00:51 eythian oh yeah, Monday is quiet-channel day. I always forget that.

03:11 dcook Translation...bleargh
03:12 dcook If only I could read Arabic
03:13 dcook Looks like the Arabic PO files are bad for 3.14 and master...
03:25 eythian rangi: sort by pubdate works now, and I fixed the sort_by URL issue (turned out I was setting it when I didn't need to be.)
03:25 rangi ahh nice
03:28 eythian you'll probably want to git pull, I restructured your stuff to handle creating the ES index mappings from the DB too.
03:29 * eythian starts to glare at facets now
03:29 rangi sweet
03:37 rangi dcook: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cv568AzZ-i8
03:38 rangi you can get a bit of a tour of wellington :)
03:44 * dcook will take a look in a minute :)
03:47 * eythian adds $res->{facets} = { author => { terms => { field => "author.phrase" } } }; in the query builder. Facets now are returned.
03:47 rangi whoa, thats pretty sweet
03:49 dcook hehe. Rather dark tour of wellington, rangi :p
03:49 dcook Facets! \o/
03:52 eythian http://youtu.be/T5FB_trsXaQ <-- dcook, this one will cancel it out then
03:52 eythian (it's more serious in a way, but kinda neat too.)
03:54 rangi oh that is cool
03:57 dcook Very cool :)
04:03 eythian rangi: we'll probably need to add all the 952 stuff to that mapping eventually, especially homebranch and such, so we can facet/search on that.
04:03 rangi yep, so far it only has local-classification
04:04 rangi 995 for unimarc

04:04 rangi heh
04:32 mtj_ hey rangi, eythian
04:33 eythian hi mtj_
04:33 mtj_ the ES work thats happening from catalyst is pretty exciting
04:34 mtj_ ive been looking out for it in the #koha scrollback :)
04:35 eythian :)
04:39 mtj_ is the ES hardware spec similar to SOLR?... or a bit more?
04:39 mtj_ just curious
04:39 eythian more but different
04:40 eythian i.e. designed to be a cluster, so you want multiple hosts
04:40 eythian if you ignore that requirement, around about the same.
04:59 mtj_ gotcha :)
05:04 dcook Internet Explorer 8 (and your whole line really), why do you suck so hard?

05:07 dcook hehe
05:17 cait you could reset the translation maybe - for testing. where it's not obvioushow to fix
05:17 cait killing the wrng translation or moving it into a comment
05:17 paxed hm. shouldn't the patron search input box have autocomplete=off?
05:18 dcook paxed: I think that's system preference based?
05:18 paxed oh?
05:18 eythian no, I think that's a different thing
05:18 eythian I assume paxed is talking about browser autocomplete
05:18 dcook eythian: Ah, yeah, good one
05:18 paxed eythian: right
05:18 dcook My bad
05:18 eythian not the magic dropdown search thing.
05:19 dcook cait: Good idea. I might have to give that a shot.
05:19 * dcook is more unhappy with IE 8 not handling DataTables in the quote editor though at the moment :p
05:20 paxed in a test environment you usually search for the same patron repeatedly. in production system, not so much. so setting autocomplete=off would be good, so the browser doesn't save it.

08:42 eythian There's some data issues still to deal with (probably reducing the fields that are considered for faceting) and doing something about the capitalisation, but it's a start.

08:43 fridolin1 hie all
08:43 eythian ashimema: if you've ever seen the zebra related stuff for facets, compare this, which is what I had to do for ES:
08:43 eythian $res->{facets} = {
08:43 eythian au      => { terms => { field => "author.phrase" } },
08:43 eythian "su-to" => { terms => { field => "subject.phrase" } },
08:43 eythian };
08:43 eythian that was it (and then convert the ES format to what Koha expected)
08:43 ashimema wow..
08:45 ashimema that appears to be much simpler.. though I'm not realyl well aqauinted with the current zebra code.. jsut that it's a nasty mess
08:45 eythian well, the zebra facets are all done with Koha perl code anyway, not zebra itself.
08:45 ashimema Really looking forward to the ES stuff now.
08:46 ashimema Yeah, we did work out how to do facets in zebra at kohacon I think.. but it never went much further.
08:46 ashimema shame realy.
08:46 cait eythian++
08:46 eythian yeah, it was slowish going getting the foundations in place, but it probably took me a total of 1 or 2 hours to a) figure out how to do it with es and b) actually do it.
08:46 ashimema I still don't think zebra is that bad.. we're just chronically misusing it.
08:46 magnuse yeah, it would be cool if someone could do proper zebra facets in koha
08:46 eythian Much quicker now that the base is built.
08:46 eythian definitely
08:46 magnuse eythian++
08:46 ashimema cool..
08:47 cait yeah, fixing zebra would also be nice
08:47 eythian though, there are other nice things about ES that we probably won't get out of zebra, e.g. 100% online reindexing. i.e. no search downtime while the indexes are being merged.
08:47 cait slightly worried about requirements for ES - but also very excited :)
08:48 eythian cait: well, I'm being careful to build it so that zebra will still work, all you have to do is change the relevant system preference.
08:48 cait eythian: shoudl't you do the tree thing?
08:48 eythian I've shimmed the zebra calls so they can behave the same as what I'm doing for ES.
08:48 eythian tree thing?
08:48 cait you always say that
08:48 eythian what do you mean?
08:48 cait make like a tree and get out of here? or something like that?
08:49 eythian oh right :)
08:49 cait ES too exciting? :)
08:49 ashimema :)
08:49 eythian nah, I just had training, and came back after to make that work because I knew I was really close to getting it.
08:49 cait heh
08:49 * ashimema saw where cait was going there..
08:49 eythian (came back anyway to drop my bike off.)
08:50 eythian I wonder where the numbers are coming from on the subjects...
08:50 eythian might just be bad data.
08:50 cait or $9
08:50 eythian actually, that's quite possible
08:50 eythian 9 (RLIN) 1576
08:50 cait hm i forgot who it was... wajasu?
08:51 eythian that's exactly it
08:51 cait working on zebra facetting, saw something similar on his screenshots
08:51 cait i thin it shows all subfields indexed in the author phrase maybe?
08:51 ashimema eythian, is ES relatively simple to get up and running.. wondering wether it's at a stage where I could clone the repo and play with it ;)
08:51 magnuse cait++ for remembering
08:51 cait and we really need capitalization :P
08:52 eythian cait: yeah, we can specify a subfield, or the whole tag. What I'll have to try to do is make it be smart and join them with -- or something.
08:52 cait eythian: while you are on it... could you make it use $9 for the actual link when ther is one?
08:52 eythian hmm
08:52 eythian maybe
08:52 cait flaw i the current facetting - but it never hurts to ask :)
08:53 cait not sure you need --
08:53 eythian the capitalisation thing is something I know how to fix, I just need to create a new subfield that is the literal field, rather than the analysed version.
08:53 magnuse eythian: where does the code live? a branch in the catalyst koha repo?
08:53 cait if you look at the current configs you can see we often have mutliple fields but no separator because they are supposed to be catalogued
08:53 cait maybe only for some fields you'll need it
08:53 cait maybe for the topical subjects,i know nothing about loc headings
08:53 eythian magnuse: yep, I'll find the link in a moment
08:54 eythian cait: at the moment everything is just a naive string, eventually we'll make it smarter and able to understand things that shouldn't be just plain strings, like subjects.
08:54 eythian and dates
08:55 cait eythian: i was only talking display :) the separator betweeen subfields is in the current configuration
08:55 cait so you shoudl be able to look up there which subfields and how to separate them
08:55 eythian oh, yeah.
08:55 eythian it's not hard to know how, I just don't know how to tell it to store them like that yet.
08:55 magnuse it would be cool if OPL used the same "index names" (not sure if that is what they are called in ES) for their linked data - then koha could maybe just use the indexed RDF data straight out of the box, and not care if it comes from rdf or marc
08:55 cait maybe we will need a display form and an index form?
08:56 cait i guess the all lowercase is because of that too
08:56 eythian cait: that's totally how it's working at the moment, I just don't have all the forms in there yet.
08:56 eythian http://git.catalyst.net.nz/gw?[…]ds/elastic_search <-- magnuse
08:56 cait you'll get there
08:56 cait or I will fail qa :P
08:56 cait just joking :)
08:57 eythian magnuse: if you check it out, you'll have to add the elasticsearch_mapping table (from kohastructure) and the default mappings, which aren't complete yet, but are enough for us to do useful things.
08:57 magnuse eythian: thanks, sweet as!
08:57 eythian cait: :)
08:57 eythian cait: well, it's reached the point where each successive thing is easier, in general.
08:57 eythian though there are parts of ES I don't quite know how to drive yet, but I'm learning them.
08:59 ashimema excellent progress eythian.. I've been watching the repo with baited breath.
09:01 eythian 21485 records indexed.
09:01 eythian real1m26.978s
09:01 eythian user0m50.172s
09:02 eythian I also like that it's pretty quick on my crappy vm with a remote ES server.
09:02 magnuse eythian++ for remembering normarc :-)
09:02 eythian actually, that was rangi, not me :)
09:02 ashimema what sort of spec are you running the remote ES server on?
09:02 eythian I saw it in the mapping he built, so accounted for it.
09:03 magnuse rangi++ then :-)
09:03 eythian ashimema: 2 CPU, 2GB RAM, and it doesn't really break a sweat at all.
09:03 eythian for real high-end production you'd want a cluster of 3+ servers.
09:03 ashimema that's reassuring.. I was worried that an ES server would take some major grunt.
09:04 eythian http://i.imgur.com/F4Cpxgk.png <-- cait, happier now? :)
09:04 ashimema would you run one (or rather 'one cluster') for multiple koha instances?
09:04 eythian yeah, definitely
09:04 cait i think you cheated ;)
09:05 magnuse eythian: in the swcreenshot with the facets, i assume the result list is still created by running marcxml throguh the usual xslt? where does the marcxml come from? es?
09:05 cait yep you did
09:05 cait 245$c is ugly
09:05 eythian how did I cheat?
09:05 eythian oh, I know. It's just we're throwing everything author related into the 'author' field at the moment.
09:05 eythian In the future we're going to say "this can be considered for faceting, this can't"
09:05 eythian and so ignore the messy fields.
09:05 cait ok :)
09:06 eythian magnuse: one moment, I'll find a result record for you
09:06 cait yes, than it's better, also i never understood why someone would catalog in capitals
09:06 cait but i guess i can't blame you for that
09:06 magnuse BECAUSE IT'S FUN!
09:06 cait SCREAMING SUBJECTS!
09:06 magnuse it's a format called MARCSHOUT!
09:06 nlegrand HELLO #KOHA o/
09:06 cait lol
09:06 pastebot "eythian" at 127.0.0.1 pasted "what a record coming back from ES looks like" (15 lines) at http://paste.koha-community.org/4
09:07 cait hi nlegrand :)
09:07 eythian magnuse: that's an old version, from when I only had "title" and "biblionumber"
09:07 eythian but, I'm taking "record" and converting it into a MARC::Record
09:07 magnuse ah hah?
09:08 magnuse that looks catmandu'ish?
09:08 eythian it is exactly catmandu
09:08 eythian because I'm using that :)
09:08 magnuse how is the MARC::Record transformed to the result list then?
09:08 magnuse catmandu++
09:09 eythian because that's how it works. In a zebra result you get marcxml back, and that becomes a MARC::Record (and then probably that's turned back into marcxml for the XSLT.)
09:09 eythian I just make the MARC::Record and let the existing system take care of getting it into the form for xslt.
09:09 atheia joined #koha
09:09 eythian (i.e. I've totally ignored that and it works.)
09:10 eythian magnuse: oh, you will probably have trouble running it unless you have all the dependencies from cpan and quite up to date.
09:10 eythian I've been making packages of everything as I go, but they're not currently public anywhere.
09:11 eythian (just due to laziness.)
09:12 eythian http://www.kallisti.net.nz/~ro[…]mandu-deps.tar.gz <-- magnuse, there they go
09:12 eythian now they're public somewhere
09:13 jenkins_koha Project Koha_3.14.x build #38: STILL UNSTABLE in 1 hr 41 min: http://jenkins.koha-community.[…]b/Koha_3.14.x/38/

09:13 huginn Bug http://bugs.koha-community.org[…]_bug.cgi?id=11687 normal, P5 - low, ---, jonathan.druart, Pushed to Stable , statecollection.pl is unused
09:15 magnuse eythian: i'll probably not get around to playing with it anytime soon. i just want to look at the possibility of koha using the es-indexed RDF from opl
09:16 eythian hmm.
09:16 magnuse "marcxml from zebra -> MARC::Record -> marcxml for display -> xslt" - that sounds like a lot of wasted cpu cycles...
09:16 eythian Koha still expects to see marc
09:16 magnuse yeah, that is a problem
09:17 magnuse but opl will be transforming rdf to marc, so koha has something to chew on + for z39.50/SRU/OAI
09:17 eythian however, there's probably no reason we couldn't have an RDF specific XSLT, so long as you can produce XML from whatever you get, it'll probably work.
09:17 magnuse so perhaps it could be done
09:17 magnuse ah, true
09:17 eythian I would guess it would require very minimal changes.
09:18 eythian i.e. just telling Koha how to get XML out of whatever object it ends up with.
09:18 eythian Oh, I lie. It actually gets USMARC from zebra
09:18 eythian at least in my dev setup, which is quite an old config
09:18 magnuse opl will be building their own public facing interfaces, so if people want to use their rdf magic they might also want to use that
09:19 magnuse ah, good old iso2709, will we ever be able to put you to eternal sleep?
09:19 eythian in that case, I think it would be quite possible.
09:19 eythian Probably with minimal work (not including building the interfaces.)
09:20 * eythian really doesn't like how the facet truncation for display is done in C4::Search::getRecords. I'm thinking of changing that so it's pushed all the way out to the template.
09:22 eythian http://git.catalyst.net.nz/gw?[…]545399f7d421bfab9 <-- cait, that was all the work it took to fix the case on facets :)
09:22 ashimema I'de vote in favour of pushing that out to the template too
09:23 magnuse yeah, that sounds reasonable
09:23 eythian it makes the most sense, it being display logic.
09:23 cait :)
09:23 cait eythian: i think we fixed that - xml everywhere
09:23 cait tcohen would know
09:23 * cait has a hard time readng back fast enough
09:24 eythian it's quite possible, but I'm not totally sure
09:24 cait and for the truncation... please stop it cutting umlauts in half
09:25 eythian http://git.catalyst.net.nz/gw?[…]015405420b3dc37be <-- this is what I had to change in C4::Search, it's assuming that it's getting USMARC
09:25 eythian (that is, I'm not giving it USMARC, I'm giving it a MARC::Record, so I had to account for that.)
09:25 eythian cait: wow, it does that?
09:25 cait eythian: at least in 3.12 it does, not sure if soemone fixed it
09:26 eythian I think it'd be harder to make it not UTF-8 aware than to make it break it.
09:26 cait like when the umlaut would be the last displayed character... not quite
09:26 eythian I guess it just needs to be told the strings are UTF8 somewhere.
09:26 magnuse eythian: will you make it configurable, e.g. an easy way to say which indexes should be used to create facets?
09:26 eythian yeah, I can imagine how it could do that.
09:26 eythian magnuse: well, the template relies on knowing what to expect.
09:27 eythian so it won't be trivial to do that.
09:27 eythian (i.e. the template expects one of a handful of facet types.)
09:27 eythian this is also important for translation
09:27 magnuse true
09:27 eythian but, we probably will make it configurable to say "consider these fields as author fields for facets, and these fields as author fields for search."
09:28 eythian the latter is already done
09:28 magnuse http://template-toolkit.org/do[…]cate_length_dots_
09:28 eythian that's exactly what I want.
09:31 eythian any more queries before I make like a bald man and get outta hair? ;)
09:32 cait lol
09:32 cait can you make it show kittens?
09:32 magnuse ooh, yes please!
09:32 eythian No.
09:32 eythian No kittens.
09:32 cait when someone enters sad search terms?
09:32 eythian haha
09:32 cait so why are we stiching to ES, it gives us nothing over zebra!
09:32 cait switching even ... ;)
09:33 magnuse use a kitten unicode symbol as bullet points for the facets
09:33 magnuse stitching to ES
09:34 cait eythian: I guess you can do your bald man thing now
09:34 eythian btw I'm fairly keen for people to test this out, right now it's in a working state (that's not always the case :)
09:35 eythian so if you have a go and get stuck, let me know. It _should_ be well documented, but there might be something missing.
09:35 eythian oh, it does need unit tests, but apis are evolving a bit still.
09:36 * magnuse thinks eythian deserves some rest now
09:37 eythian oh, my rebuild_elasticsearch.pl is 129 lines long, of which about 40% is documentation. Compare that to rebuild_zebra ;)
09:37 eythian yep, time to head off.
09:37 eythian later
09:41 nlegrand I had a weird bug lately on my 3.2, whenever I save the biblio records, some open field in the items are over encoded, eg 'Dépôt' becomes 'Dépôt légal' and the more you save, the weirder it gets, until you edit the items, it displays anything fine, save it, and it's fixed
09:41 nlegrand is it a known old bug? :)
09:42 nlegrand otherwise it may be our super customised koha ^^
09:42 eythian that's a known thing all over the internet
09:42 eythian double-encoded UTF8
09:42 eythian it's probably fixed in post3.2 versions
09:44 nlegrand eythian: sure, but my version is funnier, cause if I save my biblio records twenty time in a row, each non ascii char has been replaced by 1048576 creepy character :) it's squared-encoded UTF8 ^^
09:44 cait nlegrand: i thik that got fixed
09:44 cait nlegrand: 3.2 is really old by now :(
09:44 nlegrand nice :)
09:44 nlegrand cait: yes :)
09:45 cait nlegrand: i think i remember seeing something likethat with diacritics in callnumbers and notes
09:45 nlegrand cait: my goal is to be very near community version as soon as possible and stay there :)
09:45 magnuse nlegrand: good plan :-)
09:45 ashimema why such an old version nlegrand?
09:45 nlegrand I mean staying near last versions which is moving twice a year ^^

10:12 khall ashimema: I bet this will fix the issue: http://bugs.koha-community.org[…]_bug.cgi?id=12243
10:12 huginn Bug 12243: critical, P5 - low, ---, gmcharlt, Passed QA , Records with invalid ISBNs can cause searches to fail
10:13 khall it seems that an isbn not being "bad" isn't a good enough check, there are other types of badness that can cause issues. Whoever wrote businesss::isbn made some off decisions about that
10:14 ashimema I see.. thanks khall

10:23 wahanui the problem is it's human beings doing it. Rebuild your indexes.

11:28 Viktor Greetings!
11:29 gaetan_B bye!
11:29 Viktor How do people feel about hiding great content like "Title notices" and "Comments" in tabs in the Opac? Could the tabs be removed and the full content displayed at once?
11:31 vfernandes if anyone could help me in this question :)
11:31 jcamins Viktor: FWIW, I have a client that has the title notes visible directly rather than in a tab.
11:32 vfernandes Viktor maybe you can use javascript and jquery to remove those tabs
11:33 Viktor I could change them to regular divs i guess, but they are nested as a list so I would have to think for several minutes before touching those :)
11:34 Viktor I just wonder if people love them or if they are just left from old times when people didn't scroll
11:34 Viktor Today when people scroll tabs inside pages just increases the interaction cost.

11:42 Viktor Thanks!
11:44 Viktor And while we're on the subject of opacuserjs - does TinyCMS still work with the new Bootstrap theme?
11:44 Viktor I did the following tabs based on Owens code on his blog http://hylte.demo.bibkat.no
11:45 Viktor (Not all there but lets you display tabs without losing the header with login and stuff)
11:45 Viktor I did it using opacuserjs, but TinyCMS looked like a bit cleaner way of doing this(?)

22:33 pianohacker eythian: Is it safe, at least, to call plain 'exit' from within a Plackified script?
22:34 eythian oh, that psgi:exit thing in C4::Auth is just a string
22:34 eythian I'm not aware if it does any magic (it might)
22:34 eythian pianohacker: it seems to be, yes
22:34 pianohacker eythian: I couldn't find any reference to it in any of the Plack libraries, so I don't think so *shrug*

22:35 eythian (calling exit, that is.)
22:37 pianohacker eythian: Ah, it does some similar magic which seems to assume that 'die' is safe (see after 'sub new ...' in http://cpansearch.perl.org/src[…]b/CGI/Compile.pm)
22:41 eythian hmm OK.
22:42 pianohacker jcamins: Could I ask you an idle question about t/www/batch.t? I'm working on some webservice tests for my field session project, and I was curious why t/www/batch.t used KOHA_INTRANET_URL rather that staffClientBaseURL.
