00:24 tcohen bye #koha
00:40 mtompset I blink and the party starts. :)
00:41 mtompset Have a great day, #koha.
01:12 eythian      https://metacpan.org/pod/Fuckin::Lazy <-- that's useful
01:15 pianohacker ow
01:15 pianohacker now would be a good time to head out, bye all :)
05:37 cait good morning #koha
05:37 eythian hi cait
05:37 cait hi eythian
05:37 cait staying long again?
05:37 eythian not especially
05:40 cait i have to get moving
05:41 cait we have hm. annual works outing(?) today
05:42 eythian ah, christmas party :) except in July...
05:43 eythian which makes sense given you have christmas in winter, which is a crappy time to go places.
05:43 eythian You should do something about that.
05:43 cait hm duolingo wants me to translate: your bear drinks beer
05:43 eythian haha
05:44 eythian why do you even have a bear, let alone a drunk one?
05:44 cait :P
06:54 alex_a bonjour
06:55 fridolin hie all
07:35 gaetan_B hello
07:35 wahanui bonjour, gaetan_B
08:59 ashimema morning koha
09:10 gerundio morning ashimema
09:11 gerundio has anyone ran into datetime / timezone related issues in Koha?
09:39 clrh hello
09:40 clrh I am looking for works in progress or not about EDI in Koha, if someone know something ? (trying to search into ML, wiki & others)
09:41 clrh Colin tries something bug 7736 for example
09:41 huginn 04Bug http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=7736 new feature, P5 - low, ---, colin.campbell, Failed QA , Edifact QUOTE and ORDER functionality
10:02 ashimema clrh
10:03 ashimema Colin's massive EDI re-write for bug 7736 is about to be submitted..
10:03 huginn 04Bug http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=7736 new feature, P5 - low, ---, colin.campbell, Failed QA , Edifact QUOTE and ORDER functionality
10:03 ashimema it's currently in testing with a couple of customers and being iterated upon a fair bit
10:04 ashimema I 'think' most of it is up on his github repo.. but don't quote me on that.
10:04 ashimema I'm really hoping something hits that bug very soon.
10:06 clrh yep I saw github repo
10:06 clrh great ashimema thanks
10:06 clrh do you know if there are other initiatives ?
10:07 ashimema right from the horses mouth:
10:07 ashimema 'I'm documenting the parsing modules and removing dead code.. that done folk can look at it'
10:07 clrh found this https://github.com/paddyfitz/koha/tree/EDIfact_3.4.x
10:07 ashimema so it 'feels' close to me.
10:07 ashimema paddyfitz is Marc Gavillet.. he's left ptfs europe now..
10:07 ashimema Colins work is a complete re-write of marks work.. Marks work was 'horrible' to say the least ;)
10:08 ashimema It does however work at 3.4
10:08 ashimema though it puts edi files into the source tree.. doesn't work on anything but a source install and has some other issues.
10:09 ashimema Bywater did some work based on Marks earlier patch.. but are now also waiting for Colins re-write before continueing on it..
10:09 ashimema I think there are also some guys in northeastern europe looking at it?
10:09 wahanui okay, ashimema.
10:09 ashimema but I've not heard from them in ages.
10:09 ashimema that's my lot ;)
10:27 gerundio http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=12669
10:27 huginn 04Bug 12669: blocker, P5 - low, ---, koha-bugs, NEW , "Template process failed: undef error - Invalid local time for date in time zone"
11:50 jcamins i think there?
11:50 jcamins ashimena think there?
11:50 jcamins I wonder what wahanui learned 1:45 minutes ago.
12:15 ashimema ashimema think there?
12:16 ashimema you confuse me jcamins
12:18 jcamins ashimema: wahanui learned something when you said "I think there are also..."
12:18 ashimema indeed..
12:18 ashimema no ideawhat though ;)
12:18 jcamins So I wanted to know what.
12:19 jcamins ashimema: maybe if _you_ said "I think there?"
12:20 ashimema I think there?
12:23 jcamins Perplexing.
12:23 wahanui i heard perplexing was what it is!
12:23 jcamins lol
12:25 oleonard Hi #koha
12:31 ashimema hi oleonard
13:02 tcohen morning
13:02 nengard morning tcohen
13:03 nengard Just read your email - did I not register? Or was that a general note? I thought I had registered.
13:03 tcohen nengard: let me know any missing info
13:03 tcohen it was a general note, haven't checked really
13:03 tcohen but I know of some that didn't register and are attending
13:14 nengard okey dokey
13:14 nengard thanks!
13:47 matts ashimema, around ?
13:48 ashimema I am indeed.
13:48 matts hi :)
13:48 matts I'm trying to test the shibboleth patches in order the sign-off
13:49 ashimema fantastic!
13:49 matts :)
13:49 matts but I'm a bit confused about the configuration : it is both in koha-conf.xml *and* in system preferences. Why is that ?
13:50 ashimema Actually.. it's not.
13:50 ashimema we moved it from system prefs to the koha-conf..
13:51 ashimema but so you didn't lose the original attribution on the early patches we left in those early commits which ar undone by later commits ;)
13:51 ashimema or at least I hope they are.
13:51 matts hmm, actually I don't think they are
13:52 matts Or I can't find where
13:53 ashimema hmm.. looks like they're removed from view.. but not actually removed from the db updates :(
13:53 ashimema well spotted..
13:53 ashimema that needs tidying up.
13:54 matts yep, it might be confusing otherwise
13:54 ashimema certainly is confusing.. thanks for bringing my attention to it.
13:55 ashimema I'll quickly post another followup..
13:55 ashimema gonna also squash all my commits to reduce the amount of patches in there.
13:56 jcamins Gonna squash that commit right outta your branch, and send it on its way?
13:59 jcamins (squash it out, fix it out, clean it out, and send it on its waaaaaaaaayyyyyy)
13:59 ashimema lol
14:07 ashimema matts, that should be better.
14:08 ashimema using bz to apply the patches will still result in the merge conflicts in updatedatabase though as they are two different patches to maintain attribution.
14:08 ashimema henseehnse why i've got a branch on github I'm maintaining for people if they wish to just pull from there
14:08 matts okay, will try
14:09 ashimema s/henseehnse/hense
14:09 ashimema cheers matts.
14:32 fridolin bye

17:21 jcamins @later tell wizzyrea The one disadvantage of replacing your chair with exercise ball is that when you find yourself somewhere else and forced to use a chair, particularly after 28.5 hours of dancing in the previous week, your legs get sore very quickly.
17:21 huginn jcamins: The operation succeeded.
17:21 jcamins @later tell wizzyrea *an* exercise ball. Oy. I speaks good.
17:21 huginn jcamins: The operation succeeded.

18:42 rhcl @seen rangi
18:42 huginn rhcl: rangi was last seen in #koha 1 day, 17 hours, 28 minutes, and 10 seconds ago: <rangi> yeah pre release, so yep that will be 3.15.something
18:47 eternalsword anyone ever come across an issue where you have to restart the web service for koha to see the database?
18:50 jcamins eternalsword: yes, that's one of the problems with fastcgi.
18:50 jcamins If you are using Apache, then, no, I've never heard of such a thing.
18:52 eternalsword okay, yeah, I'm using nginx + starman/plack. Is there a recommended workaround?
18:53 jcamins Not to my knowledge. You could check if there's a patch on bugzilla.
18:53 jcamins Or just restart Starman every night.
18:56 eternalsword that's what I was thinking of doing. It seemed to be a daily occurrence, but I haven't been able to verify the frequency of the issue. I guess I restart it nightly and see if the problem persists.
18:57 jcamins Actually... I feel like I saw a patch which improved the check for connectivity recently.
18:58 jcamins Take a look.
19:00 oleonard Ugh. 5 hours of meetings kind of kills a day.

19:10 rhcl You know, there's a bot that interprets shortened URLs. Can't come up with the name at the moment, but I
19:10 rhcl see them on other channels
19:13 oleonard I don't find much need for shortened URLs unless I actually have to hand-type one.
19:14 rhcl I pass on to other staff members quite a few links, and for them it just seems to be a convenience.

19:55 pianohacker I'm currently trying to solve encoding issues in Z39.50 searching ;_; where did my life go wrong
19:56 * cait waves
19:57 pianohacker you would know how to fix a double-encoding issue in a perl script, right cait?
19:57 cait pianohacker: did you see the encoding page on the wiki? not sure it's helpful but maybe something to take a look
19:57 cait pianohacker: find one of the places it's encoded and remove that? ;)
19:58 pianohacker durrrr
19:58 pianohacker teaches me not to read perl's unicode documentation
19:59 cait hm?
20:00 cait pianohacker: you know about the utf-8 clean up bug, right?
20:00 cait i hope the patches make it in soon now
20:00 pianohacker cait: I was double-encoding in a complicated way... this is for Rancor's metasearch
20:00 pianohacker that was much less painful than I expected
20:01 pianohacker how are you?
20:01 cait tired :)
20:01 cait lots of walking today
20:01 cait we visited a project where they are rebuilding a monastery with medievil tools and techniques
20:02 cait it was fun :)
20:02 pianohacker cool!
20:05 cait but very wet too
20:05 cait lots of rain
20:06 rangi morning
20:07 cait morning rangi
20:10 cbrannon So, working on creating a test computer for Koha. Is it best to install Debian under a VM, or use a dedicated machine?
20:11 jcamins cbrannon: I'd use a VM so that I didn't have a server sitting mostly-unused.
20:12 pianohacker hi rangi
20:17 nengard i use a VM too
20:17 cbrannon Does a test box need to be on server hardware, or could I just use an old desktop? Doesn't really have to PERFORM. Does it?
20:18 cait cbrannon: i have my test environment on my normal laptop
20:18 cait not in a vm in my case, but a vm makes sense
20:18 cbrannon Why VM? What is the advantage?
20:21 jcamins cbrannon: if you want to do something else, you can just shut down the VM and start a new one running different servers.
20:24 jcamins And you can move the VM to a different machine if you so desire.
20:56 jcamins rangi: is "walk the talk" an NZ thing?
20:57 jcamins It sounds like a typo to me, but you've tweeted it a few times, so I think it must be right.
20:57 rangi its a shorthand way of saying if you are going to talk the talk, you should walk the walk
20:58 jcamins Interesting. I have never heard "walk the talk" anywhere else. Just "walk the walk."
21:01 * jcamins decides to blame the fact that you lot all walk around upside down, and heads off to dance class.
21:02 cait :)
21:28 wizzyrea I've heard talk the talk, but not walk the walk. walk the talk makes sense to me, even divorced from it's origins.
21:33 cbrannon I balk at your walk the talk.
21:33 cbrannon ...now I just stalk.
22:14 cait night #koha
23:15 dcook Hmm, when I heard jcamins mention "walk the talk", I immediately about the concept behind "walk the walk and talk the talk", so I guess it works
23:15 * dcook also waves
