03:27 Amit good morning #koha
03:27 brendan hi amit
03:28 brendan how's india cricket doing?
03:29 Amit india win against srilanka by 3 runs
03:29 Amit india score 414 in 50 over and SL 411 in 50 over
03:29 Amit very interesting match
03:31 brendan did you see that NZ was rained out - at the end of yesterdays test
04:47 schuster Hey all - question about git and actually using the git.
04:48 schuster how does the software know which directory to use? or change to koha or kohaclone? when in the software interface?
04:49 brendan schuster - http://www.amazon.com/Version-Control-Git-Collaborative-Development/dp/0596520123/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1260938858&sr=8-1 is a "ok" start
04:50 brendan sorry that's the lame answer
04:50 schuster I take it that is a recommendation... ;)
04:50 brendan :)
04:51 schuster I now have 3.0 in one directory and 3.2 git in another so I was trying to figure out how to launch it so I can actually play with 3.2 to see if there are other things I want adjusted before it goes live.
04:52 brendan git will keep track of everything you tell it to keep track of (with a command like git-add or git-commit)
04:52 schuster I'll go over to the archives and dig around.
04:52 brendan so how was the 3.0 installed -- with the tarball?
04:53 schuster 3.0 install tarball yes.
04:53 brendan ah... I may not be much help then -- one of those " I think I'd give a better answer with hands on"
04:54 brendan usually I keep them (tarballs and git) separate
04:55 schuster Thanks anyway. I'll go look and maybe tomorrow there will be some others around. You work some odd schedules!
06:41 CGI231 hi anbbody out there. who could clarify my doubts on koha over linux
06:45 chris its always better to ask your question, rather than asking about asking :-)
06:50 CGI231 yep. i am interested in confiruing koha over linux platform. with my koha running in linux, my end users will they be able to search the catalogues from a windows machine . is this support there in koha...
06:50 chris yes
06:50 Amit yes u can
06:50 chris koha is a web application

06:51 CGI231 thanx for the info. things required for koha in linux...apache, mysql.. and is koha supported for all distributions of linux or is it debian support only..
06:51 chris it works on all
06:52 chris but most of/all of the developers use debian
06:52 chris you are best to use whatever distro you are most familiar with
06:53 CGI231 ok ..i do have a debian machine.. any other issues which one may encounter when installing koha over linux...
06:53 chris if you follow the INSTALL.debian-lenny instructions
06:53 chris you should be fine
06:53 CGI231 its a generic questions...i am downloading...i thought let me get the commonly encountered issues ..so kindly bear with the generic nature of the qeustion...
06:54 CGI231 aacha ok its a read me file available with the download...right...

09:58 nahuel :)
09:58 nahuel somebody is here :)
09:59 nahuel koncom, CDS/ISIS have a really strange format, and they don't use MARC21 as I know... You should convert records to MARC21
09:59 nahuel CGI197, have you a firewall ?
09:59 nahuel or proxy ?
09:59 nahuel or anything that can block connexions
10:17 koncom Nahuel how do I convert the records to marc21
10:23 kf koncom: you can use a tool like marcedit to convert data to marc21
10:24 kf koncom: there is some information in the wiki about CDS/ISIS and koha http://wiki.koha.org/doku.php?id=en:documentation:migration:cds-isis:cds-isis_1-5_to_koha_2-x&s[]=isis
10:33 kf paul_p: runtime parameters in reports - great feature! :)
10:54 Ropuch guten Tag :)
10:54 kf guten Tag Ropuch :) Wie geht es dir?

11:16 nahuel and all
11:16 Amit nahuel: migration from CDS/ISIS to MARC is very easy
11:16 nahuel depends :)

11:28 greenmang0 hello everyone ... can anybody mail me /usr/share/koha/opac/cgi-bin/opac/opac-search.pl file?
11:28 greenmang0 masonj: ^^
11:29 greenmang0 abhishekamberkar@gmail.com
11:29 hdl_laptop you can get that on git.koha.org
11:29 hdl_laptop hi
11:30 masonj http://git.koha.org/cgi-bin/gitweb.cgi?p=Koha;a=blob;f=opac/opac-search.pl;h=344f1683422d837135888b540e44fac7704359f3;hb=HEAD
11:30 masonj ;)
11:34 greenmang0 thanks hdl_laptop masonj..
11:34 greenmang0 i actually screwed up my original opac-search.pl
11:34 greenmang0 but new file and original file has lot of differences in code :(
11:35 hdl_laptop you should use dev install for such usage
11:35 hdl_laptop and git
11:36 greenmang0 hdl_laptop: now opac-search isn't working ... i get this in koha-opac-error.log
11:36 greenmang0 http://paste.debian.net/54168/plain/54168
11:37 hdl_laptop set debugLevel to 1 and not 2
11:37 hdl_laptop maybe it is the branch you take that file from which is not your branch.
11:37 hdl_laptop      hb=HEAD => master
11:37 hdl_laptop      hb=3.0.x => 3.0 branch
11:38 greenmang0 hdl_laptop: my koha version is 3.00.01.005
11:38 hdl_laptop should be 3.0 branch then
11:38 hdl_laptop you are way back.
11:39 hdl_laptop find also the v3.00.01 branch
11:47 greenmang0 thanks hdl_laptop let me check
12:05 greenmang0 hdl_laptop: can you tell me why do i get this errror?
12:05 greenmang0 http://paste.debian.net/54168/plain/54168
12:27 tirabo koncom: I could see the CDS/ISISI ISO file
12:58 hugo Hello
12:59 hugo I've got a question about importing patron records
12:59 hugo The old program or library was using (Library World) seems to have exported the patron list as a Marc file
13:00 nahuel ^^
13:00 hugo is it straightforward to get this into Koha? On my first attempt it looked as if Koha was expecting a csv file...
13:00 nahuel you should write a perl script
13:00 nahuel using the koha's API
13:01 jwagner Is it a flat file with MARC tags? Or a true MARC format record?
13:02 hugo I don't know enough about Marc (this is all new to me!) to know if it's a flat file or a true MARC record. I'd guess flat - looks like a text file basically.
13:03 jwagner If you can open it in a text editor, it's a flat file.
13:03 hugo yes, it's flat then.
13:04 jwagner Then you should be able to write something as nahuel suggests, to parse the contents and put them into the format Koha is expecting.
13:05 jwagner In the staff client, under Tools, Import Patrons, you can download a sample .csv file to see the format Koha wants. Then massage your data to fit.
13:09 hugo Ah - OK, thank you. I will try that. I was hoping there was some way, since Koha seems to be fine with book records in MARC format, that it would do something nifty with a patron file in MARC records too.
13:30 schuster If it truely is a MARC file you could use MarcEdit to extract info into a text file to import into koha as well.
13:40 hugo Oh, right. I will try MarcEdit. Thank you.
13:56 Ropuch Hello again
13:57 owen Hi Ropuch and everyone
14:11 schuster Looking for opinions... We have had instances mainly between 8-9 in the morning when the system is overloaded that items are not getting checked in. The librarians assure me they see ALL the titles come up on the screen. My only thought is that I'm having IO issues.
14:13 schuster What are my best options to assist with this problem? More Memory? I'm running a Dell PowerEduge Smart 2950 III Quad Core Intel Xeon 2.5 GHz(2 processors), with 16 GB memory
14:14 schuster Between 7:45 and 9:30 in the morning my system usage doing a top goes from 1 to 7, I've seen it go to 12 for the average load 1 minute reading.
14:39 jdavidb schuster: I've got your koha-devel email in front of me, too. I would be really shocked if you were memory or CPU bound.
14:39 jdavidb Even as busy as you are, that memory/CPU pairing should be a-plenty.
14:41 jdavidb If you are IO bound, which is what I suspect, there are solutions, but none are quick flip-a-switch fixes. I don't remember your configuration that precisely, but I seem to remember lots of stuff getting put on one big filesystem.
14:43 jdavidb moving mysql's storage (usually /var/mysql) onto a separate drive or separate controller would possibly help. Moving Zebra away in a similar fashion may also be helpful.
14:45 jdavidb I don't know why an IO binding problem would cause data to not be getting updated, though; that's something really odd. An IO overload would make things *slow*, but it'd still work. Make sense?
14:47 schuster Yes it does make sense, but I'm just trying to figure out the best way to avoid *SLOW*
14:48 owen Wait... So *are* there situations where a check-in would appear to occur but really hadn't?
14:48 jdavidb I remember that little data center you've got there, schuster. during these peak loads, take a listen really close to the server; if you hear a lot of clitter-clatter and chattering noises from the drives, then you know there's a crapload of IO work going on. There's *always* gonna be some, but seek operations are pretty costly, time wise.
14:48 schuster goes to closet to listen
14:49 jdavidb owen: from his description, that seems to be the case. I can't imagine how, though.
14:50 Nate Hello All!
14:50 jdavidb Hi, Nate.
14:50 Nate hi jdavidb!
14:52 arturo8a morning
14:53 schuster lots of green flickering... 146 GB 10,000RPM SCSI 3 GBps drives RAID with 6 drives in all
14:54 schuster owen - that's what I'm trying to avoid, but my librarians are swearing they are seeing all the titles come up on the screen - and at this point I'm leaning toward believing them since it is multiple schools
14:56 schuster All in all we are pretty happy with Koha - and we have been tweaking things to make it even better for us(setup wise) so this has been a happy migration overall.
14:56 jdavidb Hm. Even 10K drives *can* be clobbered by too many seeks, though it takes a good pile of work to do so.
14:58 jdavidb If I recall, schuster, all six drives are set up in one herkin' huge RAID 5 set. I would think that would mitigate the seek problem somewhat.
14:58 jdavidb Hi, rhcl.
14:58 rhcl Hi hi!
14:59 jdavidb schuster: if you don't mind, do a df -k and pastebin it?
15:28 owen Bug 3785
15:28 munin 04Bug http://bugs.koha.org/cgi-bin/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=3785 critical, PATCH-Sent, ---, chris@bigballofwax.co.nz, ASSIGNED, New Install, no maxreserves setting, OPAC holds fail
15:28 owen I take it there should be a maxreserves system preference?
15:28 * owen doesn't have one
15:38 imp http://code.google.com/p/gource/wiki/Screenshots - search on the page for koha :)
15:45 kf owen: perhaps its not there because maxreserves are now in smart rules
15:45 kf ?
15:46 owen kf: Maybe so. Maybe I'm getting confused by the title of the bug report.
15:52 kf owen: perhaps its fails because there are no rules? (cant test here, just an idea)
16:01 owen Hmm.... Information in Bug 3864 says I can't set smart rules without a database update patch...
16:01 munin 04Bug http://bugs.koha.org/cgi-bin/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=3864 blocker, PATCH-Sent, ---, chris@bigballofwax.co.nz, ASSIGNED, Cannot place holds in staff client
16:03 * owen manually updates, gets smart-rules.pl working
16:04 owen Oooh, "clone rules," that one's new to me.
16:04 kf owen: saw your bug about unescaped html
16:05 kf owen: we add html to opac note by purpose... plz dont kill it
16:06 owen kf: That bug is specifically targeting titles
16:06 kf owen: ah, thx :)
16:06 * owen finds "clone rules" doesn't work :(
16:07 kf owen: r u testing a new installation or an update from 3.0.x?
16:07 owen new install
16:07 kf ah, ok. we had some problems iwth update, waiting for patches to be approved, so we can try to update again
16:08 kf but I have a new installation on my laptop at home I want to use for testing
16:08 kf enableopacsearchhistory (or similar) sys pref is missing there - do you have one?
16:18 owen Sorry kf, got a phone call
16:18 owen I'm checking my sys prefs now
16:18 owen "EnableOpacSearchHistory"
16:18 owen "Enable or disable opac search history"
16:18 owen Type: YesNo
16:22 kf owen: ah, strange, will check with my installation at home
16:23 owen kf: but this is git install of HEAD, not of 3.0.x
16:23 kf yes, mine too
16:23 owen Okay, I wasn't sure.
16:24 kf no, its good to check this. Perhaps I was just "blind" yesterday
16:31 Ropuch It's been a while since HEAD was updated
16:31 owen Hmm... still can't place holds.
16:37 hdl_laptop owen: have you applied patches meant to fix that before ?
16:38 kf ok, time to go home - bye #koha
16:39 owen hdl_laptop: I saw the patch about updating the issuingrules table
16:47 arturo8a hi
16:48 arturo8a anyone knows a way to acces koha - admin as a included folder?
16:48 arturo8a that means
16:49 arturo8a http://XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX/admin/ instead of http://XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX:8080/
16:51 owen arturo8a: That sounds like something that would be possible with some Apache configuration
16:52 owen arturo8a: If no one here knows the specifics (I don't) you could ask in an Apache-specific forum
16:56 chris schuster: you about?
16:59 hdl_laptop hi chris
17:00 chris hiya hdl_laptop
17:00 hdl_laptop already awoken ?
17:01 chris yep. have to go to the airport soon
17:02 owen Interesting... Looks like you can't clone issuing rules from "default" to a specific library
17:05 chris @later tell schuster iotop is a good way to see whats going on
17:05 munin chris: The operation succeeded.
17:09 owen I take it back...You can't clone issuing rules from "default" only if you start from admin/clone-rules.pl
17:17 hdl_laptop owen: agreed for search on suggestions.
17:18 hdl_laptop otherwise, we could try and have this as a multiple header just as for authorities.
18:23 schuster chris - I don't have iotop. Is that an apt-get option to install?
18:26 schuster jdavidb around?
18:27 * jdavidb is very round.
18:29 schuster no more holiday cookies and punch...
18:45 nengard so - yesterday I'm training a library and I notice that there is a 'Notices' tab on the patron record :) does anyone happen to have a populated list from that page they could take a screenshot of and send to me for the manual?
18:49 schuster WOW What version are they running!
18:57 nengard schuster - not them - me -i was using my install of HEAD
18:58 jwagner There has been a Messaging tab on the patron record for a while now, which despite the name has been showing notices sent. Sounds like it just got renamed?
18:59 nengard jwagner - not i have them both :)
18:59 nengard         not == no
19:17 zico hi
19:17 owen Hi zico
19:17 zico i mailed in koha mailing list... subject was "koha 3.0.4 + biblio records"
19:18 zico but... didn`t get answers!!!! but.. i need it badly
19:18 zico hello owen!
19:18 zico good to see u here
19:21 owen Unfortunately zico I'm not enough of an expert to answer your question. I have not encountered that problem before.
19:22 owen I also do not have a 3.0.4 test installation, so I can't try to duplicate your error.
19:23 Ropuch Uh, another 1% of staff translation done
19:25 zico owen: is there anyone who can help me? :(
19:25 zico I am using koha 3.0.4 under debian 5.0. The problem is in editing records. If we edit any records, after editing, it shows two same records, both are newly edited records.
19:26 zico After that, if we delete one item and if we search for that in OPAC; the error shows: Koha error The following fatal error has occurred: Can't call method "clone" on an undefined value at /usr/share/koha/lib/C4/XSLT.pm line 57. Apache Server version: Apache/2.2.9 (Debian) Server built: Jan 20 2009 17:29:25 Koha 3.00.04.019 Koha DB 3.0004019 MySQL mysql Ver 14.12 Distrib 5.0.51a, for debian-linux-gnu (i486) using r
19:26 zico this is the whole thing
19:28 owen zico: Do your records contain unusual unicode characters?
19:28 brendan zico - which browser are you using?
19:29 owen I found this email exchange: http://old.nabble.com/How-to-delete-a-record-after-entering-a-rare-unicode-character-td26021631.html
19:32 zico owen: what does it means? "unsual unicode characters?"?
19:32 zico brendan: firefox
19:33 richard hi
19:33 owen zico: In what language are most of your records?
19:33 brendan zico - thanks - I saw an error before with someone using IE and that caused two records to be put into the database (like your problem)
19:34 brendan the fix was to switch to firefox
19:37 zico brenden: cannot get your point
19:37 zico are you saying that, chaning web browser will solve my problem?
19:38 brendan zico - I think you are fine, it is best to use firefox
19:39 brendan zico have you filed a bug for your problem?
19:41 zico brendan: how about the second problem?
19:41 zico After that, if we delete one item and if we search for that in OPAC; the error shows: Koha error The following fatal error has occurred: Can't call method "clone" on an undefined value at /usr/share/koha/lib/C4/XSLT.pm line 57. Apache Server version: Apache/2.2.9 (Debian) Server built: Jan 20 2009 17:29:25 Koha 3.00.04.019 Koha DB 3.0004019 MySQL mysql Ver 14.12 Distrib 5.0.51a, for debian-linux-gnu (i486) using r
19:42 owen zico: The errors appears on the search results page, or on the detail page for the title you clicked on from the results page?
19:45 zico owen: search results page
19:46 owen zico: Do you have the XSLTResultsDisplay system preference turned on?
19:46 owen If so, try turning it off. I'd be interested to know if you get a similar error.
19:47 zico owen: i don`t think that.. i did it! i mean.. disable XSLTResultsDisplay
19:48 sekjal zico: looks like a Zebra issue to me.
19:48 sekjal are you running Zebra, and if so, what flags are you using with your cronjob?
19:49 zico sekjal: i am using this in cron
19:49 zico */1 * * * * KOHA_CONF=/etc/koha/koha-conf.xml PERL5LIB=/usr/share/koha/lib /usr/share/koha/bin/migration_tools/rebuild_zebra.pl -b -z >/dev/null
19:51 sekjal hmmm.... that looks fine, though its more frequent than mine...
19:53 zico hey... some days ago... i faced same problem in koha-3.0.1
19:53 zico someone answered this problem with
19:54 zico "stop zebraqueue and run rebuild_zebra.pl -a -b -r
19:54 zico i did it now in new koha...but... it hasn`t solved
19:59 sekjal zico: I believe the -r flag got change to -reset for rebuild_zebra.pl between 3.0.1 and 3.0.4
19:59 sekjal perhaps trying the full reindex again with rebuild_zebra.pl -b -reset
20:06 zico sekjal: full reindex with rebuild_zebra.pl -b -reset?
20:08 sekjal did the recommendation to run rebuild_zebra.pl -a -b -r work for your problem with 3.0.1?
20:08 sekjal if so, you'd need to change that to rebuild_zebra.pl -a -b -reset to work in 3.0.4, I believe
20:14 zico sekjal: :)
20:15 zico sekjal: will rebuild_zebra.pl -a -b -reset works? is there any difference between -r & -reset?
20:15 sekjal -r is the older flag, and -reset is the current flag. I'm not sure why it changed; the documentation doesn't reflect it
20:17 sekjal but the code I've pulled from Git doesn't recognize -r anymore, so the change must have occurred at some point...
20:18 schuster git question - so I have 3.01.00.002 on this computer in my office and I just did a git clone git://git.koha.org/pub/scm/koha.git kohaclone
20:20 schuster if i cd kohaclone - then git checkout -b mywork origin - when I log into koha will I be seeing the clone or how do I get to that point for testing 3.2? or do I have to do something totally different?
20:20 Ropuch The repo you cloned is current HEAD
20:22 owen schuster: Where is 3.0.1.00.002 installed? Was that a standard installation?
20:23 schuster standard install
20:25 Ropuch HEAD install (with en only) is so fast ;>
20:26 owen schuster: And are you wanting to preserve your 3.01.00.002 installation for testing?
20:44 chris back
20:50 Ropuch wb chris
20:58 chris thanks
21:01 owen Here's an error from my log I've never seen before: "Extra content at the end of the document"
21:02 chris heh thats a new one
21:02 collum Sounds like an XML error
21:03 owen Oh yeah, I missed the beginning of the line of that error: " :9: parser error : Extra content at the end of the document"
21:03 chris yeah so </xml> then some other stuff
21:03 chris good catch collum
21:03 owen I'm assuming it's related to this one: "addorder.pl: Indicator in 952 is empty at /home/oleonard/kohaclone/C4/Biblio.pm line 1836"
21:04 owen Which I think occurred because I tried to add an item along with a new order, an item with no barcode.
21:04 owen (at least going back and adding a barcode number made it work)
21:10 collum chris: thanks. And with that it's time to go home.
21:15 owen Me too!
21:17 schuster owen - thanks - got called a way for a phone call. This is on a test server so I dont' care about maintaining anything.
21:18 schuster Ah drat just missed him.
21:21 schuster So I'll ask again. I have a Koha folder running 3.01.x and last night I pulled HEAD onto the same box into a kohaclone folder. When I launch Koha now it takes me to 3.01.
21:21 tirabo hi bgkiegel
21:21 schuster If I want to work with 3.2 what do I need to do?
21:21 bgkriegel tirabo: hi
21:21 schuster create a branch? This is a play system so if something gets messed up that's ok.
21:28 Ropuch schuster: you can install all optional data in web install
21:28 Ropuch Sample branches, patrons, itemtypes & other things included
22:50 schuster OK I'm a nuckle head duh... thanks
