00:43 wajasu v3.8.0 - when i import a biblio via z3950 server (LOC) i usually have to specifiy the the koha item type. (usually book), but isn't that sor t of detail in the marc record? and doesn't koha leverage that? maybe a mapping of marc type to koha item type at timport? or am i missing something?
00:44 talljoy yes, the item type is buried in the marc, but the import tool does not look for it. Koha stores an itemtype in the 942$c field at the bibliorecord level.
00:45 talljoy i can see the value of leveraging that information as you say. Koha refers to that marc leader item type in some of it's displays which can be a tad annoying if the type is different from what the library calls it
00:47 wajasu that leader 06 position? maybe its too ambiguous. but then we would need a column in the item type table, which might already be there since i didn't look, that enables such a rule at import.
00:48 wajasu i'll scan the bug db to see if this has been suggested in the past.
00:52 wajasu here is something related http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=4814
00:52 huginn 04Bug 4814: enhancement, P5 - low, ---, gmcharlt, NEW , Item Type (MARC952 $c) not self-populating from imported OCLC bib
00:55 talljoy that's close, but refers more to the item level itemtype not populating.
00:57 talljoy i wonder if there is a reason that the 006 item type is not utilized. curious.
01:12 wajasu i'll bring it up during the work week. it could at least default when the tab is selected.
01:27 jcamins_away wajasu: talljoy: no, you cannot derive 942$c from the bib record.
01:28 jcamins_away It's a common misconception that item format as described by 006/008 is related to 942$c.
01:29 * jcamins_away wanders off.
01:31 jcamins_away If the two coincide for your data, you could do some sort of batch update, but it would not be general enough to include in Koha's import functionality.
01:56 wajasu well, there you have it then.
05:52 mib_tvzb2t hi
05:52 mib_tvzb2t someone there ?

08:59 magnuse the opac was quick - 15 strings at most
09:00 magnuse but yes, translating is not the most fun...
09:00 magnuse rangi: would you say 3.8.2 will be ready for production?
09:04 rangi nope
09:04 rangi id wait for 3.8.3 there are still problems with the calendar/holidays as well as a problem with fines
09:05 rangi fines are now calculated on return .. as well as with the cron job and seem to be doubling up, i think the calculate on return should be a syspref, and it should be made impossible to double up
09:06 magnuse hm, none of my customers use fines
09:06 rangi and there's nothing worse than charging peopel the wrong amount
09:06 magnuse yeah, that sux
09:06 rangi the calendar one would get you too
09:06 rangi it ignores holidays
09:06 magnuse not sure any of mine use that either
09:06 rangi you migth be ok then
09:08 magnuse guess i better upgrade my test install and give it a spin...

09:52 slef I think there may be an earlier one around, used on Calyx's banner, but I need to email Irma to ask.

14:11 neo__ hi
14:12 neo__ i am trying to install koha-3.8.1
14:12 neo__ while running perl Makefile.PL , i am getting one error
14:12 neo__ unable to locate Koha configuration file koha-conf.xml at /usr/local/src/koha-3.8.1/C4/Context.pm line 360.
14:12 neo__ any idea ?
14:17 cait hm
14:17 cait are you trying to update or trying to do a new installation?
14:20 jcamins_away neo__: you can ignore that error if you are doing a new installation.
14:21 cait           jcamins++ :)
14:21 neo__ yes, i am doing a new installation
14:21 jcamins_away That reminds me.
14:21 jcamins_away I need to report a bug on how C4::Context handles itself.
14:21 neo__ ok
14:22 neo__ but in my test machine there is no error like this , now i am doing in a production machine
14:28 jcamins_away neo__: that's because you already installed Koha once?
14:28 jcamins_away (on the test machine)
14:29 neo__ yes, jcamins_away , i did it several times , by removing and dropping the database
14:30 jcamins_away neo__: yes, the *very* first time you installed Koha, you would've gotten that error message.
14:30 jcamins_away It's completely harmless.
14:31 neo__ ohh... cool ,
14:31 neo__ thanks... jcamins_away
14:31 jcamins_away You're welcome.
14:31 jcamins_away Actually, I'm surprised this doesn't cause a problem for Plack.
14:32 neo__ ok
14:32 jcamins_away neo__: you can ignore my musings on the subject. Everything will work fine for you.
14:32 neo__ ok... , :)
14:35 * jcamins_away is just contemplating the reasons underlying the error, and what they say about how things are done in Koha.
14:35 * jcamins_away wonders whether Plack has access to anything more useful than environment variables.
14:35 cait hm
14:36 jcamins A pity dpavlin isn't around.
14:36 cait dpavlin
14:36 cait we can make his computer beep maybe :)
14:36 jcamins Other than, obviously, the fact that it's Sunday and he should go out and do something fun.
14:36 cait I think you could drop him an email
14:36 cait is is most of time logged in, but doesn't check too often on the channel
14:36 jcamins Yes, but not knowing the right terms would make it a hard to understand e-mail.
14:37 jcamins "I was wondering whether Plack has a doohickey that would allow us to use set_context without a KOHA_CONF environment variable."
14:37 cait ask him to drop by sometimes to talk about...X? :)
14:37 cait huh?
14:40 jcamins That was my point.
14:58 drojf jcamins: is there a gpg key for your 3.6 repository?
15:01 drojf sorry, i'm just blind
15:01 drojf found it
15:32 jcamins drojf: also, eythian said the oldstable distribution on debian.k-c.org is suitable for production use now.
15:38 drojf jcamins: i asked for my notes on the koha installation on raspberry pi where i used your repo. i should probably use oldstable for the wiki article then, but i dont know if there are the same problems that i had with 3.8 from k-c
15:39 jcamins Ah.
15:39 jcamins There shouldn't be.
15:39 jcamins The packages should be pretty much identical.
15:41 drojf ok

19:53 jcamins It's hard to tell, because it's not like it's stitching anything.
19:56 jcamins Okay, I managed to recreate the problem with the sewing machine turned off, and no fabric blocking my view.

20:18 jcamins That is correct.
