17:59	chris	nope, im not sure how youd even tell it what charset to make a table
17:59	chris	i suspect if its a newish version, it will be using utf-8

18:00	owen	phpmyadmin uses this query to change it: ALTER TABLE `table` CHARACTER SET = `charset`
18:03	chris	try show full columns from table
18:04	chris	and if its version 4.1 or higher
18:05	chris	you should see the charset in a column called collation
