02:43 Waylon hiya all. the /tmp/sessionlog file, whats it used for? for a 2 server cluster, does /tmp/sessionlog need to be shared, in order for koha to work correctly?
02:58 wajasu The file /tmp/sessionlog contains login and out details.  i don't know about how to set up a cluster.  Maybe if you have load balancing infront of the koha servers, with session affinity, its ok to use separate ones.
02:59 Waylon session affinity?
02:59 * Waylon is replicating the mysql db
03:00 Waylon so.. should sync the sessionlog file too?
03:00 bag evening
03:00 wajasu somehow, the load balanger/gateway is configured to use something like the user cookie, to determine where the users is working, and routing the reuests to the same server.  in that case, the /tmp/sessionlog should be ok.
03:02 Waylon but if thats not true, that each request is evaluated and sent to the current lowest cpu usage, id need to share the sessionlog?
03:04 wajasu correct.  but two servers sharing with some sort of file locking/coordination would be in order.  i haven't looked at the koha code.  maybe if you google koha cluster, you can find a docutmented setup.
03:05 * Waylon is using glusterfsd
03:10 wajasu i thought there was a session table in the database.  so if thats shared, maybe your auth is ok.
03:11 Waylon yeah, there is a session table in database
03:11 Waylon so why do we have sessionlog?

06:09 mtj so, worst case, the session log might be goofy for a multi-koha server

12:49 Waylon from koha 2.0.0pre2 heavily modded to whatever is most well supported.
12:49 libsysguy did you use git at all Waylon?
12:49 Waylon wasn't me that modded it.
12:49 libsysguy oh
12:49 libsysguy ouch
12:49 mib_r0crqt i'm looking at moving from 3.8.0 to 3.8.1 for the sake of the bug fixes
12:50 Waylon can't find a git version because they cherrypicked patches from koha trunk.
12:50 libsysguy mib_r0crqt: did you check out from git? or did you download and unzip?
12:50 mib_r0crqt I've only recently install Koha 3.8.0, is there an easy way to move to Koha 3.8.1 short of just basically re-installing Koha at the 3.8.1 version?
12:50 wahanui i already had it that way, mib_r0crqt.
12:50 libsysguy sweet baby jesus Waylon…you are in a bad place
12:50 Waylon yup.
12:50 libsysguy mib_r0crqt: there is an upgrade path
12:50 mib_r0crqt i did it from the tar ball
12:51 Waylon hell.. if i knew what i was getting myself into, i might not of got the job.
12:51 mib_r0crqt is there any documentation on the upgrade path?
12:51 libsysguy mib_r0crqt: there is somewhere
12:51 libsysguy somebody may be able to find it faster than I can
12:51 * libsysguy really only messes with git installs
12:52 mib_r0crqt i see
12:52 libsysguy if you download the latest version there should be an upgrade file in there
12:52 mib_r0crqt well ....
12:52 libsysguy what have you done to your 3.8.0 install
12:52 mib_r0crqt i did download it just this morning
12:52 libsysguy ok, do you see the upgrade file in there
12:52 kyleh__ does anyone know the state of that mobile opac that was done with pure css? Has anyone heard from those people in a while?
12:52 mib_r0crqt i saw the normal install-debian and readme-debian
12:52 clrh kyleh__: we did something
12:52 mib_r0crqt but nothing on upgrading
12:53 libsysguy damn
12:53 clrh kylemhall: I can find something somewhere :)

12:53 libsysguy people that do upgrade doc…where are you :p
12:53 * Waylon idly wonders what a 100% jquery dynamic update koha would be like.
12:53 kylemhall clrh: thanks! I really hope we get a patch for that soon!
12:54 magnuse upstreaming++ ;-)
12:54 Waylon long way from me doing that magnuse
12:54 clrh magnuse: signoffing++
12:55 clrh we are doing everyday upstreaming...
12:55 libsysguy hey mib_r0crqt I have been thinking about it
12:55 libsysguy if you want to test
12:55 libsysguy installing koha from packages would cause you far less heartache
12:55 mib_r0crqt ?
12:55 mib_r0crqt using the git method?
12:56 mib_r0crqt i actually liked figuring out the tar ball method
12:56 libsysguy mib_r0crqt: no you can actually use apt to install koha
12:56 libsysguy[…]e_Debian_packages
12:56 magnuse clrh: i didn't say you were'nt, i think? ;-)
12:56 jcamins mib_r0crqt: look at INSTALL.debian.
12:56 * libsysguy did tarball at first too
12:56 jcamins mib_r0crqt: but better would be to just switch to packages.
12:56 jcamins suffering--
12:56 jcamins packages++
12:56 libsysguy man that's two right answers for me today
12:57 libsysguy im on a roll :p
12:57 jcamins :)
12:57 libsysguy i think the wiki link has a way to update from tarball to packages
12:57 mib_r0crqt i noticed it mentioned the .deb package for koha
12:57 libsysguy mib_r0crqt: yeah that would be the easiest way
12:57 mib_r0crqt but it was so far from what i did for 3.8.0 ...
12:58 mib_r0crqt i'll check it out soon
12:58 libsysguy ok
12:59 libsysguy mib_r0crqt: I have 2 weeks off after today if you want some help
12:59 libsysguy we can meet up somewhere and I can help you out
12:59 jcamins mib_r0crqt: and libsysguy doesn't really get this whole "vacation" thing.
12:59 jcamins Clearly.
12:59 mib_r0crqt hey you know libsysguy ... everything i'm doing is for personal satisfaction
13:00 libsysguy haha well thats cool too
13:00 libsysguy thats why I do development for Koha
13:00 jcamins He's going from a job where he installs Koha for one library to a job where he installs Koha for a lot of libraries, and in between he'd like to install Koha!

13:00 libsysguy I don't really do much development for UT
13:00 libsysguy oh

20:32 cait gml: are you creating a new order right now?
20:32 cait in acquisitions?
20:33 cait and is your AcqCreateItem preference set to "on order"?
20:33 jcamins_mib gml: what version of Koha are you using?
20:33 cait because it applies only if that is the case
20:33 gml yes, I have the quantity=0 in neworderempty when AcqCreateItem = "place an order"
20:34 cait yes
20:34 cait click add on the item form above
20:34 cait there is a small link below the item form
20:34 drojf see, that IS confusing!
20:34 cait drojf: I know - but we did not come up with a better idea
20:34 cait drojf: the thing is, you create items

21:50 jcamins dpavlin: I'll point out again that memoize is not a good choice for caching in Koha, since record invalidation can't be done.
21:51 dpavlin jcamins: i know, i know. I will replace it with compute I promise :-)
21:51 jcamins *cache invalidation
21:51 jcamins And that's true whether or not we're using memcached.
21:51 jcamins It's just even worse when we're using memcached.
21:51 cait dpavlin: it's so nice - you write something and I can hear your voice talking in my head
21:51 jcamins :D
21:52 wajasu whether you configure the z3950 server encoding to be marc-8 or utf-8, does koha support both? or should one set all the z3950 server encodings to utf-8?  does koha translate the marc records to a utf-8?
21:52 dpavlin wajasu: there is recent bug for that
21:52 jcamins wajasu: you have to set it to whatever the remote server supports.
21:53 jcamins If you have an example of a server that supports both (hard to find!), you should sign off on the bug.
21:54 wajasu ok.  so the installed marc flavour is only a guideline, and thinga are mixed.
21:54 jcamins UTF-8 and MARC-8 are different character encodings, not MARC formats.
21:54 wajasu right.
21:54 jcamins Koha will translate everything to UTF-8 after importing.
21:54 wajasu thats what i wanted to know.
21:55 jcamins But you have to get the UTF-8/MARC-8 decision right, or it'll just be ugly.
21:56 wajasu my user would see black diamonds. so they would change to marc8.  which would the correct things to do correct.
21:56 jcamins Right.
21:56 dpavlin It can be even worse: for us marc-8 records from voyager ended up beeing separate character and carron instead of single utf-8 char which was very tricky for editing
21:57 wajasu maybe we could convert for both options, and if black diamonds appear in one, and not the other, suggest that the encoding be changed in the config.
21:57 jcamins dpavlin: yeah, Koha needs to have better support for unicode normalization.
21:57 dpavlin and then our national library moved to aleph and doesn't have public Z39.50 server, so problem solved (for them)
21:57 jcamins wajasu: the problem is that there's no way to identify what the correct encoding is without looking at it.
21:58 * oleonard waves goodbye to #koha
22:00 wajasu thanks.
22:02 * cait highly recommends whatching the life stream for yapc:na
22:03 bag go #koha!!!!
22:08 dpavlin are there any pending Koha::Cache patches for sysprefs and such stuff or can I start?
22:09 jcamins dpavlin: I've decided I don't like any of the existing patches, so you can start over.
22:09 cait loö
22:09 cait lol even
22:09 wajasu does koha convert to a certain normalization standard ( NFD norm form decomposed, vs NFC norm form composed)?
22:09 cait my hand fell asleep
22:09 jcamins wajasu: no. It's a problem.
22:10 cait jcamins: hm not sure
22:10 jcamins cait: it's supposed to convert to NFKC, but it doesn't.
22:10 cait it does not if you say you get utf-8 to begin with
22:10 cait that's why I get the data from the union catalog in one of the iso....
22:11 jcamins cait: it doesn't normalize MARC-8 consistently either.
22:11 jcamins cait: I can get NFKC, NFD, *or* NFC from a MARC-8 record.
22:11 cait eek
22:11 cait we should fix that
22:11 jcamins cait: we should.
22:16 wajasu when i was writing a program to convert legacy library db to marc and had the option of using some options for normalization, i was looking hard for a guide.  maybe the wiki has it, or else it needs it.
22:16 jcamins Not yet, that I know of.
22:17 wajasu my fear is folks can run with bogus transformations for a few years, thinking some bugs exist in the code, while the data is not consistent.
22:21 * jcamins knows of two libraries that were in that situation.
22:23 wajasu i did a diacritic fix once, but could not be sure my setup was comparable to a debian install.  thats why i am using a debian VM now.  so as not to bring in some new behavior when patching.
