That computer is connected on internet. How do I edit sudo gedit /etc/koha/koha-sites.conf? I don't understant the difference between an IP install and domain install. 09:42 cait1 it depends on how the Koha will be accessible later - but for a domain you need to have one first of course, IP always works 09:42 cait1 hm if your server has a static IP 09:42 stefan I think is dynamic 09:43 cait1 I am not really good with the sysadmin side either - just basic knowledge 09:43 cait1 i might have to hand the question over 09:43 stefan ok 09:55 stefan The students will access koha only in the library on that computer. 09:57 stefan I want to install koha on ubuntu LTS. 09:58 stefan I followed the steps and when i try to connect i get the apche server at http://localhost:8000 09:58 stefan so, i guess that e configured poorly /etc/koha/koha-sites.conf 10:04 cait1 hm you might just have to turn off the default 10:37 oleonard o/ 13:14 marcelr a very easy bug to signoff? yes it is bug 28943 13:14 huginn Bug https://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=28943 normal, P5 - low, ---, m.de.rooy, Needs Signoff , The del-exp-selfreg flag in cleanup_database can be really disastrous 13:42 andyH Hi Koha experts! I was wondering if there was anyone around that might know a bit about the Koha API, and specifically whether there is a way to query a user's fine balance with it (either easily via an endpoint I've overlooked, or aggregating data from several API calls)? 13:42 andyH (and if there's not, is there perhaps a roadmap for the Koha API that might have it in the future) 13:52 lari andyH: /patrons/{patron_id}/account is probably what you are looking for 13:53 lari bug 20942 13:53 huginn Bug https://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=20942 new feature, P5 - low, ---, tomascohen, CLOSED FIXED, Add route to get patron's account balance 13:56 andyH Aha, I'll go have a peer at that 14:43 marcelr ha another easy bug to signoff: bug 28962 14:43 huginn Bug https://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=28962 normal, P5 - low, ---, m.de.rooy, Needs Signoff , Make deleting unverified self registrations standard (see del-unv-selfreg / DeleteUnverifiedOpacRegistrations) 15:24 stefan I tried to install koha on ubuntu 20.04.3 without success. I get to the end but when I try to log on in browser at http://localhost:8000 I get only that apache2 is working. The same for http://localhost:8001 The computer is connected to internet. I want students to access the library catalog only from this computer. I edited /etc/koha/koha-sites.conf like this INTRAPORT="8001" OPACPORT="8000" I used the instructions from this si 15:25 stefan Somebody any suggestions please? 15:26 oleonard stefan you missed cait's suggestion yesterday that you disable the default apache site 15:26 oleonard (you had just left) 15:26 stefan how do I do that? 15:28 stefan ok, i found some answers on internet 15:29 stefan another problem i had with this command koha-rebuild-zebra -v -f library 15:30 stefan I don't realy know what it is for, i followed blindly some instructions .. 15:31 ashimema it's for search indexes 15:35 oleonard stefan did you get some kind of error from the koha-rebuild-zebra command? 15:36 stefan yes, it failed to rebuild, I was at my library, now I'm at my home, I can't remember exactly what the error was, sorry 15:37 stefan I will try tomorrow with a fresh install, ubuntu first, koha second. Could you recomand a site with detailed instructions for someone green? 15:38 oleonard https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Koha_on_ubuntu_-_packages 15:41 stefan So, after sudo apt install koha-common, I need to edit next /etc/koha/koha-sites.conf to what? I use the name of the domain on my network? 15:41 stefan I leave INTRAPORT TO 80? 15:42 stefan or 8080? 16:29 JBoyer stefan, the intraport setting depends on how you want to access the staff client. If you want to only use a single domain name for everything then you would change it to a non-80 port so Koha can distinguish between opac users and staff users, or you can leave it on 80 and use a separate domain name to access the staff section. 16:29 JBoyer There's nothing stopping you from doing both of course, except that it's unnecessary. 17:08 stefan Hi, JBoyer. There is only one staff client, me. All the rest are students. So, what should I do? The simplest set up. 17:12 stefan I don't know about domain names. I made them up? Where do I write them? How I make the apache server and mysql database to see them? I'm lost. I need a guide for beginners. 17:13 stefan A guide for a librarian who wants to install koha, not a system admin. 17:14 stefan My school doesn't have a system admin. 17:15 JBoyer stefan, that might be beyond what I can help with. You mentioned students, is this something being setup in order to help them learn about and work with open source ILS's or is this for access to your library materials? 17:15 stefan Access to my library books. 17:16 stefan And to keep all the records in one place, books and the people who borrows them. 17:18 JBoyer Ok. There should probably be a system admin involved at some point to keep an eye on things like hardware reliability and making sure backups and updates happen. (Such as the security update that was just released) There is a list of paid support providers here: https://koha-community.org/support/paid-support/ 17:20 JBoyer You *can* get koha up and running individually on a local computer, but it's not a good idea to depend on that kind of installation for production use. (And you shouldn't be required to know how to do all of that.) 17:20 stefan This is a small school in Romania. No sys admin. 17:22 JBoyer Also, I should mention that I work for one of the companies on that list (Equinox) but any of the companies on that list should also offer hosting, so that they can handle all of the hardware and domain names and ssl certificates, etc. and all you have to worry about is getting your records in there and checking items in and out. 17:24 JBoyer Additionally, they don't necessarily have to be located in Romania (unless there is a local requirement for that), so anyone that can give you a quote that is affordable and meets your needs should be able to help. 17:25 JBoyer If you really want to move forward with setting things up yourself I'd recommend looking at the email lists also: https://koha-community.org/support/koha-mailing-lists/ 17:27 JBoyer since this channel may be or may not be busy when you're able to join and many people are on the lists. I would still recommend against running it yourself long term though.
