00:33 phlunk3 hey guys, just about to have a librarian visit me as she has tried to install koha on a debian machine from git and is having problems. I have only ever installed koha via the packages. Are there also packages available for debian? and if not can anyone point me to an installation guide from git (I didnt google yet, about to look ;))
00:34 phlunk3 found the directions now ;)
00:37 phlunk3 she was saying she had issues setting up the cron jobs, but I don't see any mention of cron requirements in this install method ([…]d%29#Installation ) am I missing something?
00:58 hankbank left #koha
01:21 cait phlunk3: there is an example file for the cronjobs in koha
01:21 cait phlunk3: and information about the different jobs can be found in the manual
01:21 phlunk3 thanks cait, in the git repo is an example you mean?
01:21 cait yes
01:21 phlunk3 still waiting to see the librarians system so not 100% sure what help she needs yet :)
01:21 cait misc/cronjobs or something like that
01:26 phlunk3 thanks cait.

03:39 Irma hi all from Thane
03:43 phlunk3 completely fresh ubuntu install, I want to install koha-common, do I need to install mysql-server and apache first or will they be prompted? and is there any online walkthrough for this process? can't seem to find anything for ubuntu using koha-common online but am sure I've used it before.

03:47 phlunk3 begging for an answer guys :P got someone from a np here who will be off to fiji shortly to show off koha to the local councils and just needs a base install to show oh her laptop.
03:49 druthb phlunk3: when you do the apt-get install, it should pick up mysql-server and apache2 automagically.
03:50 Khdw I want using dedicated server on the internet. Like

04:00 Phlunk4 hi guys, can someone tell me how to add the koha repo for ubuntu so I can use apt to install koha-common? I already added deb squeeze main to my sources.list :S
04:02 ibeardslee should just now be able to to 'apt-get update' and then 'apt-get install koha-common' .. I think
04:04 Phlunk4 any idea about this issue?
04:05 Phlunk4 koha-common: Depends: libhttp-oai-perl but it is not installable
04:05 Phlunk4 Depends: liblocale-currency-format-perl but it is not installable
04:05 Phlunk4 Depends: libmemoize-memcached-perl but it is not installable
04:05 Phlunk4 Depends: libpdf-api2-simple-perl but it is not installable
04:05 Phlunk4 Depends: libtext-csv-encoded-perl but it is not installable
04:05 Phlunk4 sorry for spam
04:06 Phlunk4 nm will work on it tonight from home :) maybe cause I had 64 bit ubuntu though?
04:07 ibeardslee shouldn't matter
04:07 ibeardslee there is some magic incantation that should sort that
04:08 ibeardslee 'apt-get -f install koha-common'  might do it
04:08 Phlunk4 lol
04:08 Phlunk4 that will mean I am missing dependancies though yeah?
04:09 ibeardslee if I understand it right, it'll work a bit hard at getting them sorted
04:09 Phlunk4 says the same with the -f also unfortunately
04:09 ibeardslee could also try installing each of those dependancies individually
04:09 ibeardslee oh

08:58 smita okay the install seems to have gone okay, the question I now have is, how would I access it via the browser? when I access my fake domain I just get to the apache root on the server, sorry if this is covered somewhere :S have been struggling a couple of days now.
08:59 druthb magnuse: in my final slide, same as in at KUDOS.  I'll be uploading slides to my blog later.
08:59 magnuse yay
08:59 magnuse smita: did you edit /etc/hosts
08:59 smita yes
09:00 magnuse hm, do you get "it works!"
09:00 smita I pointed the fake url to which is just the apache root not the koha root I guess :S
09:00 magnuse maybe the default site is masking koha?
09:01 magnuse what have you got in /etc/apache2/sistes-enabled ?
09:01 smita have not touched that file, will go have a look thanks
09:02 magnuse it's a directory, it should have a file for your koha site
09:02 smita 2 files, mylibrary and 000-default
09:02 magnuse a hah - 000-default might be the problem
09:03 magnuse try "sudo a2dissite default" to disable the default site (unless you use it for something else, of course)
09:03 magnuse or is that "sudo a2dissite 000-default"? i never remember...
09:04 magnuse then do "sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 reload" and see if that helped
09:05 smita first didnt help but did ask for reload (which I did) second gave "default site already disabled"
09:05 smita ooh sorry
09:05 smita https: works :P
09:06 smita oh no it doesnt ;)
09:06 smita that is just a real site and my hosts file isnt working I guess lol

09:08 cait you could start with something easy for sign-off
09:08 cait there is a patch from liz for adding a div with an id tag
09:08 smita seems to work fine from localhost url :P
09:08 Oak sure, wait
09:08 smita however it then goes "The Koha Online Catalog is offline for system maintenance. We'll be back soon! If you have any questions, please contact the Site Administrator"
09:09 magnuse smita: you need to go to localhost:8080 and do the web part of the install!
09:09 Oak there is one 3.4 installation on my Slackware. can i have a wiki link on how to upgrade old installations?
09:09 smita not sure why my hosts file change isnt taking effect :S
09:09 smita thank you magnuse , been a great help so far :)
09:09 magnuse smita: the good news is you a re almost done! ;-)
09:09 smita 8080 isnt enabled I guess, any idea on doing that properly?
09:10 magnuse hm, what do you get when you open localhost:8080 ?
09:10 smita problem loading page, so I guess apache isnt listening there, Ill google that though Im sure its covered online :)
09:11 magnuse did you add "Listen 8080" to /etc/apache2/ports.conf (i might be remebering that name wrong)?
09:12 smita that worked, but unfortunately it just says url / wasnt found on this server.
09:13 smita could be an issue with me not using the correct domain?
09:13 magnuse smita: yes, might be
09:13 smita not sure why my hosts file change didnt take effect, really weird cause this is a fresh install too.
09:14 magnuse have a look in /etc/apache2/sistes-enabled/mylibrary and see if ServerName and ServerAlias says what you thin it should say
09:16 smita yeah it does, its the hosts file issue, will reboot the pc see if that helps the dashed thing take affect, be back shortly.

10:04 smita it must be indexed now because it works! thank you so much magnuse for putting up with all my questions :) everyone else too for holding your laughter in ;) I will try this again tomorrow if I can find a spare machine to do it with and write step for step what I did so that someone else can follow it in the future if needs be :)

12:21 jwagner good morning/evening all
12:21 jwagner How is the conference going?
12:21 sekjal jwagner:  very well
12:21 jwagner Hope to be there next year
12:21 sekjal second day is complete; we're getting ready for a cultural program and dinner with our hosts
12:22 sekjal lots of good presentations on how Koha works in India (as well as what they need to make it work better)
12:22 sekjal also got some previews of new developments that are in progress or soon to be funded
12:22 sekjal very exciting stuff

12:29 sekjal oleonard:  hopefully many will show up to the hackfest, and we'll do an introductory developer training
12:29 sekjal I've had several areas of need identified to me, and I've got some leads on how to fix the problems
12:30 sekjal we're also pushing translation very hard; Hindi is only 31%, and it's the only one of the 15 languages here with a file

12:38 sekjal jcamins:  right, wouldn't want Git to feed the records, just track the changes to them by multiple users

14:18 oleonard Besides, gmcharlt turned in his dungeonmaster credentials a while ago (not that his advice is any less valuable)
14:18 magnuse of course 3.6.0 is the latest and greatest, but i suspsect not a lot of libraries are using that in production yet

14:33 * tcohen is thinking of hot cheese right now
14:33 * oleonard finds that Mozilla doesn't think omelette is a word
14:33 NCARLibrary so i could, in theory, jump directly to 3.6, but it could prove foolhardy?
14:33 ebegin oleonard, it would if your language was french :)
14:34 oleonard There hasn't been much time to catch bugs in 3.6 NCARLibrary
14:34 wizzyrea yea, I'd wait for the first revision
14:34 oleonard Especially with KohaCon underway
14:34 oleonard ebegin: Mozilla likes "omelet" instead, which looks wrong to me.
14:34 NCARLibrary ooh, 3.4.5 has "improved breadcrumbs"! nice.
14:35 ebegin is omelet a word in english ?
14:35 wizzyrea apparently
14:35 magnuse 3.4.5 - an omelette with improved breadcrumbs...
14:36 ebegin from wikipedia : "In cuisine, an omelette or omelet is a dish..."
14:36 oleonard Is there a word for which omelette is the diminutive form?
14:38 NCARLibrary Om
14:39 * wizzyrea giggles
14:39 NCARLibrary Grammarist says: For the dish consisting of beaten eggs cooked until set and folded over, Australian, British, and Canadian writers prefer the French spelling, omelette. American writers prefer omelet by a wide margin, and U.S. dictionaries and usage guides concur.
14:39 ebegin The spelling omelette evolved in old French from une amelette: a wide, flat frying pan. After a good spin on the orthographical Ferris wheel of Middle French, after many spelling alterations, ultimately amelette does derive from Latin lamella meaning thin layer, thin blade or slender leaf, referring to the thin blade of iron from which a blacksmith would have hammered out at the forge the earliest frying pan.
14:39 magnuse "From French omelette, from alemette, from alemelle (knife blade), probably derived from la lemelle, from Latin lamella (thin plate)."
14:40 * wizzyrea feels educated now

18:03 jcamins wahanui: jcamins?
18:03 wahanui i heard jcamins was supposed to be an outstanding cook. or well-traveled and brilliant. or trying to think of a solution, but short of a set of three sysprefs (ShelfBrowserUsesLocation, ShelfBrowserUsesCcode, and ShelfBrowserUsesHomeBranch), I don't really have any ideas. or awesome fixing broken email notifications or the wizard that forges queries in the deep fires of zebra
18:04 * jcamins guesses he's still connected, since wahanui heard his existential query.
18:08 oleonard Not only do you exist, but you are quite complex.

19:19 wizzyrea ?
19:19 wizzyrea I have a opac styling conundrum
19:19 jcamins_away talljoy: 24 degrees Celcius is cold for you?!?
19:19 wizzyrea an* opac
19:19 * oleonard holds perfectly still

19:21 oleonard Oh, go ahead.
19:21 talljoy jcamins.  i'm *always* cold.
19:21 talljoy in fact today, i had to break out a sweater
19:21 wizzyrea I can't figure out what the deal is with the yui-g and yui-ge on opac-main
19:21 wizzyrea it has to do with being logged in or out
19:22 huginn New commit(s) needsignoff: [Bug 7128] logged in and logged out states of are hard to style <[…]w_bug.cgi?id=7128>
19:22 wizzyrea actually ignore that
19:22 wizzyrea that needs signoff
19:23 oleonard When you have <div class="yui-ge"> it means that <div class="yui-u first"></div> and <div class="yui-u"></div> will form 75%/25% columns
19:24 wizzyrea Ah, to accommodate the login screen
19:24 wizzyrea when logged out
19:24 oleonard When you have <div class="yui-g"> it means that <div class="yui-u first"></div> and <div class="yui-u"></div> will form 50%/50% columns

19:25 oleonard But there are lots of places in the templates where <div class="yui-g"></div> is used as a generic container without a <div class="yui-u"> inside

19:25 wizzyrea ah I think that's what I'm coming up against possibly
19:26 oleonard That scheme was supposed to be a lot more flexible with regard to the opac main page than it has turned out to be.
