00:05 pianohacker oh, right
00:05 pianohacker thanks
00:07 eythian pianohacker: rangi won't be around much today, I expect. He's up north telling people they want Koha.
00:07 pianohacker eythian: ok, thanks
00:08 pianohacker In that case, does anyone know what the procedure is for a patch that fails signoff or qa? Resubmit, or an additional patch?

01:10 steven hi anyone there?
01:11 steven i'm using koha 3.2.0...but i would like to upgrade to the latest 3.4.1, can anyone guide me on how to upgrade it?
01:13 slef steven: have you seen the UPGRADE section of the INSTALL file in the download?
01:14 slef pianohacker: I tweaked your bug 6492 patch a little during signoff and fluffed the description layout a bit. Hope you don't mind.
01:14 huginn Bug[…]w_bug.cgi?id=6492 critical, PATCH-Sent, ---, pianohacker, ASSIGNED , Deleted biblios cause rebuild_zebra to fail
01:14 steven slef: how can I access the INSTALL file?
01:16 mtj sorry, got distracted..
01:16 slef steven: when you unpack the koha 3.4.1 download, there will be a choice of INSTALL files in it.
01:17 mtj steven: or look in the Koha git repo
01:17 mtj[…]oha.git;a=summary
01:17 slef[…]693300df8fa9fb0f6 is 3.4.1
01:17 mtj[…]p=koha.git;a=tree

01:18 slef 3.4.1 is[…]693300df8fa9fb0f6 rather
01:18 slef 3.4.1?
01:18 wahanui 3.4.1 is[…]693300df8fa9fb0f6 rather
01:18 slef :)
01:18 mtj ah, even better :)
01:19 steven so i dont need to backup mySQL database during upgrading?
01:19 slef steven: it would be a good idea to do so.
01:19 slef steven: you should be backing it up regularly anyway IMO.
01:20 mtj slef: could i pick your brain about my 3m-SC problem?
01:20 mtj steven: you deserve a slap for that :)
01:20 slef mtj: my brain is asleep :-(  I don't remember seeing that error.  Seems like the sort of thing that would be on the web.
01:21 mtj its a more subtle problem that that
01:21 druthb left #koha
01:21 steven ya...i do backup for the whole system....
01:21 slef hmm, "BAD SEQUENCE" is not a search-engine friendly term
01:22 slef steven: it's worth taking a backup before you upgrade, to give an easier escape route if things go wrong.
01:24 steven so in term of variable and database structure using between 3.2.0 and there any changes?
01:24 mtj im hoping my 3m problem turns out to be a hardware clock bug :/
01:25 mtj the 3m was 50 seconds fast, with a busted ntpd
01:26 mtj steven: yep
01:26 steven so how is the command for upgrading?
01:27 mtj ive only used git , so far
01:27 mtj but i recommend the deb packages
01:28 steven i just downloaded the tar.gz version
01:29 steven previously i m using koha live cd to complete the i am not so familiar with the command in ubuntu platform
01:30 mtj
01:31 mtj ah, i dont think the deb packages have been built for 3.4
01:32 mtj so... i recommend git
01:32 steven bcoz i m using ubuntu....
01:32 eythian there are no packages for 3.4 yet, but they will hopefully be coming with the nest release, there were issues that had to be fixed.
01:32 steven and i m new to the platform i dont have much acknowledge
01:33 steven then can i update to 3.2.9?
01:33 steven *knowledge
01:33 mtj use debian if you are serious about a production Koha install
01:33 mtj most Koha dev and prod boxes are debian
01:34 steven how can i convert to debian platform?
01:34 steven u mean i have to re-install the whole system?

08:37 imageologist i'm looking for Koha for Windows
08:37 imageologist is there any release for windows XP?
08:37 magnuse ah, that's a tough one
08:37 magnuse nope
08:37 magnuse i think maybe you can get 2.2.9 to work, but that is really old now
08:38 imageologist so its purly based on linux
08:38 magnuse do you just want to test koha?
08:38 slef Windows?
08:38 wahanui Windows is only version 7
08:38 magnuse or are you looking to run it on windows in production?
08:38 slef wahanui: forget Windows
08:38 wahanui slef: I forgot windows
08:38 imageologist yeah i found it on[…]indows.html#d0e64
08:39 magnuse the problem is that some of the perl modules koha needs are not easily available for windows at the moment
08:39 imageologist but really its too old... and nothing found any good support regarding 2.2.9 release
08:39 slef Windows is a poor fit for free software like Koha. Some of the thing's we use heavily are not easily available at the moment. No-one's funded Koha 3.x for Windows and I'm not sure who'd be willing to work on it. You are probably best off using a liveCD for testing, then commissioning a GNU/Linux server.
08:40 magnuse but i have heard rumors that will fix this, but i'm not sure when and how
08:40 slef damn, ytpo, never mind
08:40 slef imageologist: any reason not to use GNU/Linux for it?
08:40 magnuse running linux w/koha in a virtual machine is also an option
08:41 slef yeah, server, virtual server, all is good
08:41 imageologist yeah currently i'm testing this VM
08:41 imageologist on Linux
08:42 magnuse there are some notes on koha and strawberry here:[…]ki/StrawberryPerl but that page has not been updated for a year...
08:43 magnuse imageologist: you have a vm running linux on your windows machine?
08:43 imageologist yes
08:43 magnuse cool
08:43 magnuse that is probably the easiest option
08:44 imageologist yeah... i'm not very much cognizant on Linux
08:45 imageologist i just got a project for a local public library...
08:45 imageologist so that's why... i'm reviewing on koha
08:45 magnuse cool

08:46 magnuse makes me curious as to whereabouts in the world the library is located... ;-)

18:08 sekjal library_systems_guy: I'm not sure that that system preference is working properly...

22:34 rangi yep, that should be ok

22:34 rangi ahhh interesting
22:34 rangi on debian?
22:34 talljoy i run zebrasrv -f /etc/koha/koha-conf.xml to run manually

22:35 rangi what user do you run that as?
22:35 talljoy root
22:35 rangi ah ha!
22:35 rangi so its a permissions thing
22:35 talljoy i thought root ruled them all?
22:35 rangi if you look at the /etc/init.d/koha-zebra-daemon script

22:36 rangi you will see its running as not root (probably as koha)
22:36 rangi should be a USER= bit

23:11 talljoy the rebuild ran this time
23:11 rangi yay
23:11 talljoy I've got some work to do tomorrow.  For now, I'm going to kick back and have a beer.
23:11 talljoy rangi++
23:11 rangi enjoy the beer ;)

23:12 talljoy is now known as talljoy_away
23:13 magnuse hehe, such fun ;-)
23:17 magnuse rangi or eythian: i created my first package with build-git-snapshot and installed with sudo dpkg -i koha-common_3.4-1~git+20110522163502.cdf32da0_all.deb; sudo apt-get -f install. now i created an updated version of the package, do i upgrade with the same commands, or is there some other mojo?
23:17 rangi thats it
23:18 rangi you shouldnt ned the -f install though
23:18 rangi just the dpkg -i
23:18 * eythian deletes what he typed
23:18 rangi next step would be to build your own repo
23:18 eythian what rangi said
23:18 rangi and put the package in there
23:18 rangi then just apt-get update; apt-get upgrade
23:18 magnuse yeah, the thought has passed my mind, but i'll try to get the packages working first...
23:18 rangi (when you get a few sites running that becomes very very useful)
23:19 rangi *nod*
23:19 magnuse but just dpkg -i to upgrade, no apt-get?
23:19 rangi yep
23:19 magnuse cool, thanks!
23:19 rangi unless it grizzles about unmet dependencies
23:20 rangi (unlikely)
23:20 magnuse shouldn't do that, i think
23:21 magnuse hm, it does complain about a missing package called xmlstarlet
23:22 rangi ah yeah, ull want that :)
23:29 magnuse hm, that helped, but i'm running into trouble because i have a half-removed instance left over from my koha-remove trouble. i get:
23:29 magnuse sudo koha-remove demo
23:29 magnuse Removing Koha instance demo
23:29 magnuse ERROR 1396 (HY000) at line 1: Operation DROP USER failed for 'koha_demo'@'%'
23:30 eythian it's a pain when it fails, because it aborts the whole process. I need to make it more robust.
23:31 eythian Usually when that happens I remove it by hand.
23:31 magnuse login to mysql as root and remove the user and database?
23:31 eythian yeah
23:32 eythian and /etc/koha/sites/demo, /etc/apache2/sites-*/demo, /var/lib/koha/demo
23:33 eythian and deluser koha-demo
23:33 eythian I should make a 'force remove' option that just busts through and does what it can.
23:34 eythian Patches welcome ;)
23:38 rangi hmm someone gonna do a write up for patch day?
23:38 rangi 33 changed status eh?
23:38 eythian where does one define routing lists? Are they attached to a subscription?
23:38 rangi yes
23:42 magnuse rangi: i thought i'd do a summary and suggest another day for july 8th, when biblibre are having their first sign off etc half day (unless they want to have the day to themselves, of course)
23:43 magnuse havn't gotten the time for it yet, but will do it tomorrow
23:46 magnuse thanks for your help rangi & eythian - the upgrade worked, but sadly not my attempt to fix my css problem... better start diggin around again
23:46 eythian it's a start, anyway :)
23:46 magnuse yup
23:48 rangi cool thanks magnuse
23:48 magnuse and the whole package malarky will be great once i figure out that little css niggle... you guys (and liw) rock!
23:50 magnuse ok, it's 2am and the sun is shining - time to go to bed!
23:50 magnuse see ya!
23:50 rangi sleep well
23:50 magnuse will try...
