00:08 eythian this would be good for koha hosting perhaps (I know nothing about their reliability or anything though.)
00:10 eythian especially the one-off cost scheme
00:14 dcook Learning more about Java than I ever thought I'd want to know O_O
00:21 eythian ha ha </nelson>
00:21 dcook It's actually kind of a cool feeling when the "How the hell does that work" resolves to "Ahhhhhh"
00:21 eythian http://blog.ircmaxell.com/2015[…]ypt-with.html?m=1
00:21 dcook :P
00:21 dcook Now why the hell does one page have different request attributes when they're run from the same servlet..
00:30 eythian (note with the plans on the server thing above, due to the 50% off, it's actually half what's listed, they don't make that very clear.)
00:39 rangi dang
00:39 rangi thats cheap as chips
00:46 dcook Ahhhh, I think I finally found it..
00:46 dcook Bloody Java..
00:46 dcook and my own ignorance :p
00:46 dcook And bad documentation..
00:47 rangi security team?
00:47 wahanui https://i.imgur.com/8FdEFmq.gifv
00:50 eythian rangi: yeah, I grabbed the biggest developer option for US$70, I figure I can use it or ignore it as I please as I'm not paying monthly.
00:50 rangi exactly
00:51 eythian actually, you know what else that'd be good for? Hosting server-side stuff for open source projects, as there's no need for someone to pay ongoing costs.
00:52 rangi yeah i was thinking
00:52 rangi it could be a great place for contribs.koha-community.org
00:52 rangi when i finally find a piece of software to handle that
00:52 eythian of course, now I need to figure out a hostname
00:52 rangi (let people upload and rate plugins etc)
00:52 eythian ah yeah
00:54 dcook Huh... that's pretty sweet
00:55 dcook I keep meaning to get a VPS...
00:55 eythian "cardan" is the new server hostname.
01:04 eythian master packages uploading

01:44 dcook Figured out DSpace's architecture, finally figured out out servlets work especially in that context, and managed to do the thing that the client wanted :D
01:45 dcook Without having to rewrite or recompile anything..
01:46 eythian always a bonus
01:47 dcook I'm actually rather pleased overall
01:47 dcook I think I reached a Java milestone

01:51 eythian I seem to have broken paging again
01:54 jenkins_koha Starting build #65 for job Koha_3.18.x_U14 (previous build: SUCCESS)
02:01 dcook I think broken paging is the first bug I encountered when I first started here...
02:01 dcook Always fun :)
02:08 eythian alright, I think I have the authority search form working, except for sort and that broken paging.
02:08 eythian I should be able to get there before beer o'clock I think.
02:08 rangi 52 minutes
02:08 rangi not that im counting
02:08 eythian heh
02:14 dcook heh

10:00 drojf nice
10:03 magnuse yeah, really good news for koha in sweden
10:10 kivilahtio I agree
10:10 kivilahtio they can get a lot done
10:10 drojf i wish my spoken swedish was better ;)
10:10 kivilahtio haha
10:10 kivilahtio Is command of sewdish language mandatory?
10:11 drojf i think so
10:11 drojf i can read swedish. just never stayed there long enough to get used to using it actively
10:12 drojf and forgot a lot over time ;)
10:13 magnuse it says you need to know swedish and english - but if i were them i would take a great koha hacker who does not know swedish rather than an ok koha hacker who knows swedish
10:14 magnuse and there are not a lot of koha hackers in sweden, that i know of
10:16 drojf i think one of the ideas behind it was to get local people involved in koha development. taking somebody already active here would not help with that
10:16 drojf at least that is how i understood viktor
10:25 magnuse ah, cool

10:52 Viktor drojf magnuse kivilahtio Swedish is (somewhat) mandatory since this is both for development but also an attempt at showing swedish libraries that Koha isn't anything weird and dangerous that they need to speak other languages to use.
10:53 kivilahtio Viktor: I thought you are there for that reason?
10:53 Viktor We are also planning to make use of a lot of existing vendors for development :)
10:53 wahanui okay, Viktor.
10:53 kivilahtio Its not that I am applying :)
10:53 Viktor kivilahtio If you were I'd say english is fine though :)
10:54 Viktor I am there for that reason, but they would need two-three swedish big vendors to feel really at ease.
10:54 drojf i thought almost everybody in sweden speaks english perfectly ;)
10:54 kivilahtio Viktor: 2-3 big swedish Koha vendors?
10:54 Viktor So this is sort of an attempt at showing "Koha is not just Viktor"
10:55 kivilahtio Viktor: you should have 2-3 big Koha libraries in Sweden having you own staff to manage your IT
10:55 kivilahtio you already have two
10:55 kivilahtio Stockholm and Halland
10:55 kivilahtio Then support each other
10:56 kivilahtio Viktor: This is an excellent opportunity to try and sneak open source into the government sector
10:56 drojf i should really brush up on my swedish :D
10:56 Viktor Yes :) Libraries like the comfort of big vendors and Koha is picking up speed fast but many still feel that they want their big swedish vendor-
10:56 kivilahtio Viktor: if you buy open source, you detach it from our operations
10:56 kivilahtio Viktor: if you hire open source people to your staff. Things might actually start chanign
10:57 Viktor kivilahtio I agree. And Stockholm is already changing the feeling in the community I think. As is Oslo och Vaara.
10:57 drojf i asked paul_p at kohacon in edinburgh how they had so much french libraries using koha and we in germany don't. he said the same thing. without support companies it's not going to happen.
10:57 kivilahtio Viktor: yes, w should cooperate and unify our sever infrastructure. Then we can cooperate acrsoo national borders.
10:58 kivilahtio we help other libraries to get started with Koha
10:58 kivilahtio we are not a company but we provide help as we can
10:58 Viktor drojf It the chicken and the egg...
10:58 drojf and i had a few libraries telling me directly that they or people in charge did not want to switch without a vendor. so i am a vendor now ^^
10:58 kivilahtio from the inside. Insidious :)
10:59 Viktor kivilathtio: Cooperation would be a great way forward.
10:59 Viktor With a few of us cooperating we could be our own vendor.
10:59 kivilahtio we are currently looking to establish a national coopeartion mechanism for Koha libraries in Finland
11:00 kivilahtio so we can actually work for each other and towards mutual goals
11:00 kivilahtio it is very buraucratic and difficult to find the cooperation mehcanisms, but I think we can come up with a good solution
11:00 Viktor Sometimes I think that I or someone else needs to start acting as a commercial vendor cooperating with someone for running the servers. But I'd rather see if the libraries can cooperate enough to get things going.
11:00 kivilahtio cooperating across national boundaries might be a bit more difficult
11:00 magnuse drojf++
11:00 kivilahtio Viktor: ++
11:01 magnuse kia ora khall
11:01 kivilahtio In Finland we already have a lot of IT staff in libraries. Atleast in the educational sector. They can easily take Koha as their new system
11:01 Viktor National borders is a hassle for shure. But please keep me posted anyway :)
11:01 khall mornin magnuse!
11:01 Viktor Hi khall
11:01 khall mornin!
11:02 kivilahtio public sector not su much. I am really surprised that we are not already using Koha in universities since we can have like 4 IT guys in one university organization
11:02 drojf kivilahtio: my impression was that some universities are very close with their proprietary vendors
11:02 Jul_ joined #koha
11:03 kivilahtio drojf: I guess if it works out for them
11:03 Viktor Our national library is very interested in open source and have been running a national catalogue with CC0 license for many years.
11:03 Viktor And the academic libraries here seem to be more prepared to use Koha or other FOSS products.
11:04 drojf kivilahtio: well, it's a few hundred thousand euro of public money per year too
11:05 slef joined #koha
11:07 drojf but i have a lot of interest from university IT departments for my webinars on koha, so that seems to differ from town to town
11:07 drojf at least they consider it an option

13:55 mtompset Is there a hint of code somewhere, tcohen? :)
13:57 tcohen mtompset: a very outdated version https://github.com/tomascohen/[…]acdb67273437f2b2b
13:57 tcohen i didn't have the time to polish it during hackfest
13:57 tcohen and i need to fix some things before submitting
13:58 mtompset C4::ClassSource?!
13:58 tcohen i refactored it so it applies to just XML data instead of Koha::Search::Result objects
13:58 tcohen read the code
13:58 tcohen you will understand it
13:59 mtompset I've never seen it before.
13:59 tcohen i know
14:01 mtompset Just a quick scan, this writes an xslt stylesheet to apply on the fly?
14:02 mtompset Interesting...
14:02 wahanui interesting is sometimes good and sometimes bad
14:06 tcohen it generates an XSLT (that my local code caches already) for each branch/fw-code
14:06 tcohen and interface
14:06 wahanui interface is probably optional.
14:07 tcohen and it applies it to XML::LibXML records
14:09 tcohen at that point, I created a Koha::Search::Result class so each record already carries some data about itself (biblionumber and metadata schema: we could want to have proper handling of JSON, etc)
14:10 tcohen but i convinced myself that it is better for the filter to apply to xml objects, and just pass that data as parameters
14:10 tcohen the only problem is that Koha::RecordProcessor deals with serialization format but not the metadata schema itself
14:11 mtompset But I notice how you expressly used C4::Biblio::GetFrameworkCode. That is the sort of thing you don't expect when use have a use Biblio; right up front, but results from a circular include.
14:11 mtompset That's the sort of debugging pain I was hoping to avoid.
14:11 tcohen so, i need to think about the best way to organize it
14:12 tcohen i don't see any circular dependency

15:39 slef Hrm. Is there any way we can avoid guided_reports.pl building the whole OpenOffice file before starting to send it?
15:39 slef Big reports timeout.  If not, maybe it should chicken out over a certain size?
15:54 mtompset Perhaps something to consider as part of the RESTful API. :)
15:54 mtompset ^ slef :)
15:55 mtompset Then it could get ajax'y and you first build then download. :)

17:22 slef mtompset: won't apache always kill the build before it completes?
17:23 slef mtompset: although if we break the build down into small easy-AJAXable steps (a thousand records perhaps) then we could do that we refreshes of a wait page already

17:49 mtompset Sorry, was away from the keyboard.
17:50 mtompset slef: I was thinking, process runs in background, ajax script periodically calls a "is it done it?" type script, and when it is done, enables a download button.
17:56 akafred No async report generation in koha?
17:56 slef mtompset: I think we'd still get slapped by timeouts that way. May be better to have fred.js repeatedly call "add a bit more or send me the finished file" to barney.pl, updating a progress meter each time it does so.
17:58 mtompset the process running in the background starts by apache, but doesn't need to actually reply anything more than "I've started" before closing the connection. No timeout.
17:58 slef mtompset: Are you sure? I thought this was a problem for some processes in the past.
17:58 mtompset the click that triggers the start, would then check "how much is done?" in a javascript. No timeout there, because "X%" as a reply doesn't timeout.
17:58 slef akafred: I forget ;)
17:59 mtompset akafred: I do not think there currently is async report generation. It would be useful to have.
17:59 slef mtompset: even if Apache doesn't reap its grandchildre, ulimit would still bite us.
17:59 mtompset that check keeps running until >=100% is reached.
18:00 mtompset upon which it enabled the download button.
18:01 mtompset but ulimit would bite for a crazy huge report anyways, even if you ran it directly in a mysql command interface.
18:01 mtompset or shell prompt...
18:01 mtompset you get the idea.
18:01 slef yeah but if you can say "add a bit more or send me the finished file" then you avoid it
18:01 akafred In ruby there are multiple gems that provide this kind of functionality. You typically put the report request in a queue that is taken care of by  a set of worker processes.
18:02 slef Anyway: many ways to skin this feline.
18:03 mtompset Well, I don't know how it generates the OpenOffice file, so you may still get hit, and not be able to split the turn the data into the file part.
18:05 slef OpenOffice::OODoc claimed an ability to update existing files too. Might get slow though.
18:05 slef and we'd have a temporary file passing between barney.pl invocations
18:05 slef so it's not without drawbacks
18:06 slef but the temporary file would have to pass from the background to the CGI somehow in the mtompset model anyway
18:06 mtompset the javascript calling to check is it done.
18:06 mtompset when complete, it would trigger the call to download it.
18:06 mtompset client side trigger.
18:08 mtompset is it done? no, 10%. is it done? no, 20%? is it done? yes, the file is {some ugly sha hash key}. grab {some ugly sha hash key}. here it is {passes file}.
18:09 mtompset the last step could time out if the file is too large.
18:12 mtompset but I suppose you could then implement a "how many fragments for {some ugly sha hash key}? X fragments. give me fragment 1 for {some ugly sha hash key}. Here it is {passes fragment 1}. ... give me fragment X. Here it is. {client side assembly of fragments}"
18:14 mtompset This is why I was talking about this might be something to consider adding to the RESTful API.
18:18 mtompset http://wiki.koha-community.org[…]/New_REST_API_RFC
18:21 mtompset Because currently, there is no stuff for reporting there.
18:31 mtompset Does that make sense, slef?

19:00 mbeaulieu Hi. I have a questions regarding bugzilla/git bz. My bug has 3 patches. The first one does not apply but the others do. I want to resubmit only the first patch and keep the 3 patches in the same order. Any tip?
19:16 drojf mbeaulieu: i don't know anything more fancy than attaching the others after that. would like to know that too if there is a better way
