03:42 mtompset Greetings, #koha.
03:49 wajasu yo
03:59 mtompset Greetings, wajasu.
05:03 wajasu ok got bug 8447 signed sealed and ...
05:03 huginn 04Bug http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=8447 critical, P1 - high, ---, gmcharlt, Signed Off , can't save new records / indicator error
05:11 wajasu @later tell jcamins 8447 worked, and signed off. its got the original fields, plus the line field(9) and the extra ones. i attached a PNG, nice work.
05:11 huginn wajasu: The operation succeeded.
05:40 wajasu @later tell rangi - 8447 got fixed with jacamins and i suspect 8552 to be a dupe, so I'll leave it to you to decide.
05:40 huginn wajasu: The operation succeeded.
05:41 mtompset HA! As I suspected. None of the INSTALL.{OS} files mention koha-common!
05:42 wajasu i know. i thought it was just for testers.
05:42 wajasu but i've seeen folks encourage its use beyond testing.
05:48 cait good morning #koha
05:48 wajasu hi
05:50 wajasu cait: i had just signed off bug 8447 and i suspect that bug 8552 is a dupe. maybe you can confirm my suspicion.
05:50 cait hi wajasu
05:50 huginn 04Bug http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=8447 critical, P1 - high, ---, gmcharlt, Signed Off , can't save new records / indicator error
05:50 huginn 04Bug http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=8552 critical, P1 - high, ---, gmcharlt, NEW , BiblioAddsAuthorities set to Allow causes Software Error on Z3950 import
05:50 cait hm I am not sure wajasu
05:50 cait I haven't looked into them
05:50 wajasu ok.
05:50 cait and it seems one is for bibligraphic and one is for authorities?
05:50 cait the code might be similar for both
05:51 cait ah no
05:51 cait sorry
05:51 cait both for bibliogrpahic
05:51 mtompset Greetings, cait.
05:52 cait wajasu: I just got up
05:52 wajasu jacamins an i fixed the Default Linker which messed up the biblio for subject headings (use case i had was 630). i think 100 and others had the same behavior in 8552, since they were using AutoAddauthorities too.
05:53 cait hm
05:53 cait I think melia noted it as duplicate too in comment 11
05:53 cait I would mark the bug report that has no patches as the duplicate maybe
05:55 wajasu ok. added comments and leaving for others. I'm done for today.
05:56 cait sorry for being confusing - I need some time in the mornings :)
06:00 mtompset Don't we all, cait?
06:15 bag wajasu: I really think that is a dup
06:18 mtompset Well edit'ing and testing of INSTALL/Wiki instruction to resume later.
06:19 mtompset Bye.
08:44 mtompset Greetings, #koha. 2.5 hours outside without a fan is not my idea of fun. Oh well.

08:45 mtompset Rehydrating now.
08:45 mtompset Back to documentation.
08:46 cait back to it law...
08:47 mtompset Bah. It's call covered in Exodus 20. ;) No need for any other laws. Do we really need more than the 10 commandments? ;)
08:47 cait I tihnk so
08:47 mtompset Sadly, you're right. :(
08:48 cait but I agree the 10 commandments are not a bad start
08:48 mtompset Considering that the intent of them is so easily broken, sometimes I wonder if we'll ever master the basics.
09:19 rangi finally tracked down the problem
09:19 cait which problem?
09:19 cait evening rangi
09:19 rangi the 8 failing tests
09:19 rangi and its a real one too
09:19 rangi you cant modify anyhing with it
09:19 rangi bug 8089
09:19 cait with?
09:19 wahanui with is what I think I meant
09:19 huginn       04Bug http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=8089 enhancement, P5 - low, ---, gmcharlt, Pushed to Master , Use Koha::Cache everywhere
09:20 cait hm?
09:20 rangi so you cant modify borrowers
09:20 cait can you explain?
09:20 cait oh wow
09:20 cait that's a big big bug
09:20 rangi or anything
09:20 wahanui anything is possible with enough development work :)
09:20 rangi in master
09:20 rangi since that was pushed
09:20 rangi http://jenkins.koha-community.org/job/Koha_master/lastCompletedBuild/testReport/
09:20 cait how did it happen? the caching effecting the editing?
09:20 rangi tests prove how useful they are
09:20 rangi no
09:21 rangi the cache bit is fine
09:21 rangi its a bit jared changed to make it cache that is wrong
09:21 cait ah, so something else is in the patch?
09:21 cait oh
09:21 rangi im not sure how it ever got pushed
09:21 cait jared will be devastated
09:21 rangi tests must just simply not have been run
09:21 cait or the usual... the tests must be wrong
09:22 rangi nope the tests are very very very rarely wrong
09:22 cait don't tell me :)
09:23 rangi        +            $result = $cache->get_from_cache("sqlhelper:GetPrimaryKeys:$tablename");
09:24 rangi that is ok
09:24 rangi this
09:24 rangi        $result = grep { $hash_columns->{$_}->{'Key'} =~/PRI/i}  keys %$hash_columns;
09:24 rangi is not
09:24 rangi that should be @result
09:25 rangi        return  grep { $hash_columns->{$_}->{'Key'} =~/PRI/i}  keys %$hash_columns;
09:25 rangi that was the original line
09:25 rangi returns an array
09:25 rangi but now its a scalar
09:25 rangi ill attach a patch
09:26 jenkins_koha Starting build #164 for job Koha_3.8.x (previous build: SUCCESS)
09:26 cait         rangi++
09:27 rangi i missed it in my first test
09:27 rangi since i only tested an add
09:27 cait happens often
09:28 rangi yep, but i must have not run the tests, or this would have happened, and neither did kyle, or marcel, or paul
09:28 rangi that has to stop
09:30 cait yeah
09:30 cait that is the really worrysome bit about it :(
09:30 cait when qa doesn#t test
09:30 cait they at least should run the tests
09:30 rangi but at least jenkins caught it
09:31 rangi so our backstop caught it
09:31 cait yeah
09:31 cait but jenkins sould be a happy bot that never gets bothered
09:31 rangi yep
09:33 rangi @later tell paul_p bug 8089 breaks most of Koha (cant modify anything that uses SQLHelper) there is a patch attached that fixes it
09:33 huginn rangi: The operation succeeded.
09:37 rangi http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/attachment.cgi?id=12077
09:37 rangi simple fix for a massive error
09:38 cait some things have big consequences
09:38 rangi changing an array to a scalar by accident sure can
09:53 rangi hmm bug 8408 is not going in 3.8.x
09:53 huginn 04Bug http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=8408 minor, P5 - low, ---, kyle, Pushed to Master , Odd OPAC message when OPAC Renewals are disabled and OPACFineNoRenewals is set to blank

10:23 mtompset kia ora, rangi

10:31 mtompset Why didn't they just make the message something like "You have outstanding fines, contact a librarian."?
10:31 rangi that again is not right
10:31 rangi the reason they are blocked from renewals is not they have outstanding fines
10:31 rangi its that the have outstanding charges, over a certain threshold
10:32 rangi which can be set in system preferences, so changing it to jsut say you have outstanding is a change in behaviour, it used to say you owed more than the threshold
10:33 mtompset Ah.
10:33 mtompset But if that was the message for the $0.00 case, wouldn't that be okay?
10:33 rangi yep
10:34 mtompset It's like patching a plural with (s), because you are too lazy to check the 0/1/>1 cases. ;)
10:34 rangi :)
10:36 mtompset Oh... I was thinking about documentation.
10:37 rangi !jenkins build Koha_3.8.x now

10:37 mtompset Because obviously it is important. :)
10:37 mtompset The INSTALL.{OS} file is only going to be read in the case of a tarball or git install, right?
10:38 mtompset If it is a package install, they won't have that file.
10:38 rangi yep, but it should start with, are you sure you should be doing this, just install the packages
10:38 rangi thats right cos you dont need it
10:38 * rangi goes to bed
10:38 mtompset I'm working on trying to synchronize the Wiki and INSTALL.{OS} with that in mind.
11:39 jenkins_koha Yippie, build fixed!
11:39 jenkins_koha Project Koha_3.8.x build #165: FIXED in 1 hr 2 min: http://jenkins.koha-community.org/job/Koha_3.8.x/165/
12:51 mtj mtompset, you also get bonus points for moving the web-install steps, into a new general doc
12:52 mtompset I'm 25% of the way through a restructure of the INSTALL.OS and Wiki pages.
12:52 mtj after all, the web-install steps are identical for all Koha install methods, on every OS
12:53 mtompset Quite tur.
12:53 mtompset true.
12:53 mtompset I've gotten several: You should be using packages.
12:53 mtompset into the docs now.
12:54 mtompset Because I want point 2.7.2 to be the same point in the Wiki and INSTALL.OS file.
12:54 mtj yep, now you're getting the hang of it... :)
12:54 mtompset I will however, provide a mapping between the "standard" "site" and "dev" installs.
12:55 mtompset something that is currently lacking.
12:56 mtompset And frankly, I am annoyed by the Appendix A answers for the install process.
12:56 mtompset They should be in the same section!
12:57 mtompset "If you are still persisting to do a tarball install, this file is the only support you are likely to get in the future: "
12:58 mtj sorry, i dont know want yr refering to
12:59 mtj the install process, or a doc describing the install process
13:01 mtj so, whats your restructure plan?
13:02 mtj i have a restructure plan for the install docs too :)
13:03 mtj …so we might be duplicating a whole lot of work, between us
13:11 mtompset There might be some tweaks to be made in reordering on http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Koha_on_Ubuntu
13:12 mtompset But actually, if you have an order in mind, I wouldn't mind hearing it, so we can co-ordinate that.
13:12 mtompset I personally like my subtle hint "aptitude search koha-common"
13:13 mtompset while checking to see if aptitude is installed. ;)
13:15 mtj its all pretty simple obvious advice really....
13:15 mtj 1/ remove references to obselete versions of stuff
13:17 mtj 2/ put the the install steps that are generally relevant, in a single document
13:17 mtj (and, remove duplicated info too)
13:19 mtj 3/ keep the documentation concise and correct and simple
13:20 mtj 4/ keep the language simple, so its easy to machine-translate - and for non-english people to understand
13:21 mtj 5/ dont add unnecessary information
13:21 mtj 6/ dont add incorrect information
13:22 mtj .
13:22 mtj thats prolly about it… :)
13:23 mtj 7/ keep the documentation unders source-control, appoint a doc-manager/QA-team...
13:24 mtj the last ones v. important
13:24 mtompset 7) hasn't happened yet.
13:24 mtj 8/ remove all the old, incorrect, outdated install pages from the wiki
13:24 mtompset But I agree.
13:25 mtompset I'll get around to that too.
13:25 mtompset I'm at 30% now. Need to keep going.
13:27 mtj 9/ and probably autobuild some wikipages from the install docs, after a commit happens
13:29 mtj so, there might be install pages on the wiki, (but they will be compiled and read-only)
13:29 mtj thats the best way forward, as i see it...
13:31 mtj ok, off to bed now… :)
13:39 mtompset "If you are still persisting to do a tarball install, this file is the only support you are likely to get in the future" -- Is that too harsh?
13:40 mtj yeah, too harsh :p
13:40 mtompset But come on... packages have been around since 3.4
13:41 mtompset actually earlier, but 3.4 in production.
13:43 mtj specifc to an ubuntu install, then yeah… tarball is a no-no
13:44 mtj sorry, i thought you meant, in general...
13:45 mtj ok, now *really* off to bed :) ciao
15:09 mtompset It's gotten rather quiet now.
15:12 * wajasu door creaking
15:19 mtompset wajasu: You're awake?
15:19 mtompset What timezone are you in?
15:19 wajasu i'm in Texas, it 10:15 am
15:20 wajasu where are you? Philipines?
15:20 mtompset I have a friend who is marrying a girl from Texas. -- Yes, I'm in the Philippines 11:17PM
15:20 mtompset But I'm not crazy enough to expect you to know everyone in Texas. ;)
15:20 wajasu i was there August 2011, in Batangas province
15:21 mtompset That's sort of close to where I am.
15:21 mtompset But I'm in Laguna.
15:22 mtompset Magsalita sa Tagalog po ba kayo? ;)
15:22 mtompset (That's ugly tagalog for do you speak in Tagalog)
15:23 wajasu i tried once, but it doesn't work well over irc.
15:25 wajasu most everyone know english. i went to the rock, and that vocano for fun. i learned a lot about your history. You have alot of people living in those islands.
15:27 mtompset I'm Canadian, but being called a Filipino is okay. They are so hospitable. :)
15:28 mtompset My wife is Filipino though. :)
15:28 mtompset did you learn the parts of history that overlapped with US history?
15:28 wajasu yes.
15:29 mtompset the part about how freedom from Spain because of a fight over Cuba?
15:30 wajasu yes. the world is always fighting. it seems the Philipines has been in the middle of many wars and paid dearly.
15:31 mtompset Yes, too much fighting and cross-fire, but the Filipino people are resilient because of it. :)
15:32 mtompset Also helped that McArthur kept his promise to return. :)
15:33 wajasu yes. that whole perspective McArthur was ausome.
15:34 mtompset *whew* ... Editing documentation is such a slow process!
15:35 mtompset I'm almost 55% of the way done.
15:35 wajasu koha needs to get more user/dev/freindly. its sorely needed.
15:35 mtompset It's like I've got a novel in the INSTALL file.
15:36 mtompset Right now, I'm trying to clean up the documentation for Ubuntu.
15:36 mtompset I just finished editing through all the preliminary set up steps.
15:37 mtompset http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Koha_on_Ubuntu
15:37 mtompset I'm at section 3 now.
15:38 mtompset the manual build part.
15:44 wajasu i deployed my koha 3 years ago on archlinux. i think koha needs to package its dependencies in a perl local:lib in the future, because the distributions upgrade perl, but the koha code is not ready.
15:44 mtompset perl local:lib?
15:46 wajasu there is an external perl build/packaging tool called carton, which if we used it, we could gather all the parl dependencies, and make a perl lib directory separate from the host distributions version.
15:47 wajasu for external deps.
15:48 wajasu and maybe we could use perlbrew.
15:50 mtompset But since archlinux (from what I have briefly read in the last 5 minute) is build what you want... why not just use the debian repos?
15:51 wajasu archlinux has its own package manager called pacman (not rpm), and i wrote a script to build the packages from cpan which worked.
15:51 * mtompset bows to the hard-core awesomeness of wajasu. ;)
15:52 mtompset debian use .deb files, not .rpm's.
15:53 wajasu but cpan depenedcies have more deps, etc. which gets big. so koha is really debian dependent on having packages available.
15:53 wajasu i see.
15:54 mtompset Actually... I was tinkering with a script for a yum-based install (CentOS)
15:54 mtompset The problem is I would have to pull things from CPAN.
15:54 mtompset And that seems yucky.
15:55 mtompset Unless I packaged them, and then installed from the packages I generated.
15:55 wajasu i have a nice bash script that runs using a debian preseed file and builds a koha VM(using libvirt/qemu and includes the koha-common packages, pulling from the k-c.org repo.
15:56 mtompset I'm running Ubuntu, so no need for that. :)
15:56 wajasu it was to distribution agnostic, and let folks run koha in a debian VM. so know i would deploy the koha appliance to archlinux, ubuntu, etc.
15:57 wajasu the problem with archlinux was it updated so frequently, its not what you want for a server, because if an update changes the perl version, your koha is broken.
15:59 wajasu so thats why i experimented with perlbrew, perl local:lib and then went to a VM.
16:00 mtompset Changes the DEFAULT perl?
16:01 mtompset Well, it's nearing midnight. I need to get to bed, or I'll turn into a pumpkin. ;)
