08:52 LibraryClaire hi cait :)
09:26 benjamin Hi, anyone like to enlighten me on their setup of the new RFC Restful API with Swagger under Plack? seems I'm missing the entire `api` folder and running into `not found`. Installed v3.22.03
09:35 cait benjamin: hm maybe wait for tcohen or jajm
09:35 cait i have to pass on that one i am afraid
09:37 marcelr hi #koha
09:37 cait hi marcelr :)
09:37 marcelr hi cait
09:38 benjamin hi cait, no worries! Long time no see, by the way! Been off Koha for a while now, but now 100% in, and REST Api no.1 priority
09:39 cait it would probably be good to get some input there
09:40 cait benjamin: maybe try taking a look at bugzilla?
09:40 cait most of the discussion si taking place there
09:40 cait and some patches waiting for sign off it hink
09:40 benjamin good call, I'm on it!
09:40 cait i just tried a search for "rest api" seems to create a good list
09:44 matts Hello #koha !
09:45 matts Do you know if there's a webservice in koha that allows to search biblio by title or is*n ?
09:45 cait SRU
09:45 cait is*n?
09:46 cait my coworker is rather fond of SRU for searching Koha - it seems to work well
09:46 matts ok... Is there some documentation about that ?
09:47 matts (issn/isbn)
09:47 cait http://manual.koha-community.org/3.22/en/sru.html
09:48 cait marcelr gave a talk on it once too :) http://bywatersolutions.com/2012/06/07/kohacon12-koha-and-sru/
09:49 matts thx cait... Is it enabled by default ?
09:49 cait hm you might have to enable it
09:49 cait similar like z39.50
09:49 marcelr it is a parameter for koha-create in debian packages
09:51 matts marcelr, thanks. Can it be enabled on an existing koha install ?
09:51 marcelr manually in any case :)
09:52 cait i think probably have to uncomment in koha-conf.xml?
09:52 cait not sure if thereis more to it
09:52 marcelr just uncomment some lines in koha-conf and restart zebra
09:52 cait          marcelr++
09:53 matts okay, thx

11:21 * benjamin waves back to magnuse
11:36 magnuse huh, if i want to say that patrons with more than x$ in fines are blocked from borrowing any more books, where do i configure it?
11:42 magnuse ah, noissuescharge
12:01 drojf hei magnuse and cait
12:17 drojf upgrading dsl from 10/1 to 50/10 was not a bad idea
12:18 drojf we'll see how long it takes until the 300gb/month cap makes me quit
12:45 benjamin jajm: if you're online, care to help with some REStful API under plack setup issues?
12:49 Joubu benjamin: might be better to shoot without asking ;)
12:54 benjamin heh, ok. Problem is, activating /api under plack and apache-shared-intranet-plack.conf seems to give only 404 any way I try, and 500 if trying to access /api/v1/swagger.json directly. Had to copy api folder from source into /usr/share/koha/api, since it is ignored in the Makefile.PL
12:58 Joubu benjamin: Have you uncommented the last part of the httpd?
13:01 benjamin joubu: meaning the mod_rewrite part with api? if so, yes.
13:02 tcohen bonjour
13:02 drojf while reading about the bywater coverflow plugin, i wonder if we want to have something like community supported plugins (that have their bugs dealt with via the koha bugzilla) or if that should in general be handled by the provider of the plugin
13:03 drojf hi tcohen. building a package for bug 16138, may have questions when testing. does the problem appear every time?
13:03 huginn 04Bug http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=16138 major, P5 - low, ---, gmcharlt, Needs Signoff , Restart plack when rotating logfiles
13:03 Joubu benjamin: debian/templates/apache-shared-intranet-plack.conf: ProxyPass+ProxyPassReverse
13:03 bag I thought it should be handled by the plugin builder
13:04 Joubu benjamin: etc/koha-httpd.conf 253 # Uncomment this VirtualHost to enable API access through
13:04 tcohen drojf: cool
13:04 tcohen benjamin: you should ask jajm for help regarding that
13:04 Joubu tcohen: that's what he did :)
13:05 tcohen it is not clear to me that we should be using the CGI compatibility mode in plack for the API
13:05 drojf bag: that would spare us the trouble of deciding which plugins should be "community supported" ;)
13:05 tcohen i tried for the 3.22 release and didn't succeed the first day i tried, so i moved on to other stuff
13:05 tcohen but is worth making work ASAP so endpoints start to grow!
13:06 bag drojf: I think that is the bueaty of the plugins :)
13:06 drojf bag: on the other hand, what if i come up with a plugin idea, release it but don't have resources to work on it
13:06 drojf like, maintain it
13:06 benjamin tcohen: perhaps thats what I'm struggling with? what's the easiest way to use api under plack?
13:07 bag if it works for you then it works for you drojf :)
13:07 tcohen google for running mojolicious stuff in plack .-D
13:07 tcohen s/in/under/
13:08 benjamin ah. so noone is using it yet, then, I suppose... :(
13:08 drojf bag: what i think might possibly happen is that with more plugins we will have more abandoned plugins that work on one version and not on another, but people asking about it on koha lists, because they think it is a part of koha
13:09 tcohen plugins should have a "version compatibility check" and maintainers should care to maintain that supported versions list
13:09 bag ideally yes
13:09 drojf tcohen: does the logrotate problem appear every time, or do i have to be lucky to reproduce it?
13:09 bag keyword “should"
13:10 tcohen drojf: the latter. I set a VM with 3.22+plack, it started failing at some point, and i was able to reproduce it by running logrotate -f /etc/logrotate.conf
13:11 tcohen bag: i was thinking the way wordpress does it, users tend to rank plugins also
13:11 francharb Hello all
13:12 drojf we will probably need a list of installed plugins for user support questions then? or do we have that already, on the about page or somewhere?
13:12 drojf hi francharb
13:13 drojf i have not really worked with koha plugins yet, sorry if the questions are stupid ;)
13:13 bag I don’t think we should have “community supported” plugins - if it’s some thing the community wants it should be in koha proper
13:14 bag plugins give you the flexibility to do something wild that wouldn’t really be useful wide spread
13:14 drojf i like wild :D
13:15 bag           like - DELETE * from biblios;
13:15 bag :P
13:15 drojf still for user support one has to know what is running in a users koha?
13:16 drojf how would i know if an error is a bug in koha or in a plugin
13:16 drojf or are they restricted from doing certain things in koha?
13:17 bag the definition of user support could vary ;)
13:17 drojf they could change whatever they like, roight?
13:17 drojf i mean something like free community support on the mailing list
13:18 drojf if a user says "i have koha 16.05 and x is broken", i would have to know if that is a koha problem or maybe actually an error in a plugin
13:18 drojf if it's a client i know what they are running :P
13:18 drojf or at least i hope so. heh
13:18 bag not nessecary - I think the first thing is understanding the problem - if you can’t repeat it - then you don’t know the problem
13:19 bag we could always say - we can’t repeat it :)
13:19 drojf but that means spending time testing it
13:19 bag which is what we are all doing all the time ;)
13:20 drojf i'll postpone the problem until we have a gazillion of plugins and people start to annoy me :P
13:20 bag which I’m betting on will not happen :) “tons of plugins”
13:21 tcohen i have a use case for exotic barcode calculation, that should be handled using a plugin, instead of the current "drop a .pl file somewhere" approach
13:21 drojf probably not, now that people will switch to "microservices" and using only bits and pieces of koha they will never actually see ;)
13:27 magnuse the disintegration of the ils...
13:28 drojf exciting, isn't it?
13:28 tcohen monolitic rules :-P

13:35 Joubu I have upgraded some weeks ago, forgot that
13:35 Joubu :)
13:35 Joubu erk
13:35 tcohen Joubu: when I added the ->xslt call (unrelated to this bug) I was looking at the 4.03 docs
13:35 tcohen so I'm now worried
13:35 * Joubu is launching kohadevbox :)
13:36 drojf tcohen: you should add koha-plack to https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Commands_provided_by_the_Debian_packages
13:37 tcohen and certaintly koha-indexer!
13:37 drojf indeed
13:38 * tcohen goes write a patch so the indexer in ON by default
13:39 Joubu         tcohen: where is ->xslt?? http://search.cpan.org/~timbrody/HTTP-OAI-3.28/lib/HTTP/OAI/Repository.pm
13:39 tcohen *hm, he discovered it*
13:42 tcohen http://search.cpan.org/~timbrody/HTTP-OAI-3.28/lib/HTTP/OAI/Response.pm
13:43 Joubu         tcohen: yes but 135         $response = $class->new($self, %attr);
13:44 Joubu         won't be a HTTP::OAI::Response but a Koha::OAI::Server::Repository, based on HTTP::OAI::Repository
13:45 drojf oh, koha 3.22.5 with plack feels much faster than what i remember from 3.22.0 with plack. did it get some of the cache fixes already?
13:45 Joubu it works on jessie, but I don't understand why
13:45 tcohen        use base ("HTTP::OAI::Repository");
13:45 tcohen drojf: yes!
13:46 Joubu drojf: 11998
13:46 Joubu tcohen: yes, and? HTTP::OAI::Repository does not have a ->xslt whatever the version
13:46 bag a few drojf
13:46 tcohen Joubu: all HTTP::OAI::{Verb} modules must be based on HTTP::OAI::Repository
13:46 bag more to come
13:48 tcohen        Joubu: @ISA = qw( HTTP::OAI::Response );
13:48 tcohen http://cpansearch.perl.org/src/TIMBRODY/HTTP-OAI-3.28/lib/HTTP/OAI/Identify.pm
13:48 drojf yeah awesome, huge improvement! :)
13:48 drojf i have to rebenchmark it on the raspi ;)
13:48 tcohen Joubu: damn, he refactored...
13:52 tcohen Joubu: in theory it should still work, because he made verbs inherit HTTP::OAI::Verb instead of HTTP::OAI::Response
13:53 tcohen but HTTP::OAI::Verb, ultimately returns an HTTP::OAI::Response object, that *still* implements xslt
13:53 Joubu drojf: they are some wild benchmarks on bug 16140
13:53 huginn 04Bug http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=16140 enhancement, P2, ---, jweaver, In Discussion , Only clear L1 cache when needed

13:53 Joubu there*
13:53 tcohen and http://cpansearch.perl.org/src/TIMBRODY/HTTP-OAI-4.03/lib/HTTP/OAI/Verb.pm
13:54 tcohen he managed to make the code unreadable
13:55 drojf tcohen: where did you get the errors for 16138? in the browser or some log file?
13:55 Joubu tcohen: so.... the conclusion is that your bug fix can go for now
13:55 tcohen drojf: browser
13:55 tcohen Internal server errror
13:55 tcohen in both OPAC and Intranet
13:56 tcohen Joubu: conclusion is that dcook was right about HTTP::OAI 4.03 being a threat for us
13:56 tcohen (i recall he wrote to the dev list about it)
13:57 drojf tcohen: ok. if i can't get that, i will just test for regression. the patch is small, so i think to verify that plack works after logrotate should be ok
13:57 tcohen drojf: it is straightforward, discussion is if we need to take the service down during logrotate
13:57 tcohen starman author/maintainer says yes
13:57 tcohen we could just find another way
13:58 tcohen to avoid it
13:58 tcohen this is a workaround only
13:58 tcohen (we do the same for the zebra server)
13:58 Joubu tcohen: could you please open a bug report?
13:58 tcohen (and apache)
13:58 bag hmm yeah dcook did say something about that
13:59 drojf what is the harm in restarting the service once a day?
13:59 tcohen i think it is once a week
14:00 drojf i mean, why bother thinking of something else if this way works
14:00 bag very cool https://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=16155
14:00 huginn 04Bug 16155: enhancement, P5 - low, ---, m.de.rooy, Needs Signoff , Composite keys in TestBuilder and more
14:01 bag ah just missed marcel
14:01 tcohen drojf: we should be relying on Koha::Log4Perl instead, for instance
14:02 tcohen using the Plack::Middleware::Log4perl middleware
14:02 tcohen consistency + avoid the issue
14:04 Joubu cannot QA anything before tomorrow, I have reach the 100PQA for this month

14:35 tcohen @later tell Joubu I'm not sure Kyle's patch is wrong (15599) because we are explicitly testing the use case in which it falls back to biblio-level itype. In other tests, we should build test data properly, not on this one, because we are explicitly testing a bad scenario

20:10 rangi its on now
20:22 drojf evening
20:22 drojf so we got only 3 ebsco talks at kohacon :P
20:23 cait oh 3?
20:23 wahanui 3 is not.
20:23 drojf 3 that are labelled ebsco
20:23 drojf maybe there is more
20:23 cait i was thinkingonly 2
20:24 drojf ebsco plugin, ebsco derheißescheiß microservices and somethingsomething a division of ebsco
20:25 rangi yeah, it was going to be 2
20:25 rangi but someone else pulled out
20:25 rangi alvets talk will be good
20:25 * cait should have send an abstract
20:25 drojf anyway i got a slot so it's gonna be the best kohacon ever. lol
20:25 rangi he has been to kohacon in argentina already too
20:25 rangi and the plugin is gplv3 :)

20:26 cait drojf: you already had a kohacon presentation
20:26 rangi the other 2 are straight sales
20:26 drojf yes but that was forced so university would pay my trip ;)
20:26 rangi but im hoping they will talk about Koha more than they talk about their stuff
20:26 cait now you forced yourself... to pay your trip?
20:26 drojf i would have paid my trip anyway :)
20:27 drojf i'm a cool boss
20:27 eythian oh, I need to work out getting there
20:27 cait hehe
20:27 drojf eythian: if you come to berlin, there is a plane straight to thessaloniki ;)
20:28 eythian drojf: I'm seriously considering that
20:28 drojf it's the best option for everyone!
20:28 eythian even though there's a plane straight from here too, I'm sure :)
20:28 rangi get the 6.35am one ..
20:28 drojf :)

20:28 eythian haha
20:28 eythian what a terrible sounding idea
20:28 rangi hehe
20:28 cait rangi: wasn't it 6?
20:28 rangi yeah it changed
20:28 cait oh... to later
20:29 drojf or get the 16 one with the normal people not getting up at 4 at night :P
20:29 cait you are lucky :)
20:29 rangi i figure ill just stay at the pub until 4
20:29 rangi hehe
20:29 cait i really hope we will make it
20:29 * cait is kind of doubtful about the ariline
20:29 wizzyrea O.O

20:29 drojf cait: don't miss the plane then please
20:29 wizzyrea doubtful as in "it might fall out of the sky" or "it might fly to the wrong airport" or "it may not be on time"
20:30 wizzyrea none of these sound like great doubts to have about an airline...
20:30 drojf what is it? easyjet? they are cheap, but the planes fly, at least they did when i last used them
20:30 rangi mine is berlin air
20:31 wizzyrea thumbs up
20:31 eythian where are people staying in Thessaloniki?
20:31 drojf they are cheap too :P
20:31 cait i will try - but you are the host in berlin, so you will have to take care i don't miss it, right?
20:31 rangi eythian: hotel olympia
20:31 drojf eythian: hotel… something
20:31 drojf yeah that
20:31 wahanui yeah that is golded jcamins
20:31 eythian oh, I was talking to someone who is Greek and has been recommending Koha to libraries there. He might come too.
20:31 drojf the should give me the room for free for being the first one booking and now everybody goes there
20:31 rangi eythian: https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Kohacon_2016:_Who_is_arriving_when
20:32 drojf bad luck, ABC hotel for having fake free wifi, or we would all have ended up at your place
20:33 rangi eythian: also this is close to the hotel and university in greece http://thehoppypub.gr/
20:33 eythian drojf: where is your info on your hackfest thing?
20:33 eythian nice

20:34 eythian tq
20:34 eythian OK, so Berlin is, what, a 10 minute bike from here?
20:35 drojf yup
20:35 eythian jesus those flight prices are cheap, I forget how things are here.
20:35 rangi yup
20:36 rangi i get into berlin at 6pm on 24/5
20:39 bag @later tell jajm - I think this one is for you -> https://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=16146
20:39 huginn bag: The operation succeeded.

20:40 eythian drojf: what's the best station to come into if I train? Berlin Hbf?
20:40 eythian I presume everything transfers from there anyway?
20:41 drojf yes. you will usually have spandau as an alternative, that is far away from everything, don't get off there
20:42 eythian OK
20:42 eythian looks like about 6 hours by train, that's not bad.
20:42 drojf if you stay where rangi stays, you can take a direct bus (M41)
20:42 cait closer than from here :)
20:46 drojf we have a lot of community building stuff this kohacon
20:47 eythian https://owncloud.kallisti.net.nz/index.php/s/In9LhDHg1jRhSJa <-- I like the map, it's so ... details
20:47 eythian *detailed
20:48 drojf all the important stuff is there!
20:49 wizzyrea teehee
20:49 eythian I think it was just slow, it got there in the end
20:57 eythian €39 for a train, €81 if I want one I can change or cancel. That seems like an excessive markup.
21:00 drojf don't change or cancel. or book two 39€ tickets and use one, it's cheaper than the other one
21:01 drojf buying train tickets is like a lottery these days
21:08 eythian I can leave Centraal at 09:00 and arrive around 17:00, those are pretty reasonable times.
21:08 rangi i wonder what the best wanna-be award is?
21:09 eythian I'm just planning it to get leave etc.
21:11 drojf rangi: i was wondering that too
21:11 eythian y'know, I could just go on the Sunday, take one more day of leave, but have two full free days there.
21:11 eythian I might do that.
21:11 eythian Or even go on the Saturday.
21:11 eythian ?
21:12 cait eythian: i am in berlin monday... if you want to do sight seeing:)
21:12 cait rangi: yeah - me too
21:13 drojf cait brings all the sights to berlin. and takes them back home when she leaves ;)
21:13 cait hm?
21:13 cait oh gr.
21:13 eythian cait: count me in :)
21:13 eythian haha :)
21:22 * wizzyrea is a bit jealous of all of you being able to get together
21:27 drojf you should come :)
21:28 wizzyrea Believe me when I say I'd like to
21:28 wizzyrea there's this little problem of having the funds to do so (and other varying issues)
21:32 cait maybe we need to get some of tohse remote robot things...
21:34 drojf ?
21:34 cait i have no idea what they are called
21:35 wizzyrea haha I've seen those
21:36 drojf i will just assume you are not talking about sex toys and try not to ask about it
21:36 drojf damn
21:36 drojf alomst worked
21:36 drojf *almost
21:36 wizzyrea I have not seen those ones.
21:36 cait i was thinking of a robot conference participant
21:37 cait remote controlled moving around with camera on top?
21:37 wizzyrea ^
21:37 drojf haha ok so we just stay at home/work on irc as usual but have boths gather at a conference? :D
21:37 drojf bots
21:38 wizzyrea http://www.smith.edu/news/robot-on-campus/
21:38 wizzyrea this kind of thing
21:38 drojf a video conferencing segway?
21:39 cait i know it's not the same... but it would be kinda cool :)
21:39 wizzyrea http://perezhilton.com/2014-01-28-wedding-robots-livestream-officiate-bare-ring
21:39 drojf we could make them start pub fights and run through the city
21:40 drojf thessaloniki invaded by video conference alien things
21:40 wizzyrea that's the best article
21:40 wizzyrea er not the best article
21:40 drab hi, so I managed to rescue this failed old koha instance and restore the db on a latest install however they are having troubles with users not being able to login into the opac
21:40 drab I've tried to look at the databse and do some debugging, but I'm not a perl guy and the db is pretty complicated
21:40 bag melia and sam had those at their wedding
21:40 wizzyrea ^ that's who I was thinking of
21:40 drab as far as I can tell all users seem to be in the "borrowers" table. is that correct?
21:40 wizzyrea I was hoping to find the article that was about their wedding
21:40 wizzyrea yep
21:41 wizzyrea drab ^
21:41 drab and on the web they are called patrons, ie there's no "borrowers" screen
21:41 bag could one of those robots sign off on ES too?
21:41 wizzyrea you have come across one of the major arguments in librarydom
21:41 drojf could another robot make it work before?
21:41 drab lol, ok, I won't go there then :)
21:41 wizzyrea "what do we call the people who use the library"
21:41 drab sounds like "how should we name our servers"
21:41 drojf and which dialect of english do we use in koha
21:41 wizzyrea only more contentious :)
21:42 drab heh
21:42 cait drab: passwords are stored encrypted
21:42 * bag thinks drojf authorites are too authoritive
21:42 wizzyrea drojf: I'd argue that this problem is well beyond inglish
21:42 wizzyrea english* (geez)
21:42 drab engrish pls
21:42 bag heh
21:42 wizzyrea the dialect thing is a symptom of the "what do we call the people who use the library" argument
21:43 bag just kidding drojf
21:43 cait drab: what is the problem they experience?
21:43 wizzyrea but drab, you are right
21:43 drojf true. once we are full ebsco they will be clients
21:43 bag           drojf++
21:43 drab so for some reason a user in the borrowers table can log into the sco for self checkout, but not in the opac
21:43 cait can only patrons not log in or staff too?
21:43 drab cait: ^^
21:43 wizzyrea drab: are you running any translations?
21:43 drab but I thought there's only one user so don't understand why login would succeed in one place and fail in the other
21:43 drojf or maybe they are partners, who knows
21:44 drab however a newly create used can log into both places just fine
21:44 * drojf wants to make another snarky ebsco remark before bed
21:44 wizzyrea drab: what version did you come from?
21:44 drab does the opac check for something else besides usedid/password in the borrowers table?
21:45 cait cardnumber an dpassword should work too
21:45 drojf bag: did anything happen on the authorities front? i did not spend much time on the bug tracker but i think i would have gotten an email if something had happened
21:45 drojf no pressure, just asking :P
21:45 bag just rebased
21:45 bag nick is back - so I’m asking him to test but he’s busy
21:45 bag tomorrow hopefully tomorrow I can get him to test the auths again
21:46 drab wizzyrea: 3.12 iirc
21:48 drab is there a way I can enable debugging somehow to see what's going on when I try to login?
21:50 drab also, a related but slight diff question: I'm trying to help them bulk add a bunch of kids to the borrowers/patrons, can I just write something up that does inserts into the borrowers table?
21:50 drab or are there other relationshisp I should be aware of that need to match or stuff won't work?
21:50 wizzyrea there's a tool
21:50 wizzyrea to import patrons
21:50 wizzyrea tools -> Import patrons
21:50 drab oh, I'll check that out, thanks
21:52 drojf i was wondering, what happens if i got password hashes only in an old database and want to import patrons?
21:52 drab was about to ask that since that's what I got
21:53 eythian hashes should be backwards compatible
21:53 eythian though you'd have to directly insert them, the importer expects plaintext
21:54 drojf any reason not to have a field for pw hash in the importer? (besides 'nobody did it')?
21:57 eythian it's rare to find things that will export with the same parameters that Koha requires, I expect.
21:57 eythian so, little call for it.
21:58 eythian In all the migrations I've done, I never saw one system (IIRC) that didn't have plaintext passwords.
21:58 cait same here
22:01 eythian it's slightly terrifying, albeit convenient.
22:01 drojf i have seen one with only hashes a while ago
22:40 huginn New commit(s) kohagit: Bug 15889: LDAP authentication: Only update mapped attributes <http://git.koha-community.org/gitweb/?p=koha.git;a=commitdiff;h=c74678a1d239aaf91906039ccb3db940df4a0b41>
23:02 drojf good night #koha
23:26 pianohacker rangi: do you have any idea why the strip-empty-params (RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} (.*?)(?:[A-Za-z0-9_-]+)=&(.*) / RewriteRule (.+) $1?%1%2 [N,R,NE]) crept into the apache config?
23:27 rangi yeah it was a joshua thing there were other bits to go with it, basically rewrote /search/ to /cgi-bin/koha/opac-search.pl .. or something like that, it should probably get ripped out I doubt anyone is using it
23:28 pianohacker rangi: cool, that sounds about right. Thanks for confirming
23:43 drab https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Commands_provided_by_the_Debian_packages#Database-related
23:43 drab koha-reset-passwd instancename username <--- this is talking about a borrower, right?
23:45 rangi yes
23:46 drab thanks
23:57 wizzyrea      rangi++ koha-preferences is kinda win.
