22:33 wahanui hello, eythian
22:33 eythian hi
21:25 francharb bye all
21:10 wizzyrea oh he's gone away
21:10 wizzyrea oleonard: there are lots of things batch mod doesn't let you do
19:59 mtompset Have a great day (24 hour period), #koha cait druthb francharb
19:59 mtompset Got to run...
19:08 cait I'd think
19:08 cait while the total might be high
19:08 cait because yo will not want to add more than x at a time
19:08 cait i think adding is different
19:08 cait hm
19:08 mtompset -- bus time... need to pick up my son.
19:08 mtompset But perhaps that it too low.
19:08 mtompset I figure if they have an empty DB, they won't be adding more than 1K items for a given biblio.
19:07 mtompset Trying to think of a reasonable way to calculate a soft upper limit.
19:07 huginn 04Bug http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=10473 major, P1 - high, ---, amitddng135, In Discussion , Max length should be 2 digit for adding multiple copies in add items page
19:07 mtompset bug 10473
19:04 cait not sure about the context?
19:03 cait hm it hsould not be a hard limit I think
18:58 mtompset Okay... So 1000 is a safe upper limit of items to add for a biblio at any given time?
18:57 cait i think could be a few hundred then
18:57 cait or textbooks in a bigger university
18:56 cait it can grow to a lot when you have serials
18:56 mtompset max number of items...
18:56 mtompset What is the maximum of items for a biblio anyone has ever seen?
18:56 francharb o/ mtompset
18:56 mtompset Greetings, francharb.
18:56 mtompset greetings, cait.

18:54 oleonard Hi francharb
18:54 francharb hello
18:49 mtompset Ah.
18:48 oleonard mtompset: And as a hosted customer I don't get to run direct MySQL queries willy-nilly (which is, I'm sure, entirely proper)
18:47 mtompset oh, well that seems like a useful enhancement.
18:47 oleonard mtompset: Batch patron modification doesn't offer the option of modifying phone number at all.
18:44 mtompset Don't put empty string, put space. ... or better yet, just do it in MySQL directly. :P
18:37 oleonard Bah. Batch patron modification doesn't let me clear phone number.
18:33 huginn gmcharlt: The operation succeeded.
18:33 gmcharlt @later tell cait bug 11947 deserves quick QA
18:28 oleonard select count(*) from borrowers where phone like 'no%'; 162
18:20 mtompset Poor oleonard. :)
17:39 oleonard Dear staff member who types "NO PHONE NUMBER" into the phone number field: I hope you're haunting me from the past, not the present.
17:28 mtompset I think that is more of a tcohen question. ;)
17:21 * chris_n guess not since head has the rewrite log lines commented out

16:03 mtompset Greetings, oleonard. :)
16:02 oleonard Hi mtompset
16:01 mtompset Greetings, #koha.
14:43 kivilahtio zebra search times are absolutely minimal, like 0.03s and zebra is the one running on ssd, others on hdd's
14:38 kivilahtio rambutan: time is something I don't have :)
14:37 rocio hey cait!
14:37 kivilahtio some :)
14:36 rambutan do you have a test system you can play with?
14:36 * cait waves at rocio
14:33 kivilahtio no effect from moving from unix sockets to tcp :(
14:28 kivilahtio and it wrote maybe 110kB/s
14:28 kivilahtio I mean the disk utilization was almost 0%
14:27 kivilahtio rambutan: the disk i/o from iostat said 0%
14:27 rambutan http://www.slideshare.net/dguttierrez/optimizing-linux-servers
14:27 rambutan you might check these slides:
14:27 rambutan it deals with the scheduler, in reading right now I see that cfq may not be the best
14:26 kivilahtio +binary log forsafety
14:26 kivilahtio they have the durability counters so they can be changed before they break
14:26 kivilahtio and just running DB and Zebra on single ssd's
14:26 kivilahtio rambutan: I lost the results during a OS reinstall, but I have been thinking of breaking the ssd-array
14:25 kivilahtio rambutan: I got some crazy results and cpu usage went off the roof
14:25 kivilahtio rambutan: I did stress tests on the ssd-array as i had a gut feeling it might not work as well as expected
14:25 rambutan noop and deadline are recommended for ssd arrays
14:25 kivilahtio rambutan: whatever that means
14:24 kivilahtio rambutan: noop [deadline] cfq
14:24 kivilahtio rambutan: I am using lxc without libvirt
14:22 oleonard wahanui is trying to scare people
14:21 wahanui i think deadline is today. The more the merrier I think. I should check times.
14:21 rambutan or deadline?
14:20 rambutan does "cat /sys/block/sda/queue/scheduler" show noop?
14:17 rambutan you migh also watch virt-top if you don't already
14:17 kivilahtio rambutan: thanks! I have almost reconfigured so lets see!
14:13 rambutan you might ask on #virt (OFTC). Nobody seems to talk there, but they have a lot of people logged on.
14:02 kivilahtio jcamins: thanks for the tip, I'll try without bind mounitng
14:02 kivilahtio apache processes should be idle? if accessing sockets is really slow
14:01 kivilahtio but it doesnt explain the 100% CPU time on apache processes
13:59 jcamins Okay, that's what I thought you were saying. 15s under heavy load would be fine.
13:59 kivilahtio when under heavy load it is more then 45s
13:59 kivilahtio under zero load
13:59 jcamins Wait, it's 15s when under heavy load?
13:59 kivilahtio oh noes
13:59 kivilahtio but when I run stress tests, all I get is 100% cpu load for the search pages
13:59 jcamins kivilahtio: https://github.com/dotcloud/docker/issues/2891
13:58 kivilahtio jcamins: like this http://pastebin.com/3ScndBtW
13:56 kivilahtio jcamins: and then bind mount those directories
13:56 kivilahtio jcamins: so I prepared small 1GB partitions to share sockets
13:55 kivilahtio jcamins: using shared mounts
13:55 jcamins kivilahtio: you have lxc communicating via domain socket? I didn't know that was possible.
13:55 kivilahtio so why is the search time 3x slower :)
13:55 kivilahtio beats this server
13:54 kivilahtio the desktop is on KVM
13:54 rambutan that stuff should all work well together on the specs you have
13:54 kivilahtio should be super fast
13:54 kivilahtio all communicates via unix sockets
13:54 kivilahtio zebra + opac + staff_cleint + mariadb
13:54 kivilahtio rambutan: I am using lxc with koha separated to distinct containers
13:54 kivilahtio I agree
13:53 rambutan definitely. if it's not running well there's a problem somewhere
13:53 kivilahtio rambutan: model name : Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2690 0 @ 2.90GHz
13:53 kivilahtio I think we should have enough juice to run our library
13:53 rambutan what cpu do you have?
13:53 kivilahtio also 2x8core with hyperthreading so ubuntu says 32 cores :D
13:53 kivilahtio might have to break the raid on them
13:53 kivilahtio which btw work quite poorly
13:52 kivilahtio rambutan: RAID1 ssd's on HP Raid controller
13:52 rambutan reallly?
13:52 kivilahtio rambutan: 128GB
13:52 rambutan how much memory do you have?
13:52 kivilahtio liw: but I can try try try. Heippatirallaa vaan
13:51 liw kivilahtio, also, heippatirallaa
13:51 kivilahtio liw: so true :) I don't know enough
13:51 liw whether something is hard or easy depends on what you know, it's not a universal absolute
13:51 kivilahtio but on my desktop, the same search takes 4s
13:51 kivilahtio rambutan: top says that apache processes CPUs run at 100% when doing searches. Disk I/O is at ~0%, zebra and mysql at very low consumpiton. Power saving mode was on, thus CPU'h clocked to 1200MHz, now I managed to disable power saving and CPUs clock at 2900 MHz, but the difference in search time is neglible. Dropped from 15s to 10s.
13:51 rambutan maybe Windows servers, but Linux is normally a piece of pie.
13:48 kivilahtio rambutan: I would call it enigmatic
13:48 rambutan well, yes, normally
13:48 kivilahtio rambutan: do you find it easy?
13:48 kivilahtio rambutan: hard :)
13:47 rambutan hard?
13:41 kivilahtio also configuring servers is hard :)
13:35 kivilahtio searching for a keyword "koira" is 3x faster on AMD Bulldozer than on Intel Xeon
13:34 kivilahtio which is kinda lame
13:34 kivilahtio our desktops perform better than our server
