Time Nick Message
00:02 jcamins wizzyrea: I am planning a menu for my dessert brunch, and I can't decide what cookies I should serve.
00:03 jcamins Any suggestions?
00:03 wahanui Any suggestions are welcome.
00:03 jcamins So far I'm thinking triple-chocolate raspberry and black lava sea salt-oatmeal chocolate chip.
00:04 eythian thanks jcamins
00:04 eythian now I need lunch
00:05 jcamins eythian: would it help if I told you other things I planned on serving?
00:05 eythian no.
00:05 eythian no it wouldn't.
00:05 jcamins Things like saffron-orange-vanilla cupcakes, tortiously tempting flourless chocolate torte, apple pie...
00:05 jcamins oh.
00:05 jcamins Oops.
00:05 ibeardslee heh
00:05 eythian you are bad and should feel bad.
00:06 jcamins I would, but I get to look forward to things like chocolate mousse, kyauk kyaw, goat cheese-date chocolate truffles, chocolate-lavender fudge, and saltine toffee bark.
00:07 eythian hmph
00:08 wizzyrea I think you've got that handled there, jcamins.
00:08 jcamins wizzyrea: that's only two.
00:08 jcamins wizzyrea: fortunately, I just throught of peanut butter cookies.
00:08 jcamins *thought
00:09 wizzyrea if you just want something that takes a lot of work, you could go for unicorn poop.
00:09 wizzyrea it doesn't even matter how they taste, they're rainbow.
00:09 jcamins lol
00:09 jcamins No, I prefer easy things that are delicious.
00:10 jcamins Maybe I need a second type of cake, too.
00:11 * jcamins is planning his 5th anniversary dessert brunch.
00:15 eythian I thought you were older than 5
00:16 jcamins Heh. Anniversary = birthday in NZ?
00:16 eythian No
00:16 eythian but without clarification, it could be anything.
00:17 eythian so it's naturally best to make it one of the more ridiculous options.
00:17 jcamins Without any clarification in the US it means "wedding anniversary," I think.
00:18 eythian it could totally be work anniversary here, though that's less likely to be a cake-requiring event.
00:21 * jcamins substitutes volcanic chocolate chip cookies for the black lava sea salt-oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. Yum!
00:23 * jcamins also adds rosemary shortbread.
00:27 * Francesca is stressed
00:28 * jcamins recommends baking.
00:29 Francesca i'm at uni
00:30 Francesca waiting for summer of tech interview offers is bad for my stress levels
00:30 jcamins [off] Sneak a toaster oven into your dorm room and bake anyway? :)
00:31 Francesca hahahaha I don't have a dorm room
00:36 jcamins Is 16 desserts enough for a dessert brunch?
00:41 Francesca probably
00:41 Francesca thats a lot of desserts
00:42 jcamins True.
00:43 jcamins 4x cookies, 1x cakes, 2x pies/tartes/tortes, 2x chilled confections, 3x candies, 2x puddings, 2x fruit
00:44 ibeardslee how many is that for, is there enough for everyone/most to have a bit of each?
00:44 jcamins Not that many people. I'll make half batches of everything, so that everyone have just a little bit of each.
00:45 jcamins I don't actually know how many people, yet.
00:46 Francesca yum extra dessert
00:47 Francesca sounds like fun
01:32 Francesca @wunder wlg
01:32 huginn` Francesca: The current temperature in Wellington, New Zealand is 8.0°C (1:00 PM NZST on September 21, 2015). Conditions: Light Rain Showers. Humidity: 81%. Dew Point: 5.0°C. Windchill: 3.0°C. Pressure: 30.01 in 1016 hPa (Falling).
02:29 wizzyrea @later tell tcohen for 3.18 do I need to update the dbix schema files?
02:29 huginn` wizzyrea: The operation succeeded.
02:29 wizzyrea (or if anyone else has advice there it's welcome.)
02:38 eythian if there's a schema change, I would expect so
02:39 wizzyrea hrm, these are things I wish someone had told me sooner. No matter, I'll fix it up now.
02:45 wizzyrea thanks eythian
02:45 eythian add it to the RM wiki page, and if there's no wiki page, make one with that on it :)
02:46 wizzyrea ^.^
02:46 wizzyrea "Currently the RM will run the script. If you want to include those changes with your patches, do it in a separate patch. This will allow the changes to be redone easily by the RM if necessary."
02:47 wizzyrea and that's really that.
02:47 wizzyrea lol.
02:49 eythian that's kinda coming from the other direction :)
02:49 wizzyrea yeah, but it doesn't say what the RM is supposed to do anywhere.
02:49 wizzyrea that I spotted.
02:51 wizzyrea well I've added all that I know about it which really fits into a thimble.
03:44 eythian kathryn: so you're shunning us in our own IRC channels, but hanging out with this crowd?
03:44 eythian Is that how it is huh?
03:54 * wizzyrea gives kathryn the eye
03:54 wizzyrea <3
03:55 cdickinson </3 ?
03:55 Francesca hahahahahahahaha
03:55 Francesca victoria students are very amused
03:58 kathryn you know how it is ;)
03:59 kathryn (am chasing Frida around, VPN disconnected)
03:59 kathryn hi all
04:03 Francesca hi kathryn
04:05 kathryn hi francesca. be back later

04:25 eythian I'm just glad it's gone

04:39 eythian s/ing/ed/
06:05 dcook Looking at porting our local customizations over to a newer version of Koha, and it's so heartening to see how many patches I've already upstreamed or which other people have already fixed upstream
06:05 dcook Alas, I think there's still well over 100 local customizations to do...
06:05 * dcook wants to upstream all the things
06:09 * magnuse waves
06:10 dcook heya magnuse
06:10 dcook Already that time of day, eh?
06:10 magnuse i'm kind of late today, even
06:10 magnuse yeah, upstream all the things!
06:11 dcook All the things!
06:12 magnuse all the time!
06:12 dcook I still have a bit of a support backlog, but hopefully there will be more patches coming from this guy soon
06:13 dcook Not sure I agree with all the customizations we make, but surely many of these could go upstream..
06:13 dcook Some maybe..
06:26 dcook Hmm... I definitely broke something..
06:27 magnuse hm, sounds like you are set to rush past me in the patch count, dcook
06:27 dcook Nahh
06:27 dcook I have this broken thing to look at now :p
06:28 dcook Actually, I think I know what my problem is...
06:28 dcook Silly dcook
06:28 magnuse break all the things!
06:29 dcook Oh... and I just broke another thing
06:29 dcook *facepalm*
06:29 dcook With 30 minutes left in the day
06:29 dcook Genius this guy :p
06:29 dcook Okies..
06:34 dcook I was upgrading to a clean Koha 3.20 but it installed files from my blib for a modified 3.14...
06:34 dcook Not a good scene
06:34 dcook And a git clean -f -d wouldn't work because I had a lot of the build directories in .gitignore...
06:41 * magnuse cheers dcook on and waves to Francesca reiveune and cait
06:41 * Francesca waves back
06:42 reiveune hello everybody
06:42 Francesca sup
06:47 dcook Nearly there :D
06:47 marcelr hi #koha
06:48 dcook Hurray. All fixed, and it only took 17 minutes ^_^
06:48 dcook yo marcelr
06:48 marcelr hi dcook
06:51 cait good morning all :)
06:51 cait @later tell eythian no need - we got an Octoberfest in Konstanz as well - it's horrible to get into the bus at the main station these days... :)
06:51 huginn` cait: The operation succeeded.
06:52 dcook Hmm, I suppose Kohacon in Greece means no Kohacon in Germany for a while... ;)
06:52 * dcook waves to cait
06:52 cait go home dcook!
06:52 dcook I still have 8 minutes to go!

06:58 Viktor cait Still an option if you want to :)
06:59 cait i thik i will try a PM first :)
07:03 * dcook thought for a moment that cait was saying that she wanted to be PM
07:03 * dcook figures this might be an option in Australia where the PM seems to change quite quickly

11:23 DooRooK Hello, I'm trying to configure and set my inventory for the first time using Koha. Everything seems to work and I can add documents one by one. What I would like to do is to find an automated process to record a notice from the Z39.50 server and then register it in the catalogue from a .txt or .xls file which contain all the ISBN code of my ressources
11:24 DooRooK Is there any way to do this kind of stuff with the GUI of Koha ?
11:24 DooRooK Or do I have to edit SQL satabase directly by scripting
11:24 DooRooK I can't find a lot of information on the web and it would be way to long to add each document one by one...
11:24 DooRooK Ty for the advices ! :)
11:27 cait DooRooK: I think MarcEdit has tools for this
11:27 cait but I haven't used them
11:27 cait if you coudl create a marc file with alle the records, you coudl load them into koha using the tools
11:34 cait @later tell wizzyrea Tulong Aklatan is doubled up in the support list

12:35 tcohen hi cait
12:35 tcohen wha what?
12:43 magnuse ptfse had one i thought was cool, about the science museum
12:43 magnuse http://www.ptfs-europe.com/science-museum-chooses-the-koha-library-management-system-hosted-and-supported-by-ptfs-europe/
12:52 Joubu hello
12:53 tcohen hi Joubu
12:57 tcohen Joubu: I don't agree with your concerns on my patch :-D when I first wrote it I used a template to handle it, and the code was (like all XLST code is) scary, It was more about readability/understandability than efficiency, as this is only run once every time people adds an index (so doesn't impact production speed=
12:59 Joubu I just don't like the idea to duplicate code
13:16 mveron Hi #koha
13:17 magnuse kia ora mveron
13:17 mveron kia ora magnuse :-)
13:19 mveron Question from a non native English speaker: What would be the best translation for "Magazin" / "Fernmagazin": "Storage room" / "Remote storage room" or "Depot" / "Remote depot"?
13:28 * mveron waves to drojf
13:29 druthb mveron: It depends, but "storage room" is more common. You might use "depot" for a facility not in the same building.
13:29 druthb (but even then, "storage room" is more common.
13:29 mveron      druthb ++
13:29 mveron :-)
13:30 druthb (in US-ian English, anyway. en_UK or en_NZ or en_AU might differ.)
13:30 * jcamins agrees. I'd interpret "depot" as a building.
13:31 mveron      jcamins ++
13:35 drojf hi mveron
13:35 mveron hi drojf
13:35 drojf i think there was another expression for magazin, but i don't remember it
13:36 drojf but if storage room does not sound weird to the native speakers it should be ok ;)
13:36 mveron drojf: No problem, storage room works well in my context.
13:38 cait drojf: closed stacks
13:38 wahanui closed stacks is what we were told to call it
13:38 cait and open stacks
13:38 cait storage room is not quite it i think
13:38 cait hm or I should read back first before talking... *does it now*
13:39 drojf i think i meant stack or closed stack
13:40 drojf i think the concept we have here is not really applicable to the US. i remember a discussion about that at some point
13:41 cait i thik there are some big libraries with remote depots even automated ones
13:41 cait I remember that being mentioned in context with kuali planned developments
13:41 mveron Hi cait :-)
13:41 cait hi mveron :)
13:43 mveron They have not all books available on public areas, some of the book have to be ordered from the -storage room - remote depot - closed stack...
13:45 tcohen kivilahtio: do u plan to test julian's patches (besides adding followups)?
13:46 kivilahtio tcohen: erm... I did take a look at them, but we don't use that featureset. We actually already pushed the REST API to production
13:47 kivilahtio tcohen: but I provided the Swagger2-plugin followup
13:47 kivilahtio tcohen: too bad I am too busy atm. I don't have any extra time. I have one migration coming up in 40 days
13:47 schnydszch hello koha community!
13:48 kivilahtio hi there
13:49 schnydszch hi kivilahtio!
13:49 tcohen jajm: have you seen olli's followup?
13:49 tcohen jajm: should we move it to a new bug to keep things clean?
13:50 kivilahtio tcohen: I think we need somebody else than us to take a look at it
13:51 kivilahtio tcohen: since we are both contributing
13:51 tcohen kivilahtio: my question to jajm is just about the bug workflow
13:51 jajm tcohen, i wrote a comment about this followup and i think we should move it to another bug but i wanted for someone else to take a look at it
13:51 tcohen kivilahtio: not the feature itself
13:54 jajm tcohen, you can be the "someone else" ;) what do you think about this patch ?
13:59 tcohen jajm: fair enough
13:59 tcohen Joubu, cait can I test things?
13:59 tcohen :-D
13:59 Joubu why not?
14:00 tcohen you complain I should push things instead
14:00 cait i think you can in this case
14:00 cait hard enough to find testers
14:00 tcohen ok
14:00 tcohen :-D
14:00 cait jajm: are there 'dummy' instructions for testing somewhere?
14:00 cait talking about me here :) but maybe Joubu will also have time to take a look (which i secretly hope)
14:02 jajm cait, by 'somewhere', you mean, like in a sandbox ?
14:03 schnydszch I'm trying to import a database backup from 3.12.x to 3.20.3, I'm getting this error during import: ERROR 1452 (23000) at line 148310: Cannot add or update a child row: a foreign key constraint fails (`koha_library`.`aqbasket`, CONSTRAINT `aqbasket_ibfk_1` FOREIGN KEY (`booksellerid`) REFERENCES `aqbooksellers` (`id`) ON UPDATE CASCADE)
14:03 cait somewhere can also be text - just something dtailed on how to set this up for somene who has not much of an idea...
14:03 schnydszch I usually delete all tables and import the database, but I inherit problems if I do this, some columns are missed
14:05 schnydszch how do I go through the errors above?
14:09 clrh hello
14:09 clrh thanks Joubu for "reactivness" Oo
14:10 Joubu clrh: :)
14:28 drojf is it me or is the LOC website broken/terribly slow
14:28 drojf ?
14:31 jcamins Pretty broken, yeah.
14:32 drojf ok, thanks for trying
14:43 tcohen did u people get my pledge on koha-devel¡
14:43 tcohen ?
14:43 * nengard goes to look
14:43 drojf so when the MARC documentation is down, does that mean MARC is dead?
14:44 drojf tcohen: yes. put it in the wiki maybe?
14:44 tcohen I need to re-do some patches now, and then test the REST API, sorry :-D
14:56 cait tcohen: newsletter deadline is sometime this week - maybe also good mailing the editor
15:13 reiveune bye
15:19 nitz0 hi!
15:34 drojf slides?
15:34 wahanui Slides are evil! Noone should be forced to write any!
15:45 cait hmpf
15:45 cait slides?
15:45 wahanui Slides are evil! Noone should be forced to write any!
15:46 nengard heh
15:48 cait wahanui botsnack cookie
15:48 wahanui :)
15:48 * cait has reached the last 20% of hers... and now everything is very... slow
15:51 tcohen Joubu: I hope you like it now
15:51 tcohen bug 14217
15:51 huginn 04Bug http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=14217 enhancement, P5 - low, ---, tomascohen, Signed Off , Add a DOM syntax for specifying conditions on indexes
16:02 dojobo hi guys, i'm about to start a new job partly as a systems librarian in charge of a koha instance
16:02 dojobo i haven't used koha before though
16:02 dojobo any tips for getting up to speed (besides just reading the docs on the website)?
16:20 jcamins dojobo: I recommend bribing the developers with cookies and/or fudge.
16:22 cait dojobo: you already did a good first step - joining #koha :)
16:23 cait things you shoudl find out for questiosn later is how your koha was installed and which version you run... for reading material... hard to tell. is there something specific you want to learn about?
16:39 dojobo well first, just how to do typical tasks
16:40 dojobo like importing marc records, editing records, running reports
16:40 dojobo i assume those are pretty straightforward but i want to be prepared on day one when my boss sits me down in front of it
16:41 dojobo then it would be good to learn about known issues and such
16:41 cait dojobo: i think reading through the manual would be helpful then
16:41 dojobo or quirks
16:41 cait also aving a test installation is good
16:41 cait so you can try out things
16:41 cait there are some publicly available demos you could take a look at
16:41 dojobo is a test installation doable on a macbook?
16:42 cait yes, in a virtual environment
16:42 dojobo cool
16:42 cait koha will work best in debian or ubuntu currently - or you can use a kohadevbox
16:42 cait kohadevbox
16:42 wahanui well, kohadevbox is at https://github.com/digibib/kohadevbox
16:42 dojobo i'll probably give that a shot
16:42 cait manual?
16:42 wahanui manual is probably at http://www.koha-community.org/documentation
16:42 cait packages?
16:42 wahanui packages is at http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Debian
16:43 dojobo thanks :)
16:43 dojobo      cait++ jcamins++
16:43 cait where are my cookies... ;)
16:43 dojobo um... they're in the mail
16:44 cait heh
16:45 cait what kind of/what library are you working at?
16:45 dojobo a science library with a small collection
16:46 cait cool
16:46 cait where is it?
16:46 wahanui it is important as it gives a period in which their literary contribution/s was/were made
16:46 dojobo specifically, the library at the european southern observatory's HQ
16:46 dojobo so mainly astronomy
16:46 dojobo it's near munich
16:46 cait oh :)
16:46 cait I work at BSZ in Konstanz :)
16:47 dojobo cool :)
16:47 dojobo oh that's not terribly far
16:47 cait no not really
16:47 cait compared to most people you can talk here with
16:48 cait Koha covers all timezones
16:48 dojobo gotta run but will bbl. we'll definitely chat some more, thanks for the tips :)
16:48 cait np
16:48 cait welcome :)
16:50 cait bbl too
17:07 Joubu bye
17:21 tcohen Joubu: ?
17:35 tcohen do we have problems with double quotes inside subfields?
17:41 jcamins tcohen: I have no objection. Carriage returns and newlines I object to, but I don't mind double quotes.
17:41 tcohen hehe
17:41 tcohen :-P
17:41 jcamins Oh, I also object to non-standard whitespace.
17:42 tcohen a librarian has just saved a record in Koha, with double-quotes in it
17:43 tcohen and it f*ng broke http://snag.gy/2uSGe.jpg
17:43 drojf taht should probably be escaped in marcxml :P
17:44 drojf that
17:44 tcohen drojf: who's fault is?
17:44 drojf the cataloguing module's?
17:45 drojf but in the end… you are the release manager, so it's yours :P
17:45 tcohen o-o
17:45 tcohen .-/
17:45 tcohen :-P
17:45 tcohen i'd say is the release maintainer's fault =D =D
17:48 magnuse i blame MARC!
17:48 tcohen magnuse: if it was JSON, we would manage to break it too :-D
17:50 * liw takes the blame
17:50 tcohen heh
17:52 tcohen hi liw
19:34 tcohen bye #koha
19:42 nitz0 it sounds like a suicide
21:41 pianohacker beep bep
21:49 wizzyrea sp
21:50 wizzyrea I love(hate) how obsessed people are with the support list.
22:03 jcamins [off] wizzyrea: why aren't I on the support list? I'm OFFICIAL!!!!!
22:03 jcamins [off] said in the same tone as children say "but Bobby had TWO lollypops."
22:03 wizzyrea [off] can't even.
22:04 jcamins Speaking of desserts, I just read a book on truffles, turtles, and barks. It was called "truffles, turtles, and barks." Now I want to make candy.
22:11 dojobo anyone used the devbox lately? vagrant said it couldn't find chef/debian-7.8
22:11 dojobo it wants to try bento/debian-7.8 instead
22:11 wizzyrea not lately no.
22:11 wizzyrea did you apt-get install vagrant?
22:11 wizzyrea because you shouldn't
22:11 dojobo nah, homebrew, and i checked that it was the latest version
22:12 wizzyrea which version is that?
22:12 dojobo ah looks like the vagrant box was just renamed at some point
22:12 wizzyrea 1.74?
22:12 dojobo yeah
22:13 dojobo https://atlas.hashicorp.com/chef/boxes/debian-7.8 describes a box called bento/debian-7.8
22:13 dojobo so i'll just change the vagrantfile to that
22:15 dojobo if this ends up working i guess i'll submit a pull request
22:16 wizzyrea probably best.
22:29 eythian hi
23:02 jcamins wizzyrea: have you made watermelon (or similar) "caviar"?
23:02 wizzyrea I have not, what does that entail?
23:02 wizzyrea I have made watermelon/feta salad though.
23:02 jcamins !!
23:02 jcamins http://toastable.com/2010/watermelon-caviar-an-introduction-to-molecular-gastronomy/
23:02 jcamins I haven't either, but it seemed like something you would've done.
23:03 wizzyrea hehe
23:03 wizzyrea it does look fun
23:03 wizzyrea I have eaten similar things, but I've never made them
23:04 jcamins I've never even eaten it.
23:04 wizzyrea at the yogurt shop they often have juicy ball things
23:04 wizzyrea bigger than caviar, technically.
23:05 wizzyrea this must be what they are.
23:05 jcamins Yeah, probably.
23:05 wizzyrea frogurt, even.
23:05 jcamins I want to serve them at my dessert brunch.
23:05 wizzyrea frogurt, even.
23:05 wizzyrea lol dammit.
23:09 ibeardslee hmm I wonder if you could use other things .. eg tomato or carrot juice
23:10 jcamins Yup.
23:10 jcamins For acidic things you need to use different chemicals, though.
23:21 wizzyrea carrot juice could probably be done this way
23:21 jcamins Yeah, probably.
23:21 jcamins It's just tomato that I'd expect to have a problem.
23:21 jcamins Based on absolutely no first-hand experience.
23:22 wizzyrea :)
23:30 ibeardslee I'm imagining a single lettuce leaf containing different shades and colours of 'caviar' from a bunch of different juices and a dollop of unsweetened yoghurt.
23:31 jcamins ibeardslee: that sounds like the way it's supposed to be served.
23:32 jcamins If I serve it, I'll just have a little tiny little grape juice glass with a couple spheres, because I can't imagine wanting more than one or two.
23:36 wizzyrea a couple would be not very much.
23:36 Francesca @wunder wlg
23:36 huginn Francesca: The current temperature in Wellington, New Zealand is 9.0°C (11:00 AM NZST on September 22, 2015). Conditions: Overcast. Humidity: 87%. Dew Point: 7.0°C. Pressure: 29.83 in 1010 hPa (Steady).
23:37 wizzyrea I wonder why we didn't make the patrons menu on the navbar have "New Patron" on it
23:37 wizzyrea that seems like a sensible thing to have there?
23:38 wizzyrea I guess it's two clicks either way
23:38 wizzyrea less mouse moving though.
23:38 jcamins wizzyrea: true, but how many exploding balls of watermelon would you really want?
23:39 wizzyrea that depends, is there icecream?
23:39 wizzyrea ^.^
23:39 jcamins Probably not. No space in the freezer.
23:44 jcamins :(
23:57 Doorook Hello, it's me again. I'm 2 inch from managing what I'm trying to do, I feel it. I managed to batch import some documents and to get the notice in Koha though MarcEdit (this tutorial I found summarize well how to do it : http://manual.koha-community.org/3.4/en/managestaged.html). Problem is when I go to the OPAC, I cannot see any document unless if thoses one are set to be part of a "list"
23:58 Doorook I reloaded the zebra indexing and stuff, but nothing happened
23:58 Doorook Am I missing something important here ?
