12:32 Braedon i indeed am

13:01 chris_n does anyone else find the inability to absolutely control the print margins in FF very irksome?
13:02 * chris_n did some preliminary work on an html export option for the labels creator this weekend and was stymied by this apparent lack of ability in FF
13:03 owen chris_n: Are FF's page margin settings not working correctly?
13:04 chris_n that is correct from my observations
13:05 chris_n even those in about:config have little to no effect
13:05 * owen has never tried to print something from FF which needed precision
13:05 chris_n FF seems to want to impose a 0.5 inch margin regardless of what the user desires
13:05 kf left #koha
13:05 owen I have however had FF unceremoniously crash when trying to print some pages, so I often open up *shudder* IE to print
13:06 chris_n and there appear to be many and loud complaints to this effect for many revisions of FF
13:06 chris_n at any rate, it is a major hold up to using html output to print labels
13:07 * chris_n figured that such an option would overcome the utf-8 problems inherent to the pdf exporter
13:07 * chris_n wants a browser that works like he wants it to and wants it at least a year ago if possible :-)

16:27 reva Hi all, there was some issue with mibbit. I am reva, but it is not taking my name input. I am not able to find the misc/migration_tools script in my Koha 3.0.6 Live CD VirtualBox ll. I would like to test importing Marc records into the database.

16:30 joetho hi reva, hi druthb, hi everybody else, and KF: can you ask your serverside sip2 person if your sip2 authentication uses a username:password, or just a password?

16:33 reva Hi joetho:. jcamins: I have /etc which is where the Koha is in the Ubuntu file system. But there are other folders in /etc (such as Perl, p5) but no misc under /etc or /Koha. Clone search brought up some results (such bomberclone, ntfsclone) but no kohaclone.

17:32 reva so anyone for my question on showing  "see also" names in search results in OPAC?
17:46 reva the silence is deafening. in the LC catalog they give me the option to save it in non-Unicode/MARC-8 and MARC Unicode/UTF-8); when saved the files have .cgi extensions. So how would I import them into Koha?
17:46 jcamins reva: Tools->Stage MARC Records for Import.
17:47 jcamins Choose the file (it doesn't matter what the extension is).
17:47 reva and what editor would let me read a .cgi file? (i.e., if it is human readable).
17:47 jcamins Follow the instructions. :)
17:47 reva ok jcamins:
17:47 jcamins It's just a binary MARC file.
17:47 jcamins MarcEdit.
17:48 jcamins You should download the records as MARC Unicode/UTF-8.
17:48 jcamins But I think you'd be better off using Z39.50.
17:49 jcamins Downloading it onto your desktop adds a bunch of extra steps.
17:49 chobbs Am I right that there is no place in the staff client to set the number of renewals when creating circ and fine rules? I've been setting renewalsallowed in the issuingrules table by hand...
17:50 reva Ok, I did download Unicode/Utf-8. Isn't MARC edit a software I have to install though? I have used z39.50, but this is for practicing staging and importing.
17:50 jcamins chobbs: we don't use the circulation module at all, but that doesn't seem right. I'm checking the bug database now.
17:50 jcamins reva: Yes, if you want software that will read MARC files, you'll need to download it.
17:51 owen reva: Why not import the record into Koha and edit it there?
17:51 chobbs jcamins:  nothing poped out of bugzilla for me.
17:51 jcamins chobbs: there is no bug reported about not being edit renewalsallowed.
17:51 jcamins Which makes me think that maybe it's just counter-intuitive. ;)
17:51 reva jcamins: lots of university online catalog servers are not z39.50 compliant. But they do let you save their marc files for copy cataloging (via saving and importing into your library system.)
17:52 cait joined #koha
17:52 chobbs jcamins: Well, everything else in issuingrules is set from the Circulation and Fines page, so I'm pretty sure it ought to be there :-)
17:53 cait hi #koha
17:53 jcamins chobbs: I see the option to set "Renewals Allowed (count)" on that page.
17:53 jcamins Hi cait
17:53 cait hi again jcamins :)
17:53 cait what are you searching for?
17:53 reva owen: I am not sure what you are saying. From inside Koha I know to use the z39.50; but many online catalogs do not share their bib records that way.
17:53 jcamins I don't know what it does, or how to test it, but I do see that option.
17:54 reva hi cait::)
17:54 chobbs jcamins:  Weird, I don't. Wasn't there under 3.00.05 and I just upgraded to 3.2 beta and it still isn't there.
17:54 cait hi reva
17:54 jcamins cait: chobbs is trying to set renewalsallowed, but there's no option for that in the issuing rules screen on his install.
17:55 cait ah
17:55 cait it's new in 3.2

17:55 jcamins Unfortunately I have more than exhausted my knowledge of the subject.

18:02 reva jcamins:I got an answer for my question from Mizst:) : This question is in fact Live CD specific. :-)  The file is at this location:  /usr/share/koha/bin/migration_tools/bulkmarcimport.pl  By the way, you need to use sudo when performing the search, otherwise it can’t access certain subdirectories, hence the error messages.
18:03 reva so how does the sudo command go? (I kind of get it gives me root privileges)
18:04 jcamins Put sudo at the beginning of whatever command you want to run.
18:04 jcamins But I don't think there is anything you will need to do as root.
18:05 bankhead joined #koha
18:06 reva well, I guess running a script needs extra privileges then:).
18:06 reva jcamins: I will try your command now with sudo in front now.
18:06 jcamins reva: what command?
18:07 jcamins Mizst answered your question.
18:07 jcamins You do not need to search for the script, you know where it is.
18:08 reva ok, I got it; but would I be able to run the script without elevated permissions?
18:09 jcamins In fact, you *must* run the script as your koha user.
18:09 collum left #koha
18:09 jcamins If you run it as root, it might mess things up.
18:12 reva ok, I see. I am a little puzzled about what bulkmarcimport does. I mean what are the situations I would use the script?
18:13 jcamins reva: it is for importing MARC records.
18:13 chobbs cait:  Does koha cache "compiled" pages somewhere on the server? that is, does it build pages with tempaltes and then keep static versions in a cache that might be messing me up?
18:14 owen No
18:14 chobbs owen:  thx
18:14 owen chobbs: Every time I've wondered the same it's been because I was working with the wrong language template
18:15 chobbs owen:  Is there a way for me to prove that I'm using the right template? language pref is set to 'en', but cait suggests I'm using en_NZ because of "Issue" and "Return"

18:15 chobbs owen:  well, duh :-)
18:16 chobbs owen:  href="/intranet-tmpl/prog/en-NZ/lib/jquery/plugins/ui.tabs.css
18:16 reva jcamins: I found the script. So I have a staged record. Do I invoke the bulkmarcimport.pl to import it into the database? (I realize bulk means a lot). I was just going to use one to test.
18:16 owen :)
18:16 chobbs owen:  So now how do I fix it? Since my pref is set correctly, why isn't it using en?
18:16 reva jcamins: or am I confounding a lot of things. owen: you are saying a lot of obvious things today:).
18:18 owen chobbs: You're looking at the "language" system preference?
18:18 chobbs owen:  correct
18:19 owen ...And only "English(en)" is checked?
18:19 chobbs owen:  correct (and shouldn't that be a radio button?)
18:19 owen chobbs: Which version are you on?
18:19 chobbs 3.01.00.140
18:20 jcamins reva: you need the Stage MARC Records for Import utility.
18:20 jcamins Tools->Stage MARC Records for Import.
18:20 jcamins bulkmarcimport.pl is the script you asked about way back at the beginning of our conversation.
18:20 jcamins But it's not what you actually want. ;)
18:20 owen chobbs: There are a couple of different things here: 1) What languages are available for use in the OPAC or staff client
18:20 owen 2) What language has been *chosen* for the OPAC or staff client
18:21 owen Number 1 is what the preferences set up
18:21 owen Number 2 is done via the language links at the bottom of the page
18:21 owen chobbs: Do you have more than one language enabled?
18:21 chobbs owen:  Got it. I don't see the language sleector at the bottom of the page, presumably because only 'en' is selected.
18:22 reva ok, I thought as much. Oh I see. I import the staged records using Manage.. in the Tools section. But then when do I actually use the script I asked at the beginning. (I told you I was confounded.):)
18:22 magnus joined #koha
18:22 owen chobbs: "English(en-NZ)" shows up in your preferences but it's unchecked?
18:22 chobbs owen:  Interesting, if I add en_NZ, I get the selector, but if I choose en, it reverts back to en_NZ
18:22 jcamins reva: you don't need to use the script at all.
18:22 chobbs owen:  that was correct
18:23 jcamins You then go to Tools->Manage Staged Records, and click the "Import" link.
18:23 owen chobbs: Possibly related, Bug 5052
18:23 munin Bug http://bugs.koha-community.org[…]w_bug.cgi?id=5052 normal, P5, ---, chris, NEW, Can't choose languages if all choices are sublanguages
18:24 reva ok, now why was I told to use it by some people? (I mean I would have naturally looked for GUI like the Manage ... and not looked for a command line thing like bulkmarcimport, if you get what I mean.)
18:25 chobbs owen:  Interesting - If I add es-ES, I can now choose en
18:25 chobbs owen:  so it does sound like that bug indeed
18:26 jcamins reva: because we probably thought you were trying to import a lot of data.
18:27 owen chobbs: I'm glad we can at least identify the problem as a known issue
18:27 chobbs owen:  :-)
18:27 reva jcamins: oh, we will one day. But I am doing one record for practice. So using the GUI can I take the default and hit the button saying "Apply different matching rule"?
18:27 bankhead left #koha
18:28 chobbs owen, cait: That does allow me to address my original issue, which was how to modify the Renewals allowed in circ and fine rules. Apparently that's not manageable in en_NZ?
18:28 jcamins reva: yes.
18:28 chobbs That column is appearing now.
18:29 cait chobbs: when you update you need to redo the templates
18:29 chobbs oh?
18:29 cait depending on how you update and such things... with git you always have to
18:29 cait so if something is working in en and not in another language - recreate your templates
18:29 chobbs cait: don't think that was covered in INSTALL.ubuntu...
18:29 reva jcamins: say I have a dozen records, I have saved from different sources in MARC Unicode/UTF-8 (all having .cgi extension). How actually would I use theulkmarcimport.pl?
18:29 chobbs cait:  is there a script for rebuildingthose?
18:29 owen chobbs: Did you install using git?
18:30 chobbs owen:  no, downloaded latest beta tgz
18:30 jcamins reva: I don't think you can import from multiple files at once.
18:30 * owen doesn't know what languages are included in the beta tarball
18:31 chobbs owen:  I actually thought it was just 'en', which would certainly explain why the en_NZ template doesn't have the updated circ and fine template
18:32 cait chobbs: which type of installation do you have?
18:32 chobbs tempted to just cp en to en_NZ and leave things the way they were :-)
18:32 reva No, I mean appending all the marc records with the appropriate seperations in a single file; is that possible then?
18:32 cait dev or standard?
18:33 cait reva: one single file is correct, bulkmarcimport is for a lot of records, like 20000
18:33 chobbs cait: assume I got the standard (was a relatively modest sized tgz)
18:33 cait you can use translate in /misc/translator
18:34 cait but it will not translate your sys pref file

20:02 reva jcamins: I am back; the Manage import works fine.:) But I notice that there is no save as MARC Unicode/UTF-8 choice in the bib records in the online catalogs of libraries that participate in OCLC. So I am forced to cutting and pasting, I think, when I am in the non z39.50 environment.

20:06 jcamins reva: if you can save as MARC-8, that will work fine, too.
20:06 jcamins And, yes, that is essentially when you will need bulkmarcimport. When you have a huge number of records to import. You might use it if you want to take all the records off your server and load them into a different server.
