14:05 Brooke so
14:05 Brooke are you swapping the default TO display
14:05 Brooke or to crunch?
14:07 oleonard ?
14:09 sekjal morning, all!
14:09 Brooke it seems like from what you're saying and the bug reads, that it'll be collapsed by default
14:09 Brooke which I also agree is strange
14:10 Brooke so why wouldn't we just pick a sensible default?
14:10 Brooke (if more folks agree, of course.)
14:11 oleonard I would help if someone from Biblibre (originators of the feature) explained the original motivation. hdl perhaps?

14:28 oleonard Was it Biblibre's intention that all patron information be collapsed by default?
14:29 hdl[…]hment.cgi?id=5564 this one is broken
14:30 oleonard Try again
14:30 sekjal I don't see the benefit in collapsing the patron info on the sidebar
14:31 sekjal that area isn't particularly crunched for screen real estate
14:32 hdl oleonard: our intention was to collapse adress and phone. And show only library elements.
14:33 oleonard hdl: Including all extended patron attributes?
14:35 hdl mmm don't remember of extended patron attributes. I think collapsed too.
14:35 oleonard hdl: What's left? Patron category and home library?
14:36 hdl Because sometimes can be very big information.
14:36 adrien_s left #koha
14:36 sekjal it's sounding to me like some libraries would want this collapsed, and others would want it shown.  so..... syspref!
14:37 oleonard sekjal: Some simple CSS would do it
14:38 sekjal hmmm, yes, if there is a block of CSS/JS that could be dropped into the existing sysprefs for such, then that would work, as well

14:42 oleonard No kf yet wizzyrea
14:42 wizzyrea oh.
14:42 wizzyrea ok

14:53 oleonard wizzyrea and nengard: Here's something I'm considering for Bug 5898:
14:53 huginn Bug[…]w_bug.cgi?id=5898 normal, P5, ---, oleonard, ASSIGNED , search to hold feature not clearing
14:53 nengard works for me!
14:53 oleonard I'm concerned, however, that that is too easy a target in that menu.
14:53 nengard hmmm
14:54 nengard even if you did accidentally click it it's not the end of the world
14:54 nengard not like clicking it charges the patron $100 - they just have to search for the patron again
14:54 wizzyrea it is if you meant to say 'place on hold for'
14:54 wizzyrea pretty annoying
14:54 nengard annoying
14:54 nengard not the end of the world
14:54 wizzyrea it's more annoying than the same patron being there after logout/login and before 10 minutes
14:54 nengard really?
14:55 wizzyrea as a person at the desk, anything that shaves time off of a circ desk interactiion
14:55 oleonard This will go along with making sure the patron gets cleared upon logout
14:55 wizzyrea is good
14:55 nengard i'd think placing the hold for the wrong person is a bigger mistake
14:55 nengard i'm okay with pretty much anything
14:55 nengard wizzyrea knows best what it's like for people in the library
14:56 wizzyrea there are very specific circumstances where StH
14:56 wizzyrea is of optimal use
14:56 wizzyrea it's when you're at the circ desk, the patron you are talking to says "oh, and I wanted to place a hold on the new twilight"
14:56 wizzyrea chances are good there is someone behind that patron
14:56 wizzyrea tapping their foot
14:57 wizzyrea so if you accidentally nuked their entry from that menu
14:57 wizzyrea it would be at least another 30 seconds
14:57 wizzyrea to do the exact same task
14:57 wizzyrea you don't really realize how much that counts until you have summer reading, with 10 moms with zillions of kids running around

15:04 oleonard Probably better:
15:05 wizzyrea you know what I think - you know the clear screen button
15:05 wizzyrea can you piggyback the forgetting on that?
15:05 wizzyrea clear the screen, forget the patron
15:06 oleonard The "forget the patron" action will be tied to the loading of a blank circ page, so that will take care of that.
15:06 Oak joined #koha
15:07 wizzyrea ah it already does that cool :)
15:07 Oak \o
15:07 wizzyrea that would be good enough for *me*

15:07 wizzyrea just requires a bit of training.
15:08 wizzyrea "clear the circ screen to forget the patron"
15:08 oleonard It already clears (or should, at least) when you load a new patron record for checkout
15:08 wizzyrea *nod8
15:08 wizzyrea can you nuke that cookie on logout?
15:09 wizzyrea so it doesn't carry over?

16:01 oleonard Hi jcamins_away
16:01 jcamins_away is now known as jcamins
16:01 oleonard Not only do I know everyone by their IRC nicks, I think of those nicks in my head as however much I have to type before I can tab-complete
16:02 oleonard So jcamins, you're "jc"
16:02 jcamins Good morning, oleonard.
16:02 jcamins Heh. I think of the entire nick.
16:02 hdl jesus christ
16:02 slef jesus crust
16:03 slef oleonard: the different behaviour of tab-complete and autocomplete sometimes bites me.
16:04 oleonard yeah, the different behavior of different autocompletes often bites me too
16:04 hdl you know you're geek when you speak to ppl with their irc nicks.
16:05 oleonard Too bad for me I rarely get the chance to make that mistake
16:05 jcamins So Ruth is always "druthb," and Liz is always "wizzyrea." Most other people have nicks somewhat like their names.
16:05 miguel joined #koha
16:05 oleonard Although I had to really think the other day when on the phone with trea and trying to refer to sekjal
16:06 jcamins Oh, yeah, Ian gets called "sekjal" a lot.
16:06 trea heh. yes. ^^ this
16:06 * wizzyrea answers to "wizzy" in real life
16:07 jcamins It drives Shari crazy.
16:07 sekjal the proper, complete way to write it is Sek'Jal, but most username fields on the web don't respect capitalization or apostrophes, so I've simplified
16:07 jcamins "I was talking to druthb this afternoon, and..."
16:07 trea lol "who is that?!?"
16:08 jcamins That sentence is made all the more confusing by the fact that I pronounce it like a single word.
16:08 * wizzyrea is fortunate that the spouse knows everybody, mostly.
16:09 oleonard jcamins: droothbie?
16:09 jcamins It took me a *long* time to realize that "druthb" wasn't just an almost-pronounceable muddle.
16:09 jcamins Short u.
16:09 oleonard sekjal: Does "Sek'Jal" mean something?
16:09 jcamins I also didn't realize that "jdavidb" was "J David B" until she pointed out that "Ruth" was actually her name.

16:10 trea is now known as trea-away
16:10 oleonard Wow, talk about obscure
16:12 jcamins Shari and I both have (at some point in our lives) used characters in stories we wrote. It's a great way to come up with a unique name.
16:13 jcamins (used the names for online handles)
16:13 slef I rarely get called slef
16:13 slef mainly ex-TSWers
16:13 jcamins slef: that's because you haven't met me in person yet.
16:14 libsysguy ok so I think everybody knows that I am testing hourly
16:14 libsysguy but I just tried to merge with master and obviously got conflicts
16:14 libsysguy is there a command so that i can fix those one at a time
16:14 jcamins Just go through the files one at a time, you'll have to fix them all before you can continue.
16:15 sekjal libsysguy:  you should get a list of all the conflicted files.  go through each, and search for "===="
16:15 libsysguy right
16:15 libsysguy i just remember last time i merged
16:15 libsysguy i fixed them

16:35 cait but it still seemed to work
16:35 slef I've no idea why that was there, or where it came from
16:35 cait I had asked you if that was intentional :)
16:35 wizzyrea it was a duplicate table
16:35 wizzyrea the data output was exactly the same
16:35 slef cait: silly bee, don't expect me to remember earlier today!
16:35 wizzyrea just... twice

18:50 oleonard I posted a screenshot to bug 4298 btw
18:50 huginn Bug[…]w_bug.cgi?id=4298 enhancement, P5, ---, oleonard, NEW , Title detail display: improve display of item level hold information
18:52 wizzyrea one comment, the message "on hold" doesn't get at what the issue here is, which is that the hold is not title level, but item level
18:53 wizzyrea people get confused because "how can it be checked out and on hold at the same time"
18:53 wizzyrea the message is correct, technically
18:53 wizzyrea on hold for martha jones.
18:53 wizzyrea that's nice.
18:54 wizzyrea I like that :)
18:57 oleonard A real Martha who probably has no idea about her name
18:57 wizzyrea hehe
18:59 oleonard Thanks for the signoff wizzyrea
18:59 wizzyrea yw
19:01 oleonard So does the "on hold" message only appear if it's an item-level hold?
19:01 wizzyrea that's a good question
19:01 wizzyrea i wonder if the same mesesage serves for items that are waiting.
19:01 wizzyrea I don't think it does
19:01 * wizzyrea checks
19:02 oleonard There's a separate snippet of text for Waiting
19:02 wizzyrea what's this one described as
19:02 oleonard known as "Waiting"
19:02 wizzyrea "on hold?"
19:02 hdl joined #koha
19:02 oleonard IF ("waiting") Waiting ELSE On hold
19:03 oleonard But we don't say on hold for every available copy in the holding table anymore, so maybe this is only for item-level holds.
19:04 wizzyrea it  has been my experience that what you describe ^ is the case
19:04 wizzyrea 1mo and I'll verify
19:06 wizzyrea
19:08 oleonard My browser is all, "omg screencast from wizzyrea, better maximize"
19:08 wizzyrea oy. sorry.
19:08 oleonard :)
19:08 wizzyrea lookit my tabs!
19:08 wizzyrea :P
19:11 oleonard Yo dawg I heard you like Chrome so I put some Chrome in your Chrome
19:12 wizzyrea LOL
19:12 wizzyrea NE NE NE
19:12 wizzyrea htf do I get anything done. ;)
19:14 wizzyrea I recognized an interesting behavior in myself this morning
19:15 wizzyrea rather than click up to the address bar to type in a google search in a completely expendable tab, I ctrl-n'd and started typing
19:15 wizzyrea why would I do that? that is not sane at all.
19:15 jcamins You would do that because you don't know the shorcut Alt-D.
19:15 wizzyrea this, i'm sure, is how I end up with eleven zillion tabs.
19:16 slef ctrl l SearchEngineShortcutKeyword search terms
19:16 wizzyrea well I do now, sheesh
19:16 jcamins Or Ctrl-L.
19:16 * slef has ripped all the googlespecifics possible out of his lizards
19:17 wizzyrea jcamins++ that's helpful
19:17 jcamins Or Ctrl-K.
19:17 jcamins And now you have three shortcuts to simplify reusing tabs. :)
19:18 wizzyrea yay
19:18 slef like I can type kohabug something to query bugzilla
19:18 wizzyrea ooo that's neat
19:18 slef or I can just @query wahanui
19:18 * wizzyrea admits to sometimes saying the bug number *just to get the link*
19:18 slef @query huginn sorry
19:18 huginn slef: No results for "huginn sorry."
19:19 slef wizzyrea: right click a search engine query box some time ;-)
19:19 slef "Add Keyword for search..."
19:19 wizzyrea oo slef++ neato
19:19 slef now I'm feeling old
19:19 * slef goes in search of food
19:19 wizzyrea nah not old
19:20 wizzyrea experienced ^.^
19:20 oleonard Feeling old... search of food... slef's a vampire.
19:20 wizzyrea
19:21 oleonard Why do I always fubar my test system to where I can't place holds? How do I do it?
19:22 cait hm intensive testing?
19:22 wizzyrea ^^
19:22 wizzyrea so.
19:22 wizzyrea I had a thought
19:22 wizzyrea i know, for once.
19:22 wizzyrea it's easy to dump and reload databases using the packages, right?
19:23 jcamins wizzyrea: super easy.
19:24 wizzyrea what if there was a standard testing DB we made
19:24 wizzyrea packed it in with the packages
19:24 wizzyrea and had a koha-build-testing --reload
19:24 wizzyrea or somesuch
19:24 wizzyrea more likely koha-build-testdb
19:25 jcamins That'd be pretty cool, but aren't people more often testing with git?
19:25 wizzyrea yea, they are
19:25 * wizzyrea ponders more
19:25 wizzyrea the packages kind of need a dev mode :/
19:25 wizzyrea but idk if they can actually work that way
19:26 hdl wizzyrea: i think so too.
19:26 wizzyrea it would be so sweet to be able to koha-build-testdb --reload-data --keep-old --reindex
19:26 wizzyrea or something
19:26 hdl yep.
19:27 jcamins What's --keep-old do?
19:27 wizzyrea makes a dump of the current DB, in case you want to go back to it
19:28 jcamins Ah.
19:28 hdl But it was chosen to do install with standard  install.
19:28 jcamins Got it.
19:28 wizzyrea you'd probably have to pass it a name, or it'd be generated with the timestamp
19:28 wizzyrea or somesuch
19:29 jcamins 6 digit random alphanumeric.
19:29 wizzyrea O.O masochist.
19:29 hdl timestamp would be ok.
19:29 hdl date +%F
19:29 jcamins Timestamp seems much more painful.
19:30 jcamins "Hey, Joe, which instance are we using for testing?"
19:30 jcamins "123456789754"
19:30 wizzyrea anyway
19:30 jcamins It is a neat idea.
19:31 wizzyrea you're right though, you would have to be able to do the packages in dev mode
19:31 wizzyrea and there very well may be a reason not to do that
19:32 sekjal wizzyrea:  track mysqldumps with git
19:32 jcamins I'd be willing to bet that the Debian rules don't allow it.
19:32 sekjal then use the commit ID as the unique identifier
19:32 wizzyrea well there you go
19:33 sekjal have the dump put each bit of data on a new line
19:33 sekjal so changes can be tracked more easily
19:33 sekjal put each table into it's own file
19:33 jcamins sekjal: do you have the script for doing that?
19:33 sekjal jcamins:  not yet
19:33 jcamins sekjal: awww. ;)
19:34 sekjal it's just a matter of time at this point
19:34 sekjal but that would allow us to have different branches for different kinds of testing environments
19:34 sekjal one for single libraries
19:34 sekjal one for large consortia
19:34 sekjal one for special libraries, etc etc etc
19:34 sekjal checkout your preferred testing environment, load, and there you go
19:38 jcamins That would be very useful.
19:38 oleonard So, now that you've got it all worked out...
19:38 jcamins Of course, just having a good set of test data would be very useful, and make it more likely that I would test things.
19:42 jcamins (and presumably other people, too)
19:45 * oleonard would love some robust serials data for testing
