23:59 jcamins I asked on the PSGI IRC channel, and was told that PSGI did not allow it.
23:59 eythian because people might be using other servers instead.
23:59 jcamins No, Plack.
23:59 eythian is it a starman limitation?
23:58 jcamins I feel like it would be hard to miss.
23:56 jcamins What I can't figure out is why no one testing Plack has complained about this before.
23:56 jcamins Well, this is a development server, so I will do without error documents.
23:54 * jcamins is not going to be changing his configuration at this point. :P
23:54 eythian I probably wouldn't use that in production, but instead mod_psgi or something. I haven't given it a lot of thought however.
23:53 jcamins eythian: I am indeed.
23:53 eythian or whatever it is?
23:53 eythian well, are you using starman?
23:48 jcamins Who else announced their intention of putting Plack in production?
23:46 jcamins Odd.
23:46 jcamins And it's served by Apache.
23:42 jcamins And error documents work perfectly.
23:41 jcamins Yes.
23:38 jcamins Does anyone know if dpavlin's system is publicly available?
22:49 jcamins Guess I need html error pages.
22:48 jcamins Hehe.
22:47 * eythian brought boxes of hagelslag back from .nl :)
22:47 jcamins Excuse me, 9lbs.
22:47 jcamins I shall have to buy 10lbs next week.
22:46 jcamins Ooh! Chocolate chips are on sale!
22:43 jcamins Plack does not support Perl errorodocuments.

22:39 rangi but yeah its not for the logo, and no they dont use the real logo
22:38 rangi well there aren't yet, the TM still isnt registered
22:38 eythian there are trademark issues in NZ too, though I don't think they cover the logo. I don't think PTFS uses the real logo anyway.
22:37 eythian ah right
22:37 rambutan eythian: I should have said "new library bookmobile" in my email, vs just "new library"
22:25 jcamins This errordocument issue with Plack seems like something that many, many people would have encountered.
22:24 eythian yeah, that is a neat idea

20:36 jcamins The problem with static errorhandlers is that we show different things depending on whether you're logged in or not.
20:25 jcamins Right, so a change to the various errorhandlers will fix it.
20:24 drojf when i have the working local 404.html and open /cgi-bin/koha/errors/404.pl i get to my local file instead

19:45 drojf indeed
19:44 jcamins drojf: puzzling, isn't it?
19:40 jcamins Yeah, that's what I found.
19:40 drojf ok i see, that does not really work for me either. enabling the sub request brings back the old error and does not really do a GET at all
19:37 drojf browser "file not found" instead of the other "not found" is at least different :)
19:30 drojf let's me try
19:30 * jcamins figures that probably has the solution... somewhere.
19:29 jcamins Yes, but I haven't figured out how to use it yet.
19:29 wahanui I haven't seen 'this', drojf
19:29 drojf        seen this? http://dev.man-online.org/man3/Plack::Middleware::ErrorDocument/

19:04 jcamins Like the error documents.
19:03 * jcamins will share, once he has the last bugs worked out.
19:03 drojf i see

19:03 drojf ah. great ;)
19:03 jcamins drojf: it doesn't.
19:03 drojf that reminds me… i wanted to ask dpavlin_ what is in his prod.psgi. how does it work with opac and staff client in starman? do you just throw both files together?
18:58 drojf ah right you said so. and i just checked on the pi and see a 3.001-1
18:57 jcamins drojf: I decided to use Ubuntu Precise so that I wouldn't have to CPAN so much.

18:55 jcamins drojf: I am, yes.
18:55 drojf jcamins: are you using starman now?
18:54 rambutan we've found that nodejs actually much easier, and significantly faster in many cases. Plus I really enjoy working in it. It also allows you to develop a full application. Instead of executing at request. So it can sit there and listen at alternate ports, and perform many operations.
18:54 rambutan here's the feedback on nodejs from the guy I was talking about earlier, if anyone is interested...
18:49 jcamins drojf: that's what I get, too, thanks.
18:48 drojf i just get "not found" if i open an url that does not exist
18:48 drojf good question. let me see
18:47 drojf lol
18:47 wahanui i think jcamins is either blind sided with arrogance for me even to bring up this inquiry as if he has seen this before or he can not be bothered, and an embarrasement to my software comunity.
18:47 jcamins jcamins?
18:46 jcamins drojf: do error messages (404, etc.) work for you under Plack?
18:46 drojf the usual. butter, flour, sugar, an egg, and chocolate of course
18:45 * oleonard wonders what wahanui is waiting 87 years for

18:44 cait next time
18:44 drojf yes. very nice. could have used even more of the chilistuff, i was a little shy.
18:43 cait drojf: did you try it?
18:42 * cait wishes she had some

18:42 wahanui Cookies are delicious delicacies
18:42 drojf cookies!
18:39 cait hm that's not a plus then :)
18:39 rambutan no, I think it's a new toy :)
18:39 cait did he work with nodejs in hte past?
18:38 rambutan the main coder for this wants to use nodejs, but if he kept it in php us others could probably help him more.
18:37 rambutan This is a public access control system
18:36 rambutan http://code.google.com/p/libpac/source/browse/
18:36 libsysguy at least that is my philosophy
18:35 libsysguy languages are just tools, you should pick the right one for the right job
18:35 libsysguy and would it be better served to write it in php or node
18:35 libsysguy what is the app for?
18:33 rambutan Well, I think we're going to have to redo some of the php anyway.
18:32 libsysguy i ended up using perl instead
18:32 rambutan I asked him that exact question (via email), haven't gotten a reply.
18:32 libsysguy and had mixed results
18:32 libsysguy I tried to write a page scraper in it once
18:31 jcamins rambutan: I've heard good things about nodejs, and it worked well when I had a Javascript application that I wanted to run on the server instead of the browser (Zotero), but I wouldn't rewrite anything to use it.
18:31 cait ^^ I think that's a good question
18:31 oleonard Just for the sake of using nodejs?
18:28 rambutan yes. We have an app we're working on using mostly php for server side, and one of the group wants to redo it in nodejs
18:25 jcamins rambutan: isn't that server-side JS?
18:24 * oleonard doesn't know enough to comment
18:24 rambutan oleonard (or others): any general philosophical comments on nodejs?
18:15 huginn libsysguy: The operation succeeded.

16:18 kf but it would make my life a lot easier if allowonshelfholds and opacitemholds were on circ matrix level
16:17 kf so we get a lot of time tofigure out problems with it

16:12 jcamins oleonard: actually, that's a really good idea.

16:09 jcamins Do we have a sample patron generator?
16:08 kf and will miss another release, after already missing the last one :(
16:08 kf so it's stuck
16:08 kf it has lots of sign-offs but paul found a problem that srdjan couldn't confirm
16:08 kf which is what you want I think

16:07 * jcamins tosses wizzyrea some duct tape.
16:07 kf with one of my favourite bugs
16:07 kf it would be possible
16:07 kf :(
16:06 oleonard Because right now we don't want to offer patrons item-level holds, and that would prevent them from placing holds on specific magazine issues
16:06 oleonard I think we're waiting for an option to be able to allow item-level holds only on specific types (or categories) of titles
16:05 kf it isn't that scary... really!
16:05 kf oh
16:05 kf ah, ok :)
16:04 wizzyrea we don't use serials :/
16:03 kf wizzyrea: do you happen to have a training planfor serials? :)
16:02 kf I always get an aaah for that feature when presenting
16:02 wizzyrea ^^
16:02 kf or whatever.
16:01 kf or if they say that a book was not listed
16:01 kf and if someone tell you they didn't get any overdues notice you can check
16:01 kf the notices tab builds on it
15:54 oleonard kf and wizzyrea, how is the message queue useful for reporting?

15:41 jcamins It has nothing to do with locales.

15:38 jenkins_koha Project Koha_master build #872: SUCCESS in 1 hr 10 min: http://jenkins.koha-community.org/job/Koha_master/872/
15:38 * jcamins doesn't know the Portuguese alphabet very well.
15:37 jcamins Probably not with Spanish or Italian, either.
15:37 jcamins No, you won't run into problems with German.
15:37 kf yeah, french sounds sensible
15:37 kf maybe never run into problems so far then
15:37 jcamins Use French.
15:37 kf ah
15:37 wahanui i think sorting is a Monday job
15:37 jcamins Sorting.
15:37 jcamins French.
15:37 kf jcamins: what is different for the different settings?
15:36 kf we have umlauts
15:36 kf I think the punctuation should not matter so much
15:36 jcamins Don't do anything until I've had another thirty seconds to think.
15:36 * jcamins thinks about it a bit more.
15:35 jcamins Actually...
15:35 gerundio I was thinking about it :)
15:35 jcamins gerundio: use fr.
15:35 gerundio so I guess EN is out of the equation
15:35 gerundio Portuguese and possible others languages with additional ponctuation
15:34 kf gerundio: which language would you need?
15:34 kf gerundio: we are using it with en I think (for german) I am not sure an option for each language is required
15:33 gerundio how can I add more languages to select there?
15:32 kf reading back now
15:32 gerundio hi, I'm just starting installing Koha and I'm having some doubts regargind the "Primary language for Zebra indexing (en, fr, nb)" step
15:32 wizzyrea yep
15:32 kf wizzyrea: the message_queue is good for reporting
15:29 oleonard ...will mean no digest-like functionality
15:29 oleonard Checkout notices get sent out with every run of process_message_queue.pl, so running that every minute
15:25 oleonard So wait, how are item checkout notices generated? Not via cron job?
15:24 wizzyrea right that's what I'm referring to
15:22 oleonard For the OPAC registrations certainly
15:22 wizzyrea i'm not sure why you wouldn't just send it when the user submits, like every other website out ther.e
15:21 oleonard Yeah if you're choosing an interval for the advance_notices cron job why not send straight away on that interval
15:18 wizzyrea at a later time
15:18 wizzyrea cronning messages only makes sense when there's a chance you might add more to the message
15:18 wizzyrea yea I was wondering why we don't just skip the message queue and time them independently, on demand.
15:17 reiveune1 bye
15:11 kf the circ slips I think do their own timing thing
15:11 kf what else ... hold messages are 1 each
15:11 kf I think it wouldn't effect the notces I mentioned
15:10 kf ah
15:10 oleonard I'm thinking about the discussion around the patron-self-registration feature, where it sounded like we would need to reduce the frequency of process_message_queue.pl to minutes in order to send out confirmation emails
15:09 kf does that make sense?
15:09 kf at least for overdues, due and predue
15:09 kf so it would dependon how often you run those, but would always get all for the specific date I think
15:08 wizzyrea or whenever the crons run.
15:08 kf and overdue_notices
15:08 kf advance-notices
15:08 kf because the messages are generated by a separate job
15:08 wizzyrea It *thought* it happened once every 24 hours regardless
15:08 kf I think not
15:08 kf hmm
15:08 oleonard Does the number of messages contained in a notice "digest" depend on how often your message queue is processed?
15:06 kf yum.
15:06 jcamins I figure of curried coconut oatmeal chocolate chip cookies are delicious, chocolate chip mango-habanero cookies would be delicious too.
15:03 drojf that's what i think
15:01 jcamins At least, that's my theory.
15:01 jcamins_away drojf: amazing!
15:00 drojf i will find out soon. just need soft butter. where is the cat we use for that purpose?
14:58 kf sounds interesting
14:52 drojf i wonder how baking chocolate chip cookies with some mango-habanero-sauce would turn out
14:52 kf that was easy :)
14:51 drojf heh ok i'll shut up :)
14:50 kf buy me one... then we can talk again

14:49 drojf might take a while
14:49 drojf maybe have lunch early

14:47 kf I reported a bug for that
14:46 kf unless you have an anonymous borrower set up
14:46 kf the crux with the anonymizing tool is that is reports usccess and does nothing
14:46 kf they make sense .... but I would only use them after doing extensive testing
14:45 oleonard Yeah, both of those are scary options
14:45 kf I think I am too worried about this tool
14:44 kf hm not, that was anonymizing I think :(
14:44 kf oleonard: on a test install testing a patch once

12:49 drojf ah, that makes more sense
12:48 jcamins With NYTProf enabled, it takes 2.5s.
12:48 jcamins No, this is with NYTProf disabled.
12:46 drojf with NYTProf running? wow, i did not expect that. i think it took minutes on the pi :D
12:45 * jcamins still doesn't have any data.

12:45 jcamins drojf: the maintenance page takes .25s.
12:44 drojf how fast is that on a normal machine? it was unbearably slow on the raspberry pi
12:43 jcamins Oh well. Guess I'll have to uncomment the NYTProf block when I want to profile code.
12:42 jcamins Oh, no, that won't work.
12:41 jcamins I think I found the way to do it.
12:41 jcamins That's how I do it with Apache.
12:41 jcamins I'm using Plack.
12:41 jcamins That wouldn't help.
12:40 mtompset How about an ugly solution of a script wrapper?
12:38 jcamins I often profile my code.
12:37 jcamins I don't care how much faster Plack is than Apache.
12:37 jcamins No.
12:37 mtompset Ah, to generate comparative numbers with plack on and off?
12:37 jcamins The question is whether there's any way I can prevent it running all the time, 'cause it's slow.
12:36 jcamins With Plack.
12:36 mtompset a profiler? How are you using it?
12:33 jcamins Tricky.
12:33 jcamins Okay, I need to enable NYTProf only when a parameter is set.
12:31 mtompset Thankfully, 5 are fixed. :) -- 1 failed. :( -- 2 need signoff. :) -- 9 assigned and in discussion -- plus the 32 which are new, 2 of which are blocker (that leave the 30 which kf was likely referring to before)

11:49 jcamins No, you are right.
11:49 magnuse but that's ~1000 bugs that should be closed, or am i thinking about it wrong?
11:47 kf not too bad
11:47 magnuse wow, 557 bugs are pushed to master, 466 pushed to stable
11:46 magnuse so i'd rather do what i can, without promising to do anything in particular
11:45 magnuse yeah, but i will have so little time for them in the next half year, if things go to plan
11:44 kf because apparently you care for the bugs :)
11:44 kf magnuse: btw why are you not there to be a bug wrangler, hm? :)
11:43 magnuse close "pushed to stable" first, perhaps?
11:43 magnuse hm, will that mess things up for the rmaint?
11:42 jcamins +1
11:41 kf jcamins: what do you think?
11:41 kf clean start for 3.12
11:41 kf I agree
11:41 kf yep
11:41 magnuse when 3.10 is out we should do a "close pushed bugs" day, i think...
11:38 kf the only thing that can be fixed is the "default2 for the standard framework
11:38 kf mtompset: there is no way to have mulitple language support for database values right now
11:37 kf mtompset: you can add frameworks yourself - they are user generated content
11:37 * jcamins does not like doing without the debug panels.
11:32 jcamins Guess I'll have to do without the debug panels.
11:30 mtompset Having sample data for various languages - good. What that sounds like - bad.
11:24 kf and it's common to have a set of sample data for various languages in KOha - this is only a side effect of that
11:24 kf mtompset: it's like things are.
11:24 mtompset ewwww!
11:23 kf but you could give your frameworks translated names and create translates sql files
11:23 kf well not if you want it multilingual
11:23 kf not really
11:23 kf hm
11:22 jcamins kf: yeah, I guess that's not very fixable, is it?
11:21 kf jcamins: that's because the name is in the sql files I think - for the drop downs
11:19 jcamins 404 Not Found... why?
11:09 jcamins drojf: no, after the initial hit it's blazing fast.
11:08 drojf ;)
11:08 jcamins It's nginx.
11:08 drojf maybe i skipped the cool stuff that makes it fast in my minimal guide
11:08 jcamins Oh-ho.
11:06 drojf heh
11:06 jcamins And less intrusive.
11:06 jcamins Okay... I thought the panels were more attractive.
11:05 drojf jcamins: i remember that the last time i wanted to use dh-make-perl it did something like that too. before it just built .debs
11:04 mtompset I dislike ubuntu's two ways of doing init scripts.
11:02 jcamins I think perhaps my daemon startup script needs to request something when it starts.
11:02 magnuse hehe: "Using this program is no excuse for not reading the debian developer documentation"
11:02 jcamins That first time you hit Plack, it's quite slow, I have observed.
11:00 jcamins I can work with that, though, I think.
10:59 jcamins Generate a local Perl environment.
10:59 drojf what does it do instead?
10:59 jcamins Make a Debian package.
10:58 magnuse make coffee?
10:58 jcamins dh-make-perl does not do what I was expecting it to under Ubuntu.
10:58 jcamins Well, hm.
10:56 magnuse yay!
10:56 jcamins Running Koha.
10:56 jcamins lol
10:56 magnuse are they just running or are they running koha?
10:54 jcamins I have my server running nginx and Plack, with the following problems: no nifty debug panels, Plack doesn't start on boot, and there's no data.
10:53 drojf huh?
10:52 jcamins And data.
10:51 jcamins And automatically starting on boot.
10:51 jcamins Well, sans nifty debug panels.
10:51 jcamins Cool, nginx+plack is fully functional.
10:42 jcamins Authorities.
10:41 kf_lunch and I will ignore that until after lunch
10:41 kf_lunch which drop downs?
10:41 kf_lunch oh
10:40 jcamins Not that I see how it would be possible.
10:40 kf lunch time
10:40 jcamins Looks like no one pointed out to me that the dropdowns couldn't be translated, either.
10:40 jcamins Hm.
10:28 kf [off] slef: I heard back from fredericd
10:23 jcamins Huh. And my changes worked, so far.
10:22 jcamins I just modified it again.
10:22 jcamins It did, but I was celebrating when my modifications worked.
10:22 drojf you mean, my part worked? :P
10:20 jcamins Well, my Plack config worked until I decided just now to redo it.
10:19 jcamins Oh, that was a dumb way to do things.
10:19 jcamins I decided to use Ubuntu, even though I don't like it so much, because more of the modules are available.
10:15 drojf the debug stuff is fancy but requires a lot of perl module building
10:15 jcamins I think I'd like those debug panes, too...
10:14 drojf jcamins: not yet ;)
10:14 jcamins mtompset: no, but I'm bouncing on my exercise ball.
10:13 mtompset Are you doing a little success dance too, jcamins? ;)
10:13 jcamins drojf: don't suppose you have a minimal nginx configuration?
10:13 * mtompset can feel the techy-success through IRC.
10:13 jcamins Now, nginx.
10:13 jcamins (without also listening on a port)
10:13 drojf cool. starman is on my todo-pile
10:13 jcamins Starman will listen on a socket.
10:12 jcamins Woohoo!
10:12 mtompset Good thing you are telling wahanui your slef-isms. :)
10:12 mtompset Same diff. :P But probably. :)
10:11 wahanui it has been said that ITYM is I Think You Mean
10:11 mtompset ITYM?
10:11 jcamins Then things started getting wacky.
10:11 slef mtompset: huginn ITYM
10:11 jcamins That's what I started with.
10:11 drojf \o/
10:11 jcamins      drojf++
10:11 jcamins I didn't realize that was you.
10:10 jcamins I saw.
10:10 drojf i added some info for minimal plack configuration to the wiki some days ago if that helps anyone
10:10 jcamins Unfortunately, it's getting tetchy about listening only on a socket.
10:10 jcamins drojf: because I decided I didn't like dpavlin's suggested configuration and am doing a creative new configuration.
10:10 kf guess I will need one server running plack in the future
10:09 kf jcamins: hope you made notes :)
10:09 drojf why wouldn't it?
10:08 jcamins Plack is working!
10:08 jcamins Yay!
10:08 mtompset Actually, you can privately message wahanui with the @later. I don't think that gets logged, slef.
10:01 kf done
10:00 slef ok thanks.
10:00 kf I am writing him one
10:00 slef I don't have his mail handy.
10:00 kf so maybe a mail would be better
10:00 kf but he has to say something here first
09:59 kf ok :) so that shoudl hopefully work
09:59 slef he'll be spammed in reply :)
09:59 kf I did it, got a success message
09:59 slef kf: me2
09:59 kf slef: I id
09:59 jcamins Yay!

09:59 kf slef: you can tell huginn directly in a pm
09:58 wahanui slef: huh?
09:58 slef wahanui: clearly
09:58 wahanui slef: i'm not following you...
09:58 slef wahanui: you suck
09:58 jcamins slef: you can't use [off] and @later

09:58 slef [off] @later tell fredericd your twitter is DMing people links - has it been cracked?
09:55 jcamins I got Plack running... it gives me a stack trace.
09:54 jcamins Well... I'm not sure this is a good sign.
09:47 kf [off] slef: got some messages too - leaving him a message is a good idea
09:46 magnuse will do!
09:44 mtompset Nope. You're awake. Try to be productive. :)
09:41 magnuse lol, should i just go back to sleep?

09:37 slef [off] fredericd: SMIDSY. I think your twitter has been cracked.
09:37 slef [off] anyone else getting twitter-DMd by fredericd? Spam/hack?
09:36 paul_p1 WaqarAzeem: I confirm what magnuse says: I don't see it
09:34 WaqarAzeem Ok
09:34 magnuse WaqarAzeem: i think that is because the breadcrumbs remember pages you have visited
09:33 WaqarAzeem paul_p1: somehow it's still appearing in breadcrumb at http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Category:Development
09:25 WaqarAzeem thanks

08:44 kf :)
08:44 jcamins (to both questions)
08:44 jcamins Yup.
08:44 kf so you cooked the sauerkraut in there?
08:43 magnuse http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kielbasa ?
08:42 jcamins Shari made kielbasa with sauerkraut and apples.
08:42 jcamins They have very straight sides.
08:42 kf jcamins: what did you make?
08:42 jcamins My muffin tins wouldn't be so good for that.
08:41 mtompset I didn't know if I was going to be around to tell you about the cookie bowl idea I found.
08:40 * mtompset laughs.
08:40 jcamins Good morning.
08:40 jcamins The problem with using a crockpot to cook delicious meals overnight is that when you wake up at 4:30 it smells SO GOOD that you can't fall back asleep 'cause you're hungry.
08:39 mtompset Greetings, jcamins
07:59 magnuse hiya druthb
07:53 druthb Hi magnus.
07:53 magnuse o/
07:40 mtompset I'm wondering if this is part of the rabbit hole that libsysguy feels like he's fallen down.
07:38 mtompset jquery tablesorter.
07:33 mtompset Right.
07:33 kf you need a different logic
07:33 kf because the other date formats can't be sorted alphabetically
07:33 kf yes
07:33 mtompset If you sort on the date... it sorts "wrong" for non-yyyy-mm-dd layout.
07:33 kf not sure which table sorter is used for that page at the moment
07:33 kf I woudl say file a bug
07:32 mtompset In the list of them.
07:32 kf ah yes
07:32 mtompset Each has a date.
07:32 mtompset We have a whole bunch of them.
07:32 mtompset Saved Reports
07:32 kf although I am not sure where you are seeing this?
07:31 kf you coudl report a bug for that
07:31 kf it's probably missing the magic to make it sort right for different date formats
07:31 kf mtompset: not so bizarre I think
07:29 rangi any qa people in the house?
07:29 mtompset "wrong" in the want it to sort the same as yyyy/mm/dd
07:28 mtompset Hmmm... that's a bizarre case, dateformat = dd/mm/yyyy sorts wrong, but yyyy/mm/dd sorts right.
07:28 kf ?
07:26 mtompset Hmmm... is there a patch or system preference for the sort order on dates for reports?
