13:09 paul_p kf, I think they don't address the same thing.
13:09 kf hm, perhaps
13:10 paul_p the ptfs feature seems to deal with removing history one by one. Mine was to define a global rule.

15:40 jcamins How do I make it work?
15:41 wizzyrea jcamins: scan in a barcode that doesn't exist in the system
15:41 wizzyrea or type, your choice :)
15:41 jcamins That's what I thought, but it didn't do anything.
15:41 jwagner jcamins, I haven't tested this in current head -- let me try.
15:42 jcamins Oh, I bet this installation doesn't have the right framework.
15:42 wizzyrea hmm mine OH
15:42 wizzyrea yes
15:42 wizzyrea that
15:42 wizzyrea sec
15:42 wizzyrea it worked for me
15:44 jcamins Mystery solved. :)
15:45 jcamins Doesn't automatically populate teh barcode, though.
15:45 jcamins Nor return to circ.
15:45 jwagner jcamins, it also isn't doing the automatic checkout that our feature does.
15:45 jcamins jwagner: oh, so it's not supposed to?
15:45 jcamins Cool, I guess it works then. :)
15:46 kf jcamins: but I would like to see it doing thtat
15:46 jwagner What should happen is that you enter a barcode that doesn't exist, click on the Fast Add link, create the title and item, and save it.  Then it should automatically be checked out to the patron you started from.
15:46 kf jcamins: perhaps should openi n a new window at least.. and having one screen for title and item information would be nice
15:46 kf less clicks
15:47 jcamins Yeah, fewer clicks are better.
15:47 kf jwagner: yep, that would be an ideal workflow - was the library sponsoring that migrating from horizon?
15:47 jwagner Yes, and it works fine in our code
15:48 jwagner We had a slightly different Fast Add framework, but that's not likely to be a problem.
15:48 kf the biblibre feature uses the frameworks, I think a simpler interface like for new records in acq would be better, have a popup or something to fill out really fast and set a note in the record so you do the real cataloging when patron returns it
15:49 jwagner The screenshot on the bug report shows the fields for the framework we used -- a lot fewer.
15:50 jwagner It would be possible to modify the 3.2 fast add framework to hide some of the other fields if desired, though.
15:54 kf hm yes, but it would still require more clicks - save framework, add item, return to circ, check out
15:56 jcamins Does anyone remember whether Owen's patch to show the number of holds in the OPAC was committed?
15:56 jwagner kf, if it's working properly, you don't have to return to circ -- when you save the record, it takes you back to the checkout screen with the item already checked out.
15:57 jcamins Does anyone remember whether Owen actually wrote such a patch/
15:57 jcamins *?
15:57 * jcamins thought he did, but can't find it.
15:59 kf I think it's only in the normal view, not xslt

20:33 indradg rangi, if I have a collection that's not larger that say 40,000 items, do I get any real-world advantage by going with Zebra? ( i don't have to run a z39.50 off this system, just being able to use z39.50 search targets is enough)
20:34 indradg or would i be better off being in non-zebra mode
20:34 schuster rangi - here!

21:09 mib_eur65m I'm a library student exploring the functions of Koha and I was wondering if there is a way to renew an item for a patron that has a hold on it. I've set the AllowHoldPolicyOverride to allow and AllowRenewalLimitOverride to allow and can override when a patron has reached max renewals, but not when there is a hold on the item. Any ideas?
21:09 wizzyrea the only way I'm aware of is to check the item in, ignore the hold, and check it out again to the same patron.
21:10 wizzyrea we were resistant to that lack of functionality at first, too, but came to embrace it as customer service
21:10 wizzyrea "you can't have it longer if someone else is waiting on it"
21:11 mib_eur65m That's how I was able to get around it. Thanks a bunch!
21:12 wizzyrea i'm rereading what you said... you mean to renew an item for the current patron that has a hold on it for *another* patron
21:12 schuster bye all!!  American football practice with 6 year olds...
21:12 wizzyrea (which is what I described a solution for)
21:12 wizzyrea bye schuster
21:12 rangi have fun schuster
21:12 rangi do they tackle at that age? or flag?
21:13 schuster left #koha
21:13 wizzyrea erm...I'm guessing flag tackle would be too weird... for 6 year olds?
21:13 wizzyrea then again, it *is* america
21:14 wizzyrea and texas, to boot
21:14 mib_eur65m wizzyrea- yes renew an item for the current patron that has a hold for another patron
21:14 wizzyrea k just making sure :)
21:14 mib_eur65m thanks.
21:14 mib_eur65m makes total sense why you can't do it.
21:15 wizzyrea that function could probably be added, if someone *really* wanted it
21:15 wizzyrea but... eh
21:15 rangi yeah probably with a permissions pref, only some librarians allowed to do it
21:15 wizzyrea (though I think a patron should never be able to self renew an item with a hold on it from the OPAC)
21:15 rangi yeah
21:15 wizzyrea they should always have to go to the library or call
21:15 rangi altho, the thing with koha is if a library wants that, we'll add it
21:15 mtj the 'AllowRenewalLimitOverride' syspref could have that functionality added to it
21:16 wizzyrea mhm
21:16 rangi but its not one a developer is gonna do on their own time :)
21:17 * wizzyrea would love to see group based permissions. not this year though
21:17 rangi why not this year?
21:17 rangi not 3.4 sure, but aim for 3.6 might be feasible
21:18 rangi start sending patches now! :)

22:05 rangi fixing indentation and tidying up templates in general is high on the list of things id love to see
22:06 * jcamins wants to remove unnecessary arguments passed to the templates.
22:07 jcamins It would make it a heck of a lot easier to figure out where bad data was coming from if you didn't have hundreds of lines of unused variables to wade through.

22:08 * jcamins may be exagerating a little.
22:08 rangi yep
22:08 rangi with tt
22:08 rangi you can put a dumper call at the start of the template
22:08 rangi and find out what actually has been passed
22:08 rangi which is handy
22:09 jcamins Woohoo!
22:10 jcamins If only I had known that, I could've saved a ton of time on my fix for 5390.
22:10 jcamins Check out the T::T branch, and get a list of what variables were being passed.
22:11 rangi i forget the syntax, but i have seen it done
22:11 jcamins Well, my 5390 follow-up will be done on the T::T branch, then.
22:12 jcamins There are still excessive calls to GetBranchesLoop on the staff client.
22:13 jcamins (with different arguments, which means you can end up with some wacky behavior)
