Time Nick Message 05:38 mayank During importing records in the koha I am getting multiple iteams 05:39 mayank this is happening for every book what should I do to make it single entry? 07:59 * cait waves 13:53 embiopterid Hey all. I've noticed that a z39.50 search often seems to fail to retrieve records even when they definitely exist on the server. For example, I can find it on the library of congress website, download and import it manually, but a z39.50 search fails to find it through the library of congress even when I use the exact call number. 13:54 embiopterid Am I missing something? (I guess that's pretty likely actually) 14:05 jcamins embiopterid: is this a problem for *all* searches? 14:06 jcamins (all Z39.50 searches) 14:09 jcamins My guess would be that call number isn't included in the keyword index for Z39.50. 14:09 jcamins Unless no searches to LC are working, in which case my guess would be that you have a firewall. 14:48 embiopterid oh, sorry, was working. No it is not a problem for all searches. 14:49 embiopterid But it is pretty strange, when I download the marc record manually all the information I got from the front-matter or wherever I got it is there and usually correct. 14:50 embiopterid does z39.50 require that I open ports coming into the firewall? I'm not a z39 server or anything. 14:51 jcamins No, but lots of firewalls block the ports outgoing. 14:51 jcamins I don't know what the problem is, then. 14:53 embiopterid Well, that's not the case here. Thanks. I was thinking I could maybe just add more z39 servers, but still if it's in the library of congress on-line it should come up in a z39 search shouldn't it? 14:53 jcamins Probably. 14:53 embiopterid Why wouldn't it? Don't they run off the same database? 14:53 jcamins But it's possible that is not an absolute rule, or, as I said, that you're searching fields that aren't indexed in the field you're searching. 14:53 jcamins No idea. 14:53 * jcamins doesn't work for the library of congress. 14:54 embiopterid Oh, ya, of course :) 14:55 embiopterid Well, that's what I'm saying, the actual record does have that information in it. Wouldn't that mean it's indexed? 14:55 jcamins No. 14:55 jcamins Not necessarily. 14:55 jcamins You wouldn't expect to be able to enter an author's name in the title field, after all, and keyword is more or less the same. 14:56 embiopterid Oh. Ok, well I guess I'll just add more servers then. Probly not a real problem since it works with most things. 14:56 jcamins You might try searching by something different for those books. 14:56 jcamins For example, title instead of LCCN/ISBN/whatever. 14:57 embiopterid Oh ya, I did that already...all kinds of stuff, title, author, isbns, call numbers, whatever I could find. 14:57 jcamins In that case, the record is probably just suppressed from Z39.50 for some reason. 14:57 embiopterid Huh. weak. 14:59 embiopterid Hey thanks for your help. I would have tried to figure out what was wrong with my system for hours, but I guess it's just the servers. I don't have that many yet...I figured the library of congress and some universities would probably be overkill by itself. 20:41 wizzyrea hi 20:51 cait hi wizzyrea :) 21:05 rangi yay fixed my workstation 21:06 cait yay congrats :) 21:09 ibeardslee what had you done to it? 21:11 rangi no idea, grub had managed to get itslef utterly confused 21:11 rangi was mounting all the partitions in weird places 21:11 rangi sorted now 21:11 rangi it most likely was busted for ages, i just hadnt rebooted in 100+ days 21:20 rangi laptop is still totally dead tho 21:21 cait do you know why? 21:21 rangi yeah i think powersupply 21:21 cait ah 21:21 cait but you want a new one, not going to try and fix? 21:21 rangi the keys started wigging out during the academy too, 21:21 cait ah 21:21 rangi i had 4 keys mapped to others 21:21 rangi so probably just get a new one 21:22 cait did you order a new one yet? 21:22 rangi nope 21:24 rangi on the upside, i now have a static ip :) 21:24 cait :) 21:34 mtj hey peeps 21:34 cait hi mtj :) 21:35 mtj meh, sorry to hear about your lappy rangi :/ 21:35 mtj hi cait :p 21:36 rangi gmcharlt: (and others) http://blogs.perl.org/users/ovid/2014/02/using-dbixclassschemaloader-to-find-design-flaws.html 21:38 mtj i recently put an SSD drive in my lappy, its still quite a novelty :) 21:39 mtj …and now 16GB ram too 21:40 mtj has made a big difference :) 21:42 mtj i think i now have more RAM, than i currently need (1st time ever) 21:43 cjh_ rangi: really cute how it determines that "person" is the singular of "people" 21:46 rangi *nod* 21:46 mtj looks like an impressive big-deal change 21:54 cait @wunder Konstanz 21:54 huginn` cait: The current temperature in Taegerwilen, Taegerwilen, Germany is 0.6°C (10:50 PM CET on February 23, 2014).
