm? bcrypt?
09:24 Joubu drojf: yes, bcrypt
09:28 drojf i have seen that people use SIP2 in Koha to talk to EZproxy. any reason not to do that? i was looking into using ldap, but sip2 may be an easier way
09:29 eythian sip2 means you can use koha as a user database.
09:29 drojf yes, that is the thing that would make it easier, because that ldap server does not exist yet :)
09:30 drojf the proposed option was an odbc connection to the koha db, that did not sound very attractive
09:31 eythian nooo
09:31 eythian that sounds like an awful idea
09:32 drojf yes. i saw the thing (HAN server) speaks ldap. but just now i saw it also speaks sip2. so if there is no reason not to use that, it would be my favourite

13:58 polar_ Hi all, new to Koha. Just started digging into ebooks. Installed a windows based platform with Calibre-ebooks. Works great for me, but does not support lending, only web based downloading. Just wondering if Koha could be more practical. Just want an interface that makes it easy for users to download/loan non-DMR ebooks, but with a nice GUI. No big project, just for privat use. Is Koha right, or maybe overkill? Please your advice.
14:04 alex_a_ joined #koha
14:04 kidclamp hi polar_, it sounds interesting, I don't think koha currently has a method for checking out e-materials (in the sense of only making them available to user after checkout) but for cataloging and providing access it could be used
14:05 alex_a_ joined #koha
14:06 drojf polar_: download/loan a non drm book means you want  a link to a file?
14:07 drojf or actually circulate it (for whatever reason and in whatever way)?

14:12 polar_ @kidclamp: Yes, that was what I was thinking also. Thx for the reply.
14:12 huginn polar_: I'll give you the answer as soon as RDA is ready
14:14 kidclamp being able to actually circulate an e-item always sounds cool to me, but then I get thinking it smacks of building in DRM
14:15 polar_ @drojf: Well that is what basically is done now with use of Calibre_eBooks. The web UI xxx:9090 gives acces to book information like "Big" cover image and book description + downloadlink of the CBR file. But I have no user control. Other then that it does the job. So I guess that Koha will give more "user" management. Could be interesting to see how Koha actually removes or disables the eBook after f.ex. 10 days of lending.
14:15 huginn polar_: I'll give you the answer just as soon as RDA is ready

14:18 polar_ I assume as soon as one uses DRM protected eBooks, Koha will need a plugin ro something to f.ex. Adobe DRM server?
14:18 polar_ But FYI, DRM is not important for my project.
14:18 drojf polar_: koha does not really do what you are looking for then. and i don't see the point in doing that. limiting access to something that has no reason to be limited is strange
14:19 rocio buen dia
14:19 polar_ drojf: Reason I strart without DRM is to keep it simple. Learn the basics, get a basic system running, later implement DRM.
14:20 Joubu tcohen: yep?
14:20 wahanui yep.
14:21 drojf polar_: drm stuff usually happens outside of koha. on the side of providers of such kind of things. like the ebsco plugin
14:21 polar_ huginn: What is RDA?
14:21 wahanui RDA is my cataloguing standards are bad, and you should feel bad
14:21 huginn polar_: I suck
14:25 drojf i don't think drm will have a bright future as part of koha
14:25 drojf i hope it will have none at all
14:25 polar_ agree with that drojf
14:26 drojf you just said you want to implement it
14:30 LibraryClaire joined #koha
14:30 tcohen Joubu: I have master installed, DB created, and it sends me to the install process
14:30 polar_ So the actual question remains. If the main goal is to catalogue eBooks and offer a web interface for browsing the metadata, and downloading a copy of the document, and Calibre does the job, is their any specific reason why I should consider Koha? It looks like a mighty fine piece of software.
14:30 tcohen like it had caching issues!
14:31 Joubu tcohen: something in the logs?
14:32 polar_ drojf: Yes I want to implement it, because in the world we live in, DRM is an evil we have to live with :)
14:33 tcohen
14:33 tcohen Joubu  ^^^^
14:33 kidclamp polar_: I think you have to evaluate that yourself - koha is intended as an ILS, offering full functions for libraries. It is great software and does a lot and has a wonderful community if you need it.
14:33 LibraryClaire joined #koha
14:34 polar_ drojf: But I also write my own eBooks. Right now I put them on an eCommerce platform, free for download for my subscriber clients. But I gues building a library could be an alternative way to go.

14:35 Joubu tcohen: How could I recreate?
14:36 tcohen Joubu: I'm not sure
