00:01 dcook How was the PLWA conference, rangi?
00:01 dcook Saw a few pro Koha tweets the other day :)
00:03 rangi pretty good, short conference, just a one day one but pretty good
00:03 rangi its always hard to know libraries move so slow
00:03 dcook Mmm very true
00:04 dcook I had a chat to a librarian about that on Friday actually. She was saying how it's taken a year to even get to the point of deciding to maybe make a decision
00:04 wizzyrea the seeds you planted will sprout in a few months/years
00:05 rangi *nod*
00:05 rangi ive had ones take 6
00:05 rangi years
00:05 rangi thats the longest :)
00:05 dcook Wow...
00:05 dcook Well, as wizzyrea has said, it will happen eventually :)
00:07 dcook Hmm, I just had a thought
00:08 dcook I've been thinking about proposing some sort of online class to UBC relating to Koha, programming, open source, etc (even though I don't have the time to teach), but...maybe some sort of online workshop would be better
00:08 dcook Maybe just something where I show people how they can edit templates and then maybe some back-end scripts. Just to whet their appetites...
00:08 rangi koustabha wanted to start that
00:08 rangi academy.koha-community.org
00:08 rangi basically we could run up a moodle
00:09 rangi and then it just needs content, content is where it fell down
00:09 dcook Hmm, that page isn't coming up
00:09 dcook Hmm, what kind of content?
00:09 rangi yep, i turned it off again there was no content
00:09 rangi workshops
00:09 rangi tests
00:09 dcook ahh
00:09 rangi etc
00:09 dcook Tutorials?
00:09 rangi yup
00:09 * dcook loves this idea
00:10 rangi it does need someone to set it up/ populate/maintain etc
00:10 rangi and that someone cant be me :)
00:10 rangi but i can totally point a domain at it :)
00:10 dcook Ideally, I would love something like TryRuby (http://tryruby.org/levels/1/challenges/0), but I'm not sure how that would work
00:11 dcook You are only one person after all ;)
00:12 dcook Hmm, I'll keep this in mind. I keep trying to figure out ways to get other people involved in Koha. Even if it's not something they use long-term, I think it'll help a lot of people, especially library students and librarians break out of the concept that they have to be consumers rather than producers
00:12 wizzyrea ^^ a noble goal
00:13 dcook Thanks, wizzyrea :)
00:14 dcook I suppose I was thinking about an online class, because then folks could get academic credit for it, which helps with the whole "how am I supposed to learn anything when I'm already bombarded by classes, future job angst, paying my rent, etc etc"
00:14 rangi you could totally have librarians writing tutorials/tests
00:14 rangi yep moodle is designed precisely to do that
00:14 rangi online classes
00:14 wizzyrea it's like the foss version of blackboard
00:14 dcook writing tutorials/tests?
00:14 wizzyrea but cooler cuz it's foss
00:14 dcook Mmm, I've heard of a few people using it
00:14 wizzyrea tons of folks use moodle.
00:14 wizzyrea heaps
00:15 dcook Right, it's the PHP one
00:15 * dcook thinks he has seen something about integrating moodle and koha on the community site
00:15 rangi yep that would be good too
00:15 rangi then you can catalogue your course :)
00:15 wizzyrea or link directly to catalogue resources
00:15 wizzyrea or place a hold from moodle.
00:16 wizzyrea that would be cool.
00:16 wizzyrea kinda like course reserves
00:16 dcook Mmm, I didn't realize that Catalyst supported moodle as well
00:17 rangi yup
00:17 dcook You folks do all sorts
00:17 wizzyrea ^.^
00:18 dcook Bug 3511 Looks like Cait was thinking similar thoughts recently
00:18 huginn 04Bug http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=3511 enhancement, P5 - low, ---, gmcharlt, ASSIGNED , Integration with Moodle
00:18 bgkriegel Hi all. We use moodle extensively at the university (doing a revision of class right now). I could setup a site, that's the easy part. The content... it's more difficult.
00:19 dcook hey bgkriegel. Yeah, I'm trying to think of the content. Or rather...fun content :p
00:19 bgkriegel :)
00:19 dcook To be honest, I've never been a big fan of Blackboard so I'm not even sure what Moodle can do
00:20 rangi moodle is only like blackboard in that they are both learning management systems
00:20 dcook hehe
00:20 rangi blackboard sux, moodle doesnt
00:20 dcook Good to know ;)
00:21 dcook I suppose the content would just be instructions rather than interactive content, right?
00:21 rangi it can be either
00:21 ibeardslee [off] rangi: a disclaimer?
00:21 dcook I suppose if it was set up like BibLibre's sandboxes..
00:22 wizzyrea ?! why wouldn't people just get an account and go at their own speed?
00:22 * wizzyrea might be missing something
00:22 dcook I'm thinking about developing Koha rather than using Koha
00:22 rangi you can do all sorts of courses
00:22 wizzyrea no, that doesn't change my confusion.
00:23 wizzyrea :)
00:23 dcook hehe
00:23 dcook I'm just wondering how you get multiple people to edit Koha at their own speed
00:23 rangi dcook: first course
00:23 rangi set up a dev koha instance
00:23 wizzyrea install koha / gitify
00:24 wizzyrea ^ this
00:24 dcook Which is exactly what I was thinking in th e shower the other day...
00:24 wizzyrea i mean, first course.
00:24 dcook It really must be monday
00:24 dcook The dev koha instance that is
00:24 dcook Gitify?
00:25 wizzyrea (it's still in it's infancy but - https://github.com/mkfifo/koha-gitify)
00:25 wizzyrea takes a package install and turns it into a developer instance using a git clone
00:28 dcook Hmmm. I'll give it a whirl.
00:28 wizzyrea do report any bugs you find. :P
00:29 dcook I finally updated my Debian VM over the weekend, but it's just on my older laptop, so I need to pickup a decent machine to give me a bit more power
00:30 dcook I know we already have some docos for package installs and git installs, but...I want to go through the processes again and try to make them as user-friendly as possible
00:30 dcook Well, not user-friendly...as explicit and easy to understand as possible
00:31 cjh dcook: I have done some work on this recently
00:32 dcook Oh? How do you mean, cjh?
00:32 cjh dcook: for the Catalyst open source academy I made some instructions for installing koha, making it a dev install, making a simple fix, git basics and the upstreaming it
00:33 cjh I was planning to go through them at some point and possibly move them to the koha community wiki
00:33 dcook Oooh. Very cool, cjh!
00:34 dcook If I went through it sometime, would you like some feedback about it?
00:35 cjh ill message you dcook :)
00:35 dcook Awesome, thanks, cjh :)
00:47 * dcook plots away on how to bring Koha to the world
00:48 dcook Perhaps Canada first as a pilot ;)
00:48 eythian too late, it's already in most of the world :)
00:48 dcook Touché :p
00:48 dcook Then I'll plot to bring the world to Koha ;)
00:49 eythian that'll work :)
00:49 dcook My home province has 306 libraries
00:49 dcook I think all or most of them are part of a consortium now, but I think it's awefully expensive
00:49 dcook 306 public libraries*
00:50 dcook They have the resources where they could be running (and developing) Koha.
00:50 * dcook thinks that rangi mentioned that PEI is using Koha for all its public libraries...no, all its school libraries
00:51 rangi yep school
00:52 rangi http://www.gov.pe.ca/index.php3/index.php3?number=news&newsnumber=7681&dept=&lang=E
00:55 wizzyrea what's funny is that lots of koha libraries do this thing where they take the license fees they are saving, and instead of using that money to say, fix up things that bug them about koha, they buy books and expect people to fix their issues in koha for free :(. That's not universally true, of course but often so.
00:56 wizzyrea because they misunderstand the meaning of the word "Free" in "free software"
00:58 dcook :(
01:00 wizzyrea certainly, if libraries put even a quarter of the extra money they were saving back into Koha, we could do some really kickass stuff.
01:33 jcamins Could someone please do a pull on master and run updatedatabase?
01:34 jcamins I can't switch at the moment because I'm working on something else,and I can't tell if there's a syntax error.
01:35 bgkriegel jcamins: done, but what's the problem
01:35 jcamins bgkriegel: it died abruptly for me with no error reported.
01:37 bgkriegel is there an update?
01:38 bgkriegel last log in file is "3dc0f57 Bug 9767: Fix for updatedatabase.pl (mixed version numbers)"
01:38 huginn 04Bug http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=9767 critical, P5 - low, ---, m.de.rooy, Pushed to Master , Fix for updatedatabase.pl (mixed version numbers)
01:38 jcamins That's the last patch I had too.
01:38 jcamins Thanks.
01:38 bgkriegel ok
01:38 jcamins Must've been something specific to this test server.
01:39 jcamins That is good. :)
01:41 wizzyrea     I'm doing 23 -> 25 right now
01:41 wizzyrea but it seems to work fine
02:02 dcook What do folks think about adding some Javascript to "doc-head-close" to disable submit buttons when they're clicked?
02:02 dcook I've heard from people getting duplicate patrons from double-clicking on the patron entry submit
02:03 rangi how about a hand to clip impatient ppl about the head?
02:03 rangi id pay for that :)
02:03 jcamins rangi: I like that idea.
02:03 dcook That would be a lot of hands, rangi ;)
02:04 wizzyrea dcook there's a jquery function
02:04 wizzyrea preventdoubleformsubmit
02:04 rangi dcook: i dont really like the idea, however if you made it do a loading with a circle thingy instead
02:04 wizzyrea or somesuch
02:04 rangi so they can see something is happening
02:04 wizzyrea that should prevent that
02:04 rangi or they will just refresh
02:04 rangi ie i think the problem is they dont think something is happening, so hit submit again
02:05 wizzyrea right, prevent double form submit should take care of that
02:05 wizzyrea it's in use all over the place
02:05 rangi it does a loading popup?
02:05 wizzyrea naw, but it prevents double form submits
02:05 rangi yeah, see that just annoys me
02:05 wizzyrea if you double click only the first goes through
02:05 rangi thats a hack to not solve the problem
02:06 rangi the problem is they are not seeing they have done something
02:06 dcook Well, my thought was you disable the button and change the value to "Submitting" or something like that
02:06 dcook So, both ideas
02:06 dcook Prevent double-clicking, while also showing that something is happening
02:07 wizzyrea this may be a personal taste thing - I kind of hate that, but I've learned where to look to verify that I've done something. Users not so much.
02:07 wizzyrea so sure, turn it into a submit button.
02:07 rangi its gonna get worse
02:07 rangi more and more ppl browse with the url bar hidden
02:08 rangi specially on mobile devices
02:08 wizzyrea i mean change the button into something
02:08 wizzyrea else
02:08 wizzyrea you could probably add that to the doubleformsubmit function, then it would apply everywhere that's in use
02:08 dcook It doesn't seem very prevalent when I grep it
02:09 dcook opac-reserve.tt
02:09 dcook request.tt
02:09 wizzyrea it's only been put in places where people have reported double submits causing problems
02:09 dcook Mmm
02:09 wizzyrea but it's included on ever page in the intranet
02:09 wizzyrea every*
02:09 wizzyrea because it's in an include.
02:09 wizzyrea you can use it anywhere.
02:10 wizzyrea it's in use in fines too
02:10 dcook Ah, I might be looking at an old branch
02:10 dcook What are your thoughts rangi on disabling and changing the value?
02:10 dcook Perhaps not as elegant as a circle thingy, but...
02:11 rangi as long as its obvious they have clicked it
02:11 dcook The only issue with that, wizzyrea, is that a person would need to change every instance :/
02:11 rangi so they don't file a bug, i filled in the form but couldnt hit submit
02:11 rangi cos you know they will
02:11 wizzyrea it's an include? you should only need to update it once?
02:11 wizzyrea maybe I"m not following you.
02:12 dcook I mean you need to reference the function in regards to each form
02:12 dcook Rather than just targetting all submit buttons
02:12 dcook I suppose you might not always have a "submit" button per se though..
02:13 dcook rangi: That's true. I like the idea of the circle...I want to say that's in use for the framework import/export...
02:14 dcook Huh...
02:14 dcook Apparently the login screen/submit button already has it in place
02:14 dcook lol
02:14 dcook Except my login failed and now I can't re-submit without refreshing the page
02:15 rangi yup yup
02:15 dcook or...wtf...
02:15 eythian it should probably be a class you add to buttons that you want it on
02:15 wizzyrea bootstrap might have one
02:16 wizzyrea also might have that kind of thing built in - I haven't looked
02:16 dcook Yeah, I was just thinking that, wizzyrea
02:16 dcook Except that I just updated my db before applying that mixed version number patch..
02:16 dcook And now can't even get into the dev instance..
02:17 dcook Ahh
02:17 dcook My mistake it appears..
02:17 * dcook shuts up and goes about fixing it
02:21 eythian http://rc.getbootstrap.com/css/ <-- hope we're using bootstrap 3 :)
02:23 jcamins eythian: Bootstrap 3 does not appear to have been released?
02:23 eythian no, I think it's still rc.
02:24 eythian drop the /css off that URL and you can download it.
02:25 dcook wizzyrea: I'm not noticing that preventdoubleselect in fines O_o
02:25 wizzyrea preventdoubleformsubmit
02:26 wizzyrea oh, and you know why
02:26 dcook mhm
02:26 wizzyrea because it hasn't been pushed yet
02:26 dcook Ahh
02:26 dcook That could do it
02:26 wizzyrea it just got through qa yesterday
02:26 wizzyrea sorry, I thought that was in ages ago, it's been outstanding for a while
02:27 dcook Hmm
02:28 dcook I'm not sure if it works or not..
02:30 dcook Yeah...I don't know if that function actually works
02:30 * dcook just put 11 holds on the same item on the master staff client
02:30 wizzyrea it was working the last time I checked it
02:31 dcook Hmm, my bad
02:31 jcamins See? Someone else was able to do that!
02:31 dcook I was using a modded script
02:32 dcook But I see what rangi was saying
02:32 dcook jcamins: ?
02:32 jcamins dcook: I have regularly ended up with multiple holds on a single item.
02:33 dcook Intriguing
02:33 jcamins But I've never noticed it when it happened, just afterwards when something wonky happened to my holds.
02:33 dcook When I tried again using the master version, it didn't happen
02:33 dcook I did it through request.pl though
02:33 eythian it really needs, at the least, a last-ditch "I'm not going to do something silly like that" test.
02:33 wizzyrea jcamins that would be fixed in 3.8
02:34 * dcook agrees with eythian
02:34 dcook Should probably have server-side validation I would think
02:35 * jcamins is generally pro-validation.
02:35 * dcook too
02:35 jcamins Don't bring quote 123 into play unless someone really wants it.
02:35 dcook hehe
02:38 dcook Grrr. Can't can't the css to refresh on my dev..
02:38 wizzyrea I don't think there is a situation in existence where a person would want multiple, identical holds.
02:38 jcamins wizzyrea: agreed.
02:38 dcook Oh, there might be, but they probably shouldn't be allowed to
02:38 eythian wizzyrea: what happens if you want the book, and then want it again, huh?
02:38 eythian bet you didn't think of that!
02:38 dcook hehe
02:38 dcook I imagine there are lots of patrons who would love to do that
02:38 * wizzyrea gets out the biggest trout in her collection... winds up....
02:39 wizzyrea actually it doesn't work like that
02:39 wizzyrea the way it works, is when you complete one you complete them all :P
02:39 wizzyrea if you are talking about the reserves that are submitted with mad clicking.
02:39 wizzyrea though I havne't tested that since we've gotten the reservenumber in there
02:39 wizzyrea that may not be true anymore
02:40 wizzyrea which is even more reason to not let people do that
02:45 jcamins wizzyrea: except if you fill one hold don't you fill them all anyway?
02:45 eythian wahanui: goatstep is http://youtu.be/1eCbGrMfQ-g
02:45 wahanui OK, eythian.
02:45 wizzyrea i haven't tested it since we put in the reservenumber, making each reserve unique.
02:45 jcamins No, it's transfers that are fill one, fill all.
02:45 wizzyrea right, reserves used to be that way too
02:46 wizzyrea completing one reserve (if there were multiple identical ones) would complete all of the identical ones
02:46 wizzyrea but yes, transfers currently if you complete one, in certain circumstances, you complete them all
02:48 wizzyrea dcook: bug 8054 was the bug for fines
02:48 huginn 04Bug http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=8054 normal, P5 - low, ---, liz, Passed QA , can hit submit twice when paying fines
02:48 wizzyrea was/is
02:49 wizzyrea ^^ that one created some big messes.
02:50 wizzyrea patrons + money + mad clicking = recipe for mad patrons
02:50 dcook Mmm, no doubt
02:50 dcook I suppose I could just report a bug for the patron entry/edit screen...
02:50 dcook Although now I'm thinking about what rangi said, lol
02:50 wizzyrea /mad/angry/
02:50 dcook Because it really doesn't seem like anything is happening
02:50 dcook "or not happening"
02:51 wizzyrea pdfs could use some feedback, for sure
03:05 wizzyrea is there in existence an "easy marc framework"
03:05 dcook http://henrik.nyh.se/2008/07/jquery-double-submission/
03:05 dcook Good points
03:05 dcook Not with that name?
03:06 wizzyrea i'm just thinking that perhaps we should ship koha with a so-called "easy" framework that used english words
03:06 wizzyrea not library words.
03:06 dcook Mmm, I've thought about that before too
03:06 dcook I've actually mentioned to people before that they can rename frameworks to be less imposing
03:06 dcook So it might make sense to have a user-friendly framework for non-MARC folk
03:06 wizzyrea yea, i mean it should be completely, utterly possible to do this
03:07 wizzyrea just a lot of frackin work.
03:07 wizzyrea :/
03:07 wizzyrea not that I mind work...
03:07 dcook Depending on how big the easy framework is
03:07 wizzyrea I'm thinking small - like
03:07 dcook Could probably use the AACR2 minimal cataloguing level as a guide
03:08 wizzyrea hm. Yes I like that idea at least it follows some sort of standard.
03:08 wizzyrea then just take the words and make them normal words.
03:08 dcook Mhm
03:09 wizzyrea http://lts.library.cornell.edu/lts/pp/cat/22mlc
03:09 dcook https://www.oclc.org/bibformats/en/onlinecataloging.html
03:09 wizzyrea I like that, it's less than 20 fields.
03:09 dcook Mmm, yours is niccer
03:09 dcook nicer*
03:10 dcook Ohh, yeah, that looks quite good
03:10 dcook It could probably even be tightened a bit
03:10 wizzyrea *nod*
03:10 wizzyrea I'd leave the isbn and issn
03:10 wizzyrea for covers
03:10 dcook Mhm
03:10 wizzyrea drop LC call
03:11 wizzyrea edition is good, imprint could go
03:11 wizzyrea physical description could go
03:11 wizzyrea no 500's there tho
03:11 dcook Hmm
03:11 wizzyrea and no 800's for url's
03:11 dcook I used to do a lot of minimal level cataloguing, and we used imprint and physical description
03:11 wizzyrea (some people like to put, say, youtube links to movie trailers in the catalog)
03:12 * jcamins just got a bark from nagios informing him that his server is down.
03:12 wizzyrea oops
03:12 jcamins What is notable about this is that the server is actually up.
03:12 wizzyrea but it can't be because you are stil lon IRC
03:12 wizzyrea :)
03:12 wizzyrea FOR NOW.

03:12 wizzyrea oh. oh well.
03:12 jcamins I think nagios was just anticipating.
03:13 dcook lol
03:13 jcamins Which is kind of bizarre, really.

16:25 reiveune bye
16:30 jcamins Oh, that was fun.
16:30 jcamins One of my git repos spontaneously shredded itself into little piles of fatal errors.
16:30 oleonard :(
16:30 oleonard The "spontaneous" part is a little scary...
16:31 jcamins oleonard: it sure is!
16:34 * jcamins sets it up to replicate to more remotes.
16:35 oleonard jcamins: Didn't you define guidelines for patches with details like line length of commit messages?
16:36 jcamins oleonard: yeah, but I don't fail people over that.
16:36 jcamins If it's really egregious, I'll fix it myself, since I like to know what the commit messages say.
16:36 jcamins commit messages?
16:36 wahanui Please follow the guidelines at http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Commit_messages when writing commit messages.
16:37 oleonard Ah right, thanks
16:37 oleonard I knew it was on the wiki somewhere
16:42 jcamins Okay, my repo is now mirrored.
16:42 jcamins I mean, my mirror is mirrored.
16:50 rambutan @later tell wizzyrea you'll be happy to know that we got a dusting of snow lastnight and 22 °F.
16:50 huginn rambutan: The operation succeeded.
16:52 rambutan jcamins has a recursive mirror?
16:52 jcamins rambutan: I do.
16:52 jcamins Well, it's not truly recursive.
16:52 jcamins A truly recursive mirror would also push to the first repo.
16:52 rambutan :)

17:13 oleonard Random git communication blackout field. Must be time for lunch!
17:23 bag I have not tested this. but I've got a question and wanted to see if anyone here knew the answer before I set it up
17:23 bag let's say I have 300 items checked out (random number I know but think big) and they have all been renewed to their max
17:24 bag if I have allowrenewal overide set to allow. and I go back and renew all 300
17:24 bag does that mean I have to deal with the yellow pop-up dialog 300 times - or just once
17:24 bag (hopefully that makes sense) :P
17:25 jcamins bag: I haven't tried it, but I think the dialog will appear only once.
17:25 bag w00t
17:25 bag :D
17:25 jcamins I'm not sure if it will list all 300 books or just one of them, though.
17:25 bag I thought that too
17:25 jcamins Definitely a good idea to check, though.
17:25 bag well I might as well test - but I'm not testing 300 :P
17:25 jcamins You could just test five.
17:26 bag I was thinking 2 :P
17:26 bag HA
17:26 alexanderd Hi all! I have just a simple question... Could I?
17:26 bag of course :)
17:30 alexanderd I was searching a SQL query to erase all records, clean koha database
17:31 bag what do you mean clean database?
17:31 bag you want to get rid of everything in there?
17:31 alexanderd (Koha 3.10.02.000)
17:31 alexanderd yes, all records (not everything else)
17:32 bag I'd first make a backup - mysqldump
17:32 alexanderd another usefulls SQL querys could be one to backup Global system preferences setup
17:32 bag records - you could truncate biblios, biblioitems, and items
17:33 bag but then that would not clear your indexes (you'd have to add at least one record back in and then reindex)
17:33 bag and there are also old_bilbios and so on
17:33 bag schema?
17:33 wahanui schema is tracked in git. or found at http://schema.koha-community.org
17:33 bag you may want to look at that
17:34 bag if you want to back up system preferences - that would be a mysqldump of just that table
17:41 alexanderd TRUNCATE TABLE `biblio`, `biblioitems`, `items` ?
17:48 alexanderd Thanks! I'll try right now
18:35 oleonard magnuse still around?
18:47 jlozano hi, all. anybody ever have /cgi-bin/koha/cataloguing/addbiblio.pl sever connection to server while adding books?
18:47 jlozano I mean lost connection to server
18:49 jcamins jlozano: only when there is a problem with the internet connection.
18:50 magnuse oleonard: briefly :-)
18:51 oleonard No big deal magnuse, I was just curious if you had any idea what was going on with Bug 9772
18:51 huginn 04Bug http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=9772 normal, P5 - low, ---, magnus, Signed Off , Displayed Norwegian chars correctly in the patron category dropdown on the Patrons page
18:51 oleonard Your patch works, but I notice the same text doesn't cause problems in other contexts
18:52 oleonard I worried that it was a problem with the menu, so I tested the same text in other menus
18:53 jlozano was that for me?
18:54 oleonard No
18:54 jcamins jlozano: all I said was that it's almost certainly not a Koha issue that caused the connection to fail.
18:54 jlozano ok, great!
18:54 jcamins The only time I have the connection interrupted is when there's a problem with the internet connection.
18:55 jlozano well, it only happens after I try to add a book. And I've tried 2 different koha installations on different servers.
18:55 jlozano but I guess they always originate from the same place... hmm.
18:55 jcamins Sounds like a local problem.
18:55 jcamins Possibly your browser.
18:55 jcamins You should always use a modern version of a real browser.
18:55 jlozano hmm tried them all.
18:55 jlozano chrome, fire, ie.
18:55 jlozano same problem.
18:56 jlozano yeah, I'll try outside the network.
18:56 jcamins Very odd. My diagnosis would be a misconfigured proxy server on your LAN.
19:00 magnuse oleonard: yeah, as i said it feels a bit like curing the symptom, not the decease...
19:00 oleonard magnuse: On the bright side I got to test some interesting strings: http://www.columbia.edu/~fdc/utf8/
19:01 magnuse oleonard: hehe, cool
19:01 magnuse yeah, gotta make sure koha tackles runes :-)
19:03 oleonard There's probably a Tolkien scholar out there...
19:05 magnuse yay!
19:06 magnuse there is already a georgian translation - that's one good looking script
19:06 jcamins magnuse: hard to read, though.
19:07 * magnuse never tried
19:07 * jcamins cataloged a few books in Georgian.
19:07 jcamins Boy was that slow.
19:08 magnuse hehe
19:08 * magnuse has trained a couple of georgian librarians on koha
19:12 * oleonard has been to the Atlanta airport before!
19:13 jcamins oleonard: they write very funny there... "y'all," etc.
19:14 oleonard They're on to something you know. What do the rest of us do for a second-person plural?
19:15 jcamins oleonard: I thought "y'all" was singular in Georgia.
19:15 jcamins I thought the plural was "all y'all."
19:15 oleonard Good point
19:15 senator a malicious, unfounded rumor
19:15 * magnuse wanders off to eat waffles
19:15 jcamins senator: what's the second-person plural?
19:16 magnuse oh and oleonard++ for the signoff
19:16 * oleonard is trying to pick some low-hanging fruit
19:16 senator jcamins: y'all is second person plural, but never singular, except in hollywood scripts
19:17 jcamins Interesting.
19:17 wahanui interesting is sometimes good and sometimes bad
19:18 berick indeed, there is no royal ya'll
19:18 berick er, y'all
19:23 jlozano jcamins: thanks so much for your assessment. I RDP'd into my computer at home and was able to catalog the books no problem. must be some blocking here at school.
19:36 jcamins jlozano: if I had to guess, I'd say the most likely thing they're blocking is POST requests greater than a certain size.
19:36 jcamins Or they have routing screwed up and your IP is getting changed.
19:39 jlozano they always be getting the routing screwed up!
19:39 jcamins jlozano: if it's happened before, then that's definitely the most likely.
19:41 jlozano well, it always happens when I try to add the book through circulation, system operates perfectly otherwise.
19:42 jcamins jlozano: I mean, if they've had problems with routing in the past, it's probably routing now.
19:49 jlozano I'm guessing it's deliveritely blocking some kinds of traffic.
19:49 jcamins jlozano: that would be my guess as well. If you have an IT department, you could ask them if there are restrictions on "POST" requests, and if they could please lift them.
19:58 jlozano thanks! that helps.
20:16 oleonard Bye #koha
20:21 wizzyrea gah missed oleonard stupid daylight savings.
20:23 gcb I just tried updating koha 3.10.02 running on a 64-bit install of Debian 6.06 with no success. The message came back, "The following packages have been kept back: koha-common" The last time that happened, it was because the 64-bit version of koha was compiled on an Ubuntu machine that has a few additional packages beyond Debian. Might that be the issue now?
20:24 jcamins gcb: Did you use apt-get dist-upgrade?
20:24 gcb apt-get upgrade
20:24 wahanui it has been said that apt-get upgrade is a lot easier ;-)
20:24 jcamins apt-get upgrade will never upgrade between versions when there is a change in dependencies.
20:24 jcamins That's to make sure you can't end up accidentally installing something you don't want.
20:24 jcamins Try `sudo apt-get dist-upgrade`
20:25 gcb just ran apt-get -s dist-upgrade and it looks like that will work
20:26 jcamins Yay!
20:27 gcb It wanted to install libstring-random-perl
20:27 gcb y
20:27 jcamins Yeah, that makes sense.
20:28 gcb Thanks!
20:46 rambutan do one of the bots keep stats of the number of people logged on to #koha?
20:46 jcamins rambutan: I don't think so.
20:47 drojf rambutan: i think rangi had some irc stats in his edinburgh talk. not sure if that had number of people or lines spoken in it
20:48 jcamins http://stats.workbuffer.org/ircstats/
20:49 jlozano does anyone know what MARC field koha uses to get item specific information? like call number, barcode?
20:50 jcamins jlozano: items are stored in the 952 field, assuming that you're using MARC21.
20:53 magnuse ircstats?
20:53 magnuse ircstats is http://stats.workbuffer.org/ircstats/
20:54 rambutan there are 60+ people logged in right now, just seemed like more than normal, so was wondering if there were records kept somewhere
20:54 rambutan I'm astounded that there are regularly 490+ logins to #reprap on freenode
21:02 cjh wahanui: knock knock
21:02 wahanui cjh: huh?
21:15 jlozano hmm, I am.
21:21 drojf magnuse: i would like to try your normarc patch with DOM indexing before i sign off, unfortunately i did not find time to do that today
21:27 drojf oh. what do we do if there is no release manager? we don't release?
21:27 rangi it wont come to that, someone will step up to do it
21:28 rangi i just dont want to have to be that person
21:28 jcamins Just in case anyone missed it, I don't want to be either.
21:28 cait we didn't miss that, keep calm
21:28 cait and hello all
21:28 jcamins :)

21:29 cait it feels colder
21:29 drojf hi cait, how is the slide business going?
21:30 drojf rangi: heard anything from mozilla?
21:30 rangi nope not yet, how about you?
21:31 drojf i asked a few days ago (they told us "next week" back then) and he only knew "maybe end of march". but that seems to be a guess just like before
21:31 drojf geeksphone never said anything :/
21:32 rangi yeah i think they are waiting on the hardware dudes
21:32 drojf oh yes, they said "thabk you for patient, subscribe toe newsletter" :D
21:32 rangi heh

21:32 drojf "thank". it wasn't that bad :D
21:33 drojf jcamins: kind of
21:35 drojf they probably just want me to do all stuff and sign up for my thesis so i don't procrastinate even more
21:36 rangi heh
21:45 jlozano ok, guys, #1 thanks for your help so far. #2 If I'm importing records from Sirsi which had a 999 field with item info, and I changed the field to a 952 field, and the records actually import fine! How do I get the items as well to carry over?
21:46 jcamins jlozano: you'll need to convert all the data out of Sirsi's format into Koha.
21:46 jcamins @marc 952
21:46 huginn jcamins: unknown tag 952
21:46 wahanui The 952 field is used by Koha to store item data in MARC21 and is described at http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Holdings_data_fields_%289xx%29
21:46 jcamins ^^ wahanui's link should help.
21:48 drojf migration toolbox?
21:48 wahanui i think migration toolbox is https://www.gitorious.org/koha-toolbox/
21:48 jlozano omg. it's gonna be a long ight :(
21:48 jlozano *night
21:48 jcamins jlozano: you weren't planning on doing it first try, were you?
21:49 jlozano ha jcamins funny you should mention that :)
21:49 jcamins jlozano: generally it's a good idea to do at *least* one test load.
21:50 jlozano Getting the server up and running was soo eazy. almost deceiving.
21:50 jlozano yeah. I have been trying to import about 1100 DVDs from Sirsi Marc output files all day.
21:51 drojf dynix classic item analyzer: # EXPECTS: -nothing # DOES: -nothing
21:51 drojf sounds great :D
21:51 drojf sirsi is dynix, right? i don't know all your crazy library systems
21:51 jlozano yeah, sorry it' snow Sirsi Dynix.
21:52 drojf maybe dynix classic is something else?
21:52 wizzyrea it is
21:52 drojf ok
21:53 jcamins Yeah, Dynix is something else entirely.

21:56 gmcharlt drojf: that brings back memories
21:58 rangi heh
21:59 jlozano well, thanks for the info! I'll just have to bury my head it in it tomorrow, quittin' time round' these parts.
22:00 eythian hi
22:14 eythian https://twitter.com/shit_hn_says/status/277270150842040320 <-- this explains everything!
22:28 maximep most of the checkout by hour code was done by libsysguy, right ?
22:29 rangi a lot of it yep
22:29 rangi colin campbell did a chunk too
22:30 maximep ok. I have to estimate how long it would take to get back a feature we lost by updating to that code
22:30 maximep checkout by minutes :p
22:31 rangi adding in minute checkouts would be good
22:31 * dcook agrees
22:31 dcook Handy for all sorts of loans
22:31 maximep the first problem I see is that id have to change the circulation rules page
22:32 rangi to have 3 choices, hour, days or minutes
22:32 rangi ?
22:32 maximep well, that way it couldnt be 1h30
22:32 rangi 90 minutes
22:32 maximep well
22:32 maximep good point :p
22:32 rangi :)
22:33 rangi you could almost do it with minutes and days
22:33 maximep so hard to estimate task like these :/
22:34 maximep could take a few days, could take weeks :/
22:34 maximep anyway, thanks for the help
22:34 maximep I will ask again tomorrow, hoping one of the author of the code can help
22:36 rangi or email koha-devel?
22:37 jcamins But... you can check out things in an arbitrary number of minutes.
22:37 maximep yeah
22:37 jcamins maximep: libsysguy is no longer around, and Colin is rarely on IRC.
22:37 maximep ok
22:37 jcamins It seems to me the only difficulty would be the circulation and fine rules.
22:38 maximep wow, just saw this bug 5038. Feature request we opened in 2010
22:38 huginn 04Bug http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=5038 enhancement, P5 - low, ---, kyle.m.hall, NEW , Checkout by hour
22:38 maximep time to close it
22:40 maximep what do you mean jcamins by "you can check out things in an arbitrary number of minutes"
22:40 maximep ?
22:40 jcamins maximep: you can set the due date to 87 minutes from now, if you want.
22:41 * jcamins goes to eat dinner.
22:41 maximep can you ?
22:41 maximep well
22:41 maximep gtg too
22:41 maximep cya
22:41 jcamins You just can't set a rule.
22:41 jcamins Bye.
