01:27 dcook Neato!
01:27 dcook My record type facet works pretty nicely using the Leader...
01:28 jcamins Yay!
01:28 dcook Provided that people code the Leader correctly..
01:28 dcook Which this library has ^_^
01:28 dcook Mmm fixed field data
01:29 dcook Need to have better labels than the ones used in MARC though
01:29 dcook One does not necessarily equate "Two-dimensional nonprojectable graphic" and "Picture" at the drop of a hat
01:30 jcamins dcook: really? :P
01:30 dcook :p

02:10 dcook Interesting conversation on twitter at the moment regarding a way to have an "Open Access" facet
02:10 dcook While there are lots of ways to do it, it would be nice if a metadata scheme included a hook for that
02:11 dcook Err, reliable hook
02:15 jcamins dcook: it'd be very nice.
02:15 jcamins Fortunately MARC is a recent development that takes that sort of thing into account.
02:15 jcamins :P
02:16 dcook hehe
02:18 dcook $v - Hours access method available
02:18 dcook I suppose some websites still have scheduled downtime, but I'm pretty sure that subfield was made for uptime...
02:19 jcamins Heh. Yup.

06:25 dcook opacsuppresion?
06:25 dcook sys pref that is
06:27 dcook Side note, how would one point to an XSLT on a different Koha site?
06:27 dcook In terms of forming the URL
06:29 bag http://media.bywatersolutions.com/path
06:30 bag I've checked opacsuppression like 10 times
06:30 dcook Weird...that method isn't working for me..

06:36 reiveune hello
06:36 bag yeah dcook the problem with my link is the import ref is pointing to /home/opac10
06:37 dcook Yeah, I noticed that, but it retrieved the xsl so overall it worked :)
06:37 bag if you copy that file and change the import ref to the local copy of MARC21slim etc...
06:37 bag <xsl:import href="/home/opac10/kohaclone/koha-tmpl/intranet-tmpl/prog/en/xslt/MARC21slim2intranetDetail.xsl"/>
06:37 dcook I wonder..
06:37 bag that line needs to be your local MARC21blah blah blah
06:38 dcook Mmm, right.
06:38 dcook Still, I can't even access the file itself :S
06:39 dcook It should just be mylink.com.au/xslt/MARC21slim2OPACDetail.xsl
06:39 dcook It seems..

09:15 gerundio I've found two pages on the koha website related to the software releases, http://koha-community.org/about/release-schedule/ and http://koha-community.org/category/release/
09:16 gerundio the calendar link on the top menu on the site doesn't show anything
09:16 gerundio is there any better place to look for an history of koha releases?
09:16 eythian if you want a history, probably history.txt in the release itself.

13:07 gabrielle_dusse ok thanks
13:07 tcohen i'll pick your first attempt
13:07 gerundio I'm looking at the
13:07 gerundio Subscription summary of a serial collection
13:08 gerundio I have a list of records with status Expected
13:10 gerundio when I try to edit those records via the "Edit serials" button and for those the Status select form element is disabled
13:10 gerundio can anyone point me out the rules that allow that form select element to disabled/enabled?
13:11 jcamins gerundio: you can only edit the first item with a status of "Expected," I think.
13:11 jcamins If you change the old ones to "Late," you'll be able to edit them all.
13:12 gerundio right now I'm unable to edit 12 records with Status Expected
13:12 bgkriegel joined #koha
13:12 gerundio does this make any sense?
13:13 gerundio I'm not a librarian, so I just received a call alerting me to this koha behaviour
13:14 gerundio which I don't know and don't understand
13:20 gabrielle_dusse tcohen: did you confirm my account?
13:20 jcamins gerundio: I am not 100% sure, but if my understanding of why it does what it does is correct, it does make a certain amount of sense: only one issue of a monthly journal will ever be expected at a time.
13:20 jcamins If it's October, the September issue is late, not expected.
13:20 tcohen gabrielle_dusse: bgkriegel is contacting you right now
13:20 bgkriegel gabrielle_dusse: I'll do that
13:21 gabrielle_dusse thanks
13:21 gerundio jcamins, fyi, someone added 12 issues with the same date for a given subscription
13:21 gerundio all of them are with status Expected
13:22 gerundio every record with date previous to those have status Arrived
13:23 jcamins gerundio: I don't know much about it, but I don't think that you'll be able to deal with this without a patch.
13:24 gerundio would changing the dates on those records do any good?
13:25 jcamins I don't think so. But I'm not 100% sure, so your best bet is probably to just experiment.

13:34 gerundio jcamins, changed the dates to match the weekly rule defined for this subscription
13:34 gerundio the form remaing with the disabled select elements for the 12 records
13:35 gerundio earlier you said "you can only edit the first item with a status of "Expected," I think"
13:35 gerundio in this case I'm unable to edit any record with status of "Expected"
13:36 jcamins gerundio: in that case, I'm thinking bug.
13:36 gerundio I'll look into the source code
13:36 jcamins It should definitely let you change the first one to "Late."
13:36 gerundio let me try to understand this feature
13:40 pastebot "gerundio" at 127.0.0.1 pasted "Serial edition" (9 lines) at http://paste.koha-community.org/108

13:41 jcamins Ooh. Expired subscription!
13:41 jcamins So, not a bug.

13:42 gerundio that's how I read it too
13:43 gerundio so my questions now are:
13:43 gerundio 1. what does $serinfo->{'status1'} stand for?
13:43 gerundio 2. what does $serinfo->{'cannotedit'} stand for?
13:44 jcamins I have no idea about either.
13:44 gerundio 3. how can I temporarily remove the expiration from this subscription to edit these records?
13:44 jcamins But an expired subscription would make sense.
13:44 jcamins Just renew it for another 12 issues.
13:45 gerundio I see Subscription history
13:46 gerundio Hint: you can update the serial history manually. This can be useful for an old subscription or to clean the existing history. Modify these fields with care, as future serial receive will continue to update them automatically.

15:10 eythian I suspect that the changes in paths may throw it a bit, but that'll probably the worst of it.

15:25 eythian I think it's rarely used.
15:26 jcamins drojf: you need to install mariadb-server and not mysql-server, I think.
15:26 eythian might be for creating new databases
15:26 jcamins If you install mysql-server first, you'll end up with incorrect configuration files.

15:52 drojf looks like installing with mysql and then switching to mariadb worked fine

17:07 mjk does anyone know a way of batch-generating lots of koha-compatible sequential barcodes in owrd or something
17:08 mjk preprinted barcodes from a commercial vendor are overpriced and my attempts to create barcodes with koha have brought nothing but pain...
17:09 jcamins mjk: choose a barcode font, use Excel equations to create a list of lots of numbers, change the font to the barcode font you chose earlier, and print?
17:10 jcamins "Koha-compatible" doesn't make sense when talking about barcodes. What you need to be compatible with is your barcode scanner.
17:10 kf ie--------------------------------------------
17:12 jcamins But I will say, for what it's worth, I'd just spend the 3.7 cents per label.
17:13 druthb kf++
17:14 mjk store-brand avery 5160-compatible blanks cost under 1 cent per label
17:14 kf huh?
17:15 jcamins mjk: I'm not saying it's not way less expensive. I'm saying having barcoded libraries, I'd consider the additional expense worth it.
17:15 jcamins But, as I said, it's easy to generate the barcodes. Excel will generate a list, and then you can just use mail merge to print them.
17:15 mjk my library is a science fiction club. every large expenditure comesbefore the business meeting and needs to be approved.
17:16 jcamins Actually, if you're good with Excel you can probably even print them directly out of Excel.
17:16 jcamins I am not very good with spreadsheet software so I couldn't say how, but that seems like a logical thing for it to be possible to do.
17:17 mjk even getting permission to install koha on a spare computer and start cataloging was like pulling teeth. arguing that we shopuld spend over $500 on labels just to make my life easier won't fly
17:18 jcamins Fair enough.
17:19 mjk i'm just lucky another member saw the value of the project and donated an old bluetooth barcode scanner...
17:25 * druthb is so old, she doesn't think of bluetooth as "old," remembering when serial scanners were the only way there was.
17:25 jcamins druthb: I apparently am so old too.

20:50 martian523 hi I have ver 3.10, just wondering if there's a way to merge multiple authorities consisting of same information
20:55 pianohacker there is misc/migration_tools/merge_authority.pl, but you need to manually give it two authids to merge
20:58 rangi :(
20:58 rangi http://durham.io/2013/07/09/se[…]ff-hillandale-rd/
20:58 tcohen :(
20:58 pianohacker that is unfortunate, yum is excellent
20:59 rangi off topic, does anyone know if koha works with refworks?
20:59 martian523 hmm...that's not really what i'm looking for
20:59 pianohacker martian523: You could _try_ dumping your authority records, then reimporting them but with a match rule using bulkmarkimport.pl
20:59 drojf :(
20:59 pianohacker martian523: You'd have to manually relink the authorities afterwards though
21:00 pianohacker well, link_bibs_to_authorities.pl
21:00 rangi martian523: there is a patch that i qaed recently to do it in the interface
21:00 wahanui i guess link_bibs_to_authorities.pl is almost certainly not the right tool for the job.
21:00 rangi not in 3.10.x tho
21:00 bag rangi I think there is something in the JQuery library that deals with RefWorks
21:00 martian523 so theres no click click click and "merge these authorities" tool
21:00 rangi cool
21:01 rangi martian523: not in 3.10.x in 3.14.x yes
21:01 martian523 o, then i should do an upgrade. =)
21:01 drojf 3.14 will be here in half a year ;)

21:02 drojf martian523: are you running a package installation of koha?

21:06 martian523 anyway, thanks!  you gave me a lot of help already
21:06 drojf you could, in theory, build your own debian package with 3.10 plus the patch that has the new function. depending on how important it is to you.
21:06 martian523 i'll see if they can do the patch
21:06 drojf but it is some work
21:07 drojf and if you got an it department that has to be convinced to do it that might be another problem ;)

21:26 maximep seth vidal is dead and almost all comments talk about the meaning of the words accident vs crime ?
21:27 rangi maximep: never ever ever read the comments
21:27 maximep like if it was on the comments of a blog post that they would decide
21:27 * wizzyrea suspects that this is how geeks show grief
21:27 maximep I was hoping for comments celebrating what the guy did
21:27 rangi its my rule of thumb for the entire internet
21:27 cait joined #koha
21:27 wizzyrea yea, don't read the comments
21:28 maximep well in the case of the death of Ryan Davis (of giantbomb gaming site), *all* comments were the best
21:28 wizzyrea it's a very analytical thing though, obsessing over "was it an accident or a crime"
21:28 drojf i stil very much appreciate rangi telling me about the youtube comments extension for firefox that changes all comment text to herp derp
21:28 maximep I guess programmers and linux people care about dumb details more
21:28 cait hi #koha
21:28 wizzyrea hi cait

21:28 drojf hi cait
21:29 rangi hi cait

21:29 cait wizzyrea: trea wants me to buy an txtrbeagle?
21:29 trea ^.^
21:30 cait oh there he is :)
21:30 trea i'd buy one, but they want me to be in germany. strange.
21:30 pianohacker drojf: That extension is amazing! More interesting than hiding them, but it helps curb my self-destructive impulse to read youtube comments
21:31 cait trea: heh - do you want me to buy one for you? ;)
21:31 pianohacker rangi: I'd say reddit is pretty much the only exception to that rule, and even that can take some subreddit filtering :P
21:31 rangi yeah
21:31 rangi some blogs are ok, where they curate
21:32 drojf pianohacker: i think reddit is unusable without throwing away a lot of subreddits nowadays
21:32 wizzyrea ^.^
21:32 rangi im totally fine with blogs where comments are curated, its your blog, you can allow on it what you want
21:32 rangi is the way i see it
21:32 wizzyrea it's really only proper censorship if the state does it.
21:32 rangi i dont let through a lot of the dumb comments on my blog
21:33 drojf we have the fine tradition of shouting "CENSORSHIP OMGWTF!!11" when somebody deletes comments on his/her blog. why should people allow every idiot to comment on their own blogs? :/
21:33 pianohacker drojf: yeah, I'm only subscribed to about 3 of the default 20
21:34 pianohacker you can curate an _amazing_ information feed with reddit, but it takes digging
21:34 drojf wizzyrea: exactly
21:34 rangi drojf: exactly
21:34 pianohacker but then you find beautiful things like http://www.reddit.com/r/Justrolledintotheshop/
21:34 drojf pianohacker: i have not used it much recently. i think i would have to dig deeper than i have time to do
21:35 pianohacker it's worth the effort imo :)
21:36 drojf the koha subreddit is not very active ^^
21:38 maximep a koha section on stackoverflow would be fun
21:38 rangi there was a library section
21:39 tcohen hi rangi
21:39 drojf hi tcohen
21:39 maximep imo the format of stackoverflow where you upvote the best answer is more useful than searching on a ml
21:39 tcohen hi drojf
21:40 drojf maximep: as long as the voting is done by people that know what they are doing…
21:40 drojf (unlike on reddit :P)
21:40 wizzyrea well, the asker usually submits the answer that fixed it for them

21:41 wizzyrea on stackoverflow
21:41 maximep there's a pretty good WP extension that duplicates stackoverflow. I wonder if it would be cool on k-c.org
21:41 wizzyrea hm what is it called?
21:41 rangi hi tcohen
21:41 maximep except for the part that I rewrote half of it. trying to remember it's name
21:41 tcohen i'm stuck
21:42 tcohen my battery life goes down, because of crappy support on the kernel

21:43 gmcharlt er, apropos
21:43 tcohen and am thinking of using it to virtualize my dev toolbox
21:45 wizzyrea maximep: did you pay for the full version?
21:45 drojf "…just like StackOverflow, Yahoo Answers…" it's really ridiculous to see these two next to each other :D
21:45 wizzyrea and what compelled you to rewrite half of it?
21:45 wizzyrea because those are not exactly inspiring statements of support ^.^
21:46 maximep wizzyrea: I don't think so. My company never pays for anything
21:46 maximep because it wasn't done at all to be customizable
21:46 wizzyrea if the plugin were amazing I would pay the 9 bucks
21:46 maximep and we had to add stuff to it
21:46 maximep so would i
21:46 * wizzyrea checks to see if it's actually open source
21:46 maximep the lite version is
21:46 maximep well
21:46 maximep "open"
21:46 wizzyrea everything we do is 100% GPL, so you can customize it as much as you want, we’ll even give you a hand!
21:47 wizzyrea open source doesn't mean "free"
21:47 wizzyrea it just means open :)
21:47 maximep yes, that's why I wrote "open" after. free isn't open hehe
21:47 drojf "If you liked Q&A Lite, you’ll  love... Infinite SEO" sounds lie a threat
21:47 maximep lol
21:48 drojf s/lie/like
21:50 wizzyrea the resistance I feel we will come up against, with using something like q and a

21:51 wizzyrea so in all likelihood, without extensive tending by someone, it won't actually ever get used
21:52 wizzyrea I could be wrong about that.
21:52 maximep only speaking from my experience, I don't use mailing lists
21:52 wizzyrea but a Koha user definitely gets the best exposure for issues by sending questions to the list
21:52 maximep never did, never will. I don't even know how they work
21:52 wizzyrea mailing lists?
21:52 wahanui mailing lists are http://koha-community.org/supp[…]ha-mailing-lists/
21:52 wizzyrea just like that :P
21:52 maximep that's always been a problem with tons of projects
21:53 maximep I never know who to reply to, always get confused about flow of the conversation
21:53 maximep 95% of messages seem to be reply text
21:53 wizzyrea well you can browse the koha list through gmane or another web portal
21:53 wizzyrea that does threading
21:54 wizzyrea see at the bottom of that page
21:54 wizzyrea you can even reply there
21:54 maximep sure, that's what I use most of the time
21:54 wizzyrea and the replies go to the list
21:54 wizzyrea oh so you *do* use them
21:54 wizzyrea :)
21:54 maximep but still, it's hard to find an answer to a question hidden in 12 replies
21:55 maximep i'm suscribed to all koha digests of the ml
21:55 wizzyrea yea, my thought is that you really need a combo of the lists + upvoting
21:55 maximep but never answered anything
21:55 wizzyrea ugh digests are terrible.
21:55 rambutan gmcharlt: apropos is a perfectly good Linux command that I never use because it takes me too long to figure out how to spell it
21:55 wizzyrea no wonder you're frustrated.
21:56 wizzyrea gmail is good for lists because it has the threaded view
21:56 wizzyrea bad because spying.
21:56 gmcharlt rambutan: heh
21:57 maximep hmmm the best would be a forum/ml/stackoverflow all combined
21:57 maximep haha
21:58 maximep well hmmm there's probably a vanilla (forum) plugin for that
21:58 wizzyrea now, if you could take the web version of the mailing lists, and add upvoting of answers to that
21:58 wizzyrea it would be a winner.
21:58 wizzyrea then the mailing list users could continue doing that, and the people who like web forums could do that
21:58 wizzyrea and they all see the same stuff.
21:58 wizzyrea :P
21:59 * wizzyrea will be expecting your solution to that
21:59 wizzyrea ;) j/k
21:59 maximep I really like http://vanillaforums.org/discussions because it's usable as a forum, but you can use it as a mailing ling
21:59 maximep *list
21:59 maximep add upvoting to that and it's perfect =)
22:00 wizzyrea hm
22:01 maximep maybe it's because I used forums for years before discovering ml
22:01 maximep when I switched to linux
22:01 wizzyrea could be.
22:01 wizzyrea probably it's just a preference :)
22:01 wizzyrea don't need to have a reason to have feels
22:02 maximep like everything, once we get used to something, it's hard to learn something new
22:02 drojf i'd prefer not to have discussions about why so many people downvoted xy. like, another live dvd
22:03 gmcharlt maximep: yeah, the flipside is that a *lot* of librarians are very used to MLs
22:03 maximep announcing a live cd isn't really a question and is better suited to mailing lists
22:03 maximep mailing lists are the best for announcements
22:06 drojf trea: you can only use the beagle with an android smartphone because it requires a certain app to send books? :/
22:06 trea that's not a problem for me personally
22:07 drojf it would be for me
22:07 pianohacker drojf: no smartphone, or different platform?
22:08 drojf different plattform. but i would also find it ridiculous if i had an android
22:09 pianohacker removes a lot of complexity from the reader :)
22:09 jcamins Alas, no cait.
22:10 drojf • Store and read up to five books at a time … • 4GB internal memory
22:10 jcamins drojf: you may know the answer to this: I was asked if there were public Z39.50 servers for the major German consortia.
22:10 drojf ???
22:10 jcamins drojf: huh?
22:10 cjh drojf: my bet is that some of that 4GB is used by something already, or the books are REALLY high-def :p
22:11 drojf jcamins: i think you usually need an account. which you can get either by being a member or by just asking
22:11 drojf but cait will know better
22:11 drojf cjh: biiig letters lol
22:11 jcamins Thanks. I'll ask cait tomorrow.
22:12 cjh drojf: books in 1080p !
22:13 drojf oh no i broke my notebook power supply again. either i have to take soldering lessons or finally buy a new one
22:13 wizzyrea jcamins: irspy?
22:13 wahanui irspy is a good source for identifying Z39.50 targets. See http://irspy.indexdata.com.
22:13 drojf cjh: lol
22:13 drojf cjh: on the 800xsomething screen. but in theory, it's great resolution ;)
22:14 drojf and a really fine gray scale. with gazillions of different grays
22:14 cjh heh
22:14 drojf jcamins: looking for something specific?
22:14 cjh marketing department worked hard on that.
22:15 jcamins wizzyrea: that'd require me to know the names of the consortia.
22:15 wizzyrea you can't search by country
22:15 wizzyrea ?
22:15 jcamins drojf: no, I was asked if there were Z39.50 servers for the large consortia.
22:15 wizzyrea I thought you could
22:15 jcamins wizzyrea: ooh, maybe.
22:15 jcamins Cool! Do you know, I never knew that.
22:16 wizzyrea but your point stands, you'd still possibly have to know the name of the consortia.
22:16 wizzyrea hehe

22:16 wahanui i heard highfive was o/*HIGHFIVE*o
