02:58 mtompset Greetings, #koha.
08:00 cait hi drojf
09:09 bigbrovar_ Hi guys, I am a sysadmin who finds himself working with koha and marc tag.. (the librarians can't in this school can't be bothered so I have to do the heavy lifting) anyway I am coverting their spreadsheet records to marc21.. I have pretty much done all the mapping. I just need to understand how koha manages multiple copies of a particular item
09:11 bigbrovar_ do I list each copy in the spreadsheet am about to convert (to marc) and use different accession numbers (as unique identifier) or is there a marc (or koha holding tag) which indicates the number copies for a particular item.
09:12 cait in koha copies/items are held in 952
09:12 cait you want a 952 for each item
09:13 cait best is to have them all on one record
09:13 cait if you can manage that
09:13 bigbrovar_ also what in (layman terms) is the koha holding tag 952$t
09:13 cait else you might want to import the bibliographic data without the items at first and attach the items later
09:13 cait hm i have to check
09:13 cait what you really need to set is a b o and p probably
09:14 cait oh and y
09:14 bigbrovar_ cait: it says copy number .. is that the number of copies for an item.. or the specific number (like unique number for an item)
09:14 cait a unique number for that item
09:14 cait if you have the same callnumber for all the items
09:15 cait you can use that as a sequential number to identify an individual item
09:15 cait the copy number will be shown together with the callnumber in a lot of places
09:15 cait 952 subfiels always refer to the single item, never to all of them
09:17 bigbrovar_ cait: my next dumb question would be to ask: what is callnumber (the librarian I asked didn't know.. library edu in my country is still stone age)
09:17 bigbrovar_ is the call number the same as cutter number or the classification number
09:17 cait normally it#s what#s on the label on the back on the book
09:17 cait what you use to find the book on the shelf
09:18 cait makes sense?
09:18 cait so i think it could be cutter number or classification number in oyur case
09:18 bigbrovar_ cait: yes.. they have the classification number at the back of the book in the library here
09:18 cait not sure about the differences between the terms though
09:18 cait then i would put that in as callnumber
09:18 cait where are you from bigbrovar?
09:19 bigbrovar_ Nigeria
09:19 wahanui Nigeria is well ahead?
09:19 bigbrovar_ wahanui: Library edu here is very backword..
09:19 wahanui OK, bigbrovar_.
09:20 bigbrovar_ I had to introduce koha to the degree holding librarians and educate them about Marc
09:20 bigbrovar_ and authority records
09:21 cait OH
09:21 cait ah sorry caps
09:21 cait oh :) - but it looks like you are finding your way around :)
09:21 bigbrovar_ cait: thanks alot mate. You have been very very helpful
09:21 cait np
09:21 cait hope it works out
09:24 bigbrovar_ Thanks alot.
10:58 cait hi #koha
11:53 cait bgkriegel++ and fingers crossed
13:52 cait yay!
13:53 * cait just installed her new printer and is very happy now :)
18:06 jcamins Does anyone have any idea what the point of aqorders.budgetgroup_id is?
18:28 jcamins I'll take that as a no.
18:32 * jcamins waves to cait1
18:32 cait1 wavws back
18:32 cait1 brb
19:41 jcamins     libsysguy: missing C4::Search?
19:42 libsysguy haha
19:42 libsysguy I came to see if anyone had burned it to the ground yet
19:43 libsysguy I guess the threat (AKA C4::Search) remains :p
19:43 jcamins Yep. We saved it for you.
19:43 * libsysguy ducks away
19:44 libsysguy actually after coming back from YAPC this year there has been something that has been bugging me
19:44 libsysguy where the heck did the C4 namespace come from?
19:44 cait i think something to do with the old system hlt had
19:44 cait rngi would know
19:44 cait and because it was supposed to be explosive? :)
19:45 libsysguy oh like a namespace migration from the old system
19:45 libsysguy I think when I first started I didn't really think about it
19:45 cait hm not really i think
19:46 libsysguy but now that I am working on some stuff from the ground floor and having to think of naming conventions…I was like…where in the world did C4 come from :p
19:46 jcamins It was an abbreviation.
19:46 jcamins And I think the previous system was C3.
19:47 libsysguy   so like the languages A, B, C, C++, now D
19:47 libsysguy :p
19:47 jcamins Right.
19:48 rangi c2
19:48 libsysguy eek rangi is here
19:48 * libsysguy runs :p
19:48 rangi c4 was the working name for koha, before it was koha, it was either going to be twice as good or explode
19:48 jcamins rangi: nice!
19:48 rangi it was also called kumara for a short period of time too
19:48 jcamins @quote add <@rangi> c4 was the working name for koha, before it was koha, it was either going to be twice as good or explode
19:48 huginn` jcamins: Error: You must be registered to use this command. If you are already registered, you must either identify (using the identify command) or add a hostmask matching your current hostmask (using the "hostmask add" command).

19:49 libsysguy poop

19:50 jcamins cait: any chance you could add the quote?

19:52 libsysguy but I did identify
19:52 libsysguy I guess I can't with huginn`
19:52 cait rangi? :)
19:56 jcamins Want to see something cool?
19:56 jcamins Of course you do! http://screencast.com/t/k5EqZegiIh9
19:56 libsysguy oh my…is that plack support?
19:56 libsysguy :p
19:56 jcamins No, I said cool not miraculous.
19:57 libsysguy hehe
20:24 jcamins Ugh. We don't use navigation.inc correctly.
