09:33 CGI167 amit i am not able to access the koha admin pages from client machines. windows platform. tried http://serverip:8080 it hangs...without response..
09:33 kf Ropuch: depends, Schlagwortketten (subject chains according to RSWK) are stored in 689, but this is not a good solution for koha
09:33 Amit i think your firewall is on
09:34 CGI167 how do i proceed
09:34 kf Ropuch: we wrote a converter (tested successfully yesterday) to change them from chains to single subject headings in normal MARC21 fields - now facets are working great :)
09:35 CGI167 the start page comes welcome to koha.....and then it hangs....
09:35 hdl_laptop Kf are you using zebra facets or koha facets ?
09:36 kf hdl_laptop: uh, dont know, the one thats implemented in koha?
09:36 hdl_laptop ok.
09:36 CGI167 amit...i added the line listen 8080 into the conf file and then the welcome to koha 2.2.9 message comes...but then the browser hangs for a while before timing out...
09:37 kf hdl_laptop: but we had a question about facets some time ago - I think the implemented feature works with search strings and zebra facets would work through indexing?
09:39 hdl_laptop implemented feature parses the returned records.
09:40 kf I think zebra facets would be faster?
09:40 hdl_laptop and zebra facets would use zebra indexes.
09:40 hdl_laptop yes and more global
09:41 hdl_laptop But we have a problem with diacritics.
09:41 kf I looked at the code yesterday to find out how facets work, I saw comments about federated search
09:42 kf is it possible to do federated search with koha? with z39.50?
09:46 CGI161 left #koha
09:47 hdl_laptop kf: it could be/ should be possible.
09:48 hdl_laptop Since whatever z3950 server we connect to, we would have the same queries.
09:48 hdl_laptop What makes problem is displaying details.
09:49 kf do you know somebody who has implemented something like that in his library catalog?
09:49 hdl_laptop Since we donot have a failback on what the server returns.

14:14 munin Bug http://bugs.koha.org/cgi-bin/b[…]w_bug.cgi?id=3711 major, PATCH-Sent, ---, jwagner@ptfs.com, ASSIGNED, Intermittent search error in OPAC
14:14 jwagner Is that the same type of error you were having?
14:15 owen It's not a javascript error, it's a show-stopping error.
14:15 owen "Quantifier follows nothing in regex; marked by <-- HERE in m/* <-- HERE  the*/ at /home/oleonard/kohaclone/C4/Search.pm line 935."
14:20 nengard so maybe speaking up is just going to make me more and more tired ... there is no easy solution there is there?
14:20 owen jwagner: it doesn't look like your patch ever got approved, but there's no way to know whether it's still a problem until this new bug gets fixed.
14:25 owen Can anyone duplicate the search error I'm getting?
14:26 owen I'd hate to file a big fat blocker bug and find out it was user error.
14:27 nengard owen - happens for me too
14:27 nengard if i have a space before my search term
14:27 owen Okay, filing big fat blocker bug report.

14:50 CGI213 so does anyone know anything about the uprade release of Koha?
14:50 kf CGI213 where are you from?
14:50 schuster approved release?  Well sometime in the spring would be my guess.  I know there are people "testing" 3.2 kinda pre alpha even at this point.  I believe Galen talked about a "Beta" in January.
14:51 CGI213 Atlanta
14:52 CGI213 thank you for the fyi about the upgrade

14:52 kf I thought perhaps from Germany, because of your question
14:54 CGI213 not germany, i don't run the installation, the IT company I work for maintains the Koha server at a local university and they asked me to find out when the new upgrade is coming out.
14:55 imp but how is this related to german? :D

15:13 schuster Ah...  I'm on 3.0.11 so that might be part of it.
15:14 schuster hmmm how to get the district to update FF on 40,000 computers...
15:14 owen schuster: Do you have a computer you can try FF 3.5.6 on? At least then you'd know for sure whether that was really the problem.
15:15 schuster That's what I'm trying to figure out.  thanks
15:21 owen nengard still around?
15:23 nengard yup
15:23 nengard patching and documenting
15:23 owen Is there a difference between a "vendor" and a "supplier," and if not which is the best term to standardize on?
15:24 kf I think there are is also bookseller in new acq
15:25 owen That's right kf I knew there was a third
15:25 owen Anyone else have a vote?
15:25 imp imho a vendor is "someone" who produces the thing, a supplier may only sell the things a vendor produces?
15:25 kf I tried to translate all of them with Lieferant, I think this would be vendor or supplier
15:25 nengard owen - there is no difference
15:25 nengard they are all the same
15:25 nengard I'd say vendor - since you can buy more than books
15:25 owen I would probably choose "vendor," but I've not used any other acquisitions system for comparison.
15:25 kf but I think owen is right, we should only use one term
15:26 kf make it easier for translators too
15:26 nengard yup :)
15:26 kf vendor sounds better for me, but Im not a native speaker :)
15:26 nengard I've done a lot of training
15:27 nengard and no one has ever used a term other than vendor when i asked how they did acq
15:27 nengard but that is just the US
15:27 * owen chants USA! USA! USA! and changes everything to "vendor"
15:28 kf :)
15:28 nengard LOL
15:28 nengard owen - do you think when you're done with that you could test something for me
15:29 owen Sure
15:29 nengard on /cgi-bin/koha/tools/batchMod.pl?del=1  -- if you were to scan a barcode into the box does it submit the form before you get to scan another item?
15:29 nengard i don't have a scanner to test wtih
15:29 nengard with
15:29 owen Me neither :(
15:29 nengard wizzyrea around?
15:29 owen that's the trouble with VirtualBox, I can't hop on any computer and test
15:30 nengard or anyone else on who has the most recent HEAD and a scanner?
15:30 nengard and owen - you can easily plug any scanner into your computer :)
15:30 nengard they're plug & play
15:30 owen Yeah, tell that to the circ desk librarians who I'd have to steal one from :P
15:34 nengard hehe
15:34 nengard or the catalogers?
15:34 nengard I had one as a cataloger
15:34 nengard I'll send a message to the mailing list - unless someone in here has a scanner they can test with
15:35 owen nengard: Normally a scanner wouldn't submit a form from a textarea, since it's a carriage return and textareas will happily accept carriage returns without submitting the form

16:03 nengard i need to run an errand - but don't want to go out among all the crazies who will be stocking up on water and food - cause snow = end of the world
16:03 * chris_n2 thinks he may loose his seats at a play at UNC tomorrow :-(
16:04 chris_n2 hehe
16:04 nengard :(
16:04 chris_n2 snow = end of milk around here
16:04 nengard ah - yeah end of milk too
16:04 nengard but i have enough of that to get through the weekend ;)
16:04 nengard i think i should go out now - most people will be in work - right?
16:04 chris_n2 now's the best time probably
16:05 chris_n2 it'll get crazy this afternoon... especially if/when the precip starts
16:05 chris_n2 it's not the snow/ice I'm worried about... its the other people on the road that scare me ;-)
16:05 chris_n2 bbl
16:06 jwagner Those of us who grew up in the snow belt have _vastly_ superior winter driving skills :-)
16:06 chris_n2 jwagner: I grew up with snow, but most folks in NC did not apparently

17:00 CGI212 Is there a way to get Koha to automatically create item records when a batch of MARC records are imported? We imported all our MARC records but have no holdings. We use the 852 field for our holdings information so I tried importing a record with holdings information in the 952 field and an item record was found but not created. Thoughts?
17:01 sekjal CGI212:  did you have 952$a, $b and $y all populated with existing values in your Locations, Locations and Item Types (respectively)?
17:02 CGI212 Yes to 952$a, $b and $o.
17:02 sekjal CGI212:  if you fill in the $y with your Itemtypes, I think that will help
17:03 brendan joined #koha
17:05 CGI212 I see. That's problematic since we don't have itemtypes defined in our present records. I suppose this means we will have to create all new item records? Or is there a way around this? By the way, thank you very much for your help.
17:06 nengard left #koha
17:07 kf CGI212: there is no automatic way, but it should be no problem to add $y with a tool like marcedit
17:07 CGI212 Okay, I'll try that. Thanks!
17:07 sekjal CGI212: if your items all circulate the same way (have the same loan periods, fines, etc.) you could just assign a universal default value

21:49 wizzyrea NEKLS, as a local preference, has the label item search set to default to Barcode (we changed the templates... I'll wait while you cringe... ok) would it be possible to, say, have a checkbox in that window that says "Make this my default search type" and key it to the logged in user?

22:50 rhcl Hi brendan
22:50 brendan howdy
22:50 brendan you get any snow?
22:51 rhcl Not recently. Maybe light snow tonight and tomorrow. We do have a little left over from about 10 days ago.
22:51 brendan when I see an email from Liz Rea - it looks so weird - I'm used to seeing wizzyrea
22:52 brendan I've only seen snow on mountain tops so far this year - haven't got close to it yet
22:52 rhcl how are temps out there where you're at?
22:52 brendan it was 70 degrees today with a low of about 40 at night
22:53 rhcl Oh gee.....
22:53 brendan it hardly every varies from a high of 70 - even during the hottest parts of the summer
22:53 wizzyrea brendan: hehehe
22:54 wizzyrea i'm just hoping I didn't totally miss what she was saying
22:54 wizzyrea of course, without a URL I can't check myself to see what they're doing. That's so annoying
