danmc, do mean for things like the Debian package? it is a good practice to have every server run as its own user so that if someone manages to gain control of the server process, they don't gain more privileges than that server (e.g., not other servers running on the same system) |

part of how this came up is I know someone who as root tried to install koha with KOHA_USER set to 'koha'. The chown -R in Makefile.PL then messed up his installed suid programs (notably 'sudo'). |

ok. so it looks like to get mpm-itk you patch it into an apache22 source tree and then it is a configure time selection and you end up with an apache that has been built specifically with mpm-itk. |
