00:33 pianohacker hi all
00:33 dcook heya pianohacker :)
00:34 pianohacker hey dcook
00:34 pianohacker happy 2014!
00:35 dcook Thanks. Happy NY to you too!
00:41 pianohacker I'm in washington, not new york...
00:42 pianohacker seriously, canadiense, get it together
00:44 dcook :p
00:44 dcook What are you doing in Washington?
00:45 pianohacker Visiting gf's family. Quite nice here, if rather wet and cold
00:50 dcook I am enjoying the heat and dryness down here, although a whiteless Christmas was a bit odd.
00:50 dcook Are you along the coast? I suppose they wouldn't have much snow either.
00:51 pianohacker Yup, near Seattle. No snow, just fog and rain. I forget you're in the middle of summer :)
00:52 dcook Fog and rain don't sound too bad. I'm sure I would kill for them over the next month or two.
00:52 dcook I think I'm just getting over some sunburn :p
00:55 pianohacker so weird to think about. Was below zero for a good week in colorado a month ago...
00:56 pianohacker gotta head out, family is coming to visit. Good to see you dcook, take it easy!
03:03 mtompset Happy New Year, dcook.
03:03 mtompset Happy New Year, cait-m__ :)
03:04 mtompset Well, enough greetings. Must get ready for the 9:30am realities tomorrow.
03:04 mtompset Have a great day, #koha.
05:32 dcook Eeep. When we're sending in template patches for the OPAC, are we sending in patches for prog, ccsr, and bootstrap?
05:54 dcook Whoa, when did 4:54 happen?
06:02 dcook Good first day back. Tootles, #koha.
06:49 * magnuse waves "happy new year" to #koha
06:50 * cait wishes #koha a happy new year too :)

07:52 cait good morning reiveune
07:54 magnuse bonjour sophie_m
07:56 sophie_m hello magnuse, happy new year :-)

08:02 cait happy new year!
08:39 nlegrand hey #koha and happy new year!
08:39 cait happy new year nlegrand
08:40 paul_p happy new year everyone !
08:41 cait happy new year paul_p
08:41 paul_p full of joy, hacking and fun. Discussions, decisions and actions. Love and peace.
08:41 paul_p cait was your "switch to 2014" a good nice time ? Mine was really perfect : 10 friends at home, was a marvelous time, really !
08:42 cait visited friends, it was very nice
08:42 paul_p ( eated a lot of very very good things: everyone came with something to share )
08:43 paul_p (and we watched some photos from Mauritius, were 2 of us just came back from wedding trip. and we song, one of us playing guitar)
08:43 paul_p really a wonderful time.
08:52 magnuse sounds like a good start to a new year!
09:22 magnuse hei petter
09:23 cait hi petter and happy new year
09:23 magnuse godt nyttår!
09:24 petter god nyttår/happy newyear everybody!
09:24 petter 2014 is gonna be great
09:24 magnuse yup!
09:24 petter I can feel it allready
09:24 cait :)
10:54 magnuse hiya ashimema
10:55 ashimema Hi magnuse
11:00 cait happy new year ashimema
11:00 ashimema Happy new yes cait.. hope you all had a good one
11:01 ashimema Happy new year cait.. hope you all had a good one
11:04 cait 25mins until pizza
11:17 magnuse pizza?!?
11:17 wahanui i guess pizza is in the oven.
11:17 magnuse yay!
11:20 cait monday pizza!
11:27 * magnuse wonders who kb2qzv is/was
11:27 * magnuse chides himself for not reaching his "100 patches in koha before 2013-12-31" goal
11:47 ashimema that's a good new years resolution magnuse.. I may follow suit with a "QA's done per month" target for myself..
11:47 ashimema now to work out what a realistic goal is for that ;)
11:48 ashimema the last one I decided to do is taking me forever to battle with and get everything tested..
11:48 * ashimema thinks he needs to choose some easier patches for the next round
11:48 kivilahtio Hi there! And happy new year!
11:49 kivilahtio I hope it will the best so far
11:50 kivilahtio We got a babyfood maker as a christmas gift ;) I guess we need a baby first...
11:50 kivilahtio anyway.
11:50 kivilahtio Does anyone have a self check-in machine in their libraries?
11:50 kivilahtio currently looking into how to instruct the check-in machine to sort the returned material
11:51 kivilahtio maybe will have to add some directives to the SIPconfig.xml
11:51 kivilahtio or maybe just sort based on the home location
12:00 mtompset Greetings, #koha.
12:01 kivilahtio hi mtompset
12:01 mtompset Greetings, kivilahtio! Happy New Year. :)
12:04 kivilahtio mtompset: you too, did you fire any rockets?
12:04 kivilahtio or missiles?
12:05 mtompset No. That would require affording fireworks.
12:05 mtompset My budget is rather tight, and I fear it could get even tighter soon.
12:05 kivilahtio I understand
12:05 kivilahtio I hope things get better
12:05 kivilahtio I guess there is a growing demand for Koha techies
12:06 kivilahtio globally
12:51 oleonard Happy New Year #koha
12:52 cait happy new year oleonard :)
12:56 oleonard I hope you had a nice holiday cait
12:59 cait i had thx, hope you had too :)
13:00 oleonard Yes. It's been a while since I had a break where I thought so little about work
13:00 dbs magnuse: I'm interested to hear more about your linked data plans for Koha; will keep an eye on your blog / mailing list accordingly :)
13:00 francharb Morning #koha
13:00 cait hi francharb and happy new year!
13:01 francharb Hello cait and happy new year to you too!!
13:01 francharb :)
13:01 cait oleonard: same for me i think
13:03 oleonard Only 410 unread emails! But 267 of those are from Bugzilla.
13:16 mtompset Happy New Year, oleonard cait dbs francharb
13:16 mtompset cait: I think I found that 0 0 error you were talking about on the basket group stuff. :)
13:17 mtompset It's because the SQL results don't include invoiceprice in the GetBasketsByBasketgroup function.
13:20 cait the whole way this works is wrong with me
13:20 cait we shouldn#t be adding spaces to a pl file really, but it should be n the template
13:20 cait but it's a first patch, so I think it's ok
13:21 cait but i didn't really want to dig deeper there and find more things like this :)
13:34 magnuse dbs: cool! i only hope i can find some time to work on it a bit
13:38 dbs magnuse: I would be happy to work with you; over in #evergreen I have a branch to add structured data for library branch info (location, hours, contact info, etc) for anything that's already in Evergreen's database schema
13:39 magnuse dbs: cool, i'll keep that in mind :-)
13:39 dbs I had started trying to install the Koha database schema but that's when I ran into the PostgreSQL schema no longer being supported :) -- happy to see that DBIx::Class may help resurrect support in 3.16!
13:39 magnuse      dbic++
13:39 magnuse well, it will take some time before all of Koha uses dbic, i guess...
13:41 magnuse druthb!
13:41 wahanui Well, she finally snapped, like we all knew she would.
13:46 druthb magnuse!
13:46 wahanui well, magnuse is afraid that we added another 10000 bugs while he was eating pizza.

13:48 druthb mhm. Very windy here, close to 50 kph gusts, so it *feels* positively frigid.

13:56 druthb BRR!
13:56 druthb That is wicked cold!
13:56 dbs magnuse: back to structured / linked data; exposing the structured data for each branch via separate URLs enables me to link the items from the record details page to their respective libraries. I'm hoping to do that for Koha, too...
13:56 * dbs will probably skip cross-country skiing for another day :)
13:56 magnuse that is cold!
13:56 druthb srsly
13:57 magnuse dbs: cool! how do you go about "exposing the structured data"?
13:58 dbs magnuse: just a given page (e.g. http://hostname/eg/opac/library/branch1) with the corresponding http://schema.org/Library properties, including OpeningHoursSpecification, etc
13:59 magnuse ah, cool
13:59 dbs magnuse: not sure if Koha already has something like that publicly visible for branches
13:59 magnuse no, don't think so
13:59 dbs Not as cool as your SPARQL endpoint goals :)
13:59 magnuse but it could be a nice thing to have!
14:00 magnuse well, add some content negotiation to your pages and bob's your uncle ;-)
14:01 dbs magnuse: yeah, it seems like a common missing piece for an integrated library system - you dump all of your branch info into the system for purposes of calculating fines, etc, but then manually recode it (usually with conflicting info) on separate web pages
14:03 * oleonard attaches the other end of a bungee cord to barton
14:04 barton IP address conflict :-/
14:04 barton stupid router.
14:04 * druthb plucks the taut bungee, making funny "bwong" noises with it.
14:05 barton If it had been been a slinkey, at least I could have gotten some neat 'ging ging ging' noises out of it...
14:06 * barton considers IP-over-slinkey.
14:06 magnuse dbs: yeah, and koha can store all sorts of adress info etc about libraries
14:07 druthb Ham radio operators have been using slinkys for impromptu radio antennae for years. They're quite decent, if you can get 'em tuned up right.
14:07 oleonard ...and if you are sure to get the metal kind :P
14:08 druthb :P yes.
14:08 bgallagher Hey there y'all - from Phuket

14:09 bgallagher Happy new year druthb
14:09 druthb me either, oleonard. When I was a kid, they didn't make too many of the plastic ones—metal were the ones you usually found.

14:14 bgallagher oleonard: It's really amazing
14:14 oleonard bgallagher: I can't remember if we talked about it at KohaCon, but my wife and eldest daughter and I spent about a week in Thailand summer before last. We loved it.
14:15 barton yes bgallagher, oleonard is really amazing.

14:47 oleonard Facebook has a footer?
14:47 jcamins Yeah, but good luck clicking on any of the links in it.
14:52 oleonard jcamins: It's just cruel to have a link in the footer that says "cookies" but you can never click it
14:55 druthb A sci-fi show some years ago had a button on the show's web page "Naked pictures of cast"…if you attempted to hover it, it would *move* to a different part of the page. Totally unclickable.
14:55 jcamins oleonard: if you're fast enough to click it, they'll ship you a plate of cookies.
14:56 druthb Facebook's cookies would not be as good as your cookies, jcamins.

16:50 ebegin -26 :(
16:50 oleonard Ouch!
16:50 rambutan gee, that's colder than here
16:51 rambutan maybe it would be possible to graft a pine tree onto a palm tree root and have a northern palm?
16:51 ebegin it is really cold and it feels even colder
16:52 * druthb does not miss that. Nope nope nope
16:54 druthb someone asked me if I wanted to move back to DC. I remember standing outside waiting for a bus in -20C windchill a little too well for that, thankee.
16:55 jcamins druthb: on the other hand, it only took a single snowflake to give you a snow-week.
16:55 druthb yesssss....
16:56 druthb In DC, the magic number is 8. As in "8 inches of snow." Because that is the height of the third-rail on the Metro. Once the snow gets that deep, they have to take extraordinary measures to keep the third rail clear, or shut the system down.
16:57 jcamins druthb: other people have reported DC shutting down with eight flakes of snow.
16:57 druthb for drivers, yes. The Beltway is a madhouse on clear dry days.
16:57 druthb Non-drivers are a bit more resilient.
16:58 jcamins Ah.
16:59 druthb There's a possibly-apocryphal story of a DC government department that, when it snowed, didn't recommend staying in, but said, "take the Metro." As it was only a two-block walk from the nearest station, this was actually a reasonable way to keep things up and running.
17:00 jcamins druthb: that sounds entirely reasonable to me.
17:02 druthb I think so too. My old office in DC was so far out in the weeds it took a 25-minute bus ride to the nearest Metro stop; when the weather got bad, the office was a graveyard. (Their new location is, in fact, a short *walk* from my old apartment complex there.)

17:14 francharb I havent found a bug report on bugzilla...

17:16 cait you are aware that item related facets are not good when combining 2 of them?
17:16 cait say you search by branch and by itemtype
17:17 cait your search will include all records, that have items at branch x and at least one item with itemtype y
17:17 francharb oh yes
17:17 cait so it also includes records where there is no item y at x
17:17 francharb :)

22:25 eythian I'm sure the rain is going up, maybe it only counts what hits the ground.
22:25 rangi Rain, clearing evening. Gale northwest, gusts 140 km/h.
22:26 rangi http://www.metservice.com/maps-radar/maps/tasman-sea-nz
22:26 rangi theres just way too many lines on this map
22:26 * dcook is glad that he's not the only one who thinks so
22:41 dcook Mmm, while folks are around...
22:41 mtompset Actually, I think the issue with the lines is poor coloring. After all, it is hard to tell the front lines apart from the pressure area lines.
22:41 dcook What is the current plan for OPAC template changes?
22:41 dcook Do we have to make changes to prog, ccsr, and bootstrap?
22:41 rangi for master?
22:41 mtompset I thought ccsr was the last choice in the things to update. :)
22:42 dcook rangi: Yup, for master
22:42 rangi bootstrap is going to be the default in 3.16 so thats the first one to make changes for, then prog if you want
22:42 dcook Sweet. Thanks, rangi.
22:42 rangi but id check that with gmcharlt
22:42 dcook Sounds good.
22:42 gmcharlt confirmed
22:43 dcook \o/
22:43 gmcharlt and bootstrap is the default now, btw
22:43 rangi ah thats right, for all new ones yet
22:43 dcook now?
22:43 wahanui it has been said that now is good time with holidays coming up
22:43 rangi yep
22:43 gmcharlt yes, for all new ones; it isn't a forced default for upgrade
22:44 dcook Makes sense. When did the bootstrap theme come in ?
22:44 dcook 3.14?
22:44 wahanui somebody said 3.14 was coming out in November, so anything that gets bumped shouldn't be waiting too long.
22:46 gmcharlt yes
22:49 dcook Excellent. Thanks rangi and gmcharlt :)
22:49 dcook (and oleonard, of course)
22:55 francharb happy new year for those I havent seen yewt
22:55 francharb yet
22:55 francharb and see you tomorrow
22:55 francharb ;)
22:55 jcamins rangi: I hadn't even looked at the screenshots, but I was pretty impressed when you pointed it out... he's installing proprietary software on a proprietary OS that isn't supported by anyone in the Koha community. What thought process makes this seem like a good idea?
22:55 jcamins (screenshots were OS X)
22:56 mtompset Koha is a pain to attempt to install on OpenBSD... I did try once... I gave up, before I had learned about cpan2deb. :)
22:57 jcamins Also, Happy New Year!
22:58 jcamins Hm. Redundant sentence is repetitive. No one supports any proprietary OSes with Koha.
22:58 rambutan openbsd has allegedly good security, it would be a good platform to support
22:59 jcamins rambutan: yeah, but the screenshot looked remarkably like OS X, no?
22:59 mtompset Yes, but if you can install in OpenBSD easily, then OS X should be easy enough. :)
22:59 mtompset They are family.
23:00 rambutan I couldn't tell, I even went back and looked. I've used macs, we've got a couple here, but I'm not familiar enough with them
23:00 eythian not that close
23:00 eythian especially these days
23:00 eythian (at least, that's my understanding. I've not used either in a very long time.)
23:01 jcamins eythian: no? I thought /Users was OS X-only.
23:01 rangi OSX is based on the mach kernel
23:01 mtompset By the way, are you trying to train the intern to do sign offs too? :)
23:01 rangi with bits of netbsd and freebsd
23:02 eythian OSX has a freebsd userland
23:02 rangi its not really close to openbsd at all
23:02 jcamins Yeah, but not file structure.
23:02 eythian yeah, they separated a long time ago.
23:02 eythian jcamins: that's what I'm saying, in part :)
23:02 jcamins eythian: oh, okay. I thought you were saying that it was OpenBSD.
23:02 rangi yep
23:02 eythian jcamins: no, not at all.
23:02 mtompset bug 11471 is a follow up triggered by bug 9654.

23:03 mtompset No, that was me. :)
23:03 eythian also, I think apple has made the userland a bit more stupid than it probably is in any BSD, just due to mild neglect.
23:03 eythian I somewhat regularly hear about dumb little bugs in it.
23:03 rangi i dont think it took any of openbsd, just stuff from free and net
23:03 jcamins Myshkin is having a sneezing attack. It's extraordinary.
23:03 jcamins eythian: oh god yes. So many bugs.
23:03 rangi and made darwin, which is pretty much totally reworked by now
23:03 jcamins My favorite is the ab bug.
23:04 * mtompset sighs, "If only my apple fan boy friends were here to listen."
23:04 jcamins "Warning: running ab will require 100% CPU on every single core you have, and never make a single request."
23:04 rangi however if someone wanted to support Koha on OpenBSD there would be nothing stopping them
23:05 mtompset I just wish Linux variants could all agree on a single packaging scheme.
23:05 eythian jcamins: so, it bechmarks the client rather than the server?
23:05 rambutan jcamins: not asthma? Craziest thing, but Lexus has asthma and it usually only bothers her in the winter--have to get a cortisone shot.
23:05 jcamins eythian: exactly.
23:06 jcamins rambutan: he's never had problems with it before.
23:06 eythian hmm. I want to go get lunch, but I _really_ don't want to go outside right now.
23:06 dcook Time to build a waterproof robot?
23:06 * dcook isn't sure about the time efficiency but it's a suggestion.
23:06 rangi yeah i think im gonna wait this downpour out
23:07 mtompset @wunder l7e5y5
23:07 huginn mtompset: The current temperature in Schomberg, Ontario is -19.1°C (5:43 PM EST on January 02, 2014). Conditions: Low Drifting Snow. Humidity: 62%. Dew Point: -24.0°C. Windchill: -19.0°C. Pressure: 30.14 in 1021 hPa (Rising).
23:07 mtompset That sounds about right. It's freezing here!
23:08 mtompset Now if we could build a heat transfer link between NZ and Ontario, we could get everyone to 0. :)
