18:28 gmcharlt congratulations to the 227th individual to have a patch accepted into master, Doug Kingston!

18:44 cait what are the colors?
18:44 wahanui the colors are less jarring, its more generally 'soothing' , i think...
18:44 rangi scroll down
18:44 rangi see the blocker
18:44 rangi its the severity
18:44 cait aah
18:44 cait :)
18:44 rangi you can spot blockers super easy :)
18:45 cait what happens if I click?
18:45 rangi you end up at bugzilla
18:45 cait didn't want to break something :)
18:45 rangi my next thing is to make a click claim it
18:45 rangi to say 'im looking at this'
18:45 rangi and then you can release it .. or something
18:45 rangi i dunno havent thought that far :)
18:45 cait that sounds cool
18:46 cait would be a nice tool for bug squashing days :)
18:46 gmcharlt a short auto-expiration would be better, my gut says
18:46 rangi gmcharlt: good point
18:46 cait but not too short maybe
18:46 gmcharlt i.e., after a day or two
18:46 rangi yeah makes sense
18:46 cait but also that you can release it manually if you want to
18:46 rangi yep
18:47 rangi im thinking of doing the same for signed off
18:47 rangi so the qa team can use it
18:47 cait very cool
18:48 rangi im planning to use angular.js to do it .. when i figure out how to
18:48 rangi ;)
18:48 gmcharlt rangi: you might want to talk to berick for a quick intro
18:49 gmcharlt angular is what he's been using for the prototype of the Evergreen web-based staff interface
18:51 rangi oh cool i will do
18:51 rangi i think we use it a bunch at work too
18:51 rangi but the frontend people are always flat out
18:55 dpk1 gmcharlt: good morning. Do you have time for a quick chat about 11078 and some of the default file paths set up in rewrite-config.PL?
18:55 huginn New commit(s) kohagit: Bug 11040: DBRev 3.15.00.001 <http://git.koha-community.org/gitweb/?p=koha.git;a=commitdiff;h=17b78abc7fe6a66ab48a01ac4a7be8e88ad165fc> / Bug 11040: Add CircAutoPrintQuickSlip option to print regular slip <http://git.koha-community.org/gitweb/?p=koha.git;a=commitdiff;h=2131c78618bb8851bc37bc99f20fa1aaa02c3124>
18:56 gmcharlt congratulations to the 228th person to have a patch pushed, Peggy Thrasher!
18:57 gmcharlt dpk1: rereading the patches now
18:59 cait yay peggy!
18:59 cait         peggy++
19:00 dpk1 peggy++ for the her first commit!
19:02 dpk1 We are inconsistent with how we treat /var directories in rebuild-config.PL. Some get prefixed with $prefix and others do not. The default for prefix is /usr, and /usr/var/… is just wrong.
19:02 rangi        peggy++
19:02 gmcharlt dpk1: rewrite-config.PL should be looked at in isolation
19:03 gmcharlt dpk1: look at the clause starting at line 1281 of Makefile.PL
19:03 dpk1 Looking...
19:04 gmcharlt that's where one specifies for a FHS(-ish?) installation that some of the paths are rooted at / instead of the installation base of (for that install mode) /usr/share/koha
19:06 gmcharlt upshot -- the patch series needs to also include an update of Makefile.PL
19:06 rangi http://dashboard.koha-community.org/ <-- peggy and doug are on the new devs section
19:07 dpk1 OK. Will look at this today. Where do you expect var/lock to land in each of the three modes?
19:07 gmcharlt dpk1: by the way -- any comments that you might care to make about "Koha's installation scripts are funky, gentlefolk!" can be assumed ;)
19:08 dpk1 A twisty maze of passages, all different.

19:09 cait good morning kathryn :)
19:09 kathryn hello cait :)
19:09 cait long time since i last caught you logging in!
19:09 jenkins_koha Starting build #236 for job master_maria (previous build: SUCCESS)
19:09 kathryn a wee while since I restarted ;)
19:10 gmcharlt     dpk1: standard == /var/ock/koha; single = $basedir/$packaeg/var/lock/koha; dev = $basedir/$package/var/lock/koha
19:10 gmcharlt dpk1: IOW, similar to how ZEBRA_LOCK_DIR is handled
19:10 cait kathryn: that would explain it :)
19:10 dpk1 OK. Very useful. Thanks.
19:19 dpk1 So, you can't make single mode /var/lock/koha because that directory is not left in a mode where other (non-root) users can write it. Its mode 755 owner root from the koha startup scripts. The per site subdirectories are properly owned. Hence my putting the lockfiles in /var/lock directly with appropriate naming to ensure no collisions. Ditto for standard
19:20 dpk1 I tried to use /var/lock/koha initially and discovered that. Also you are relying on that directory being created, which is perhaps save, but the startup scripts would need to do it since /var/lock is often in tmpfs and disappears on a reboot.
19:21 dpk1 The standards are silent on the use of subdirectories of /var/lock
19:22 dpk1 The only think you can really count on is that /var/lock will exist and it will be mode 1777 (t bit set)
19:32 dpk1 gmcharlt: thoughts?
19:32 gmcharlt the Debian packages do manage ensuring the creation of subdirs under /var/lock, specifically /var/lock/koha/$site
19:33 dpk1 yes, handled in koha-common I believe
19:33 gmcharlt single mode, by the way, is for the use case where a non-root users on a old-style webhost need to stick /everything/ under their home directory
19:33 dpk1 but other installations can't count on that.
19:33 gmcharlt I'm not sure whether anybody uses single mode nowadays, though
19:33 dpk1 But the can still write in /var/lock.
19:34 dpk1 We could stick locks in /tmp/… Don't mind sticking them in $destdir/var/lock in that case though.
19:35 gmcharlt actually, standard mode *can* count on /var/lock/koha being created -- at least for meaningful use by rebuild_zebra
19:35 dpk1 standard in particular has me concerned though. I also like the idea of landing on a tmpfs when available because it self-cleans.
19:36 gmcharlt koha-zebra-ctl.sh, the startup script for Zebra that we ship, will create the appropriate /var/run and /var/lock subdirs
19:39 dpk1 This can only be done at rc.d time (as root, and we could create a update lockdir at the same time). It would have to be done in parallel since our script leaves /var/log/koha and /var/run/koha in mod 755 owned by root.
19:39 dpk1 Only the subdirs of those are writable by koha tasks (like rebuild-zebra.pl)
19:42 dpk1 So I have a choice of adding my lockfile to /var/lock/koha/zebradb (or /var/lock/koha/<site>/zebradb for packages) or creating a peer directory just for these lock files. Preference?
19:44 gmcharlt peer directory
19:44 dpk1 Consider it done. Will hopefully send out the patch later today. Need to do some domestic tasks now…
19:44 gmcharlt cheers
19:45 dpk1 A few minutes on IRC is oh so productive.
19:45 dpk1 Dialogue is needed to get to resolution.
