03:45 * Brooke_ mulls over precisely how much reading would needs be done to understand partitioning properly...
03:46 mtj just enuff to choose 'all' :)
03:46 mtj 1, all, yes ...
03:46 Brooke_ yeah, that won't do it, unfortunately...
03:47 Brooke_ you'd think that buying Linux its own drive to play on would have made life easier
03:47 Brooke_ but nooooooo
03:47 * Brooke_ lets loose some naval class swears *again*
03:48 mtj heh, ive been dropping the f-bomb recently too
03:48 * Brooke_ titters at mj's idea of naval class swearing.
03:49 mtj feels pretty good, i gotta say..
03:49 Brooke_ bah, lock ye in a wee metal tube for a few months underwater and ye'll do better in time, laddy.
03:50 * mtj turns up the public-enemy
03:50 Brooke_ hehehe

05:47 ibeardslee evening ;)
05:48 * ibeardslee needs to head home of the eqnz stuff today
07:02 cait good morning paul_ü
07:02 cait paul_p
07:44 magnuse so how long did it take from someone reported a security vulnerability and until 3.2.5 was out?
07:56 francharb hello #koha
08:00 magnuse hiya francharb
08:01 kf good morning #koha
08:03 francharb morning magnuse, kf ;)
08:05 magnuse hiya kf and paul_p
08:07 kf hi francharb, magnuse and paul_p
08:14 rangi Less than a day magnuse
08:14 rangi Bout 16 hours
08:19 magnuse thanks, cool! floss ftw! ;-)
08:21 kf :)
08:21 kf talking about 3.0.5?
08:21 kf hi rangi
08:21 magnuse or 3.2.5 ;-)
08:21 kf oh right
08:23 magnuse and it was reported by someone in france, fixed by someone in the us and double checked by someone in nz?
08:25 rangi Pretty much yep
08:27 kf :)
08:28 kf is there a way to check for other problems like that?
08:32 magnuse and it's cool that the problem was discovered not because someone took advantage of a vulnerability, but because someone was able to inspect the source code
08:35 rangi We went on a hunt a while back that one must have snuck in
08:36 rangi Its always worth making sure placeholders are used
08:37 rangi Anytime you are editing a file its worth checking
08:37 * magnuse wonders how hard it would be to write a script that would look for variable interpolation in SQL statements... probably non-trivial...
08:38 rangi Yeah
08:45 thd good morning paul_p
08:46 * magnuse suddenly remembers he hasn't had breakfast yet
08:46 thd Who administers git.koha-community.org?
08:47 * magnus_breakfast thinks it would be neat if the list at the bottom here http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Main_Page also said who hosts what...
08:48 * thd looks at what is listed there
08:49 mtj magnus_breakfast: bywater hosts http://git.koha-community.org/
08:49 mtj one of the many helpful things bywater does for the Koha project
08:50 thd mtj: Do you know the pupose of the flashing button at the top of http://git.koha-community.org?
08:51 mtj what flashing button?

08:52 kf hi kmkale
08:53 kmkale hi kf
08:53 thd mtj: Sorry, that seems to be a problem with my browser.
08:53 thd mtj: some strange graphics substitution.
09:01 thd mtj: Has everyone known to be involved in Koha in NZ and people dearest to them survived the earthquake unharmed?
09:03 mtj as far as i know...
09:03 mtj there's still a lot of people unaccounted for :/
09:04 thd mtj: Is Wellington prone to earthquakes?
09:06 mtj yeah, apparently
09:11 rangi We had a huge one in 1840

09:18 rangi theres not a lot you can do to prepare for an 8
09:19 * thd 's father had been head of design and safety of dams in California.
09:19 rangi having said that, i did make sure all our water bottles are full
09:19 magnuse sounds like a good precaution!
09:21 thd After my father retired from the California Department of Water Resources he did some work on earth quake preparedness for Los Angeles in the 1980s.
09:22 thd Los Angeles has multiple major faults and had had major earthquakes but had no emergency plan specifically for earthquakes in the early 1980s.

15:47 wizzyrea atz__: in case you were wondering if having a blog was worthwhile: it totally is, as you have just gotten the kansas contingent of overdrive users all in a tizzy.
15:48 oleonard It was a good post: http://atzberger.blogspot.com/2011/02/new-overdrive-drm-terms-this-message.html
15:48 oleonard Although part of me wants to say "What did you expect from OverDrive?"
15:49 wizzyrea I agree with that, but it still sucks, and I feel like people are ignoring it
15:49 wizzyrea "well that's the price of being able to offer digital content"
15:49 wizzyrea uh, no
15:57 gmcharlt though the alternative to OverDrive is libraries organizing themselves to work with the publishers collectively
15:57 * slef applauds gmcharlt for the various patching work
15:57 rhcl we just bought into Overdrive, and I am personally not at all happy.
15:57 slef gmcharlt: they could form an Online Centre for Library Collective bargaining... oh, wait, ...
15:57 gmcharlt at the moment, I get the impression that the publishers like working with OverDrive because it is a single entity to talk to
15:58 rhcl It is so totally locked up, and doesn't work with Linux at all.
15:58 gmcharlt libraries working individually would be betting *much* worse terms from the ebook publishers, I think
15:58 gmcharlt so I believe that any solution that's better for libraries than OverDrive has to be done collectively
15:58 rhcl I've let it be known that Overdrive as a toll free help number, and that's who they should call when the angry patrons start coming in.
15:58 slef rhcl: we lost the platform-neutrality argument with DVDs sadly :-(
15:58 gmcharlt slef: instant trademark lawsuit! ;)
15:59 slef gmcharlt: bah, trademarks are an anti-competitive monopoly. Someone should accuse OCLC of that sort of thing ;-)
16:00 slef rhcl: is there a polite way to say "we told you so"?
16:00 rhcl Well, with DVDs -- those are going the way of the floppy--everything is a digital file now, either on a thumb drive or a stream from the cloud.
16:00 gmcharlt slef: heh. there is a rather an irony that SkyRiver, which is a creature of III, that's in fact the one doing that in the US courts
16:00 slef gmcharlt: oh, there's so much irony in that dispute we could mine it and make steel!
16:01 slef (or would that be steely?)
16:01 gmcharlt slef: the muppets version of "any old iron" just came to mind :)
16:05 slef hrm, tried to comment on atz__ blog, but I've no idea if it went through or not. Definitely didn't appear on the page.
16:05 slef I was trying to suggest maybe DxD would run a petition like http://www.defectivebydesign.org/amazon1984 for it.
16:07 atz__ slef: not seeing your comment. not running moderation on comments either, so idk.

17:09 nengard what preference makes it so that when you click on a subject heading or author it does an autority search instead of a subject search
17:31 * wizzyrea pats oleonard
17:31 oleonard :)
17:32 wizzyrea btw, the sound cues are quite ear pleasing
17:32 wizzyrea very melodious
17:32 oleonard The sound cues were not my thing, if that's what you mean
17:32 wizzyrea no
17:33 wizzyrea that's something totally different
17:33 wizzyrea           just sayin;
17:33 wizzyrea '
17:33 oleonard I didn't think my staff would like them but they mostly do.
17:38 * oleonard is thinking about how one might control the volume of the sounds and set it in a cookie

17:56 tcohen anyone with a few seconds to explain the use of link_bibs_to_authorities.pl
17:56 tcohen ??
17:56 tcohen (is it safe?)
18:01 tcohen ok, i'll read the code
18:03 jcamins_away tcohen: I wouldn't.
18:03 jcamins_away (use it)
18:03 * oleonard hates that there are things in Koha that we shouldn't use. We should take them out.
18:04 jcamins_away Or fix them.
18:04 tcohen LinkBibHeadingsToAuthorities doesn't look bad
18:06 tcohen you mean like removing zebraqueue?
18:06 tcohen :D
18:06 tcohen (zerbaqueue_daemon i mean)
18:07 nengard oleonard did you have an issue after upgrading virtualbox?
18:07 nengard it keeps prompting me to upgrade, but i remember others having issues
18:07 nengard so i've held off
18:07 jcamins_away nengard: my upgrade seemed to work fine.
18:08 nengard good stuff
18:08 jcamins_away But then, my VM is broken half the time anyway, so how would I know?
18:08 nengard hehe
18:08 tcohen nengard: oleonard had to tell virtualbox to forget "saved states" about usb's or something
18:09 tcohen jcamins: is there any reported bug around link_bibs_to... ?
18:10 jcamins_away tcohen: no, because I can't clearly identify any problem with it. It just seems to cause problems.
18:11 jcamins_away Wow.
18:11 jcamins_away It just got *black* out.
18:12 tcohen ok, i'll do some test and report back if I find something
18:12 tcohen have a nice weekend #koha
18:15 fcapo There's bug 5410 :/
18:15 huginn 04Bug http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=5410 normal, PATCH-Sent, ---, fcapovilla, ASSIGNED, "Right truncation not supported" error when running link_bibs_to_authorities.pl
18:19 oleonard nengard: I had to discard my VM's saved state after upgrading
18:20 nengard i'm not sure what that means - but i'll upgrade and you can tell me :) hehe
18:20 oleonard I would shut down your vm all the way first
18:27 nengard oo it's fancy
18:28 nengard okay how do i clear the saved state - cause i got a usb error
18:28 jcamins_away If you don't use USB, couldn't you just disable it?
18:28 jcamins_away (just guessing)
18:29 oleonard right-click on that VM's entry I think
18:33 nengard jcamins - my mouse is usb
18:34 jcamins_away nengard: VirtualBox cares?
18:34 jcamins_away I have a USB keyboard and mouse, and never noticed it being a problem that I had disabled USB.
18:34 nengard hmmm
18:38 * jcamins_away isn't an expert, though.
18:55 tcohen the usb devices are "passed" directly to the virtual machine to handle them
18:55 tcohen BUT
18:55 tcohen that's not true for input devices
18:56 tcohen as virtualbox does some extra stuff for using them in the host OS
19:46 wizzyrea rhcl: about?
19:47 wizzyrea generally: with envisionware does anybody know if it pulls the PIN From the opac login?
19:47 wizzyrea or somewhere else
19:48 * jcamins_away does not know.
19:48 wizzyrea I honestly cannot think of another field that it would use
19:48 wizzyrea envisionware = SIP, if that triggers an alert for anybody :P
19:49 * jcamins_away knows that libraries are using it successfully with Koha, though.
19:49 wizzyrea the PIN?
19:49 jcamins_away No, Envisionware.
19:49 wizzyrea we use envisionware and it works passably enough
19:49 jcamins_away Sorry.
19:49 wizzyrea :) sok
20:14 rhcl I'm here
20:15 rhcl AFAIK Envisionware sends the login ID and PIN to the ILS server just like most other things.
20:15 rhcl Was that not the question though?
20:16 wizzyrea yep that was the question
20:16 wizzyrea so it's the opac login?
20:16 wizzyrea for user/pass
20:16 wizzyrea pin
20:16 wizzyrea ty for the info rhcl
20:16 rhcl What's the difference between an OPAC login and the regular Koha library card/PIN?
20:17 rhcl We looked at Envisionware for a while, and actually had a couple of personal demos at trade shows.
20:18 rhcl If you are OK with a closed, proprietary system Envisionware looks like it has more polish and is better put together than most other PAC access systems.
20:18 rhcl But I pretty much prefer Libki these days--I have total control over both the server and the clients.
20:19 rhcl Envisionware is one of those systems where you are totally dependent on them, don't open the box or it'll explode.
20:20 rhcl It's also better accessorized than some others--they have integrated copiers, printers, coffee pots, etc.
20:21 rhcl And if I remember right they also have the automated book return sorter thingers.
20:21 wizzyrea I don't really have a say in what they use
20:21 wizzyrea my libraries are buying envisionware
20:21 * jcamins_away giggles at the idea of a coffee pot controlled by SIP.
20:21 wizzyrea tee hee
20:21 rhcl Expensive, but with the "closed system" caveat Envisionware seems to work well.
20:22 * jcamins_away imagines someone coming into the office and going to get a cup of coffee only to be told "too many fines. Please see circulation desk."
20:23 rhcl You know, that's an idea really. These access systems can accept cash via coin and bill machines, and can maintain a credit balance....
20:24 jcamins_away Or even better "your coffee mug has been recalled. Please return to the circulation desk immediately."
20:24 rhcl so that patrons can print without paying, with the cost deducted from their on-line balance.
20:24 wizzyrea haha
20:24 wizzyrea alright: http://wizzyrea.wordpress.com/2011/02/25/content-middlemen-we-need-your-help/
20:24 * wizzyrea shamelessly self promotes
20:24 jcamins_away rhcl: it makes sense. I'm just enjoying the image of someone being denied a cup of coffee because they don't return their books.
20:24 rhcl Why couldn't you have a pay coffee machine which SIP accesses an ILS database and deducts 95 cents for money?
20:24 * wizzyrea imagines lending coffee
20:25 * wizzyrea wonders what the return chute would look like
20:25 rhcl Or if it was a simple overdue book, maybe the could get black coffee, but not cream and sugar???? Works for me.
20:26 rhcl Heck, I'll bet Overdrive could figure out a way to lend coffee cups and have them auto-disintegrate after 14 days.
20:28 rhcl But they probably wouldn't work with Linux....
20:34 jcamins_away Hey, does anyone know if it's possible to tell Zebra to only find matches for two terms in the *same* field?
20:34 * jcamins_away is thinking about relator terms.
20:35 chris_n wizzyrea:LOL
