00:17 Brooke hi dcook
00:17 dcook hey Brooke
00:23 jcamins questhub.io is not the most obvious user interface, is it?
00:23 jcamins Apparently I created a quest in the wrong realm.
00:24 jcamins I can't figure out how to see the realm.
00:24 rangi you choose it when you create a user
00:24 jcamins I mean, I saw a link up at the top left, so I clicked it, but talk about lack of feedback!
00:24 rangi i reckon running our own instance is the way to go
00:25 rangi its all dancer
00:25 rangi and TT
00:25 rangi https://github.com/berekuk/pla[…]ews/event-atom.tt
00:25 wizzyrea wait what realm am I supposed to join
00:26 rangi none of them, unless you want to muck around
00:26 wizzyrea ohh
00:27 rangi i was playing in play-perl
00:28 rangi http://questhub.io/perl/explore/latest/tag/Koha
00:29 wizzyrea ohh cool
00:40 dcook Hmm, this could be fun

00:59 jcamins rangi: definitely our own instance... I got a very nice note informing me that I had to abandon my quest because it was in the wrong place.
00:59 jcamins I never saw what place I was putting it in.

02:08 rangi jcamins: did i show you this yet https://gitorious.org/koha/mai[…]6ecfef65e74ecd581
02:09 rangi gets you the star ratings, with isbn or issn if one exists as xml
02:09 jcamins Nice!
02:09 jcamins Why as XML?
02:10 rangi for this
02:10 rangi http://ratings.koha-community.org/
02:10 rangi when i finish it
02:11 jcamins Neat!
02:11 rangi which will let you paste in the url of your xml feed
02:11 rangi and it will aggregate
02:11 rangi and offer a new feed :)
02:11 rangi mostly cos i can do
02:11 rangi pl2xml
02:11 rangi and xml2pl
02:11 rangi to get from an object to xml and back again
02:11 rangi to easy
02:12 rangi the feed from ratings.koha-community.org
02:12 rangi ill offer in json, or xml
02:12 jcamins Yeah, encode_json/decode_json is pretty easy too.
02:12 rangi but my idea is have that site, let people add their feed
02:12 rangi and it will harvest data
02:12 rangi and offer a communitywide rating :)
02:13 mtj hey chris, thanks for the key add, too - works perfect
02:13 rangi sweet
02:13 rangi so yeah the export bit is done
02:13 rangi i just have to build the UX for ratings
02:14 rangi to allow ppl to register/add feeds
02:14 rangi next stop after this
02:14 rangi recommendations.koha-community.org
02:14 rangi based around the same idea
02:14 wizzyrea oh that's brilliant
02:14 mtj wow, truely awesome idea
02:14 wizzyrea it's YOUR birthday and you are giving US presents
02:14 wizzyrea legend.
02:14 rangi heh
02:15 rangi that was saturday i think
02:15 rangi after whisky
02:15 rangi when i was lounging around on the couch
02:15 wizzyrea meh. it's birthday SEASON.
02:15 rangi i gotta get it actually caching too, but thast one more line
02:15 mtj whiskey + coding = win
02:17 rangi course evergreen will be able to use the ratings too
02:17 rangi (its just star ratings at this stage)
02:17 rangi because its keyed by isbn/issn
02:18 rangi recommendations and reviews to follow
02:21 mtj tagging too, even?
02:21 rangi why not
02:22 rangi i think ill get people to agree to cc-sa
02:22 rangi when they add their feed
02:22 rangi to the list
02:22 rangi havent fully thought that through
02:22 rangi somethign like that
02:22 rangi that makes sense for data
02:27 rangi ill push all the ratings.koha-community.org code to gitorious too as soon as its doing something if people want to fork and do reviews or tags :)
02:28 wizzyrea rangi++
02:37 mtj wow, i just noticed all the goodreads patches
02:37 dcook I heard goodreads patches?
02:37 * dcook perks up
02:38 wizzyrea and then... amazon bought them :(
02:38 dcook :o
02:38 dcook What?!
02:38 rangi oh i did some of those a while ago then i got bored when amazon bought them
02:38 dcook :'(
02:39 rangi they work
02:39 rangi https://secure.flickr.com/phot[…]ginui/8550215249/
02:40 dcook Another reminder of why I need my own system for managing my reading lists...
02:41 mtj they seem to have some useful api stuff -> http://www.goodreads.com/api
02:42 dcook Yeah, rangi and I chatted a bit about that a while ago
02:42 dcook I talked about putting something together but it just wasn't much of a priority, since our clients are mostly special libraries
02:42 rangi theres no reason someone cant make lists.koha-community.org too ;-)
02:43 rangi if ptfs-europes rebus was floss id use that
02:43 rangi http://www.ptfs-europe.com/rebuslist/
02:44 dcook Hmm, good point, rangi
02:45 * dcook would have a much easier time trusting the Koha community with his reading habits rather than a company that's going to up and sell when it sees green
02:46 rangi *nod*
02:46 rangi we ahve a bunch of data now, reviews, tags, star ratings
02:46 rangi we should share it
02:46 rangi and not rely on 3rd party things that go away, or change, or sell our data ;-)
02:46 dcook \o/
02:47 rangi ideally
02:47 rangi we would do it distributed
02:47 dcook Admittedly, not everyone wants that information to be public
02:47 rangi like gravatar
02:47 rangi yep, thats why opt in
02:47 rangi sorry not gravatar
02:47 rangi libravatar
02:47 eythian libre.fm
02:47 rangi https://www.libravatar.org/
02:48 rangi status.net
02:48 rangi any of those spread yourself out ideas i like
02:48 dcook I don't know if I necessarily want to spread myself out per se
02:48 rangi http://www.gplhost.com/  <-- cool!
02:49 dcook But I want to have access to my information
02:49 dcook I guess I want to spread myself...but limit who can see me
02:49 rangi dcook: federate/distribute the service = less likely to go down
02:49 dcook Mhm
02:49 wizzyrea ooooo
02:49 dcook Hence why having a reading list with my local library isn't necessarily that useful
02:49 rangi *nod*
02:49 dcook If my local library goes down, changes vendors, etc. My data is gone.
02:50 rangi http://www.gplhost.com/hosting-vps-zone2.html  <-- sydney
02:50 rangi thats a pretty sweet deal
02:50 wizzyrea man highlighting really throws people
02:51 wizzyrea at least the way we do it
02:51 rangi the zone1 ones are still better
02:51 dcook Intriguing..
02:51 rangi yep
02:52 rangi we do do it pretty weirdly

03:00 zebran00b lol, why change my handle now?
03:01 zebran00b its still my biggest pain
03:01 zebran00b congrats to whomever here was involved in 10.12
03:01 eythian 10.12 is still a long way away :)
03:02 zebran00b whats this I saw about a release?
03:02 zebran00b admittedly I only drove by a headline on Twitter, I didn't actually read anything
03:02 eythian that'll be 3.12 :)
03:02 jcamins 3.12.
03:03 wizzyrea confetti
03:03 wahanui o/ '`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`
03:03 wizzyrea more confetti
03:03 wahanui o/ '`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'
03:04 zebran00b oops, I'm juggling projects on way too many platforms
03:05 zebran00b @eythian would you happen to know if I wanted to have, say, a mediawiki installed on the same server as Koha but with Koha still at the home directory level, how do I make the mediawiki accessible? AFAIK perl overrides the actual directory tree in the URL, right?
03:05 huginn zebran00b: I'll give you the answer as soon as RDA is ready
03:06 zebran00b @huginn point and match.
03:06 huginn zebran00b: I'll give you the answer just as soon as RDA is ready
03:07 eythian zebran00b: well, I think there are some assumptions in your question that may be incorrect.
03:07 eythian perl doesn't override anything, but Koha does require that it is always at a fixed location from the root of the URL.
03:08 eythian You could put mediawiki into example.com/wiki quite happily, for example
03:08 eythian or give it its own domain at wiki.example.com
03:08 jcamins But that doesn't impact mediawiki at all.
03:08 jcamins They're different virtual hosts.
03:08 zebran00b interesting, it must be my fault from my muddled install
03:09 zebran00b I tried something like that, and when I went to example.com/wiki, all I got was a Koha missing page error.
03:09 eythian that just means you didn't have your apache configured to understand the wiki location.
03:09 jcamins zebran00b: I think in order to have that work you'd have to combine them into a single virtualhost.
03:09 eythian yes, you would
03:10 jcamins Which would be the opposite of what all the instructions are going to assume.
03:10 rangi or do mod_proxy stuff, which would be needless complication :)
03:10 jcamins If you're proxying, use nginx.
03:10 * eythian would recommend virtual hosts, as it makes things easier should you want to split them up in the future
03:10 zebran00b cheers @eythian @rangi @jcamins
03:12 eythian zebran00b: IRC doesn't use '@' like that, it was around long before twitter :)
03:13 * eythian runs 'dch -v 3.12.00-1'
03:14 zebran00b I know, but IRC chat protocols are fairly low on my to-do list
03:15 eythian it also makes huginn cranky. Or at least confused.
03:15 jcamins Hey, what happens if you send huginn an @later with instructions to @later someone else...
03:15 jcamins @later tell huginn @later tell jcamins hi
03:15 huginn jcamins: Error: I can't send notes to myself.
03:15 jcamins Darn.
03:16 wizzyrea haha pwnt
03:16 eythian wahanui: remind cait later is <reply>@later tell cait it's early, go back to bed
03:16 wahanui OK, eythian.
03:17 eythian wahanui: remind cait later
03:17 wahanui @later tell cait it's early, go back to bed
03:17 huginn wahanui: The operation succeeded.
03:17 wahanui huginn: huh?
03:17 huginn wahanui: I'll give you the answer as soon as RDA is ready
03:17 wahanui ...but i'll give you the answer as soon as rda is <reply>...
03:17 wizzyrea lol eythian
03:17 eythian I was almost expecting a botwar there.
03:17 wizzyrea that would have been epic.
03:18 eythian wahanui: The operation succeeded is <reply>I'm making a note here: HUGE SUCCESS
03:18 wahanui OK, eythian.

04:02 eythian I think the Koha debian repo needs some trimming. It's far too large with unused files.
04:04 dcook Like what?
04:04 * dcook says only because he plans to install Koha via packages sometime this week
04:04 eythian koha/pool/main/k/koha/koha_3.9-1~git+20121101121026.5994dd21.tar.gz
04:04 eythian 31293440  68%  654.81kB/s    0:00:21
04:04 eythian that kind of thing
04:04 eythian just old, supersceeded versions, but with their large files still around.
04:05 eythian it's supposed to clean them up, but apparently it doesn't always.
04:05 wizzyrea harm in nuking it?
04:05 eythian none, there's tools to do it for me.
04:05 eythian right now the whole thing is 1.2GB
04:06 dcook Any chance of people downloading the wrong/outdated files?
04:06 eythian no.
04:06 eythian unless they actively go looking for them
04:07 eythian $ reprepro dumpunreferenced | xargs du -hc | tail -1
04:07 eythian 989Mtotaal
04:07 wizzyrea yeh, I'd get rid of it
04:07 dcook Hmm, I wonder why the tools aren't always doing it then
04:07 eythian that's how much is unused
04:07 dcook Wow
04:09 eythian down to 287MB now, that's more reasonable
04:12 dcook :D

05:43 eythian ah.

12:56 oleonard I'm surprised Bug 10267 hasn't come up before
12:56 huginn Bug http://bugs.koha-community.org[…]_bug.cgi?id=10267 minor, P5 - low, ---, koha-bugs, NEW , No error message when entering an invalid cardnumber
12:57 oleonard Easy enough to set maxlength on the text input, but I suspect people also want some kind of JS warning if they have hit the limit (say, from a barcode scan)
12:57 oleonard Or better just to up the limit to 50 or 100 and forget maxlength?
13:00 drojf i wonder if it is worth to ask people again to stop cross-posting or just give up
13:00 cait oleonard: we were setting up staff acounts, trying to use the name
13:00 samueld what does it mean this message when i use opac as a cms "Software error:  Global symbol "$cgi" requires explicit package name at /home/koha/kohaclone/opac/pages.pl line 63. syntax error at /home/koha/kohaclone/opac/pages.pl line 70, near ") {" Execution of /home/koha/kohaclone/opac/pages.pl aborted due to compilation errors."
13:01 jcamins You have a syntax error in the Perl.
13:01 cait samueld: the koha as a cms hack is probably not suitabel for current versions
13:02 jcamins And, yeah, I think using that is a bad idea.
13:02 cait oleonard: not sure i understand your suggestions - cardnumber is 16 chars
13:03 oleonard cait: Change the db?
13:03 wahanui oleonard: that doesn't look right

13:03 oleonard Sorry wahanui

13:03 * oleonard dusts off wahanui
13:03 cait no i think actually 16 is quite reasonable
13:03 samueld yes, that 's for why i battle with the head of the library who wants to have a complete website with koha, instead of using other tools like drupal
13:03 jcamins samueld: tell him/her that if s/he wants to do that, s/he will almost certainly have to pay a developer to write the feature.
13:04 jcamins That should persuade your boss it's not a good idea. :)
13:04 jcamins Well... maybe, anyway. ;0
13:04 jcamins *;)
13:05 samueld yes, good idea and with the financial restrictions in high school, that will be difficult
13:05 jcamins My thought exactly. Drupal already exists and does not require a large up-front investment.
13:07 cait there are lots of nice open source options for creating websites

13:38 huginn Bug http://bugs.koha-community.org[…]w_bug.cgi?id=7973 new feature, P5 - low, ---, gmcharlt, Pushed to Master , Allow for new type of LDAP authentication
13:38 gerundio I've seen version 3.12.0 release notes (http://koha-community.org/koha-3-12-0-released/) and it's there
13:39 cait it should be in there
13:39 cait why do you think it is not?
13:39 gerundio does this mean that it won't make it to the 3.8.x branch where I solved it in the 1st place?
13:39 cait it's a new feature
13:40 cait therefore it won't go into maintenance versions
13:40 cait it should be in 312, but it will not go down fromthere
13:40 gerundio ok, thanks for the heads up cait++
13:42 gerundio btw, in the meantime I'm thinking of updating koha to 3.10.x or 3.12.x ... is the upgrade process similar to this one I just performed or are there any major changes to it?
13:42 cait it owuld be similar
13:42 jcamins gerundio: same process, but it takes a bit longer.
13:42 jcamins Well, much longer.
13:43 gerundio but other than that, config files and such remained the same?
13:45 cait gerundio: what do you mean?
13:46 jcamins The same files exist. They just have to be updated the same as they were from 3.8.5 to 3.8.12.
13:46 gerundio my config file from 3.8.5 to 3.8.12 remained exactly the same
13:47 jcamins Right, but that's because there were no changes, not because you didn't have to update them.
13:47 drojf gerundio: what do you mean by "solved it in the first place"? did you write the patch against 3.8 and not master?
13:47 gerundio jcamins, I know
13:47 jcamins There will be minor changes to the config files, but no changes to the process.
13:48 gerundio jcamins, ok :)

13:57 gerundio anyhow, since it isn't going to make it to 3.8.x I'll have to patch it myself everytime I update in that branch
13:58 drojf true
13:58 gerundio btw, it won't make it to 3.10.x either, right?

16:32 pianohacker gotcha
16:36 druthb the new films, while rearranging the universe…have one thing in common with TOS that seems to irk some women.  Instead of the strong, competent women of DS9 and VOY and ENT, we're seeing very TOSsy, here-I-am-in-a-short-skirt-save-me-Jim-Kirk women.
16:38 pianohacker yeah, they definitely brought that forward, especially for Uhura and (Alice Eve)
16:38 druthb Definitely.  Uhura is less aloof and prissy than she was in TOS, but it's still very 60's-ish.
16:39 druthb (Disclaimer: I'm in a unique position, having seen VOY through two sets of eyes, and it's *radically* different through a woman's lens.  So I'm biased about such matters.)

16:47 pianohacker druthb: Even just having janeway and 7 of 9 in the same series makes for an interesting combo :)
16:49 druthb Yes, although Seven is *much* less of a serious character.  The comedic relief of Data, in a catsuit to make the fanboys drooool.  (Well, fair 'nuf.  And fangirls.)  But Janeway was an awesome captain, given the screwy situations.
16:51 oleonard "Into Darkness" didn't exactly pass the Bechdel test did it?
16:52 * druthb thinks.
16:52 druthb No, I don't believe it did.
16:53 druthb There were only a couple of women who were more than bit-parts *at all*, and I don't recall them interacting much at all.
16:56 pianohacker I think at this point it's easier to keep a list of movies that pass bechdel than ones that fail it, unfortunately...
16:58 * oleonard was reminded of it when thinking about Janeway & 7 of 9
17:02 druthb They frequently talked *about* men, without breaking the sprit of bechdel, IMO…crewmates, work, etc.  But quite often, the episodes passed that test.

17:31 seneca Hello everyone - we're running into a strange issue that may have something to do with a bug we've found a thread about, but I wanted to check with the experts:

17:37 seneca cait, we didn't notice this happening in alignment with a certain update
17:37 seneca if you go to our tag cloud and choose the vacation tag, for example

17:37 seneca then go to the last of the three result pages...
17:38 cait hm i see
17:38 cait but it only happens for some
17:38 seneca yeah, say for "Turtle in Paradise"
17:38 cait i see it happens for the lemonade war
17:38 cait have you tried reindexing?
17:38 seneca clicking through on hat entry shows the correct availability, but the tag cloud results don't
17:39 seneca additionally, a regular search for say, "turtles," will return this book and have the availability correct, so it's just the tag cloud query that is incorrect, and only for some records

18:37 ryanlee gmcharlt, So the move can be made anytime between now and then.
18:39 smeagol\ drojf\ yes, a git installation, sorry
18:39 smeagol\ ok, who should i install as then. It doesn't really say in install.debian unless i missed it.

18:42 smeagol\ ok, what priviledges should i give me?
18:44 jcamins I always give myself (ALL) ALL, but in fact you shouldn't need any sudo privileges to develop for Koha using Apache.

18:47 jcamins oleonard++ # nice!
18:48 drojf oleonard: that is really cool
18:48 maximep yeah, nice
18:50 smeagol\ ok thanks, i'll install as myself from a terminal and not a root prompt, right?
18:50 pianohacker What's the usual way to add a systempreference these days? atomicupdate or updatedatabase.pl?
18:50 oleonard updatedatabase.pl
18:50 wahanui hmmm... updatedatabase.pl is still running.
18:50 oleonard Go and catch it wahanui
18:51 gmcharlt ryanlee: OK, and now it (the DNS manager) is bending to my will
18:51 pianohacker stop, updatedatabase.pl, stop!
18:52 pianohacker anyway. Okay. Saw some syspref additions through atomicupdates, is there a reason we aren't using it?
18:52 pianohacker Plus, are we still doing the trick of using XXX for the rev number and letting the RM assign it?
18:53 rambutan joined #koha
18:53 cait yes still XXX
18:53 gmcharlt pianohacker: yep, still XXX
18:53 cait also add it to the right .pref file ;)
18:53 cait but you of all people will know that :)
18:53 gmcharlt and DB updates in general ... are still a point of contension

18:53 pianohacker contension: disagreements on the running of conventions?
18:54 gmcharlt pianohacker++
18:54 pianohacker and yeah, I got the .pref file ;)
18:54 gmcharlt also, generally speaking patches aren't going to get bounced just because of trivial merge conflicts with updatedatabase.pl -- dealing wth those is one of my jobs
18:54 cait :)
18:55 cait gmcharlt: you make me use the dictionary a lot :) guess new RM = new vocabulary :)

18:59 smeagol\ Can i put myself in root group to do a git install, or should I do it as sudoer, if I don't, i can't edit index.list or any root owned file?
19:00 jcamins smeagol\: you can do it however you'd like. I only ever use sudo.
19:00 cait oleonard: it's very nice!
19:00 jcamins That's not really a Koha issue so much as a question of how you administer your servers. No need to change that.
19:07 jcamins smeagol\: BTW, what is index.list?
19:12 smeagol\ jcamins\indexdata.list
19:13 jcamins smeagol\: oh, I thought you were asking about installing Koha itself. Naturally you're going to need to be root or have root privileges to install the dependencies.

20:28 jcamins maximep: I don't, actually.

20:36 cait hi DisneyDave
20:37 DisneyDave We just installed a fresh version of 3.10
20:38 jcamins DisneyDave: careful. With that nick people might think that you work at Disney. :) (yes, I know you do)
20:38 DisneyDave We copied the MYSQL dump from the old installaton
20:38 DisneyDave and imported it into 3.10
20:38 DisneyDave How do we fix the schema
20:38 DisneyDave Hey jcamins!
20:38 wahanui i guess jcamins is insane.
20:39 DisneyDave Come visit WDW
20:39 jcamins DisneyDave: did you use the packages?
20:39 DisneyDave to install the new one, yes we used packages
20:39 jcamins \o/
20:39 jcamins Packages are awesome.
20:40 jcamins It's very challenging... step 1: run `sudo koha-upgrade-schema [your-installation-name]`. Step 2: go enjoy a ride at the amusement park. Step 3: regretfully go back to work on your upgraded installation.
20:40 DisneyDave go to disneykoha.cloudapp.net to see error
20:41 jcamins Actually, not so challenging, you may have gathered. :)

20:41 jcamins DisneyDave: you were on 3.6 before, right?
20:41 DisneyDave we are not sure of version prior.  How can we tell?
20:42 DisneyDave Will we need to redo zebra after schema upgrade?
20:42 jcamins Hmmm... you could check in MySQL. But, when did you install it?
20:42 cait your about koha page would show the version
20:42 jcamins cait: not if they're in maintenance mode.
20:42 cait if you can access that?
20:42 DisneyDave Dev version: 3.09.00.004
20:43 jcamins Yeah, so follow my three-step process and you'll be good to go.
20:43 DisneyDave Zebra is done - we are running schema now
20:43 DisneyDave BTW you all rock
20:43 DisneyDave I love Koha
20:44 DisneyDave and I finally have someone to help

20:44 tcohen you should also know that 3.12 is awesome DisneyDave
20:44 jcamins You can tell your bosses that Koha's former RM instructed you to take a break and enjoy the amusement park if you'd like.
20:44 jcamins She is not. She left about fifteen minutes ago.
20:45 DisneyDave We will upgrade to 3.12 soon
20:45 DisneyDave Once we get this aligned
20:45 DisneyDave Nicole left?  Must have been something I said?
20:45 jcamins Hehe. Five minutes before you arrived.
20:46 DisneyDave I'll use better deoderant tomorrow
20:47 DisneyDave .
20:50 jcamins bag: how many speakers are needed for the talk on testing?
20:55 DisneyDave Thanks again.  We are doing the schema migration. Seems to be taking a while.  Is there any time estimate?  I thought itd be fast.

21:10 DisneyDave After the schema migration, do I need to reindex Zebra?
21:11 cait drojf: but I can't imagine a library trying to do that in Germany :)
21:11 jcamins DisneyDave: you should not, no.
21:11 drojf cait: probably because they don't have the datenautobahn in the us :D

22:49 tcohen do u have a saved searhc I could follow rangi?
22:50 rangi for?
22:51 tcohen oh, I want to get a list of the bugs I should pay attention for the 3.12.x maintenance task
22:52 rangi oh
22:52 rangi i just watch the master commit log
22:53 tcohen ok
22:53 rangi and then have filters to highlight any mail from the bugs list that mentions 3.10.x etc
22:53 tcohen I pushed some trivial patches already, have u seen?
22:53 rangi yep well done :)
22:53 rangi i find if you keep up with master its not too bad
22:54 tcohen yes, and 3.12-specific bugs will arise once master has diverged a bit more I guess
22:54 rangi *nod*
22:55 rangi its quite rare
22:55 rangi normally what happnes the more it diverges, is patches need to be rebased
22:55 rangi but usually the bugs occur in both
22:55 rangi or only in master
22:56 rangi its only deprecated features, that are no longer in master, that might have a bug in older versions

22:56 rangi but its your call :)
22:56 tcohen minor priority
22:56 rangi not really an enhancement more a bug fix imho
22:57 tcohen but, it could be a basis for divergence imo, at least the second patch
