07:10 marcelr hi #koha
07:30 reiveune hello
07:56 alex_a Bonjour
08:45 Joubu @later tell khall I've attached a follow-up on bug 29735, please include it in 21.11.02
08:45 huginn Joubu: The operation succeeded.
08:53 marcelr      Joubu++
08:53 marcelr trying to get back there
09:50 ashimema morning
09:50 marcelr just deleted a finished test; git reset !
09:50 marcelr hi ashimema
10:00 Joubu git stash, always ;)
10:00 ashimema hehe
10:00 ashimema my stash gets huge sometimes
10:03 marcelr i like to edit git formatted patches but sometimes things happen
10:03 marcelr lol
10:04 marcelr it is a way to improve your code
10:04 marcelr what you do not recollect, was not needed
10:04 marcelr hmm
10:04 cait1 texts tend to get better if you are forced to write them a second time... but it#s still no fun
10:04 cait1 :)
10:05 ashimema lol
10:14 * cait1 waves
10:22 cait1 I have an error Can't call method "isa" on an undefined value at when trying to install a plugin
10:23 cait1 anyone any idea about this? I wonder if it could be a dependency issue... as I have a report tht it installs fine for someone else on the same version
10:26 cait1 Full error is: Can't call method "isa" on an undefined value at /usr/share/koha/lib/Koha/Plugins/Base.pm line 300 on koha 20.11.12
10:29 cait1        the lines are: sub _version_compare {     my @args = @_;      if ( $args[0]->isa('Koha::Plugins::Base') ) {         shift @args;     }
11:03 ashimema what plugin is it again cait1
11:04 ashimema and are you installing it for the first time or upgrading it?
11:04 ashimema must be upgrade I think, else it wouldn't call _version_compare (unless they're calling it internally in their plugin.. which I've seen a few times)
11:06 ashimema basically.. make sure 'version' is defined in the metadata of the plugin
11:06 ashimema it not being defined is what would lead to that error
11:06 ashimema cait1 ^
11:10 cait1 installing for the first time
11:10 cait1 but have treid multiple times already...
11:10 cait1 can I check easily if something has been isntalled despite the internal server error?
11:12 ashimema if you are installing for the first time and don't have any data to keep
11:12 ashimema nuke the plugins table in the database may be simplest
11:12 cait1 nope
11:12 cait1 ok, I am checkign the table sec
11:13 ashimema what plugin is it?
11:13 ashimema oop.. I see you PM'd me that
11:18 ashimema not registered for hackfest yet?
11:18 ashimema Paul tells me only Joubu has so far 😉
11:19 cait1 I am not sure I'll be able to attend by then
11:20 cait1 March is really soon and the numbers/situation here is really bad with Covid
11:20 cait1 10 hour train ride... big group of people... daily restaurant visits ...
11:21 ashimema fair
11:21 ashimema I'm still considering it all... hoping the numbers have settled down again by March
11:27 oleonard Hi #koha
11:28 cait1 March is usually pretty cold here still... I was hoping it would be pushed more into summer
11:29 ashimema hackfest oleonard?
11:30 oleonard Still deciding... I really want to.
11:33 ashimema We have 3 here keen to go, plus one more whose waiting on more Covid data
11:33 ashimema the world is such a mess right now ☹️
11:33 oleonard Understatement.
11:33 cait1 yeah :(
11:34 cait1 I really WANT to go to
11:34 cait1 o
11:34 oleonard I'm stuck between wanting to wait and see and wanting to get tickets before it's too late/expensive.
11:34 ashimema yeah
11:34 cait1 yeah, I think that's an issue with it being so soon
11:34 ashimema totally the same position..
11:34 ashimema prices will go up
11:34 ashimema right now it's uber cheap to get there for us
11:35 ashimema but those tickets will sell out or just be taken off the market as they are.
11:36 ashimema we're trying to be more green as a company.. so have been considering training it.. it's really upsetting how much more the train costs vs a cheap flight.. like a 10x increase (with a 4x increase in time it takes too!)
13:29 cait1        ashimema++
13:32 tuxayo hi ^^
13:35 tuxayo > it's really upsetting how much more the train costs vs a cheap flight.. like a 10x increase
13:35 tuxayo That's the problem with oil, it's overpowered compared to everything else, so no wonder we use so much of it and are addict ^^
13:42 tuxayo > with a 4x increase in time it takes too!
13:42 tuxayo Which increases even more the cost!
13:42 tuxayo If that can help, know that for the Paris-Marseille part, night trains are again in service. It ceased during a few years.
14:22 matts tuxayo, no tax on kerosene is vastly responsible for that, I think.
16:33 reiveune bye
17:00 domm ashimema: I sent a mail to Paul Poulain regarding hackfest on tuesday but haven't heard back yet. Is he the wrong person? Or just busy?
17:06 ashimema Oh really.. I got a mail back within minutes when I sent him one this morning ... He may just have missed or maybe it got marked as spam?
17:06 ashimema He's the right person I believe

20:59 tuxayo matts: «no tax on kerosene is vastly responsible for that, I think»
20:59 tuxayo Indeed, that *might* even make aviation more subsidized than rail and road infrastructure!
20:59 Gary Testing testing 123! Hi all, I have set up a Koha instance on an Amazon Virtual Machine I can connect to admin and opac fine, have added some patrons but everytime I try and add books via CSV I get a 500
21:00 tuxayo hi Gary do you have access to the log to get more details about that error 500?
21:00 Gary I am not sure how to get there, but am willing to learn
21:01 tuxayo Gary: what do you got in "/var/log/koha/" ?
21:01 tuxayo I have a directory named with the name I gave my Koha instance and all the logfiles are there
21:02 Gary I have my library in that folder
21:03 Gary Or I see the name of my library in blue
21:05 tuxayo great, when I investigate an issue I run this command:
21:05 tuxayo tail -f /var/log/koha/kohadev/*
21:05 tuxayo In my case the directory of my library is named kohadev
21:05 tuxayo This command will output any new line logged in every file. To miss nothing.
21:05 tuxayo So I let this in a terminal and then do the action that yields an error and see the new line of log that came up.
21:05 Gary ok so thats where the logs are the, do I just open it sudo nano?
21:06 Gary there are error logs for lots of things.... is plack the one I want? Sorry to be a pain
21:08 Gary ok I see thats how I open them, just no idea what Im looking for
21:10 Gary Things like this in the intranet log[proxy_http:error] [pid 2761] [client 159.223.155.224:48218] AH01097: pass request body failed to 0.0.0.0:0 (httpd-UDS) from 159$
21:10 tuxayo Gary try to CSV book addition and check out the new line that came with that
21:11 Gary in which error log?
21:11 Gary will try now
21:13 tuxayo the tail command will give you all. I think it should be plack-intranet-error.log if there is too much noise from the other files.
21:13 tuxayo "pass request body failed" is that a new line that pops when you CSV book addition?
21:14 tuxayo when you run the tail command, in this case, disregard the existing lines and focus on new ones coming when you get the error
21:14 tuxayo this should give a cleaner starting output
21:14 tuxayo tail -fn0 /var/log/koha/kohadev/*
21:17 Gary End of script output before headers: stage-marc-import.pl
21:18 Gary and then this pops up in the log file "GET /intranet/errors/500.pl HTTP/
21:18 Gary So I assume that is the error + message sent
21:19 tuxayo which Koha page do you use for importing CSV?
21:19 Gary more of it [cgi:error] [pid 2402] [client 154.73.223.199:52262] End of script output before headers: stage-marc-import.pl
21:19 Gary I used one that I had used before at school, yesterday in fact
21:20 Gary or do you mean how did i get there
21:20 tuxayo "Stage MARC records for import" and then "Manage staged MARC records" ?
21:20 Gary tools stage marc
21:20 Gary yeah but it stops when staging
21:20 Gary let me do it again
21:21 tuxayo I didn't know it worked with CSV. Because MARC isn't CSV.
21:21 tuxayo Didn't you use MARC files with your Koha at school?
21:22 Gary Yeah, its using MARCedit to convert
21:23 Gary so its a mrc file there, sorry I am not being clear
21:23 tuxayo Ok I just found this https://koha-community.org/manual/21.11/en/html/third_party_software.html?highlight=excel#importing-excel-data-into-koha
21:23 tuxayo It's indeed MARCedit ^^
21:24 Gary Ah, just seen this AH01215: Out of memory!: /usr/share/koha/intranet/cgi-bin/tools/stage-marc-import.pl
21:24 tuxayo lol
21:25 tuxayo good catch
21:25 tuxayo how large is the MARC file?
21:26 Gary 3000 records not to big???
21:26 Gary let me try with 20
21:28 Gary also did'nt work fork failed while attempting to run tools/stage-marc-import.pl as a background job: Cannot allocate memory at /usr/share/koha/intranet/cgi-bin/tools/stage-marc-import.pl line 130
21:28 tuxayo > 3000 records not to big
21:28 tuxayo I don't know how much free RAM is there. And how the process work. But yes people import much more without needed dozens of GB of RAM.
21:28 Gary I will see if I can up the memory on Amazon
21:28 tuxayo what does `free -h` says?
21:30 Gary 987m
21:30 Gary sorry free 177
21:30 Gary 737 used
21:30 tuxayo That wouldn't be a surprise it's not enough.
21:31 Gary right lets see if I can change it, so near yet so far. Thanks for your help
21:32 tuxayo Note that some Koha service might have been killed by the system due to lack of RAM. (like the background job worker used for imports!) I'm not sure it would restart on demand. So you might want to restart your Koha instance.
21:33 tuxayo https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Debian
21:33 tuxayo > Following these instructions will result in an instance of Koha and the necessary support software which together consume between 750MB - 1GB of memory at idle. If you are installing the MySQL server on the same machine as Koha, assume it is going to need another 350MB - 500MB of RAM.
21:33 Gary Looking at Amazons FAQ's I might be starting from scratch, but I would not have got to this point without your help!
21:34 tuxayo it's a rough estimate, and it's likely a bit more now since it's old info. But if you monitor you RAM carefully you might not need to spend much more than now on RAM.
21:35 tuxayo assuming 500M would cost a bit.
21:35 Gary I was trying to get this in on a 1gb free tier machine!
21:36 tuxayo > I might be starting from scratch
21:36 tuxayo it's not possible to change the RAM amount of a VM without destroying it's storage?
21:36 tuxayo ah ok
21:37 Gary Well its all a learning journey! Very impressed with Koha but beginning to wish I had no volunteered to get it going in a primary school in South Africa ;-)
21:38 tuxayo Gary: would the free tier machine have been production instance or just a test?
21:39 tuxayo To test setting up a Koha a local VM running Linux on you machine might be more convenient.
21:40 Gary I have done that and this is moving towards production.
21:42 tuxayo good, I hope you find a suitable hosting. Nice project :)
21:42 Gary Thanks very much indeed for your time
21:54 tuxayo matts: followup: IIUC it's in big part due to how oil refineries work, there is a fixed amount of hydrogen and carbon in the input crude oil.
21:54 tuxayo We produce a lot of gasoline for cars and to have an balanced output there must be something like 30% or more lighter elements like diesel and kerosene.
21:54 tuxayo Which is also why there was a shift towards diesel cars in Europe. As if it's was not hard enough to use less fossil fuel, they constrain each-other!
