00:00 rangi non english speakers aren't second class citizens
00:00 rangi but the rest, yep that could go separate
00:01 wajasu i'm getting worn out checking the breadth of the bug. i just want to be able to test just the new stuff as a second bug.
00:04 rangi a second patch maybe
00:04 rangi thats fine
00:04 rangi but not a new bug
00:05 wajasu he keeps squashing them together.
00:05 rangi i think that kyle already has fixed the translation stuff
00:05 rangi well talk to him then :)
00:05 rangi there is no way that it should be pushed without working for more than english
00:05 wajasu i agree.
00:06 rangi i personally hate squashing patches
00:06 rangi after they have been attached to a bug
00:06 rangi i much prefer a follow up
00:07 rangi but others seem to like squashing
00:07 wajasu i'm leaving it alone. someone else needs to get familiar with it. i think he is trying to help QA to have less to apply. i know if he didn't squash, there would be 8-10 patches.
00:08 rangi yep
00:08 rangi and often that is a lot easier to QA
00:08 rangi big monolithic patches suck
00:08 * rangi spent 3 months breaking huge patches into smaller ones to actually get them testable
00:09 wajasu he probably should have tested more thoroughly before, and not used a signer to do that work. he did get burned by the switch from YUI js and converted, so its been a long road for him.
00:11 rangi *nod*
00:11 wajasu i totally agree that if koha is going to make it in the long run, its got to get more tests. and folks need to run them.
00:12 rangi you mean continue to make it :)
00:13 rangi 12 years isnt short for software
00:13 rangi but yes more tests are always good
00:13 wajasu yes. its rare. but its the community.
00:13 rangi hmm?
00:14 rangi not sure i understand what you mean
00:14 wajasu the community supporting it is what makes it survive/valuable.
00:14 rangi thats what makes any free software project
00:14 rangi thats not unique
00:15 wajasu its the need/market then.
00:15 rangi what exactly is your point? Im failing to see
00:18 wajasu i was thinking about the rss and smsoverdues modules. should they be fixed? or fall to the wayside unitl someone else has a need?
00:19 rangi the rss isn't done that old way, the current rss feeds work fine, so it can probably be gotten rid of, we don't need cron jobs to generate static rss etc anyway
00:20 rangi sms, id leave until someone has money/desire to do them
00:21 rangi my rule for my free time, is work on stuff i enjoy, ill work on boring stuff if people pay me
00:21 rangi its a good rule and has worked well for the last 16 years
00:22 wajasu same here. plenty to do that i enjoy.
00:26 wajasu i thought i would put a dent in the 80+ bugs needing signoff in August, but new ones keep appearing. i wonder howmany of the current 103 will make it to 3.10?
00:26 wajasu 103 signedoff
00:27 rangi hmm?
00:27 rangi theres only 71 needing signoff
00:27 rangi im more focused on the 19 passed QA
00:27 rangi then any out of the 103 that are bug fixes
00:27 rangi thats what I would look at if was RM
00:28 rangi but im not thankfully
00:28 rangi 5 times is enough
00:28 rangi 5 sign off for september from you
00:28 rangi and 5 in august
00:28 rangi so you can break your record still have 18 days to go :)
00:29 rangi http://blog.bigballofwax.co.nz/2012/09/01/signoffs-for-august-2012/
00:30 wajasu math is fun. how about how many times one tested and failedQA. i'm up there.
00:31 rangi 2 secs ill tell ya
00:32 rangi 4 for august
00:33 rangi 3 for september
00:33 rangi joubu wins that
00:33 rangi 14 for august
00:37 wajasu you know when i was testing search and fuzzy, i wondered why when i search for 1000 ways
00:37 wajasu it didn't find things unless i put "1,000 ways"
00:37 wajasu the comman in a number might be something to strip for an index.
01:33 plattcollege hello, any idea how I can start troubleshooting this issue: I am trying to upload a .mrc file that I exported from koha. After selecting the file for upload, I click upload it reloads the page without staging anything
01:35 rangi what version of koha?
01:38 plattcollege 3.8
01:38 rangi 3.8. what? 3.8.0 ?
01:38 rangi if you look at the about page it will tell you the version number
01:38 plattcollege 3.8.4
01:38 plattcollege I think
01:38 plattcollege the system is not in front of me
01:39 rangi id look at the apache logs
01:39 plattcollege it behaves as if it will begin the upload saying uploading zero percent then reloads the page
01:39 plattcollege ic
01:41 plattcollege I did a patron upload and it staged ok but... this shows no errors just a reload
01:42 plattcollege thx
01:42 rangi i havent seen it happen but i'd check the apache logs, also check the staged marc page
01:42 rangi in case it did stage in the background
01:43 plattcollege yeah, I checked stage; it is clear
01:43 plattcollege thanks for the help
01:43 bag hmmm fly by
01:43 rangi mibbit
01:43 rangi usually are
01:43 bag weird I would like to hear if they figured it out
01:44 rangi well he wasnt actually at his system
01:44 * bag googles plattcollege
01:45 bag especially if they are on at this time of night (must be close to me :) )
01:45 bag I can use more dev's close to me
01:45 bag I want to have a regional hackfest day
01:49 rangi good idea
01:54 jcamins_away Surprisingly few devs out on that coast.
02:26 jcamins_away eythian++ # for thinking "hey, I bet people will want to add more source functions for converting CSVs to MARC"
02:43 jcamins_away rangi: I think you'll appreciate this article that just came across my RSS reader: Eclipse editor plugin for MARC. It just feels *right*, somehow, doesn't it?
02:45 rangi heh
02:45 rangi lets pour some bloat on our bloat, and add a side of java
02:47 jcamins_away Yes please!
02:47 jcamins_away :D
02:47 rangi have you played with book psychic jcamins_away ?
02:47 jcamins_away I have not, though I saw the announcement.
02:47 rangi once HLT have finished their move into their new building i might test it with them
02:47 rangi they have LTFL
02:48 jcamins_away :)
03:04 * wajasu just messed with cpanfile and carton to install Plack and starman. sweeeet!
03:25 mtompset Nice. :)
03:28 wajasu just di a hello world!
03:29 mtompset Always a good first program. :)
03:31 wajasu os i guess we would be checking out performance of mod_perl, and such. maybe add interceptors for security, etc.
03:32 mtompset Or asking, just in case someone has already evaluated that possibility. -- I haven't. :)
03:35 wajasu i see folks already are working Plack on the site. I was just wondering we could get some url mapping and security framework in place, as all the permissions checking could be tested, etc.
03:37 mtompset Oooo... you said the word "test". Careful, people might love you. ;)
03:45 mtompset Does anyone know if the locale of one's OS affects the pre-web install building/installing of Koha?
03:49 wajasu its possible if the perl interpreter falls back to some OS locale for encoding or such. but it may not be an issue if the installer has sufficient unicode/utf8 usage. not really sure.
03:49 mtompset Okay... I'll move that step earlier then. ;)
03:58 wajasu i'm going to paste my debian preseed script that i use to build VM from nothing. it has alot of install stuff in it, and might be helpfull.
04:07 mtompset Sure, it will help me make sure my instructions are generalized enough. :)
04:07 mtompset oleonard++ # thanks for the time and patience with bug 8339.

04:40 mib_0ralv0 hey guys
04:40 mib_0ralv0 i need some real help
04:40 mib_0ralv0 here
04:40 wajasu ask
04:41 mib_0ralv0 i mistakenly updated koha from the repos after i had initially installed from source
04:41 mib_0ralv0 then for some reasons my items show showing in search
04:42 cait morning :)
04:42 mib_0ralv0 panic, uninstall then installed from source
04:42 mib_0ralv0 morning cait
04:42 wajasu hey cait.
04:42 mib_0ralv0 but im still not seeing any items in the opac
04:43 mib_0ralv0 how can i get these back?
04:43 mtompset which OS, which source, what instructions did you follow?
04:44 mtompset wajasu: I was noticing your my.cnf tweaks. I saw someone else using something similar. Is that the recommended way?\
04:44 mib_0ralv0 on ubuntu 12.04
04:45 mib_0ralv0 i had my sources.list populated with the repos before
04:45 wajasu mtompset: i scoured those from multiple wiki and INSTALLS. that works well for me. i was debugging UTF8 label printing so i wanted to be sure. rangi might suggest the default for mysql is utf8 these days.
04:45 mib_0ralv0 i just did a aptitude install koha-common
04:46 mtompset no, what I'm saying is the [client] and [mysql] tweaks were not in the default instructions that I was following.
04:46 mib_0ralv0 i've since reverted but now i just need to figure how to get back my biblios
04:47 mtompset You probably need to re-setup your zebra indexing all over again.
04:47 wajasu mtompset: when those utf setting are correct for the mysql client, then when i select from the mysql command line, i see the utf8 chars correctly, otherwsie black diamonds. i needed it to debug NFC utf for overdue_notice.
04:47 mib_0ralv0 tried these but second command return some erors misc/maintenance/remove_items_from_biblioitems.pl --run misc/migration_tools/rebuild_zebra.pl -b -r
04:47 mtompset what version of koha are you running?
04:47 mib_0ralv0 latest
04:47 mtompset why did you run those commands?!
04:48 mtompset particularly the first one.
04:49 mtompset "Koha 3.4.x or later no longer stores items in biblio records. If you are upgrading from a version older than Koha 3.4.x, run the following two commands which can take a long time (several hours) to complete for large databases:"
04:49 mib_0ralv0 i started following the upgrade instructions
04:50 mtompset I just quoted from the upgrade instructions.
04:50 mtompset You said you are running the latest from source.
04:51 mib_0ralv0 i now have a table in my db called import records that seem a little large compare to the others
04:51 mtompset Sorry, as I am not familiar with the results of that script on newer systems, I can't help you.
04:52 mtompset And thank you.. that reminds me of another tweak that I need to make to the instructions.
04:52 mib_0ralv0 ok
04:53 wajasu is your db a test copy. you might restore the db from a backup and rerun the webinstaller, etc. just to be sure.
04:55 wajasu mtompset: one thing i did 3 years ago with the instructions, was try to run the tests. i also installed it on archlinux. it took hours. (not many perl modules available in those days)
04:55 mib_0ralv0 how can i force the web installer to run again?
04:56 mtompset <browser> http://127.0.1.1:8080/ (that's the default URL)
04:56 wajasu if you create a new db and load your database, it will create the tables etc.
04:56 mtompset wajasu: mib_0ralv0 already has his tables.
04:57 mtompset Sorry... I've got to get back to editing.
04:58 mib_0ralv0 could yall say which tables now stores the items?
04:58 rangi items
04:58 * rangi leaves to catch his bus
05:00 mib_0ralv0 which table has the logs *audit log kinda thingy
05:01 mib_0ralv0 just want to see the last record added/deleted and verify it in items
05:03 wajasu in mysql you can do: "show tables;" then "describe <tablename>" you could do "select count(*) from items;" look at the count and use that to select * from items where id=<count>"
05:03 bag the record number is incremental - so max(biblionumber) will show it to you
05:03 mtompset max(biblionumber) is a better method.
05:03 wajasu yup
05:04 mib_0ralv0 my item reporting over 3700 which i dig is round about correct
05:04 bag there you go :)
05:04 mib_0ralv0 but im not sure why they refuse to show up
05:04 mib_0ralv0 i've just restarted the server hopng it change something since it hadnt restart before
05:05 bag zebraserver?
05:05 mib_0ralv0 no the physical server
05:05 wajasu when you do rebuild-aebra use -v and you might get feedback to see total exported for the index. also be shure to have the KOHA_CONF and PERL5LIB correct when you run zebrasrv
05:05 bag sorry I meant is zebraserver running?
05:06 mib_0ralv0 yes i had made sure to start it
05:06 bag yup also what wajasu is saying :)
05:07 mib_0ralv0 im gonna try the rebuild again as soon as things get back up
05:07 mib_0ralv0 those servers take mighty long time to go through post and scsi crop
05:07 bag also ps -ef | grep zebra - so you definitely know zebra is running
05:11 mib_0ralv0 seem the restart fixed it
05:11 wajasu great!
05:12 mtompset and the rebuild_zebra needs to be run as 'koha', otherwise you run into permissions hell.
05:12 mib_0ralv0 thanks yall, is there anyway to see the full catalogue from the staff interface
05:12 mtompset (since you probably have a 'koha' user)
05:12 mib_0ralv0 i think i had done a crontab for that
05:13 wajasu mtompset: is there anything int he Install about those permissions for (/var/... etc) ?
05:14 mtompset Thanks for the suggestion. I'll look at that.
05:15 mtj so, when running koha from the packages… use koha-rebuild-zebra
05:15 mtj *dont* use rebuild_zebra.pl script
05:16 mtompset I'm running through the document right now trying to get a consistent order for all three methods of installation.
05:16 mib_0ralv0 in items im seeing duplications in `biblionumber' should this be?
05:16 mtompset mtj, mib_0ralv0 uninstalled the packages.
05:17 mib_0ralv0 itemnuber seem not to have duplicates though
05:18 cait biblionumber is ok in items - one record can have more than one item
05:19 mtompset mib_0ralv0: You really shouldn't be tinkering with the internals of MySQL for Koha if you aren't sure what you are doing.
05:22 mib_0ralv0 not making changes just verifying data
05:22 mtompset verify data through the user interface.
05:22 mib_0ralv0 last time we lost over 600 records
05:22 mtompset That's most likely a zebra indexing problem.
05:22 mib_0ralv0 the power kept going without notice
05:23 mtompset Okay... perhaps a DB corruption problem. :)
05:23 mib_0ralv0 we would search and it is listed but when selected we get 404 error
05:23 mib_0ralv0 yes i think it was db corruption
05:23 mib_0ralv0 so i'm just making sure that all is intact
05:24 mtompset installing and uninstalling packages over a source install will not affect your data.
05:24 mib_0ralv0 cant take no blame this time around ;)
05:25 mib_0ralv0 actually its another power failure that caused me to have to do upgrade...had startup issues so i fixed them and got started upgrading what i could during the down time
05:26 mib_0ralv0 only to findout that things broke when i was told no items were being shown
05:27 cait it's most likely an indexing problem
05:27 mib_0ralv0 they sorting out the power so hopefully wont be anymore such issues
05:27 mib_0ralv0 it sure was cait
05:28 mib_0ralv0 i recall sometime last year browsing the koha db and seeing a tble that list the changes sort of like an audit log
05:28 mib_0ralv0 not sure if it was the session table
05:31 mib_0ralv0 it listed what record was added/deleted and by which user, but the current session table doesnt have it listed that way neither can i find that table
05:32 mib_0ralv0 it even had the transaction date, can anyone point me to which table now has that log?
05:32 cait action_logs or statistics log
05:34 cait but I am not sure that will help you with your problem
05:35 * mtompset points at cait, "Expert," and grins.
05:36 mib_0ralv0 ok
05:37 fredericd morning
05:38 mtompset Bonjour, fredericd. :)
05:38 mib_0ralv0 ok thx cait
05:39 cait hi fredericd
05:42 Amit_Gupta heya cait
05:42 cait mib_0ralv0: I probably shouldn't ask this while eating breakfast, but what is the problem?
05:42 cait hi Amit_Gupta
05:42 mib_0ralv0 just saying thanks
05:43 mib_0ralv0 lol
05:43 mtompset cait, he installed packages "aptitude install koha-common" on top of a tarball install.
05:43 mib_0ralv0 actionlog was of help...got an idea of last addition
05:43 mtompset he then removed the packages, and was trying to make sure all the other configuration pieces are working still.
05:43 mib_0ralv0 and requested it from opac with results
05:44 cait oh
05:44 mtompset an installation mess for sure. :)
05:44 mib_0ralv0 yes it was
05:45 mib_0ralv0 need to put a huge dont do somewhere in instructions
05:46 mtompset Though, really... if you have the chance. I'd recommend converting from a tarball install to a packages install. It isn't too hard. Just you don't really want to do it on the same machine.
05:46 mtompset Then once that test environment is up and running, do it for production.
05:46 mib_0ralv0 btw love the new staff interface wish the opac could get a similar upgrade
05:47 mtompset given the ways the OPAC can be tweaked using the syspreferences, it doesn't need much of an upgrade.
05:47 mib_0ralv0 maybe an upgrade that works a bit like igoogle
05:48 mib_0ralv0 true mtompset but the default install for novice has lost some appeal...at least the shine not so much there
05:49 mib_0ralv0 im thinking something that we could drag an drop some basic stuffs and then lock that display for the users
05:49 mtompset Yes, but isn't that your job? ;)
05:50 mtompset (Making the OPAC shiny, keeping koha running, etc.)
05:51 mib_0ralv0 ;) hehe
05:51 cait there is a new mobile theme that will probably be in the next version
05:51 bag heya cait
05:52 cait morning bag
05:52 bag evening from yesterday to you :)
05:52 cait owen's blog?
05:52 wahanui owen's blog is http://www.myacpl.org/koha/
05:52 cait bag: oh, you live in the past?
05:52 bag yup I'm in the past present
05:53 mib_0ralv0 keeping it running yes but the shiny part not so much so...they were to have some team with web experience do wrk on it but its not working out it seem...once i heard someone saying the yahoo thingy too restrictive
05:53 mib_0ralv0 yes i used to view owen stuffs
05:55 bag heya cait I got an easy one for you to sign off - I think -bug 7143 (I helped melia write it today) would be great to get it signed-off so I can tell her in the morning :)
05:55 huginn 04Bug http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=7143 trivial, P5 - low, ---, katrin.fischer, Needs Signoff , Bug for tracking changes to the about page
05:55 cait bag: can't do it now -have to finish the online exam for my distance study course this morning
05:55 cait even going into work later
05:55 bag heh :)
05:56 bag well good luck - it's simple so maybe someone else will grab it before she shows to work :)
05:56 mib_0ralv0 study well cait hope you get some nice topic that you can ace
05:57 cait thx mib_0ralv0
05:57 cait bag: it will take around 90 mins, maybe can squeeze it in
05:57 bag no worries - do well on the exam
05:58 mib_0ralv0 owen has a nice setup but im just not able to find the time to delve into the code stuffs
06:01 cait mib_0ralv0: the presentation from eythian was nice too on the topic, showing off some pretty nice opacs
06:01 cait http://swop.bsz-bw.de/frontdoor.php?source_opus=1029&la=en
06:06 mtompset Hmmm.... does someone have a sample color stylesheet?
06:21 mib_0ralv0 now downlding will check it out
06:25 mib_0ralv0 is there anyway of migrating winisys to koha?
06:27 mtompset I've never heard of winisys, so I can't help.
06:29 mib_0ralv0 winisis
06:30 alex_a bonjour
06:30 mib_0ralv0 http://contribs.koha.org/revision_view.php?rid=10
06:30 mtompset Still never heard of it, sorry.
06:31 mtompset That's not our website.
06:31 mtompset That's LibLime's website.
06:31 mtompset www.koha-community.org is ours.
06:32 mib_0ralv0 sorry knew it was a evil paste
06:32 mib_0ralv0 lol
06:33 mtompset It's not evil. Just trying to make sure you understand there is a difference.
06:33 mib_0ralv0 but here i'll make amends
06:33 mib_0ralv0 1. Develop your bibliographic data in winisis by following a standrad data format (CCF or MARC 21). If u r following MARC 21, possibly ISISMARC (available freely) is a better option. 2. After data entry work, export the databse as iso file. You can do it through winisis also, even if u r using isismarc. Go to file menu, select export. the file will be saved
06:34 mtompset If you can export MARC 21 format files, you can stage imports into Koha.
06:34 mib_0ralv0 in work folder under c:\winisis. 3. Download MarcEdit, another free MARC editor availavle freely. 4. Open MARC tool, select CDS/ISIS conversion, Give file name. The iso file will be converted into MARC 21 format and will be saved as .mrc.
06:35 mbalmer dou want to read us the winisys manual here?
06:35 mib_0ralv0 5. Open Koha and import this file. It will go to biblio basket. 6. From the cataloguing interface, you can bring each record into ur MARC editor of Koha. 7. In case of bulk import, use the file under misc folder under koha
06:35 mtompset No thank you.
06:35 mib_0ralv0 no i just got those from a link
06:35 mib_0ralv0 postted just incase i have to search again for it
06:35 mib_0ralv0 it will be in the irc logs
06:35 mib_0ralv0 ;)
06:36 mbalmer good idea. I shall do the same with the local news from the local newspaper…..
06:36 mib_0ralv0 hehe
06:37 mtompset mbalmer++ # love the sarcastic wit.
06:40 mtompset Rather than flood the channel with cut and paste from a link, wouldn't it make more sense to just share the link? A lot less spammy.
06:42 rangi He/she did share the link
06:43 rangi Someone commented it's liblime site, ...
06:44 reiveune hello
06:44 rangi Picking on newbies may be fun, but it's not cool
06:44 mbalmer salut marseille!
06:50 mtompset The link doesn't directly go to that text.
06:51 mtompset Wasn't trying to pick on newbies.
06:51 mbalmer teaching trolls != picking on newbies
06:52 mtompset true enough, he admitted to knowing the difference between koha.org and koha-community.org.
06:53 mtompset But we should aim to be polite to everyone, even trolls (malicious or otherwise).
06:53 mbalmer we have been polite
06:54 mtompset How sarcastic wit is perceived is different to everyone. I know you didn't mean to be mean, but a third party may not have.
06:55 mtompset Anyways... back to edit'ing... I'm almost happy with my wall of text which will soon come tumbling down into well organized pieces.
06:55 mtompset (and hiding the tarball instructions in some distant corner)
07:03 mtompset Greetings, eythian.
07:03 eythian morning
07:05 bag heya eythian
07:05 wahanui eythian is in NZ. ;) or a good influence
07:06 eythian hi there
07:06 eythian wahanui: eythian is not in NZ right now
07:06 wahanui ...but eythian is in NZ. ;) or a good influence...
07:10 mtompset wahanui: eythian knows where eythian is. Listen to eythian.
07:10 wahanui wish i knew, mtompset
07:10 mtompset Silly bot.
07:12 mtompset eythian?
07:12 wahanui hmmm... eythian is in NZ. ;) or a good influence
07:13 mtompset no, wahanui.
07:13 bag mtj?
07:13 wahanui DeM KraZy NutZ!!
07:14 bag knows that!
07:16 mtompset eythian?
07:16 wahanui eythian is a good influence or located somewhere.
07:34 mtompset This is when I wish I had my dream computer, so I could test more things in parallel.
07:35 rangi hi UBPL
07:35 UBPL hi Rangi.
07:39 UBPL how can I give permission to cataloger for item's current location ? Cataloger would like to add items for other branch library ?
07:40 mtompset Out of curiousity, which version of koha are you using?
07:41 UBPL koha 3.8.2
07:41 mtompset (not directly related to your question)
07:41 rangi edit_items should do it
07:41 mtompset As long as they have a library set, correct?
07:42 rangi shouldnt need one
07:42 mtompset oh, for OTHER branch library.
07:42 rangi you pick the home location in the items screen
07:42 UBPL could not see other libraries from list for each section of current and permanent location ?
07:42 rangi do you have independent branches on?
07:42 UBPL yes OTHER branch library
07:43 rangi you will need to switch that off
07:43 UBPL how ?
07:43 rangi in systempreferences
07:43 UBPL next
07:44 UBPL what is next ?
07:44 rangi admin
07:44 rangi then switch IndependantBranches
07:44 rangi to don't prevent
07:44 rangi if you still want branches to work independently but allow the user to edit
07:45 rangi you can make that user a superlibrarian instead
07:45 rangi so 2 ways of doing it, depending on what you want
07:45 UBPL thanks. i trying to find it
07:45 rangi where are you from?
07:46 rangi Something Something Public Library ?
07:46 UBPL Ulaanbaatar Public Library, Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
07:46 UBPL do you remember, my former name is Cybermon for here.
07:46 cait wb :)
07:47 rangi ah now i remember :)
07:47 rangi good to have you back
07:47 rangi i still want to visit your library one day
07:57 mtompset Hmmm... quick question... does a git installation require "sudo make install"? or will a "make install" suffice?
07:58 rangi make install will suffice
07:58 rangi as long as you chose a path you have rights to
07:58 mtompset which the default is ~/koha-dev.
07:58 rangi yep
07:59 UBPL1 hi again
07:59 UBPL1 sorry my browser was down.
07:59 UBPL1 it works by administration section
08:01 rangi yep, you could also try turning that back to prevent, and make the user a superlibrarian and see if that works too
08:06 UBPL1 i tried to give superlibrarian for cataloger. but it was not worked. that is why I used Administation section.
08:06 UBPL1 May I missing for superlibrarian - permission
08:06 mtompset If there are multiple people with edit-item permissions, wouldn't it make more sense to do the super librarian method, so as to prevent multiple people from potentially affecting multiple locations?
08:07 rangi mtompset: only if it worked, and it sounds like it didnt
08:08 * mtompset nods, "I can accept that. :)"
08:10 UBPL1 can i make one person to make multiple loations for items
08:10 rangi yes, if you have turned independentbranches off, anyone with edit_items permissions can do that
08:12 UBPL1 i see
08:12 UBPL1 independentbranches on, can anyone with edit_items permissions ?
08:13 mtompset No.
08:13 mtompset They get locked into their branch.
08:13 UBPL1 independentbranches on, only superlibrarian can be to edit_items permission ?
08:14 rangi yes
08:14 UBPL1 i see. I will try it later
08:14 mtompset That's why rangi said there were two ways of doing it.
08:15 UBPL1 thanks MTOMPSET.
08:15 mtompset That's why I asked about limiting who can edit items to just the new person.
08:15 mtompset You're most welcome.
08:18 bag alright night night :)
08:18 eythian http://lesswrong.com/lw/c1/wellkept_gardens_die_by_pacifism/ <-- interesting read
08:19 UBPL1 what is command multi opac interface for koha ?
08:21 mtompset night, night, bag. ;)
08:21 UBPL1 thanks again. it works. i used help from wiki-koha
08:23 UBPL1 hey guys. one more question. please...
08:25 mtompset eythian: Yes, interesting read.
08:26 UBPL1 i have two language for OPAC and STAFF interface. ( Looks like: Language : English : mon )
08:27 UBPL1 How can i change mon to mongolian word ?
08:31 mtompset Sounds like a po file question, which I can't answer. :(
08:31 rangi its actually the languages table in the db
08:32 UBPL1 i think it will be change
08:35 mtompset I'm looking at 3.6.3, so the tables might be different. Do you mean language_descriptions?
08:35 rangi yep
08:37 mtompset So lang='en' means I have English selected and subtag='en' means I'm displaying English as the language, right?
08:38 mtompset Which explains lang='fr' and subtab='en' has a description of Anglais. It's French for English.
08:43 mtompset rangi: I was wondering about the my.cnf modifications that you and someone else were discussing the other day. They had "default-character-set=utf8" in the client and mysql sections. Does that force the clients to behave as utf-8?
08:44 rangi not me, i dont have any of those
08:48 mtompset oh? could you tell me then if http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Koha_on_Ubuntu#MySQL is way off then?
08:49 eythian mtompset: it is missing the innodb
08:49 eythian err
08:49 eythian innodb thing
08:49 rangi file per table
08:50 eythian innodb_file_per_table
08:50 eythian yeah that
08:50 wahanui yeah that is fine as it is
08:50 UBPL1 any help for my question.
08:50 mtompset okay... What innodb thing?
08:51 eythian http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Koha_Tuning_Guide
08:51 mtompset UBPL, UBPL1: if you can browse language_descriptions you can change the description from 'Mon' to the Mongolian.
08:51 eythian (though, I hate it when people just dump a config in with no explanation)
08:52 mtompset That's why I link to manuals in that section.
08:54 mtompset My commentary about, UBPL, UBPL1, was intended as an indirect answer and explanation. Sorry for being unclear.
08:55 mtompset Oops.. commentary above.
08:55 mtompset Package installs do the inno db stuff, right?
09:02 mtompset what is the advantage of innodb_file_per_table?
09:04 UBPL1 yes 'Mon' to the Mongolian.
09:04 eythian mtompset: no they don't
09:05 eythian mtompset: if you don't have that, your database will never get smaller on disk
09:05 mtompset Oh.
09:05 mtompset So if I grow the DB to 1TB, and then delete all records.
09:06 mtompset It will still be 1TB?
09:08 mtompset UBPL1, I don't have Mongolian installed, so I don't know the lang and subtag values it is.
09:08 mtompset Otherwise, I would tell you the MySQL UPDATE statement expressly.
09:10 UBPL1 please...
09:10 UBPL1 you can see web from http://koha.pl.ub.gov.mn
09:10 UBPL1 if you write help, i will try it
09:13 mtompset Do you know how to start MySQL?
09:13 mtompset mysql -u <user> -p
09:14 mtompset Did you install from packages?
09:14 UBPL1 okay
09:14 mtompset Sorry... I can't... There's too much room for messing up.
09:16 mtompset It's the end of my day, and I'm exhausted.
09:17 UBPL1 okay, can you send guide via email to me.
09:17 mtompset No, sorry.
09:17 rajes hi! I'm still in the learning curve. Kindly please assist me.
09:18 UBPL1 no problem
09:18 UBPL1 thanks.
09:20 rajes the system shows ( Software error: Tag "0" is not a valid tag. at/backup/vhost/homelibrary/lib/C4/Biblio.pm line 2265 ) pls guide how to solve this. tq
09:26 rajes hi there anyone can assist
10:13 mtompset_away Anyone familiar with the use of rebuild_zebra_sliced?
11:18 jcamins_away @later tell kf Could you please rebase 8523 against master? Your squashed patch won't apply for me.
11:18 huginn jcamins_away: The operation succeeded.
11:29 jcamins_away @later tell kf Never mind. Spoke too soon. I was in the wrong repo.
11:29 huginn jcamins_away: The operation succeeded.
11:39 jcamins paul_p: I just noticed a typo in the update for 3.09.00.031. It has extra quote marks. Do you want a patch?
11:39 paul_p hi #koha
11:39 jcamins Also, good morning. :)
11:39 * paul_p investigating bug 8089 ...
11:39 huginn        04Bug http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=8089 enhancement, P5 - low, ---, gmcharlt, Signed Off , Use Koha::Cache everywhere
11:40 paul_p (morning ended here ;-) )
11:40 jcamins Yeah, the error you got doesn't relate to that patch.
11:40 paul_p jcamins = could you try to modify a patron (withou bug 8089 applied). Does it work for you ?
11:40 paul_p joubu just tested, and he has the problem
11:40 paul_p I have it
11:40 paul_p probably a new BLO :-\
11:40 jcamins No, of course it doesn't work. That's what the patch is for.
11:40 jcamins There is a signed off patch which fixes this problem.
11:40 paul_p jcamins = which patch ?
11:41 jcamins The follow-up on bug 8089.
11:41 kf hi #koha
11:41 kf jcamins: so all ok now?
11:41 jcamins kf: yes.
11:42 paul_p jcamins = well, i've applied the patch/follow-up, and it still does not work for me
11:42 jcamins paul_p: hm. With the follow-up it works for me.
11:42 jcamins You could simply revert 8089. It's not a terribly important patch, and dpavlin is planning to do a much more comprehensive job of it.

11:47 jcamins What specifically are you trying to edit in the borrower?
11:48 jcamins Maybe that makes a difference.
11:48 jcamins I changed name and phone number.

11:51 jcamins paul_p: wait, did you restart memcached?

11:54 * mtompset smirks, "Wrong repo."
11:55 mtompset Wow... that's a killer query!
11:56 mtompset greetings, kf jcamins paul_p
11:56 jcamins mtompset: yeah, SQLHelper does things like that.
11:59 * kf waves
11:59 kf on phone :)
12:06 mtompset Okay, I've been hacking on these install instructions all day... almost there.
12:07 mtompset This Upgrade Instruction section bugs me...
12:07 mtompset It suggests running the misc/maintenance... and misc/migration_tools from the build directory.
12:08 mtompset Which means the person is not the user doing the normal zebra indexing.
12:08 mtompset Is this better? su -c "misc/migration_tools/rebuild_zebra.pl -b -a -r -v" koha
12:09 jcamins mtompset: the other scripts don't have to be run by the same user.
12:10 mtompset But rebuild_zebra should be run as koha, right?
12:11 jcamins Right.
12:11 mtompset You're right... I was being overly cautious.
12:12 mtompset Upgrade instructions don't make sense in terms of a git/dev install, right?
12:13 mtompset It's just a sudo apt-get update;sudo apt-get upgrade
12:14 mtompset Oops... I mean packages.
12:14 mtompset And a git/dev install is just a git pull away from upgrading.
12:15 jcamins mtompset: no, that is not correct.
12:15 jcamins You have to rerun the Makefile and make install.
12:15 mtompset for the git?
12:16 mtompset Only if you answered standard off a git.
12:18 mtompset for a tarball, yes.
12:18 huginn        New commit(s) kohagit: Merge remote-tracking branch 'origin/new/bug_8089' <http://git.koha-community.org/gitweb/?p=koha.git;a=commitdiff;h=da262047be427fc0c15f16ca602c3c9d7f8bee47> / Revert "Bug 8089: Use Koha::Cache for all caching" <http://git.koha-community.org/gitweb/?p=koha.git;a=commitdiff;h=8449b14dcb66c7f4e76794daee21342a28ad9598> / Revert "Bug 8089: Cache sysprefs using Koha::Cache" <http://git.koha-community.org/gitweb/?p=koha.git;a=com
12:19 jcamins mtompset: no, always.
12:19 mtompset Even for packages?
12:19 mtompset How?
12:20 jcamins Not for packages.
12:20 jcamins For git.
12:20 jcamins You always have to run Makefile.PL, make, and make install for git.
12:20 mtompset Why?
12:20 jcamins (there are actually exceptions to that rule, but we're not going into them)
12:20 jcamins To update your Zebra configuration.
12:21 mtompset That makes sense.
12:22 mtompset because the koha-dev directory is outside the git repo.
12:22 mtompset and a git pull is not sufficient to update it with changes in those files.

13:12 oleonard khall around?
13:18 oleonard Is there anyone around who can help explain how "fine in days" works in practice?
13:19 oleonard If I have overdues which should trigger a fine in days, the nightly overdues process finds them and sets my borrowers.debarred to a date?
13:30 oleonard Ah, no. The suspension is added when the item is returned.

13:32 oleonard So when is the suspension lifted? Or does the expired date stay in borrowers.debarred but is ignored?
13:35 oleonard I guess it stays? CheckBorrowerDebarred queries for debarred > NOW()
13:38 oleonard Hah, and SIP thinks you're debarred even if your debarred date < NOW().
13:39 oleonard I guess (users of Fine in Days) does not intersect with (users of SIP)

16:14 maximep you have to
16:14 jcamins Did I know about colors.css?
16:15 jcamins Oh.
16:15 jcamins Yes.
16:15 jcamins I did.
16:15 maximep a bit weird that I did it this way, but I didn't know better at that time hehe
16:15 jcamins Somewhere at the beginning of the bug is a grouchy comment from me that it looked hideous and could you please send the patch with your changes. ;)
16:15 paul_p maximep = works much better. although I feel it should be documented & maybe improved.
16:15 paul_p (and there is some glitches for me)
16:15 jcamins paul_p: agreed. I said that in my slightly-less-grouchy response, I think.
16:16 paul_p jcamins = I read all the comments, should have missed that

16:16 jcamins paul_p: perhaps it was just on IRC.
16:16 maximep well now that it's a different theme, it should be alright to move everything in opac.css
16:16 paul_p (there's a patch for that, but not accepted by bugzilla community :(((( =
16:17 maximep or even ccsr.css and ass it directly at the same place as we added mobile

16:17 jcamins paul_p: you can change the title.
16:19 paul_p jcamins & maximep = it's related to Quote Of The day
16:19 paul_p OK, time to go back home for me, I promized my wife to come back early, and it's already 6:20 PM here
16:19 paul_p see you tomorrow
16:19 oleonard Bye paul_p
16:20 maximep cya
16:20 jcamins paul_p: perhaps add a note that QotD doesn't look so good with the new theme, and make maximep provide a follow-up? ;)
16:20 maximep I didn't know there was a qotd feature :S
16:20 jcamins Yup.
16:20 jcamins It's very cool.
16:20 paul_p jcamins yes, it probably require a tiny follow-up to hide QOTD
16:20 jcamins paul_p: or to change the display.
16:21 * jcamins has custom CSS for the QotD to make it more unobtrusive, and it worked fine.
16:21 jcamins But rebasing that one has been a great challenge, and it's usable as it is now, if you disable the quotes.

17:00 Oliver_Spain hi
17:01 Oliver_Spain i need help with koha configurate for library consortium
17:01 Oliver_Spain someone know any documentation about?
17:02 Oliver_Spain excuse me for my english xDD
17:02 wahanui Oliver_Spain: Sales staff sold a product we don't offer.
17:02 jcamins Oliver_Spain: wahanui is a bot. I have no idea where that response came from.
17:02 jcamins manual?
17:02 wahanui manual is at http://www.koha-community.org/documentation
17:02 Oliver_Spain ok thanks
17:02 jcamins ^^ that's the manual, which is a good first step
17:03 Oliver_Spain yes i have the manual
17:03 Oliver_Spain and i read it
17:03 Oliver_Spain configure my koha like independet branches
17:04 Oliver_Spain but i have problems because i want that each staff patron only can edit the bibliographic records of his own libraries
17:04 Oliver_Spain and i don't know how do it
17:04 jcamins I don't know anything about IndependentBranches, sorry. Someone else might, though.
17:05 Oliver_Spain thanks
17:05 oleonard Oliver_Spain: It should be the case that each staff member can only edit *items* from their branch, but bibliographic records are not tied to a specific branch
17:05 oleonard ...as far as I know
17:05 kf Oliver_Spain: you can't to id for bibliographic records, only for items
17:05 kf do it...
17:05 jcamins oleonard: oh, you're right. I missed that detail.
17:05 * jcamins was thinking "items."
17:05 kf what oleonard phrased much better :)
17:06 Oliver_Spain ok
17:07 Oliver_Spain the problem is that staff patron (with permiss to do it) can edit bibliogrpahic records catalog in other library
17:07 Oliver_Spain :S
17:08 jcamins Oliver_Spain: yes, that's the way it's supposed to work. If you want catalogs completely separate, you should set up a separate catalog for each library.
17:08 jcamins Packages make that easy.
17:08 jcamins Packages?
17:08 wahanui Packages is probably at http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Debian
17:08 Oliver_Spain humm...
17:10 Oliver_Spain and its posible define that one librarian can edit items of group of libraries (and only for this group)?
17:10 jcamins No.
17:11 jcamins You can't have it both ways.
17:11 Oliver_Spain it's complicate configure koha to consortium
17:11 Oliver_Spain with diferent levels
17:11 Oliver_Spain :(
17:12 jcamins Oliver_Spain: it can be, yes.
17:12 Oliver_Spain ok thanks a lot
17:13 jcamins Oliver_Spain: wait, you said items that last time.
17:13 jcamins Oliver_Spain: sorry, I got confused.
17:13 Oliver_Spain yes items for a group
17:13 Oliver_Spain only for his own group
17:13 jcamins I was still thinking about bibliographic records.
17:14 jcamins I think usually what people do is give one librarian multiple users, one for each library they manage.
17:14 Oliver_Spain humm
17:14 Oliver_Spain i don't like xD
17:15 jcamins That's if they insist on using IndependentBranches.
17:15 Oliver_Spain yes
17:15 Oliver_Spain i have a lot of libraries
17:16 Oliver_Spain i can't let it edit (or add) items from other libraries
17:16 jcamins wizzyrea: do you use IndependentBranches?
17:16 Oliver_Spain i need independent branchs
17:16 jcamins (wizzyrea works for a consortium too)
17:16 Oliver_Spain thanks
17:18 Oliver_Spain another question it's posible give permission to capturate from z39.50 but not edit bibliographic records?
17:20 jcamins Oliver_Spain: no. There's no separate permission for adding (as opposed to editing) bib records.
17:21 Oliver_Spain ok thanks a lot of jcamins ;)

17:55 oleonard Hm, the transport_cost table was created fine on my test machine
17:58 bag mine too
17:58 bag I think that was a jenkins error?
18:02 rangi no
18:02 rangi if it can happen once, it can happen again
18:03 bag :) at least you didn't NO me
18:03 bag heh
18:05 * oleonard wonders about this line added in updatedatabase.pl: "CHECK ( `frombranch` <> `tobranch` ), -- a dud check, mysql does not support that"
18:05 rangi its not that
18:05 rangi its the foreign key constraints
18:05 oleonard What does that mean?
18:05 rangi if i take them out, it can create the table
18:08 jcamins rangi: oh, I thought the problem was a missing syspref.
18:08 rangi what mysql version are you running?
18:11 oleonard I've got 5.5.24-0ubuntu0.12.04.1
18:11 rangi jenkins is running 5.1
18:11 rangi i wonder if thats the difference
18:12 rangi bbiab
18:47 oleonard I really need to leave myself better notes. Why did I stop working on this branch? Ran out of time? Got bored? Insurmountable problem I can't recall?
18:48 cait which branch is it? :)

18:49 cait probably we couldn't agree on it
18:50 cait hm although... it doesn't look so bad
18:50 oleonard I don't think we discussed it. I probably worked on it until my brain hurt and then quit.
18:50 cait maybe you wanted to introduce accordeon there too? :)
18:50 cait that's also an option :)
18:50 oleonard :)
18:50 oleonard Anyway, I guess I shouldn't start testing it again when I have to leave in 15 min.
18:50 cait hm yeah, sounds not reasonable :)

19:55 jcamins gib56: if you have a question about Koha, you should probably ask generally.
19:55 gib56 well, actually i just need some help
19:56 jcamins (i.e. not directed to a specific person)
19:56 gib56 a librarian is trying to create a label batch
19:56 gib56 in Manage Staged MARC records
19:57 gib56 and it gives this error
19:57 gib56 Error attempting to create label batch. Please ask your system administrator to check the log for more details.
19:58 jcamins gib56: I don't use labels, but it sounds like you should check your log.
19:59 jcamins That might give us something to go on.
20:00 gib56 I am very new to Koha
20:00 gib56 so, I am assuming I am going to Var > Log
20:01 jcamins Probably /var/log/koha, but it depends how Koha was installed.
20:03 gib56 thank you
20:11 gib56 hello
20:11 wahanui hi, gib56
20:12 gib56 is anybody having issues with creating label batches?
20:13 dcook Allo #koha
20:13 gib56 that's under Tools > Manage staged MARC records
20:14 jcamins gib56: did you find out what the logs said?
20:14 jcamins Also, you know that label batches are handled by a separate label tool, right?
20:14 gib56 i did go to logs
20:14 gib56 and to be honest, I have no idea what to look for
20:15 jcamins Errors.
20:15 jcamins You'll recognize one if you see it.
20:16 dcook Can someone checkout the current master branch in their git? When I take a look at my opac-tmpl folder, I see "lib" next to "prog", when I look in this "lib" directory...it's the yui lib which should be in the "en" directory
20:16 gib56 i see a fail2ban.log.2.gz
20:16 jcamins dcook: yui has been moved.
20:16 gib56 but that was from sept 2
20:16 jcamins gib56: that's not your Koha log.
20:16 jcamins You could also check in ~/koha-dev/var/log
20:16 cait dcook: it's all ok - it's a feature not a bug :)
20:16 rangi or /var/log/apache2/
20:17 gib56 yep, am in koha-dev right now
20:17 dcook Thanks, jcamins and cait. I just realized that I was checking against the koha38 branch on the community website *facepalm*
20:17 dcook Actually...no I'm not..
20:18 dcook Or..
20:18 cait dcook: it's a very recent change
20:18 rangi dcook its supposed to be there
20:18 rangi not in en
20:18 dcook I believe you :)

20:18 rangi or even theme dependent
20:19 dcook For some reason when I look at the git website now, it agrees with you guys. I'm starting to doubt my brainmeats
20:19 gib56 q
20:19 dcook It's good logic. That's what I figured when I first saw that it was moved :p

20:21 gib56 under var > log
20:21 gib56 i did see koha-error_log
20:21 gib56 and koha-opac-error_log
20:22 jcamins Look in koha-error_log
20:22 gib56 it's very big

20:23 jcamins You can just use tail.
20:23 jcamins Also, that's a problem.
20:23 jcamins It indicates there's something wrong.
20:24 rangi jcamins: most likely is not logrotated
20:24 jcamins rangi: oh, because it's in ~. Of course.
20:25 rangi yep
20:25 jcamins Well, that on its own is a problem.
