14:21 ambz Hi all, how should I catalog a book that has no author?
14:21 ambz For example, I have a book that is a collection of folk songs, and there is author/editor or anything...
14:29 ambz Any suggestions?

20:41 bmetcalf I have an interesting problem and a possible solution I'd like to run past you to check for trouble-points.
20:41 bmetcalf My library collection is in a location with no electrical power, no internet access, and limited cellphone access.
20:42 bmetcalf My thought was to copy the entire koha server onto a laptop, take it in to do work, then upload back to the fixed server each day.
20:42 bmetcalf Where should I expect to find problems in this process?
20:42 bmetcalf And what all would I need to copy back and forth to effect it?
20:46 druthb The only thing you have to copy around, assuming that both instances of Koha are on the same version, is the mysql database. Debian-on-a-laptop is non-trivial, though you could run it in a Virtual Box or something; I've done that before.
20:46 bmetcalf Sounds doable, presuming I can identify the mysql database.
20:47 bmetcalf Why is Debian-on-a-laptop non-trivial?
20:47 druthb be careful that the fixed server doesn't get *changed* whilst you're on the laptop--those changes would be lost. This assumes you'll reindex after you reload the DB--copying the indexes around is not as easy.
20:47 druthb Drivers for video cards, mice and such, are occasionally a problem.
20:47 bmetcalf We have a tiny staff, so changes to the server while working remotely are unlikely.
20:48 bmetcalf Reindex ... that refers to zebra reindexing? (Haven't had to do that manually yet.)
20:48 druthb yes.
20:48 druthb copy the database in with mysqldump and restore, then reindex on the target box. Each and every time... I'm assuming this library is not-large.
20:48 bmetcalf Drivers, yes, especially for printers and ethernet adapters. I expect I can surmount those problems. Any others to watch for?
20:49 druthb nope, video and wireless adapters tend to be the things I bump into most.
20:49 bmetcalf At present, the library has fewer than 3000 items, but a potential for 10 to 20 times that many.
20:49 bmetcalf The previous system could not be transferred.
20:50 bmetcalf I'll see the Debian problems then long before I transfer the data. Good.
20:50 druthb When it gets to the upper limit of that, reindexing will take some time--depending on how macho the hardware is, a half-hour to an hour, maybe.
20:50 bmetcalf Given the other constraints, that sounds like something I could live with -- at least once a week.
20:51 bmetcalf Any specific ideas for Debian Squeeze and Koha 3.14?
20:51 bmetcalf And can you offer a quick explanation of why I don't want to copy the index files?
20:53 druthb You *could* move the indexes, if you like. Stop the zebra and the cron jobs, copy the files with tar or whatever, then start zebra again. But you've gotta move the mysql and the index *closely* together--make sure you turn zebra off before starting, to prevent them from getting out of synch.
20:53 druthb For small libraries, it's usually less hassle to just reindex.
20:53 bmetcalf Makes sense, thanks.
20:54 druthb Squeeze and 3.14 should present no problem; you could even do Wheezy, I suspect, though if the laptop is brand-new, might have video drivers missing or something.
20:54 druthb Koha's easy to install with packages, on either release.
20:54 bmetcalf I wanted to use Squeeze so the fixed server and laptop would be on the same release; same with the Koha release.
20:55 bmetcalf Yes, I'm using packages (thank goodness they're available!)
20:55 bmetcalf Okay, so this sounds like something that could work, provided the laptop is happy with Squeeze, and I remember to reindex each time. I'll build a batch file to make sure of that.
20:56 bmetcalf Thanks so much for the quick read on this. It's much appreciated.
20:56 druthb sure thing. :)
