09:50 fredericd ricardo: 256MB, it's very short. Apache is known to be RAM hungry... You can try a light weight web server like lighthttp, but be prepared to spend time on its config...
09:52 ricardo fredericd: Yeah... I have some Apache settings for other machine, that I may try to use.
09:55 ricardo All swap used... Yep, I will have to increase RAM for this, even for debugging it... Doing it now

14:18 jwagner wizzyrea, online?
14:26 wizzyrea heya jwagner
14:26 wizzyrea sup
14:26 wizzyrea ?
14:28 jwagner Question for you and everyone else, with regard to my problem of yesterday.  What would be the implications of allowing Koha to place holds on titles (e.g., on-order) that do not have items attached?  Anything in the code or database that would make this A Bad Idea?
14:28 owen My objections would be practical ones for patron interactions.
14:30 jwagner Meaning that they might be confused about whether items would be forthcoming?  I thought about that -- we have sites that catalog online resources, for example, that will never get items attached and shouldn't get holds.
14:31 jwagner (and wizzyrea, thanks for the help yesterday!)
14:31 owen Right, that's the specific case I'm thinking of as well: cataloged online resources (entries for web sites)
14:31 owen I would also worry about bibliographic records which had accidentally been left behind after all items were deleted
14:32 jwagner I can't think of any way to flag _title_ records as to whether they can get holds or not, so the idea may be a nonstarter.  But I wanted to investigate further.
14:34 kf jwagner: for which cases is it necessary to place holds on titles without items?
14:34 magnusenger left #koha
14:35 kf ah sorry, acquisition
14:36 jwagner It's a particular library's existing workflow -- the old system allowed them to create on-order title records with no items, and to have holds placed.  Trying to migrate that data into Koha created lots of hiccups because Koha doesn't like title-no-item holds.  I've told them they'll probably need to adjust their workflow to create a dummy item, but since I also come from a system that allowed such holds, I wanted to investigate the possibilities in Koha
14:36 owen I could use advice on this error: "[warn] zebra_lock_create fail fname=/home/oleonard/koha-dev/var/lock/zebradb/biblios/norm..LCK [Permission denied]"
14:37 owen ...after running rebuild_zebra.pl -b -w
14:37 brendan owen check the permissions on those directories
14:37 brendan cd /home/oleonard/koha-dev/var/lock/zebradb/
14:38 brendan then you'll need to learn about chown
14:38 Colin owen: ls -l the norm.LCK file is it the wrong ownership forthe user running zebrasrv or the script
14:38 kf jwagner: I think another workflow is to add items when ordering items which will be possible with new acquisition as I understand it
14:38 brendan so you'll probaly want to do something like --- chown -R owen:owen /home/oleonard/koha-dev/var/lock/zebradb/
14:38 brendan or whatever the correct sequence is
14:39 kf adding items in acquisiton when placing the order... ... its friday
14:39 jwagner kf, yes, thank The Great Pumpkin for Fridays!
14:40 Colin A lot of libraries don't like to create items before receipt but do want holds on forthcoming bestseller
14:40 * owen agrees with Colin
14:41 owen ...but how to distinguish between those on-order titles and other titles with no holdings?
14:41 kf so you will need to flag them as on order
14:41 jwagner Colin, yes, that's the situation.  I liked wizzyrea's workflow -- creating a dummy item that's marked explicitly as not for loan at the item level.  If I understand it, that would prevent holds from being placed _on the dummy item_ but would allow a title level hold.
14:42 hdl_laptop jwagner: nahuel has worked on reserves at biblio level
14:42 jwagner Anything relevant to this situation?
14:43 hdl_laptop mmm. It is not because it is notforloan that you should not be able to reserve a book for reference
14:43 wizzyrea it would be cool if there was a true "item quick add" that let you, say, check a box to say, this title is on order, create a not for loan item so that holds may be placed on the bib
14:44 kf ok, I think im to confused today to think about workflows - will start my weekend now :) bye #koha and have a nice weekend
14:44 wizzyrea bye kf
14:44 wizzyrea have a good weekend :)
14:44 jwagner bye, kf!
14:44 kf left #koha
14:45 wizzyrea because, at least in our workflow, there are 4 fields, always the same, that must be set for an on order item
14:45 wizzyrea and there's nothing unique about the item. Home branch would be the logged in branch.
14:46 Colin you want the system to also remove the dummy item when the real copies arrive
14:46 wizzyrea right, or you can edit the item to make it an official item
14:46 wizzyrea about the same amount of work
14:46 jwagner wizzyrea, I wonder if there's anything in, say, one of the 942 subfields that could be used in this manner?  For example, one of the 942 subfields is used now as a flag for suppressing display.  If there is something unused, maybe it could work like that -- set a flag in the 942 if title-level holds are allowed.
14:46 wizzyrea add a barcode, change itypes
14:47 wizzyrea dk, as pianohacker would say, holds/reserves are a giant headache in the code
14:47 wizzyrea :(
14:47 jwagner pianohacker is much too refined in his statements.  I'd put it a bit more forcefully myself.  But this is A Family Show, right?
14:48 wizzyrea haha
14:48 wizzyrea so they were resistant to the whole "add an item" workflow?
14:48 wizzyrea not saying it's the best way (tm) just that it's a way that works (tm)
14:49 jwagner They weren't necessarily resistant, it just came as a bit of a surprise to them.
14:50 wizzyrea (as an aside, I'm always kind of skeptical of doing something simply for the sake of preserving historical workflow, so take my statements with a grain of salt)

15:20 brendan it should say where it's looking for the zebrasrv
15:21 brendan I mean looking at -- as in --    vim koha-zebra-ctl.sh
15:21 * wizzyrea is ashamed to be a nano fan
15:21 * owen appreciates that the install guide suggests nano
15:22 brendan Oh yeah -- owen
15:22 brendan make sure to use the koha-dev one -- not the kohaclone one
15:22 owen Yeah
15:22 brendan ok so when you vim -- that file
15:23 brendan you should see something near to the top like this
15:23 brendan ZEBRASRV=/usr/bin/zebrasrv
15:23 brendan what does yours say?
15:23 owen The same
15:24 brendan ok -- that should be good then
15:25 brendan ps -aef | grep zebrasrv
15:25 brendan return much ?
15:25 owen Nope: oleonard  7586  3908  0 11:24 pts/0    00:00:00 grep zebrasrv
15:26 brendan so zebrasrv -- is not running
15:26 brendan can you do a locate zebrasrv
15:27 brendan or - whereis zebrasrv
15:27 owen /etc/alternatives/zebrasrv and /usr/bin/zebrasrv
15:27 owen Looks like /usr/bin/zebrasrv is actually pointing to /etc/alternatives/zebrasrv
15:28 brendan hmm...
15:28 brendan ok on the koha-zebra-ctl.sh file
15:29 brendan in that top section -- does the user, group, dbname -- all match your information
15:29 brendan and the ZEBRASRV=/usr/bin/zebrasrv
15:30 brendan (we could try and change that to /etc/alternatives/zebrasrv )  -- quickly and start zebra (if that doesn't do the trick) put it back in
15:33 chris_n owen: sudo ps -ef | grep zebra
15:33 chris_n opps
15:33 * chris_n should read before he leaps :-\
15:34 chris_n zebra is always a pain to get running; the installer needs to be fixed to set the permissions correctly iirc
15:35 brendan true that
15:36 brendan when I first began with zebrasrv (I had such troubles) I just ran it on screen
15:38 chris_n owen: your koha user needs to own everything from /home/oleonard/koha-dev and below
15:38 chris_n so maybe something like 'sudo chown -R koha:koha /home/oleonard/koha-dev'
15:39 * chris_n says nice things to his zebra so it will keep running
15:41 owen Doing so doesn't change the outcome of " ./koha-zebra-ctl.sh start"
15:43 brendan ok good luck owen
15:43 brendan I'm off for the day -- going to see the dodgers
15:43 brendan bye #koha
15:43 owen Thanks brendan
15:44 gmcharlt joined #koha
15:44 Colin if you run the zebrasrv command in koha-zerbra-ctl.sh on the commandline with -l filename you may get some info in filename
15:46 chris_n owen: 'su koha' and then start it
15:48 chris_n if it is assigned to the correct run level, I think it should start on a reboot ok
15:58 * wizzyrea is glad to read this discussion of zebra starting woes... she feels less dumb now

16:11 owen Hmmm... "sudo ps -ef | grep zebra" is showing more promising results, but I'm not getting anything when searching
16:13 wizzyrea did you build the indexes?
16:13 wizzyrea (i'm assuming you did)
16:16 owen ./rebuild_zebra.pl -b -w
16:19 wizzyrea i believe that's the one
16:20 wizzyrea (this is definitely the trickiest part of the koha install experience, I think)
16:21 nahuel left #koha
16:42 owen Hmmm... chris_n looks like you were right. After a restart Zebra is running
16:45 owen Returning results that is. Only now 30 seconds later it isn't.
16:46 wizzyrea WIN! ... FAIL!
16:49 owen Hm, wait, it seems keyword searching is working, itemtype searching isn't
16:50 owen No, never mind, that's a data problem not a Zebra problem.
16:51 owen So, WIN FOR ALL INTENTS AND PURPOSES! Which isn't very catchy.
