well its up to colin to decide |
06:34 |
|
chris |
i will be pulling from his branches in future, once he has qa'd |
06:34 |
|
chris |
im just pushing things at the moment as he is on leave, back this week |
06:35 |
|
chris |
once he is up at running, all patches submitted will get checked by him, and i will pull from his repo |
06:35 |
|
chris |
so don't really need a tag, as everything goes through qa |

I am just concerned what the right user setup for koha should be. do I create a new user? and how do I deal with issues of permission error since the koha files are in a place writable only by root |

Hi all :) |
15:05 |
|
janPasi |
Is there a way to completely clear Koha's reservoir? |
15:05 |
|
janPasi |
i.e. remove all the biblios in it |
15:06 |
|
bigbrovar |
I do that from the database |
15:07 |
|
bigbrovar |
janPasi: go to the koha mysql database and delete from biblios |
15:08 |
|
janPasi |
bigbrovar: err... exactly how do i do that? |
15:09 |
|
bigbrovar |
mysql -u root -p |
15:09 |
|
gmcharlt |
WAIT |
15:10 |
|
janPasi |
yeah, that i know, and then select database koha; |
15:10 |
|
gmcharlt |
sorry for shouting, but the reservoir != the set of active bibs |
15:10 |
|
janPasi |
and all that |
15:10 |
|
gmcharlt |
if you want to delete just the reservoir bibs, the table is import_biblios, not biblios |
15:10 |
|
janPasi |
i don't want to get rid of active biblios :D |
15:10 |
|
bigbrovar |
use koha (your koha database) |
15:10 |
|
bigbrovar |
and delete from biblio; |
15:11 |
|
wizzyrea |
no, don't do that |
15:11 |
|
gmcharlt |
bigbrovar: doing that will get rid of janPasi's active bibs |
15:11 |
|
wizzyrea |
do what gmcharlt suggested |
15:11 |
|
wizzyrea |
^^ bad |
15:11 |
|
janPasi |
so i'd do something like use database koha; |
15:11 |

wizzyrea: I didn't get his msg clearly then |
15:11 |
|
wizzyrea |
it's cool :) |
15:11 |
|
janPasi |
and then delete table import_biblios; or something? |
15:11 |
|
bigbrovar |
gmcharlt: thanks for correcting me |
15:12 |
|
janPasi |
well it's drop table, but anyway |
15:13 |

15:13 |

delete from import_biblios; |

gmcharlt: wizzyrea: I have koha runing on debian squeeze using the pacakge built for it. after setting up everything (apt-get install koha) and following this wikihttp://wiki.koha-community.org[…]ueeze#Quick_Start I noticed koha files are located in /usr/share/koha which is only writable by root. |
15:14 |

ok, thanks :) |
15:14 |
|
janPasi |
i'll try that |
15:15 |
|
gmcharlt |
bigbrovar: yes, and that's the normal convention for Debian packages |
15:15 |
|
bigbrovar |
is that ideal? cus the last installation I did which I had to build from source (3.0.6) the koha $HOME was management by a koha user |
15:15 |
|
wizzyrea |
right, you probably did it as a dev install? |
15:15 |
|
bigbrovar |
ok so I would not have permmission issues when running cronjobs etc |
15:16 |
|

I haven't tried out the packages yet, I can't speak to that :/ |
15:16 |
|

but you shouldn't have an issue that I can think of |

There is a syntax error. You need to make sure that every opening tag is closed. |

|
wizzyrea |
so every <ldapserver> needs to be closed with a </ldapserver> for example |
15:33 |

anyone here who can help with getting zebra setup on debian squeeze? I've followed the instructions available at http://wiki.koha-community.org[…]on_Debian_Squeeze but I'm stuck trying to get zebra to work. My mysql database is on a different server, so I chose manual setup. Was that the wrong choice? The koha instance is up and working. I can log in to the administration panel. I just can't get zebra-rebuild to work. |

is there anything in place in koha that allows checkout / checkin history to be tracked? (i.e. when a patron of a specific category checked an item out, when they returned it, what item it was) |
21:00 |
|
chris |
yes |
21:00 |
|
chris |
but it depends if you live in a country where it is safe to keep that |
21:01 |
|
wizzyrea |
it's on the circulation page, a tab at the left called "circulation history" |
21:01 |
|
chris |
koha will track those things in the statistics table, which you can query with the report writer, but in some places with draconian laws, it is policy to delete that |
21:02 |
|
owen |
There's not a pref to hide the circulation history tab is there? |
21:02 |
|
wizzyrea |
not that I'm aware of |
21:02 |
|
chris |
theres a cron job to make it have no info in it ever |
21:03 |
|
owen |
Does that job affect the "previous borrower" info on moredetail.pl? |
21:04 |
|
Migs |
how does Koha compare to Alexandria? |
21:04 |
|
chris |
owen: yes |
21:05 |
|
chris |
Migs: never used Alexandria so i have no idea |
21:06 |
|
wizzyrea |
We have several libraries that have moved away from alexandria to koha |
21:06 |
|
wizzyrea |
afaict, they like it better. |
21:06 |
|
wizzyrea |
what specifically are you wanting comparisons of? |
21:06 |
|
robin |
Migs: they're completely different :) alexandria is a personal book tracking thing, koha is a full library management system. |
21:06 |
|
robin |
really? people have used alexandria in a real library? |
21:06 |
|
wizzyrea |
alexandria is mainly for school libraries |
21:07 |
|
wizzyrea |
is why it looks like a toy. |
21:07 |
|
robin |
I used to to track my own books a while back, so either it's gotten heaps better, or they're really using the wrong thing. |
21:07 |
|
wizzyrea |
yea, people use it in real libraries |
21:07 |
|
robin |
http://alexandria.rubyforge.org/ <-- this alexandria? |
21:07 |
|
wizzyrea |
hm. this alexandria wasn't … no, def not |
21:08 |
|
wizzyrea |
different thing |
21:08 |
|
robin |
ah |
21:08 |
|
chris |
owen: and yes there is a pref to hide the circ history tab |
21:08 |
|
wizzyrea |
surprised there isn't a lawsuit on that one |
21:08 |
|
chris |
owen: intranetreadinghistory |
21:08 |
|
chris |
and opacreadinghistory |
21:08 |
|
wizzyrea |
oooo |
21:09 |
|
chris |
stored regardless though |
21:09 |
|
chris |
so that doesnt protect you from the FBI |
21:09 |
|
owen |
I thought that only hid the reading history tab from the patron record, not the circulation history tab from the biblio record display |
21:09 |
|
chris |
so its kinda pointless |
21:09 |
|
wizzyrea |
I thought BL had an "anonymize reading history" function |
21:09 |
|
wizzyrea |
maybe in the patches for 3.4? |

I just hate Alexandria, and I only started using it last week |
21:11 |
|
wizzyrea |
heh |
21:11 |
|
wizzyrea |
well, what do you hate about it? |
21:11 |
|
Migs |
I NEED to find some alternative, and approach upper management about it |
21:11 |
|
robin |
it does look like a toy, doesn't it? |
21:12 |
|
Migs |
(1) the interface isn't that intuitive, (2) the admin panel is a pain, (3) not great barcode support from what I've seen, (4) I'll find more no doubt |
21:12 |
