23:01 joels68 Time to go home. Talk to you later.
22:59 joels68 Depending on security issue, I have server space here. I will see if it is difficult to secure.
22:57 cait but might get a server sometime...
22:57 cait i have some webspace somewhere
22:56 joels68 Cait are you running it on a local server?
22:55 cait i use it for my files, the new version looks promising
22:53 joels68 I'll take a closer look at ownCloud later tonight. Looks promising.
22:48 jenkins_koha Project master_maria build #210: UNSTABLE in 48 min: http://jenkins.koha-community.org/job/master_maria/210/
22:36 joels68 Yeah, I mean.
22:36 joels68 Yeach, I suppose the snippets should be in black and jsut a different fonr.
22:35 joels68 It's a first attempt to get some definitive documents available for everyone, rather than searching for bits here and there.
22:33 cait and better galleries yay
22:33 rangi apart from the code snippets, its good
22:33 joels68 Good, bad, or ugly?
22:32 rangi cool
22:32 joels68 It's not finished yet, but is intended to be an easy to follow text for installing Koha from packages.
22:32 cait oooh nice
22:32 cait need to update then :)
22:32 rangi we could have one for koha people to use
22:31 cait ooh doesit?
22:31 rangi http://owncloud.org/six/
22:31 rangi now owncloud supports document editing
22:29 joels68 Here's an example of just copying info from various files and combining it and formatting it for easy reading: http://www.plumcreeklibrary.org/Debian_packages_Koha.pdf
22:19 joels68 Code snippets in a different font than explanatory text, just like you see in printed books.
22:16 eythian I assume by "font changes" you mean "styles used correctly", right :)
22:15 jcamins Track changes on digital files is good too, though.
22:15 jcamins joels68: hardcopy.
22:15 joels68 The docs I am working on now are in .docx format, with font changes for code snippets and colors to help keep sections distinct from one another and easier to read.
22:13 joels68 The reason I ask is that I'm taking text from a variety of sources and combining them into one reference docwith typography additions to make them easier to read.
22:13 eythian A wiki page is often good.
22:13 eythian It depends on the context.
22:12 joels68 What is the perferred document format for passing docs around for proofreading, coments, etc.
22:08 nengard but i do like having it all in one place to easily do a find on page for specific syntax I've used in the past :)
22:07 nengard yes it does
22:07 cait the sql page takes quite a bit to load now :)
22:07 nengard yup :)
22:07 cait nengard: we can wat until it gets fuller and then figure out something
22:06 nengard eythian i like that idea - cait i'd rather not have to create a page for each long snippet if we can avoid it - some people have a very hard time adding pages
22:03 huginn gmcharlt: The operation succeeded.
22:03 gmcharlt @later tell bgkriegel does it make any particular difference to you whether 3.14.x gets branched tomorrow or on Wednesday?

21:53 cait we also could put longer blocks on separate pages and link
21:53 eythian so you click to expand the one you want.
21:52 eythian maybe there is/could be added a wiki thing that allows blocks to be collapsed by default
21:51 nengard I see it getting a lot longer than the other libraries :) but what the heck :)

20:19 magnuse ooh so it boils down to a quetion of who of you two i like the best? ;-)
20:17 jcamins cait prefers git + dev install.
20:17 jcamins magnuse: I'd recommend gitify to anyone doing it.
20:16 magnuse what's the preferred method for setting up dev installation these days? package install + gitify, or plain old git clone + dev install?
20:06 vfernandes and how about the first link I added here?
20:05 oleonard As that page on the wiki says, "Please feel free to list your demo here as long as you provide public access to at least the OPAC and it is running a version of Koha that can be freely obtained by anybody without restriction. "
20:01 vfernandes oleonard: i think that the company will agree to create an account and "open" the demo to everyone... could I add an entry on the wiki?
19:58 jcamins But in terms of ILS performance, relational vs non-relational is probably not a big factor.
19:57 druthb correct, rambutan.
19:57 jcamins Yeah, NoSQL would work fine with an ILS.
19:56 rambutan I seem to recall that Unicorn ran on some flat file database too, in addition to Oracle. druthb?
19:56 vfernandes hummm ok :)
19:56 oleonard That seems like something that belongs on your company's site
19:55 oleonard I would say no, but that's just my opinion.
19:55 vfernandes oleonard it's possible to add a entry and put user and password on request?
19:55 rambutan well, I was just thinking that a nonsql db would be perfectly appropriate for an ILS
19:55 oleonard vfernandes: But it's not for promoting your company, it's for providing clean demos for testing
19:54 oleonard vfernandes: You could start by adding it here: http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Koha_Demo_Databases
19:54 jcamins There is no built-in normalization. The data is basically stored in a row-based fashion with additional indexes basically set up as pointers.
19:53 vfernandes http://koha-community.org/demo/
19:53 vfernandes How to add a company and a Koha demo to this page?
19:53 jcamins Or, rather... yeah, if we told it to.
19:52 jcamins Nope.
19:52 rambutan jcamins: but the db does, surely?
19:52 rambutan I rather suspect a non-relational db would be much smaller too. Having tables and the overhead take sup some room
19:52 jcamins We don't really normalize patron information.
19:52 jcamins that's not true.
19:52 jcamins Well...
19:52 jcamins We just do, in this case.
19:52 jcamins Not necessarily.
19:51 rambutan right, a relatonal db has to perform normalization
19:51 jcamins In the case of patrons, basically the only benefit you're getting is faster access because it's denormalized.
19:49 rambutan so my idle thought is that a hierarchical db, like mongodb, should be, if nothing else, much quicker than a relational database
19:48 rambutan the patron can go many times, and on each visit there can be many procedures (checkout books, pick up literature, attend a program)
19:48 jcamins rambutan: depends on the organization of the consortium. You could also have a many-to-many.
19:47 rambutan i.e., an entity, a "patron" goes to a library (an encounter) and a procedure happens (checkout book)
19:47 rambutan Would it be fair to say that a library has a one-to-many relationship with patrons?

18:02 tcohen it might serve as an experiment, just to see if it solves your problem
18:02 tcohen is not optimal in several ways, but it should work for caching the tz

17:33 vfernandes Time Zone Warnings: Determining the local time zone for a system can be slow. If $ENV{TZ} is not set, it may involve reading a number of files in /etc or elsewhere. If you know that the local time zone won't change while your code is running, and you need to make many objects for the local time zone, it is strongly recommended that you retrieve the local time zone once and cache it
17:32 vfernandes the problem is with DateTime->new and Time Zone Warnings

17:00 oleonard Archive.org's Wayback machine is a national treasure.

16:59 jcamins oleonard: perfect.

16:53 jcamins Well... making it into a link is fine. Just don't make it the only link.
16:52 jcamins When the book is called "A", the patron will overlook the link. Repeatedly.
16:52 jcamins Making the title of a book in the results screen into a link to the details page might sound like a good idea, but it isn't.

16:12 vfernandes CanBookBeIssued should take this long to run
16:11 kf i was just looking for the other option
16:11 kf because i can't help when he does it that way, but i will also point it out
16:11 vfernandes my problem is on method canBookBeIssued
16:11 kf because you can't set up the qa tools easily
16:11 kf because the permissions drive me nuts.
16:10 jcamins That's well-documented, and easy to use.
16:10 jcamins Why don't you want to use gitify, though?
16:10 jcamins Basically you just choose "dev" instead of "standard," and otherwise the installation process is the same.
16:08 wahanui git is http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Version_Control_Using_Git
16:08 jcamins git?
16:08 jcamins Yes, that's wrong.
16:08 kf aren't those paths standard install???
16:07 kf KOHA_CONF=/etc/koha/koha-conf.xml KOHA_PATH=/usr/share/koha PERL5LIB=/usr/share/koha/lib
16:07 kf For a recommended git installation confirm these lines are in the file:
16:07 kf *sigh*
16:07 jcamins I don't even know what the title means.
16:07 jcamins It was just "clone the repo"... "follow INSTALL.debian"... "here's how to do development-y things with Koha."
16:06 jcamins My page was mostly about git, though.
16:06 kf i need a dev, not a production system
16:06 kf i think
16:06 kf hm yeah, but it doesn't tell you git
16:06 jcamins Mostly you just follow INSTALL.debian, though.
16:06 kf jcamins: boo :(
16:06 kf maybe
16:06 kf http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Koha_on_ubuntu_-_tarball#Configure_Koha < that doesn't look too horrible
16:05 jcamins kf: I had written a page, but it's gone.
16:05 kf jcamins: aren't you glad we don't have stop words now? ;)
16:04 kf run the makefile?
16:04 kf kohaclone
16:04 jcamins I have a book entitled _A_.
16:04 kf what aboutt he oldfashioned way...
16:04 kf ah ok, so this is more in the direction of what gitify does i think
16:03 jcamins That's because git is in part 2: http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Koha_Dev_Env_Setup
16:03 kf we shoudl really make this easier to find...
16:03 tcohen wrong article
16:03 tcohen no git
16:03 kf no git
16:03 kf n git
16:03 kf it does not look right
16:02 tcohen vfernandes: i cannot help you on that right now, but maybe later i'll come back
16:02 kf does that look right to you? i have no idea if the network setup part makes sense
16:01 tcohen http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Setting_Up_Koha_in_Virtual_Environment_%2B_Using_That_as_a_Development_Environment
16:01 vfernandes what could be taking so long in the script?
16:01 jcamins Why don't you want to use gitify?
16:01 jcamins I wonder if someone replaced it with something else.
16:01 kf me neither :(
16:01 jcamins I don't see it, though.
16:00 kf i hope there is another :)
16:00 jcamins I wrote a "how to get started developing" page ages ago.
16:00 kf good
16:00 jcamins No.
16:00 kf jcamins: did you mean this one? http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Koha_on_ubuntu_-_git
16:00 vfernandes tcohen: i've added some log to circulation.pl and the script it's taking more than 30s to run
15:59 kf and ... failing
15:59 kf trying to locate it
15:59 jcamins kf: there's a page.
15:57 kf one of our librries is interested in having a go sending patches :)
15:57 kf so any ideas for dev environment setups?
15:57 kf he is good with things like that :)
15:57 kf i won't and I know
15:56 kf            Joubu++
15:55 tcohen don't ask him, he just will
15:55 kf oki :)
15:55 tcohen kf: bgkriegel will send that email
15:55 tcohen vfernandes: i'm thinking. I'd first grab a db dump and try this on a dev server
15:55 kf tcohen: not trying to put pressure on you, but i will stop asking when i know you will send an email or something :) just trying to get it off my list ;)
15:54 vfernandes what can I do now?
15:54 kf hm do we have good instructions on how to set up a dev environment withtout gitify?
15:53 tcohen is not another .js problem
15:53 tcohen and the one that takes most of the time
15:52 vfernandes circulation.pl is the script being envoked
15:52 tcohen what script is guilty of that vfernandes?
15:52 tcohen right now i'm putting pressure on our IT people so they make a decision on rebooting our private cloud
15:51 vfernandes i've turned on firebug to see the time it took in one checkout... 34.2s
15:51 tcohen of course
15:51 kf tcohen: can you keep us updated about the translation server/the planned restart?
15:49 wahanui hmmm... the answer is always go back to sleep or 42
15:49 tcohen what is the answer?
15:49 vfernandes no queries logged when checking out this time
15:47 wahanui it has been said that another one is moving the box with a patrons loans, holds etc to the top of the "patron details" page. They need that information all the time and have to scroll to see it.
15:47 tcohen another one?
15:45 vfernandes no!
15:45 vfernandes yes
15:45 tcohen and the same slow query?
15:44 vfernandes with patron messaging to checkouts off it takes the same amount of time
15:44 wahanui i think the question is "What is the meaning of life, the universe and everything?"
15:44 kf what is the question?
15:43 kf hm? sorry, have not been reading
15:43 vfernandes i've removed patron messaging to the patron
15:43 tcohen hmm, not sure, kf?
15:42 vfernandes which is the best way to do that?
15:42 tcohen can you try disabling sending a message on checkout?
15:42 tcohen so, there's network latency (hence my question on SMTP) and CPU cycles
15:41 vfernandes the message_queue has 258121 rows
15:41 tcohen 1.26 is too much, but not *that* much
15:40 vfernandes no... local SMTP
15:40 tcohen do u have set Sendmail.pm to use an external SMTP server?
15:39 vfernandes it took 1.26s to run and it's a select from message queue
15:39 tcohen use paste.koha-community.org
15:39 vfernandes tcohen: i've reduced the slow time to 1s and when doing a checkout only one query appeared on the log
15:37 tcohen i'd launch the network profiler on chrome and see what is having the page on hold
15:36 tcohen so the problem is more a networking one
15:36 vfernandes yes
15:36 tcohen have you tried a new checkout?
15:35 vfernandes tcohen: slow queries log is clean
15:31 tcohen yes
15:30 vfernandes should be under mysqld?
15:30 vfernandes ok let me put those lines
15:29 tcohen you might as well try this on a test sever
15:29 tcohen just add those two lines
15:28 tcohen i wouldn't touch anything
15:28 vfernandes should I uncommented that?
15:27 vfernandes *my.cnf
15:27 vfernandes my.conf has commented lines to InnoDB tables
15:27 tcohen (10'' > 1'')
15:27 tcohen you could even add long_query_time = 1
15:27 tcohen yes
15:26 vfernandes Koha BD is InnoBD?
15:26 tcohen so you can be sure which HTTP request is taking most of the time
15:26 tcohen also, try enabling the browser's builtin network profiler
15:25 tcohen in which queries that take more than 10 secs will be logged
15:25 tcohen it will generate a file /var/lib/mysql/slow_queries.log
15:24 tcohen to log slow queries
15:24 tcohen vfernandes: you might want to add log-slow-queries in your mysqld section (in my.cnf)
15:24 vfernandes when I hit the button on the interface, the log on koha_access only appears +- 30s later
15:23 vfernandes it takes almost 30s to do a checkout
15:21 vfernandes 3.12
15:21 wahanui hmmm... version is always noted in a comment on top
15:21 oleonard What version?
15:21 vfernandes no errors
15:20 vfernandes renew and check in are quick but checking out takes to long
15:20 tcohen errors in the logs?
15:20 vfernandes on one of my Koha installation checking out it's too slow
15:20 tcohen yes
15:20 vfernandes can anyone help me with one thing?
15:12 wahanui gitify is at https://github.com/mkfifo/koha-gitify
15:12 kf gitify?
15:12 kf gitify
15:06 rambutan hi oleonard

14:33 tcohen ^^^^magnuse, kf
14:33 tcohen because it involves a couple hundred servers
14:33 tcohen so our sysadmins are planning WHEN to do it
14:32 tcohen we have a problem in a Storage Server, it takes 4 hours to reboot the whole cloud
14:26 huginn magnuse: The operation succeeded.
14:26 magnuse @later tell bgkriegel: you might want to update http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Website_Administration#translate.koha-community.org ;-)
14:26 magnuse the wiki should be updated then :-)
14:26 magnuse ah, ok
14:25 kf guess we have to wait
14:25 kf he reported to the mailing list - it's a server problem in the data center
14:25 kf bgkriegel runs it
14:22 magnuse fredericd: around?

12:17 kf forget kivilahtio
12:15 wahanui i heard interesting was sometimes good and sometimes bad
12:15 kivilahtio interesting
12:15 wahanui tcohen, I didn't have anything matching kivilahtio is running 3.4
12:15 tcohen wahanui: forget kivilahtio is running 3.4
12:14 wahanui rumour has it interesting is sometimes good and sometimes bad
12:14 kivilahtio interesting
12:14 wahanui ...but kivilahtio is running 3.4...
12:14 tcohen wahanui: kivilahtio is testing master
12:14 kivilahtio we are testing master
12:13 wahanui tcohen: I forgot that
12:13 tcohen wahanui: forget that
12:13 kivilahtio how do I change that?
12:13 kivilahtio thats not true
12:13 wahanui kivilahtio is running 3.4

11:55 kivilahtio wow we are facing cookie exhaustion here
11:22 marcelr       Joubu++ #qa 9788
11:11 vfernandes maybe I can "remove" the links using javascript
11:11 vfernandes :/
10:51 kf if you can add and modify, you can also delete
10:50 kf hm curently i think the permissions there are not so detailed
10:47 vfernandes it's possible to set removing records permissions only to some users?
10:46 vfernandes hello :)
10:08 kf good morning #koha :)
07:45 wahanui hi, reiveune
07:45 reiveune hello
07:42 cait good morning and bbl :)

01:23 huginn 04Bug http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=11196 major, P1 - high, ---, gmcharlt, Needs Signoff , SearchEngine pref not in sysprefs.sql
01:23 eythian btw bug 11196 solves two errors being logged for every search request. We were seeing 10-20,000 of these errors per day. The workaround is to go and explicitly save the syspref to put the value in the db.
01:16 mrx thank you, much appreciated
01:05 jcamins It's something like insert_ordered or insert_grouped, or something.
01:05 mrx thanks
01:04 jcamins Take a look at the MARC::Record POD.
01:03 mrx Oh ok, actually want to update already harvested records but if a field doesn't exist, how to add it in order?
01:01 jcamins mrx: you should not be using ModBiblioMarc directly. See the comments.
00:59 eythian because if so, there are functions with that to add things in order.
00:59 eythian are you building the record using the MARC::Record and related tools?
00:57 mrx Hi everyone, I'm using C4::Biblio::ModBiblioMarc and trying to add a field 003 but it is getting appended as last field. Is there a way to enter a new field in the correct order?
00:57 rambuten I need to go acquire some hot tea.
00:55 rambuten OK, got it. The miasma of incadescent plasma was cranked up yesterday and the resulting death rays gave you an IR/UV inflamation of the skin and it's still burning.
00:54 PSC hahaha - oh ok - was trying to think of how to politely phrase "physics/IT nerd" ;)
00:52 jcamins PSC: I think rambuten meant that he's never seen such a thing. :P
00:50 PSC my = me - sorry
00:49 PSC Rambuten - it's what my partners "I hate going outside lock my in my dark room with my screen!" friend calls the sun :)
00:43 rambuten PSC: I didn't understand your reference to the "day star". What's that?
00:35 PSC And all the tomatoes!
00:31 rambuten Hey, you'll get all the credit!
00:30 PSC Will do Rambuten - lots of interest in it actually, but it's a little bit of reluctance from my end given the "newness" of it. I'm not sure I'm comfy in the pioneer role!
00:30 rambuten PSC: I'm guessing your project, and experiences with it, will be of interest to others. Plz feel free to keep us posted on your progress.
00:29 PSC quick fingers sorry - it's nice here (ADL) today, but I'm too scared to go out - got bitten by the day star yesterday and it's all a bit stingy
00:28 PSC it
00:26 wahanui okay, eythian.
00:26 eythian wahanui, the sun is also a miasma of incandescent plasma.
00:26 wahanui ...but sun is shining again - life is good!...
00:26 eythian wahanui: the sun is a miasma of incandescent plasma.

00:07 BobB Hi PSC :)
00:06 PSC Hi everyone - I'm just sticking my nose in to say g'day. Am working with BobB and his team to develop an "all e" library - no books, just pdfs, audio files, MP4 etc, for a specialist library. I'm a total Koha noob, so you might see me in here with "well D'UH!" type questions
