I usually find to spot such typoes easier in marcxml. first of all a space is easier visible in xml due to the `<...></...>`. (if it's just one line of xml `xmllint --format` comes in handy to get it readable for humans.) furthermore... 12:31 magnuse huh, anyone else had problems with "ghost reserves"? there are no active reserves/holds for a record (but there are some in old_reserves), but transfers with branchtransfers.reason=Reserve are still being generated
12:32 magnuse koha 22.05.06
12:33 magnuse it's like the old reserves are cached somewhere and taken into account when koha considers if a transfer is necessary after a return

12:57 magnuse hm, i wonder if it has something to do with transfers being sent to the wrong branch too
13:01 cait you said it was using old data, maybe htere are transfers stuck in branchtransfers table
13:04 magnuse nah, i think i see it now. if there was a wrong transfer, i think there is something that makes it look like the item is reserved at the branch the wrong transfer was sent to

13:43 Zahid[m] hi, does tag 260 (c) is searchable in searching , advanced searching and go to item search? our publication year is added in 260 (c) about 140000 approx biblio records. now imported all records from koha 2.2.9 to koha 22.11 version.
13:49 MaratDallin[m] Hi. At the university library, we use Koha.... (full message at <https://matrix.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/matrix.org/LCmZaMwThAPXvjinKclPVkri>)
13:52 oleonard Zahid[m]: I don't understand your question
14:22 Zahid[m] we are using tag 260 $c for the copyright date/publication year example we type 2012 in catalog entry 260 (c). can this tag 260 (c) be searched in searching/advanace/gotoitemsearch module, in publication date (yyyy-yyyy) under keyword?
14:23 oleonard Zahid[m]: You want to be able to use the Item Search page to search by publication date?
14:24 Zahid[m] our library wants to search from year 2012-2019 books.
14:24 Zahid[m] yes
14:25 Zahid[m] we have added publication year in 260 (c) tag
14:27 oleonard Zahid[m]: As far as I can tell you can only do that style search (date range by year) in advanced search, not item search.
14:27 oleonard To change that you'd have to modify the code.
14:59 Zahid[m] how can i change the code?
15:00 Zahid[m] is there a shorter way?
15:00 oleonard I don't know how to do it
15:01 cait Zahid[m]: you need to put the date in 008
15:01 cait if you want to do range searches
15:02 cait and only from advanced search, as oleonard said, i tihnk from item serach you can only search single years
15:04 cait 008, pos. 7-10 for a normlaized version of the publication date, that makes the publication year search on the advanced search page work
16:23 jalway Anyone on who can answer a question or two about Koha to MARC mapping? Really just wondering, if I would be breaking things in a bad way, if I added some missing mappings and corrected a couple.
16:25 oleonard Not many people around right now jalway but you can try
16:27 jalway Hmm..., the manual seems to imply that it's okay to remove and add. I just don't want to botch a live system. xD
16:31 oleonard I believe that's a particularly dangerous thing to modify on a production system
16:33 jalway Okay, I'll definitely test it on my vm, before touching it then. In the event that I don't get a timely response from our support.
16:34 jalway Just, if it's tied in with a bunch of things, I don't want to poof/break something and not realize it until much later.
16:34 SMeynieux[m] You've got some scripts to run, after changing your mappings, and some checks to perform on your data beforehand. Koha don't deal very well with un-mapping though
16:35 jalway Ooff... :-(
16:35 jalway There seems to be two erroneous mappings in our configuration. :-(
16:37 jalway 245n and 245p are both mapped to biblio.subtitle. As opposed to biblio.part_number and biblio.part_name in a default install.
16:38 SMeynieux[m] You've got to run misc/batchRebuildBiblioTables.pl if you change mapping on biblio table, and misc/batchRebuildItemsTables.pl if it is on items.
16:39 jalway So, removing those 2 mappings and assigning them to the correct mappings, "should be okay"? xD
16:40 SMeynieux[m] Before we always check the content of both database column and marc field, to be sure that there won't be any loss when values are moved from one to the other (if the field was already mapped or not, the check is different)
16:42 oleonard jalway: mapping 245n and 245p to biblio.subtitle is a common choice as far as I know, even if it isn't the default
16:42 SMeynieux[m] jalway: Just check that biblio.part_number and biblio.part_name are empty
16:43 SMeynieux[m] SMeynieux[m]: and then changing those 2 mappings and running batchRebuildBiblioTables.pl should be ok (but it is always safer to run in test environment before)
16:43 jalway oleonard: So, it's more of a user preference as opposed to categorically wrong?
16:44 oleonard jalway: I shouldn't talk, I don't really know for sure :D
16:50 jalway Hmm..., does it matter for things like searching in the OPAC?
16:56 jalway Our everything sucks, I just noticed we have a . after an ! in multiple titles . . .
16:58 oleonard jalway is your OPAC online where you could show an example?
16:59 jalway Now, I'm just complaining, sorry. ;-)
16:59 jalway https://chanshun.swau.edu/cgi-bin/koha/opac-detail.pl?biblionumber=64536
17:00 jalway It has nothing to do with the Koha to MARC mapping. I've touched nothing there.
17:01 jalway It's just a typo that I need to fix for multiple records in the series.
17:02 jalway Nice, 14 instances of someone forgetting punctuation rules. ;-)

17:04 edveal[m] Spencer Smith and I were messing around with the idea of AI for staff training/help and we uploaded a pdf version of the circulation part of the online koha manual 22.11. You can check it out here: https://www.chatpdf.com/share/ACl47qGIsQ1JO74SkKR9V We were wondering if anyone knew of any open source AI that might be able to replicate? I felt the answers were easier to understand and search for the frontline staff member (or library
17:04 edveal[m] director!)
17:04 edveal[m] An example image is attached.

17:06 jalway edveal[m]: Not to rain on your parade, but I hope you're not using the same methods that brought us ChatGPT. As ChatGPT is 100% unreliable. You can't even rely on it to be wrong!
17:08 edveal[m] jalway: This is similar but not sure if it is the same. You upload the data and then that is all it uses to provide the answer. It is much more limited in scope.
17:08 RudyHinojosa cait: I found the reason itemtypes dropdown was doubling duplicates. There is a table called itemtypes_branches that has the offending duplicates. I'm assuming this should not be the case. a C4 may be trying to do a union against table itemtypes and itemtypes_branches?
17:12 jalway edveal[m]: The problem is that it's relying on complex relationships with words to string together something "potentially useful". As opposed to absolute gibberish. The AI literally understands nothing. It could easily be confused by different sections of a manual that have similar references, etc.
17:13 jalway edveal[m]: https://arstechnica.com/science/2023/07/a-jargon-free-explanation-of-how-ai-large-language-models-work/
17:13 jalway ^^That's a good explainer on the potential pitfalls of AI/LLMs.
17:13 jalway Well, it covers some of them anyway.
17:15 jalway The biggest issue I see, is that they have no clue why it replies with what it does. At least not without stupid amounts of research, that they may be working on.
17:15 jalway AI is more like here's a giant corn field, what happens, if I toss some gasoline on it and light a match?
17:16 cait RudyHinojosa these should be your branch limitations - the branches you limited the itemtypes to
17:17 cait i tested this too, but it didn't create duplicates for me - maybe some data entry issue?
17:17 RudyHinojosa cait: I just jetted 72k+ duplicates in itemtypes_branches and reinserted 3 new records to match itemtype main and branches 1,2 and 3
17:18 jalway Trying to figure out why the AI chose the strings it did, is like trying to piece together why the fire missed this tiny spot in a field of burnt corn.
17:18 cait hm wonder how they ended up in there
17:18 cait but now everyhting is ok?
17:18 RudyHinojosa good question indeed.
17:19 RudyHinojosa I'm confirming now.
17:20 RudyHinojosa yes. it works now. So i can now delete my makeshift itemtypes2 authorised values entry I added yesterday
17:21 RudyHinojosa I suspect this issue will arise again for someone using consortium.
17:24 edveal[m] jalway: Just going to have to ask. Did you try it. I have tried to ask confusing questions and it has gotten me the correct info each time.
17:24 RudyHinojosa question: cgi-bin/koha/members/maninvoice.pl , a user attempts to add a manual invoice for a charge. There is a Type dropdown with default of 3 items. lost item, manual fee, and new card. How can I add a new item to this dropdown?
17:28 jalway edveal[m]: No, but I have used ChatGPT quite a bit. It has a propensity to hallucinate. Perhaps chatpdf mitigates that so a certain degree, but I would need to be convinced otherwise. It's entirely possible that smaller sets of data will provide you with much more reliable answers. I wouldn't trust it with a lot of things, though.
17:30 jalway Happy weekend everyone! o/

19:03 oleonard Hi davidnind
19:09 davidnind hi oleonard! hope you ahev recovered from #KohaCOn23!
19:14 davidnind edveal: I love the idea - using some sort of AI/Query tool (free and open source) that is trained on your specific content, to give you answers to your questions. But I don't really know anything about the open source tools available 😦
19:50 edveal[m] davidnind: Exactly, that is our situation. But I can't believe that there isn't anything out there that would provide a good foundation for this. Can you imagine the "Help" button being a natural language (yes, I know language translation issues abound) query system?
20:08 davidnind edveal: I'm sure there is something around, despite issues around accuracy. I'd be interested if you find anything. In the technical writing/communication world there is a lot of activity around using AI, but I haven't had a chance to get my head around it. In an ideal world it would be great if: 1) You had structured content about using Koha (manuals, guides, knowledge base articles, MARC, your own content about library specific policies and
20:08 davidnind processes, etc. 2) You could query all this content/ask a question. 3) Get answers to your queries with content that is up-to-date, reflects your version, or points you to possible places to find the answer if "it" doesn't know. I don't think we are asking too much! 🙂
