09:43 Joubu is that what you mean?
09:44 marcelr ah that might be enough, great !
09:47 marcelr was already looking at DBIx::Raw and friends..
18:40 mjk Is it me or are there fewer and fewer public Z39.50 servers?
18:45 caroline mjk, I know here we lost a lot of reliable ones (national library, universities) to worldcat, which limits to only worldcat libraries (or paying a worldcat membership)
18:48 mjk Yeah, my small non-profit science fiction club can't afford that ;)
18:49 mjk Also, it appears that my decision to start buying 4K Blu-rays for our video collection isn't something that most professionally run libraries are doing. Almost everything I buy, I'm having to catalog myself ;)
18:52 caroline a lot of public libraries here still have blu ray and dvd collections afaik, but it is very possible they weed it out since a lot have hoopla or people are subscribed to streaming services
18:53 caroline (I'm in quebec, canada)
18:53 mjk Someday, we'll move our Koha instance off of a Raspberry Pi on our intranet and onto the public internet and then there will be at least some record source for folks even if it's quite amateur
18:54 mjk We still buy physcially because physical can't be disappeared.
18:54 caroline it can only be obsoleted
18:55 mjk Even original DVDs still play fine. Also, these days we have very little budget for buying stuff so everything is member donations
18:56 mjk ]We did just finally dumpter our cassette tape audio books after the last member whose car still had a tape player had to get a new car ;)
18:56 caroline I meant that you need a DVD player, eventually, most people will not have one, so even if the physical dvd is still physically available and readable, it's useless without the player (like VHS now)
18:58 caroline there is no real answer to that problem unfortunately, some archives digitize (even then, you still need the hardware and software to read the digital files) and some also archive the player
18:58 mjk The club that runs the science fiction library is full of 60 and 70 somethings. The membership will likely die off to the point where we can't afford a physical clubhouse with a 30000 volume library before videodiscs get that exitinct
