23:13 jenkins_koha julian.maurice: Bug 8495: Fix JS error when creating a new order
23:13 jenkins_koha Project Koha_3.8.x build #144: SUCCESS in 1 hr 3 min: http://jenkins.koha-community.org/job/Koha_3.8.x/144/
22:48 jcamins_away wajasu: exactly. It's the complete stack that needs testing.
22:10 jenkins_koha Starting build #144 for job Koha_3.8.x (previous build: SUCCESS)
21:18 wajasu i'm just wondiering what you guys want/need in testing. you have unit tests. you can already mock. its integration tests that use all the tiers (gui, service, api, database) that you can prove at release time to prevent regressions.
21:18 * jcamins_away leaves
21:12 wajasu to write specs in the fitnesse wiki markup. language independent. slim protocol sends strings/lists with simple protoocl to slim server that is written in java, ruby, perl(TODO), and the tests are executed, with results coming back to the fitnesse webbrowser.
21:09 jcamins_away wajasu: but people need to use the wiki to write Python?
21:09 wajasu once its set up, folks just write specs in the fitness wiki. the wiki specs are saved to a directory in the git repo. the step definitions/fixtures can be written in groovy. with a perl slim server port, you can write perl based fixtures for the same fitness tests.
21:06 wajasu i was going to write a perl slim port to let us call perl code. then you can test sevices, modules, sub routines.
21:05 jcamins_away wajasu: don't suppose we could use Perl with that?
21:05 pastebot "wajasu" at 127.0.0.1 pasted "using geb-spock to test koha gui using firefox" (112 lines) at http://paste.koha-community.org/146
20:27 rangi cool

19:46 rangi Hehe
19:45 wizzyrea yes, give him booze. that makes all butlers happy

19:35 rangi @wunder nzwn
19:34 oleonard Hi rangi
19:34 rangi Morning
19:29 jcamins_away wajasu: I think it's an excellent idea, just pointing out that a workflow of writetest-code-failtest-code-passtest-test-signoff-passqa is a little bit overly optimistic. ;)
19:23 jcamins_away wajasu: true.
19:19 wajasu as a signer, could we not write a test when a patch fails then refer to it for them to pass/adjust for the next cycle? or when complex functionality is wanted (acquisitions, etc). you are right. writing tests is hard, but decoupling is hard.
19:15 jcamins_away wajasu: that only works as well as your users' motivation to write tests.
19:14 wajasu if this could be set up, we could push slower workflow of test-fail-test-fail-signoff to writetest-code-failtest-code-passtest-test-signoff-passqa. devs would need to pass test before they checkin/push/supply patch code.
19:09 wajasu fitnesse is a wiki for writing high level tests. devs can write fixtures to enable the tests. fitnesse has a git plugin, so writing a test, adds the files inthe git directories to the git repo. so they get checked in with the branch, etc.
19:08 wajasu i looked into a perl slim protocol driver, and that could be done later if you wanted, because you said unit tests were fine.
19:06 wajasu then use fitnesse to verify that database row entries are correct in the backend.
19:05 wajasu I also, got fitnesee running to call groovy based fixtures. So we could have non-programmers write tests in fitnesse web pages.
19:05 wajasu
19:05 wajasu rangi: i know we spoke about some sort of functional or integrated tests a few days back. i was able to use geb-spock (aka groovy based selenium2 webdriver specs) to login to koha and verifiy we arrive at the home page with firefox.
19:05 * gmcharlt has a guess - checks something to confirm
19:03 jcamins_away I'll run the linker against my database again when I'm looking at authority linking next.
19:03 jcamins_away Odd.
19:02 nengard jcamins i never did pin point my authority problem ? i re-ran the linker and it won't link my name authorities (not asking for help right now - just an fyi)
18:56 huginn 04Bug http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=8378 critical, P5 - low, ---, koha-bugs, Needs Signoff , <fine> syntax not working on overdues anymore
18:56 wajasu it worked with my bug 8378 patch, which hopefully gets sign off
18:56 drojf wow. thanks wajasu
18:55 * oleonard thanks jcamins_away for pointing out that "argle bargle bargle blarg" is offending code
18:55 nengard it was that 20 character barcode
18:55 nengard fixed it :)
18:55 pastebot "wajasu" at 127.0.0.1 pasted "notes for configuring "null" email client for koha outgoing email" (345 lines) at http://paste.koha-community.org/145
18:55 wajasu drojf: i think you mentioned being interested in my postfix email client setup. so I've pasted some config for reference.
18:53 * jcamins_away notes this is why Excel is evil.
18:52 jcamins_away Try MAX(ABS(barcode))
18:52 jcamins_away nengard: ^^ the offending code.
18:52 wizzyrea argle bargle bargle blarg
18:52 jcamins_away http://git.koha-community.org/gitweb/?p=koha.git;a=blob;f=cataloguing/value_builder/barcode.pl;h=0ec6b6277a3dbf1049c71670f7fef4b0b93a14a0;hb=HEAD#l95
18:52 oleonard wizzyrea: Sounds like my staff, who like to put in the phone number field "No phone"
18:52 wizzyrea then I limited to branch and that was much nicer.
18:52 pastebot "nengard" at 127.0.0.1 pasted "thing i found the culprit" (9 lines) at http://paste.koha-community.org/144
18:51 nengard i did the max thing and got a number that was not long at all
18:51 jcamins_away wizzyrea: sounds about right.
18:51 wizzyrea not helpful ;)
18:51 wizzyrea the last time I tried to get a max barcode, I got "SPECIAL ITEM NO BARCODE" as the result (or something like)
18:51 pastebot "nengard" at 127.0.0.1 pasted "i bet the one that is 20 char in length is the problem" (20 lines) at http://paste.koha-community.org/143
18:50 jcamins_away If you're not lucky, I suggest going through the database's pockets and looking for loose change.
18:49 jcamins_away I should mention- if you're *lucky* that barcode exists.
18:49 jcamins_away Use SELECT MAX(barcode)
18:48 nengard Empty set (0.00 sec)
18:48 nengard        mysql> select barcode from items where barcode like '3.899%';
18:48 jcamins_away Your problem barcode is literally "3.89924798249022e+18" or something like that.
18:47 jcamins_away nengard: the database can't store more than the maximum number of characters.
18:47 oleonard xx226648-108820 instead :)
18:47 nengard :)
18:47 oleonard Oh you're right nengard I had my dbs switched
18:47 nengard and can i query any codes above that?
18:46 nengard what is the max number of characters allowed?
18:46 nengard how about a count of characters
18:46 jcamins_away There was a ticket about that with Masscat.
18:46 nengard the number it gave me is not super high
18:46 nengard right
18:46 jcamins_away Also, MAX() with strings does weird things.
18:46 nengard nuh uh - those are what i had when i first wrote the report
18:45 jcamins_away Barcode is a string.
18:45 oleonard Oh those aren't yours, those are all mine :)
18:45 jcamins_away Right, you can't do a sort on barcode.
18:45 nengard after i gave you the dump
18:45 nengard oleonard, i fixed those :)
18:44 pastebot "nengard" at 127.0.0.1 pasted "see the 3rd to last number - it's not in order and these can't be the highest numbers if that's what's happening with my auto barcode generator thingy :)" (18 lines) at http://paste.koha-community.org/142
18:44 oleonard ^^ that's some awesome barcode garbage I have
18:44 pastebot "oleonard" at 127.0.0.1 pasted "Top barcodes" (16 lines) at http://paste.koha-community.org/141
18:43 jcamins_away Or MAX(barcode) or whatever the field is.
18:43 jcamins_away nengard: SELECT MAX(barcodes) from items
18:43 nengard hang on i'll do a paste
18:42 oleonard The sort should work. What do you get instead of the highest number?
18:42 nengard unless i'm on the wrong track
18:42 nengard when my barcode generator gives me a code it's always 3.89924798249022e+19 and i want to update my highest number so that stops
18:42 nengard okay, silly question, how can i find out what my highest barcode number is? I tried a report sorting by barcode desc and it's not working ?

17:17 martian523 sorry!
17:17 martian523 i found the answer
17:17 martian523 never mind
17:16 martian523 what happened to the other 2?
17:15 martian523 but when editing item, there's only 1 reference

17:14 martian523 ok...now i have another one
17:12 martian523 thanks
17:11 maximep you should have hours unit
17:11 maximep look in circulation rules
17:11 martian523 really? maybe i missed it, i'm using 3.8
17:10 maximep hourly loans are in 3.8
17:09 martian523 or is it still under construction?
17:08 martian523 has koha set up the hourly circulation policies yet?
17:07 martian523 hi, just a quick question
17:04 wizzyrea or would a full reindex be a better route?
17:03 wizzyrea (i.e. not just doing a full reindex for each batch)
17:03 wizzyrea (assuming you're not going to do them all at once, and let the zebraqueue handle them)
17:03 wizzyrea we want to match modify/import batches of records for catalog cleanup - what, do you think, on a light load catalog, is the maximum number you'd want to do at one time to keep zebra happy?

16:10 jcamins_away They mixed MARC-8 and UTF-8.
16:09 oleonard There's another record which is the same either way. In MarcEdit the author looks like "Th?y, Kim" And the same in Koha after import
16:09 jcamins_away ^^ the MARC must die dance
16:09 jcamins_away \o/
16:08 oleonard Okay, so re-importing and specifying MARC-8 corrected that record.
16:04 jcamins_away I might have it backwards, but I don't think so.
16:03 jcamins_away I think.
16:03 jcamins_away MarcEdit defaults to MARC-8, and Koha defaults to UTF-8.
16:02 jcamins_away oleonard: you imported it as UTF-8 when it was actually MARC-8.
16:01 oleonard Did we get bad MARC data from our vendor? Is Koha interpreting the data incorrectly?
16:00 oleonard What's going on?
16:00 oleonard On the left, the record staged in Koha. On the right, the .mrc file in MarcEdit: http://screencast.com/t/aixGrcN1Ae
15:55 jcamins_away nengard: you can insert the link resolver using jQuery, pulling the information required from CoINs.
15:53 jcamins_away nengard: OpenURL requires an outside link resolver. Koha does handle SRU/SRW.
15:52 nengard oleonard i have info in the manual about what analytics are
15:51 nengard SRW
15:51 nengard what about SRU/WRW
15:51 nengard anyone know if Koha is compliant with Open URL?
15:22 jcamins_away Sadly I can't figure out how to tell the site that it's a movie not audio.

15:20 drojf heh
15:20 oleonard jcamins_away: If only there was a way to save a "re-cording" of that time and somehow play it back in the present
15:20 wizzyrea hehe oleonard re: game of thrones
15:19 jcamins_away oleonard: someone did this presentation on analytics for KohaCon12...
15:19 * oleonard guesses he'll have to learn what analytics are for now
15:18 wizzyrea of course it is brilliant. ;)
15:18 wizzyrea sorry jcamins, it had not occurred to me (and it is quite brilliant) to use analytics for that
15:18 oleonard Maybe if we did that too I'd have gotten to see some Game of Thrones by now
15:17 wizzyrea so we let them, but make them do extra work. :P
15:17 wizzyrea ^^ I would prefer this, but some libraries, concerned about the sets being out for weeks, want to split them
15:17 oleonard We didn't solve the problem, but we also don't split up DVD sets, so the problem is lesser now that VHS is going away
15:17 drojf lol
15:17 wizzyrea in one system
15:16 wizzyrea ah the joys of collaborating 42 public libraries.
15:16 wizzyrea and if there is a full set, they can get that too.
15:16 wizzyrea if they want disc *, they can get it
15:16 wizzyrea I think our method works ok - it muddies up the catalog but at least it's good for the patrons
15:15 oleonard We didn't
15:15 wizzyrea how did you solve it, oleonard?
15:15 wizzyrea which is discrete from "breaking bad, season one, disc 1"
15:14 wizzyrea so you can get "breaking bad, season one (full set)"
15:14 wizzyrea and those records are separate from the ones where libraries choose not to split them up
15:14 drojf heh not sure what we are going to do with those because people don't like whole season boxes go away for weeks
15:14 oleonard wizzyrea: Around here we call that the "pride and prejudice" problem after the multi-volume VHS set popular several years ago
15:14 wizzyrea <items>
15:14 wizzyrea disc*
15:13 wizzyrea breaking bad, season one, disk 1
15:13 wizzyrea so we finally cataloged them all separately
15:13 drojf jcamins_away: the data is not even in koha yet. as long as i get it in "somehow" I am happy, that might have to be enough happiness :D
15:13 wizzyrea very, very frustrating for patrons.
15:13 wizzyrea because since we don't allow item specific holds, they would request a hold for Breaking Bad (for example) and be wanting disc 2, but they would get disc 1 because they couldn't specify which disc to get.
15:12 wizzyrea for different discs
15:12 wizzyrea when they had items on the same set
15:12 wizzyrea and it was confusing for patrons
15:12 wizzyrea some of our libraries split up the sets
15:12 jcamins_away But use EasyAnalytics to make the patrons happy.
15:12 wizzyrea NEKLS has a similar problem with things like TV series DVD's
15:11 jcamins_away drojf: that's the correct way to do things.
15:11 jcamins_away Got it.
15:11 wizzyrea (as I understand it)
15:11 wizzyrea :(
15:11 wizzyrea drojf: that was the way koha was originally designed, until we put MARC in and broke it.
15:11 drojf i try to keep the parent as minimal as possible. since there is not a single author for all the videos, i would prefer to have none for the parent. and was wondering wether that would make marc mad
15:10 jcamins_away And specifically the EasyAnalytics use case.
15:10 jcamins_away You're describing analytics.
15:09 jcamins_away Yes, what does the 1xx have to do with anything?
15:09 drojf jcamins_away: we have dvds with several titles. i want to have a parent titled "dvd XY" or something and link the "real" titles of the videos to the parent. so the parent has one item, the children have none, so people know they cannot get "video a" if it is on the same disk as "video b" and that disk is borrowed. does that make sense?
15:08 reiveune1 bye
15:07 drojf lol oleonard
15:07 oleonard He is drojf, but he's shouting from far away
15:07 jcamins_away drojf: sort of away. What are you trying to do?
15:06 drojf btw, you are not really away
15:06 drojf cool, thanks jcamins_away
15:05 jcamins_away drojf: 1xx fields are optional.
15:05 drojf can i skip MARC21 field 100 etc if i make a dummy entry to hang other biblios on? or will MARC come to get me?
14:45 eythian You heard me, oleonard
14:44 oleonard Eh?
14:43 eythian Øarsome
14:43 wizzyrea October 29 :)
14:43 eythian wizzyrea: when do you hit civilisation?
14:33 * wizzyrea giggles
14:26 wahanui OK, eythian.
14:26 eythian wahanui: schnell is <reply>I know nozink!
14:25 wizzyrea schnell.
14:24 wahanui okay, eythian.
14:24 eythian no wahanui, slides is kf has written her slides.
14:23 wahanui kf should be writing slides. Get to it! Schnell!
14:23 eythian slides?
14:22 wahanui Germs originated in Germany, before rapidly spreading throughout the rest of the world.
14:22 eythian germs?
14:22 oleonard Magic.
14:21 wahanui what's up, eythian
14:21 eythian wahanui: hello
14:20 eythian wah<tab>...damn
14:11 nengard and it's a bit messy :) but I'll send you a dump
14:11 nengard it's not much
14:10 oleonard nengard: I would gratefully accept
14:09 nengard oleonard i can give you my serials ?
14:02 * oleonard wishes, again, for serials sample data
14:01 oleonard And it violates capitalization guidelines :P
14:00 oleonard I'm guessing it's not controlled by a pref because I didn't turn one on and I see the tab.
14:00 oleonard It doesn't go away if you have no routing lists
13:59 * nengard is working on the manual again
13:59 nengard does anyone know if the new routing lists tab on the patron record in master is controlled by a preference? does it go away if you have no routing lists?
13:51 oleonard Hi wizzyrea

11:19 magnuse i love it when customers report problems that there is already a fix for - this time it was bug 8251

10:46 mveron hi drojf, it is very interesting.
10:42 Oak yup :)
10:42 eythian oh
10:42 eythian why?
10:41 drojf i hope you did not plan to look at sandboxes tomorrow
10:40 drojf how is the workshop going?
10:40 drojf hi mveron
10:33 mveron hi eythian
10:33 eythian hi mveron
10:30 rangi hi cait
10:30 cait hi all
10:27 rangi hehe
10:26 eythian (she's watching me type!)
10:25 eythian cait says it did, but I don't know if she's trustworthy
10:24 eythian I think it did, though I'm biased :)
10:23 rangi cool :) did it go ok?
10:18 * eythian has completed his first talk
10:15 magnuse yup, that's how we stay sane ;-)
10:15 drojf heh. i like how people cope with that. when i've been to umeå everybody was running around in tshirts when it was 15°. they celebrate the summer they get :)
10:13 magnuse anything above 15 is good
10:12 magnuse drojf: well, we expect to have a few days over 20C during a summer
10:00 drojf what's a good summer termperature for bodø? i've only seen it in winter

09:45 drojf kf is not even logged in to the irc. serious business
09:35 * magnuse wishes eythian and kf the best of luck - have fun!
09:20 Barrc1 it looks like you can set overrides in the virtual hosts and use host headers to resolve to the correct site - seems straight forward but I haven't tried it yet!
09:17 drojf i think you can create several instances of koha using the same db. having just one koha instance with multiple opacs sounds not like something you can achieve easily. but that's more my feeling, i never thought about doing that. maybe others have some ideas
09:13 Barrc1 drojf: Multiple for one Koha instance (sorry, should have been clearer!)
09:12 drojf Barrc1: multiple opacs for one database? or multiple koha installations?
09:11 Barrc1 Morning..... I am starting to look at publishing multiple OPACs (limited to library, CSS unique etc) and wondering if this is just a straight forward virtualhost config? Anyone have any gotchas or experience with this!?
09:03 drojf eythian: i can live with that :P
09:02 eythian drojf: we determined that it was your fault
08:59 rangi good luck
08:58 drojf late? deutsche bahn? never!
08:58 eythian Setting up now, probably in 5-10
08:57 rangi how long before the workshop starts?
08:57 rangi ahhh
08:57 eythian dunno, only just arrived, the train was late
08:57 rangi hows stuttgart eythian ?
08:55 drojf          rangi++
08:54 rangi that's that sorted
08:54 drojf yay
08:54 rangi yep found it eventually
08:54 drojf could that be found in the email headers somewhere maybe?
08:53 drojf tricky
08:52 rangi however the one that is still bouncing must be subscribed under something else, and that address redirects
08:51 rangi hmm all comcast ppl have been suspended for excessive bounces, 9 of them
08:50 drojf fun fact: each progress bar in the process of staging and importing marc records via tools in koha seems to be broken in a different way
08:48 rangi :(
08:48 drojf hm. it appears my solar charge controller does not give out enough current on the usb connection to power the raspberry pi. still no self sustaining koha in a box :(
08:44 drojf rangi: i'm afraid i have to agree, from my experience. but i mostly blame kde if something stops working for me

08:25 magnuse yay
08:25 rangi should be on a faster piece of internet
08:24 magnuse rangi: works from norway too :-) maybe a little faster than it used to be too?
08:22 rangi wanted to check all resolving good for the outside world

08:21 drojf ok
08:21 drojf 76508 results for a search for "a"
08:21 rangi nope thats all i needed
08:21 drojf website is loading. anything else to try?
08:20 rangi can i get a test please, www.library.org.nz working ok?
07:53 paul_p still 100 mails to deal with before i'm back to pushing patches ...

07:53 magnuse kia ora paul_p!
07:33 WaqarAzeem nice effort...
07:22 alex_a :)
07:22 alex_a WaqarAzeem: It would be nice to make koha works on a framework such as perl Dancer i.e. But i've tried to do this and it's very hard !
07:20 alex_a :)
07:20 alex_a Okay!
07:18 WaqarAzeem it's ok
07:17 alex_a WaqarAzeem: I'm not sure to understand your question :s
07:15 WaqarAzeem Perl used as the programming language for Koha. I am wondering how to setup an local environment to play around with it.
07:12 WaqarAzeem yeah!
07:07 alex_a WaqarAzeem: hello
07:07 alex_a WaqarAzeem: You mean with koha ?
07:03 WaqarAzeem Hello! Along with Perl... is there any framework is also used? like python with django for web apps.
06:33 drojf good morning #koha
06:28 alex_a Salut Oak !
