00:07 jransom any catalyst staff here?
00:19 schuster Hey jransom - so what is the status of the NZ trademark dispute?
00:19 schuster Did HLT formally request the Trademark from PTFS? or can you talk about it?
00:24 jransom heya david
00:25 jransom our lawyer has written to ptfs accepting their offer to transfer their application to hlt, being the community selected koha nonprofit organisation.
00:25 jransom i havnt heard back yet whether they have followed through.

08:39 ktk is there any patch available to this bug then "to get rid of an error for patrons with message getting an error as patron has had overdue items and is blocked for x days" we are getting this error for several of our borrowers and we cant do any transactions
08:40 ktk can some one help to sort out error on borrowers "patron has had overdue items and is blocked for x days"
08:42 Oak             magnuse++
09:11 kf ktk: which version of koha are you using?
09:13 ktk koha-3.6.2
09:13 ktk is there any way by which i can open koha database in phpMyAdmin and unblock users where it is blocked pl. help
09:20 kf I am not sure where the problem is
09:20 kf have you set a fine days value in your circulation rules?
09:20 ktk our circulation is stopped
09:20 kf administraction > circulation rules
09:22 ktk yes but there is no value for this category
09:22 ktk defined
09:28 kf hm that is correct
09:29 kf paul_p or some other biblibrarian around? is there a known problem with fines in days?
09:30 mtj heya cait
09:31 mtj ktk: try creating a circ rule, first - then test again...
09:31 kf hi mtj :)
09:31 ktk but already there are patrons under the circ rules defined
09:32 ktk shall i delete that rule and then again create
09:32 kf you can delete and change circ rules anytime - they will work for new checkouts (due dates) and fine rules will work immediately
09:33 ktk but what about old transactions
09:34 mtj add a circ rule for the problem category
09:34 mtj ... then test circ with a 'test' borrower
09:35 mtj category is itemtype, in this situation
09:35 AmitG heya mtj
09:36 mtj ktk: and yes, you access/modify any mysql database with phpmyadmin
09:36 mtj heya amit :)
09:36 mtj happy new year everyone! :p
09:39 ktk i tried creating new rule and changing the category and rule to the patron for one of the patrons where i am getting an error as Patron has had overdue items and is blocked for 830 day(s). but the same error is still there
09:39 kf in the patron record
09:39 kf when you log at the flags
09:40 kf is there a flag debarred with a date set?
09:40 ktk how to check that
09:40 kf I think changing the rule is probably not enough here, as the patron records have been changed already
09:40 Oak Overheard in the lobby of a Johannesburg hotel: "My wife is an hour late. She's either been kidnapped, hit by a motorcar or she's shopping. I hope she hasn't been shopping." -- Johannesburg Sunday Times
09:41 kf not nice! :)
09:41 Oak :o)
09:42 mtj ktk: as kf said... look at the patron record
09:42 ktk what to be looked in patron record
09:42 kf look at the debarred flag
09:42 kf and if there is a date set
09:44 ktk there is an expiry date but which is 2020
09:44 ktk as we gave 99 months for this category
09:44 kf ktk
09:44 kf please read what I write ;)
09:44 kf open the patrn record to edit it
09:44 kf and go to patron flags
09:44 kf at the bottom
09:45 ktk and there Gone no Address: Yes No Restricted: Yes No Lost Card: Yes No "everything here is No"
09:49 mtj ktk: if you pastebin a screenshot, i'll take a look at it
09:49 * magnuse waves at mtj
09:49 mtj ktk: my hunch... you have a buggy circulation rule?
09:50 * mtj waves back at magnuse
09:51 ktk i just want to get solution to the problem now.
09:51 kf mtj: or it's a real bug
09:52 kf fine in days was changed recently...
09:52 kf and that worries me actually
09:52 ktk check the screenshot
09:52 kf we have no link ktk :)

09:54 ktk sorry
09:55 ktk hw can i give link from PasteBin
09:55 kf you have to upload the screenshot somewhere
09:55 kf and give us that link
09:56 kf i am not sure mibpaste can handle images
09:57 mtj hmm, i'm not sure pastebin does images too! :/
10:00 mtj inky.ws looks to do images, ok
10:00 mtj i couldnt find anything better :/
10:00 ktk ok let me check

10:02 ktk http://static.inky.ws/image/1088/image.jpg
10:03 ktk http://static.inky.ws/image/1088/image.jpg
10:03 ktk why the link is coming blank
10:03 ktk i tried pasting it
10:03 kf I can see the images
10:03 kf can you post an image of your circulation rules?
10:04 mtj ktk: is your system clock set correctly?
10:04 kf has the cronjob for fines been run on this system?
10:04 ktk yes cron is set
10:04 mtj system clock is correct?
10:05 ktk let me check
10:05 ktk yes thats as well correct
10:06 mtj and check your circ rules, specifically your 'Suspension in Days (day)' values
10:06 ktk that is 0 only
10:06 ktk i checked that
10:06 kf yep, I think that is the next step
10:07 kf for default library and the specific library where this happens?
10:07 ktk its only one library
10:08 huginn New commit(s) needsignoff: [Bug 7241] circulation action logs record biblionumber instead of item number <http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=7241>
10:08 kf yes
10:08 kf but there is a pull down on top
10:09 kf have you entered the circ rules for the default or for the library?
10:09 ktk for the library
10:12 kf ok
10:13 mtj you may need to look at the value for 'borrowers.debarred' for this patron record
10:13 kf has this installation been updated from a previous version?
10:13 kf yep, and if the answer is yes mtj's suggestion is the next step
10:13 ktk yes upgraded from 3.4.2 to 3.6.2 to get out
10:14 ktk hw to look at borrowers.debarred
10:14 mtj mysql prompt , or phpmyadmin?
10:14 kf hm or reports
10:14 kf but others would be easier
10:15 mtj yep, or some sql, via koha reports
10:16 mtj mysql prompt is best/easiest
10:16 ktk nw if i know debarred member how to unbar/unblock that member is the key question
10:16 mtj remove value from borrowers.debarred
10:16 ktk pl tell me hw to d that
10:17 mtj mysql > update borrowers set debarred = null where borrowernumber = 777
10:18 mtj that could work... ?
10:18 kf ktk: yes, but you don't want it to happen again
10:18 kf ktk: so findingout why it happened is important too
10:19 kf I think it's been probably an update problem
10:22 ktk no before the version there was a problem hence i ran the upgrade to sort out the problem
10:24 ktk i tried running mysql command but no change
10:24 mtj ktk: ok, so you are gonna have to look and fix-up your borrowers.debarred values
10:24 kf can you try: select debarred from borrowers where borrowernumber = 77
10:24 mtj ... and set them to something correct
10:24 kf and is 777 the borrowernumber of the patron you are having problems with?
10:26 mtj ktk: replace 777 with *your* problematic patrons number... ;) ok?
10:26 ktk select debarred from borrowers where borrowernumber =3; when i ran it showed me NULL value
10:26 kf ok
10:26 kf that should be ok then
10:27 ktk but still it is not allowing me to checkout
10:27 ktk for that patron
10:27 mtj becoz he has overdue books?
10:28 ktk no there are no overdue books
10:28 mtj or becoz he is blocked for 830 days?
10:28 ktk so that is my question how to unblock him
10:29 mtj so... has the blocking message changed now?
10:29 mtj or is it still the same?
10:30 ktk still the same
10:34 mtj hmm, a nasty bug :/
10:34 ktk its killing my head
10:34 kf could you check the output of: select finedays from issuingrules?
10:34 mtj ktk: you have this problem before the upgrade? on your 3.4 system?
10:35 ktk yes it was and hence i thought in upgrade it may go and i ran an upgrade
10:35 mtj bug 6328
10:35 huginn 04Bug http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=6328 major, PATCH-Sent, ---, paul.poulain, ASSIGNED , Fine in days does not work

10:35 kf there is a similar report to yours - but no solution
10:36 mtj looks like it may be related to the above bug
10:36 ktk wil it get sorted out with new version
10:36 ktk or what could be solution
10:36 kf I think there is something wrong in configuration
10:37 kf but yes, this feature has been changed for the next version and perhaps updates to it will be in 3.6.3 - but I am not sure about that
10:37 kf http://lists.katipo.co.nz/public/koha/2010-November/026432.html
10:37 kf do your items have proper itemtypes?
10:38 kf and check if changing your OverduesBlockCirc system preference makes a difference
10:39 kf http://stats.workbuffer.org/irclog/koha/2011-10-21#i_795564
10:39 kf here is some information too
10:40 ktk yes they have item types and i checked that too
10:40 kf does changing the system prefer3ence make a difference?
10:40 kf did you check the select finedays from issuingrules? what was the result?
10:41 ktk how to check this finedays from issuingrules
10:41 mtj wow, nice info kf :) well done!
10:42 kf like you did before - run the sql
10:42 kf              select finedays from issuingrules;
10:42 kf hi paul_p
10:43 ktk and it gave the numbers with 0
10:43 kf all 0 not null?
10:43 kf hmm
10:43 kf you could try
10:43 kf              update issuingrules set finedays = NULL;
10:45 ktk hi kt thanks tons this worked perfectly
10:45 ktk thanks thanks thanks a lot
10:45 ktk i was tensed since yday
10:45 kf cool
10:45 kf happy it worked!
10:45 magnuse         kf++ mtj++
10:46 ktk nw it allowed me to checkout book for that borrower and the above query made changes at 56 places
10:46 kf it should have updated your circ rules
10:46 kf from 0 to null
10:46 kf which is... basically the same but still isn't the same
10:47 ktk oh i hope it does not make books checked in for those borrowers right
10:47 kf should have no side effects I think but the problem can reappear when you change your circ rules
10:47 kf it should not affect current checkouts
10:47 kf it only deactivates the feature for suspending patrons in days
10:47 kf it's an alternative for charging fines
10:47 ktk thx tons!
10:47 ktk ok
10:47 mtj hmm, so thats a bug in the code somewhere?, and not in ktk's database?
10:48 kf I think so
10:48 kf from the chat log I posted
10:48 huginn New commit(s) needsignoff: [Bug 7421] UNIMARC authorities DOM indexing mode <http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=7421>

13:23 tcohen anyone here with time to talk about memcached?
13:23 kf seems pretty silent here today
13:23 tcohen hi kf
13:24 kf hi tcohen :)
13:26 tcohen i'm about to do some tests on memoize
13:26 tcohen for data invalidation
13:26 tcohen the docs say "it doesnt work"
14:06 * tcohen is happy, as flush_cache seems to work as expected in memoize
14:07 kf tcohen: not sure I can help you here
14:08 tcohen no problem, it seems to work
14:08 kf but I noticed a problem with frameworks - when you change something it gets cached instead of changing
14:08 tcohen yes
14:08 kf only started using it for my test installation recently
14:08 kf but I really think the cache needs to refresh when you change things - it's very confusing
14:08 tcohen whati am trying to propose is a way to invalidate caches
14:08 tcohen just trying to figure out the best way to do it
14:09 tcohen as this memoize/dynamic programming thing
14:09 tcohen is not the nicest way to deal with this
14:10 tcohen i.e. we avoid touching the code that reads data
14:10 tcohen but will end touching the code that writes it, so it invalidates the cache
14:11 tcohen nevermind, i'm just stuck thinking on this
14:15 jcamins Good morning, #koha.

15:01 nengard I'm setting the 952$1 to -5 for hidden and it's not marking the field as hidden
15:01 nengard other 952 subfields have that value and are hidden

15:03 nengard lost
15:03 nengard doing a video on how to hide the lost field from the edit items form
15:04 sekjal you may need a different lost value
15:04 sekjal sorry
15:04 sekjal not lost value
15:04 sekjal hidden value
15:04 wahanui hidden value is 0 which should make 653 $a visible in the OPAC.
15:04 nengard which apparently you can't do - i tried all kinds of hidden values
15:04 nengard i did 5, -5, -1
15:04 nengard it never hides it
15:04 nengard it does save the value though
15:05 nengard it's there when i go back to edit the item
15:05 sekjal what about setting the tab managed to "ignore"?
15:05 nengard oh ?. let's see

15:47 wizzyrea dumb question (probably) is there a sanctioned place in a standard koha install where one would stash their custom CSS files? (I'm looking at bug 7001). Certainly, any old web accessible place would do, but I am sure someone is going to ask the question "where do I put these files, I'm not running anything but Koha on this server"
15:47 huginn 04Bug http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=7001 enhancement, PATCH-Sent, ---, srdjan, ASSIGNED , User Configurable Slips

15:49 jcamins wizzyrea: there is not a good place for custom CSS files.
15:49 jcamins There should be.
15:49 jcamins I've seen people put them in koha-tmpl/prog/en/css
15:49 wizzyrea ok good, that's kind of both what I was and wasn't hoping for
15:49 jcamins It's a bad idea.
15:50 kf translations
15:50 wahanui translations are there... And might help stoping the warnings.
15:50 kf bad idea
15:50 wizzyrea ^^ is a good answer because I can make it happen, is a bad answer because it will likely incite a lot of debate ^.^
15:50 kf if you activate a language later and forget to copy the file... it will look ugly
15:50 jcamins kf: yes, that's why I recommend against it.
15:51 jcamins kf: actually, even bigger issue: you have to hardcode the 'en' into the database.
15:52 jcamins It's a bigger problem with js, because then you end up with English strings.
15:52 wizzyrea so, what about koha-tmpl/intranet/custom_css or something
15:52 jcamins This seems sensible.
15:52 wizzyrea take it up a few levels
15:52 wizzyrea outside of translations
15:52 * kf nods
15:52 kf I think that would be good
15:53 wizzyrea the path doesn't really matter, it's definable in the sysprefs
15:53 jcamins +1
15:53 kf or best option we have now
15:53 wizzyrea perhaps an email to the dev list is in order
15:53 jcamins wizzyrea: right, if you put it in en, you have to put that in the database, and now your de installations have jQuery inserting English words.
15:57 jcamins Additional reason there should be a separate directory: people forget to rescue their customizations when moving to a new server.
15:58 wizzyrea right - that's one thing that we can help koha admins with
15:58 wizzyrea the packages could even dump that stuff into the backups

17:11 kf :)
17:11 kf time to leave for me - bbl :)
17:12 wizzyrea have you guys seen this: http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/covercake_launches_analytics_dashboard_for_book_in.php
17:12 wizzyrea http://www.covercake.com/docs/api
17:13 wizzyrea www.covercake.com
17:14 * wizzyrea wonders if there is an open analog
17:18 magnuse the api is open?
17:19 magnuse nah, probably not
17:22 Guest23478 phew. I really ought to find a place to stash a proper bouncer.
17:22 jcamins Might be a good idea.
17:23 rhcl "Our proprietary technology scans all comments " if that's any help
17:23 magnuse wizzyrea: as in "a type of security guard employed at venues such as bars, nightclubs or concerts to provide security, check legal age, or to refuse entry for intoxication, aggressive behavior, or lack of attractiveness."?
17:24 wizzyrea well I was thinking of "IRC bouncer" but I could use my own bouncer. You know, with my international fame and all.
17:24 wizzyrea wait, what?
17:24 wahanui wait, is it only in items?
17:24 wizzyrea forget wait
17:24 wahanui wizzyrea: I forgot wait
17:27 jcamins BTW, the coffee cake is delicious.
17:27 jcamins It took forever to cook, but was totally worth it.
17:27 magnuse wizzyrea: lol
17:28 * oleonard was just given a folder containing some printed-out emails from the time when we first switched to Koha
17:28 wizzyrea was that cool or traumatic?
17:28 oleonard September 2, 2003 was our go-live date
17:29 magnuse yay!
17:29 oleonard Looking back I think our staff was incredibly patient
17:29 magnuse which version would that have been?
17:29 oleonard Not-quite-officially 2.0 I think
17:30 oleonard What's just as nostalgic about it is that the emails were exchanged using the custom-built web-based email system I wrote for the library in ColdFusion
17:31 rhcl wow
17:33 magnuse heh
17:38 oleonard One of the first issues that came up was why we couldn't initiate the holds process from a patron page as opposed to a biblio page
17:38 oleonard Only took us eight years to get that working :)
17:38 librarygeekadam i need some help with installing koha 3.6.2 on Ubuntu 11.10. I am running the "grep none" command and getting the libyaz3 and libyaz3-dev to show up as none. I fixed this one other time but I don't remember how and I cannot find documentation online. Does anyone have an idea to help me? I appreciate it
17:42 librarygeekadam is any one there?
17:45 oleonard librarygeekadam: Is running the "grep none" command part of some instructions you're following?
17:45 librarygeekadam yes
17:45 oleonard Which?
17:45 librarygeekadam from the http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Koha_on_Ubuntu
17:46 librarygeekadam the full command is "install_misc/ubuntu-pkg-check.sh | grep none
17:46 librarygeekadam it is under #5 on the instructions
17:47 librarygeekadam i have libyaz4
17:49 oleonard FWIW librarygeekadam I have a working Koha test system in a VM and get the same results
17:49 magnuse librarygeekadam: that might not be a problem, see: http://git.koha-community.org/gitweb/?p=koha.git;a=blob;f=INSTALL.ubuntu.lucid;h=562dafd01c305c79fb19fbc701c338b5ed0eac3c;hb=HEAD#l88
17:49 librarygeekadam ahhh i see
17:50 * magnuse would recommend the INSTALL.* files that come with Koha over anything in the wiki
17:50 * oleonard is frustrated that those instructions on the wiki differ from the INSTALL file
17:50 magnuse yeah, we should clean that up
17:50 librarygeekadam cool...libyaz4 may work and I should just proceed and see what happens
17:51 librarygeekadam i really appreciate the help and advice...have a happy new year!
18:00 cait back :)
18:01 magnuse welcome back cait!
18:01 cait thx :)
18:01 magnuse i just started http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Install-instructions_on_the_wiki_RFC - feel free to shoot it down or add your own great ideas!
18:02 wizzyrea magnuse: i have actually been thinking about this quite a lot lately
18:02 wizzyrea 1. we need to suggest that people use the packages FIRST
18:02 wizzyrea always
18:03 magnuse yeah, good one!
18:03 wizzyrea 2. we need to get rid of the "standard" install instructions and replace with "packages install"
18:03 wizzyrea 3. we should include instructions for "dev mode" only
18:03 wizzyrea with all of the manual dohickeys
18:03 magnuse except if you need translations, that's not available for the packages yet...
18:03 wizzyrea right, so with some caveats
18:04 wizzyrea but
18:04 wizzyrea my thinking is
18:04 wizzyrea they need to be all split out
18:04 wizzyrea install.DEBIAN.Packages
18:04 wizzyrea install.DEBIAN.Dev
18:04 wizzyrea install.DEVIAN.Standard
18:04 wizzyrea or .Translations
18:04 cait hm
18:04 wizzyrea which need their own instructions *anyway*
18:04 cait perhaps we need a picture
18:05 cait not sure how you call them
18:05 wizzyrea diagram?
18:05 magnuse flowchart?
18:05 cait like: do you plan to make changes yes - no
18:05 cait do you plan ot use other languages yes no
18:05 magnuse ooh, that would be cool!
18:05 cait yep
18:05 cait flowchart I think
18:05 wizzyrea might be able to build that into the makefile
18:05 wizzyrea i.e. STOP IT - go and use the packages <instructions>
18:06 wizzyrea but of cousre that requires people to READ
18:06 magnuse hehe
18:06 magnuse yeah, and part of the trouble is getting them to the right place
18:06 magnuse the wiki is nowhere to be seen if you google "install koha"...
18:07 magnuse so we need to think about some SEO too...
18:07 wizzyrea yea
18:07 * wizzyrea waits for paul_p to say something
18:08 magnuse actually http://koha-community.org/download-koha/ is the second hit (at least for me) - that might be an important entrypoint, i guess
18:08 wizzyrea yeap.
18:08 wizzyrea I updated that recently to suggest packages first.
18:09 magnuse yay
18:09 wizzyrea I told you I've been thinking about this for a while ;)
18:09 magnuse hehe
18:12 rhcl http://duckduckgo.com/?q=koha+install
18:13 rhcl does anybody else see the hit "blazing moon"? where'd that come from?
18:13 * magnuse sees it to
18:13 rhcl kohakenya? koha on windows?
18:14 rhcl strange return priority. They must be using zebra for indexing
18:14 magnuse heh, galen's backup of the old wiki comes before the new wiki...
18:14 magnuse hehe
18:15 oleonard I've seen that site before rhcl. If I recall correctly it's out of date and not helpful
18:15 rhcl duckduckgo? Oh, that site has been getting some publicity recently. Including suggestions FF might make them the default search engine before they renewed w/ google
18:16 oleonard rhcl: I mean the blazingmoon one
18:16 rhcl ah
18:17 rhcl Well, I think duckduckgo is in the MS camp, so that's probably why it's showing twisted results, especially if they see my OS id'ing as linux
18:19 gmcharlt magnuse: heh - apparently Google respects The Library Police (tm) ;)
18:19 cait lol
18:19 magnuse heh
18:19 * oleonard bangs his library truncheon against his library body armor menacingly
18:20 * cait goes to look up truncheon
18:20 cait oh
18:21 magnuse yeah, you don't want to mess with the library police
18:21 jcamins No indeed!
18:22 magnuse http://boston.cbslocal.com/2012/01/02/charlton-library-sends-police-to-collect-overdue-books-from-5-year-old/
18:22 paul_p pfiou... 114 mails in my inbox, most of them needed a lot of time to deal with...
18:22 paul_p hello from an hotel near paris !
18:22 magnuse charlton, even. coincidence? hardly!
18:23 magnuse bonne nuit, paul_p
18:23 paul_p thx for the happy birthday send by pm by many of you ;-)
18:23 jcamins paul_p: happy birthday!
18:24 paul_p magnuse, not yet time to sleep ;-)
18:24 bag hey paul_p how's the birthday going :D
18:24 paul_p bag, well, alone in an hotel is not the funniest place to be ;-)
18:24 magnuse ouch
18:24 bag nope but I hope it was a good day
18:25 bag hey paul_p I just found out that libsysguy also shares today as a birthday with us :d
18:25 paul_p bag, yep. it was the 1st day of a new project, University Paris-sud has choosen Koha. One more university !
18:25 nengard paul_p ALA falls on my bday every year so I'm in a hotel for my bday :( but I do have my ByWater family there with me!
18:25 paul_p hey, right ! happy birthday too bad !
18:25 paul_p hey, right ! happy birthday too bag !
18:25 magnuse yay for Paris-sud
18:25 bag thanks
18:26 skushner I used debian.install using dev/git and keep getting 403 error from Apache, and have no idea why? anyone...?
18:26 paul_p what's your plan for your birthday bag ?
18:26 bag working and then I'm going to grill some steaks and enjoy a cake with Sonja (my wife)
18:27 jcamins bag: grilled cake?
18:27 bag I've heard of it - but not this time
18:27 jcamins :(
18:28 * jcamins thinks everyone in places where grills are allowed should have grilled cake.
18:29 oleonard Seriously? Grilled cake?
18:29 * jcamins shrugs.
18:29 jcamins bag has a grill that can grill *anything*.
18:32 * jcamins lives in the city, and therefore doesn't have a grill.
18:42 nengard can someone test something for me - set your renewalbaseperiod to 'the old due date' and then renew an item - note the number of days the item was renewed for - was it right? did it follow the circ rule and the system preference? I tested this and my checkout period is 10 days but when I renew with this preference it gives the patron 14 days with the item - in fact it gives them 14 days on all renewals even with diff rules in pl
18:42 nengard ace
18:43 nengard it could just be my messy data, so i'd like someone else to give it a whirl
18:45 cait it's old checkout date
18:45 cait wron spelling
18:45 cait I think
18:45 cait in the pref description
18:45 cait or it was used to be checkout date and should be
18:45 cait or ignore me on the phone
18:49 Mkman Hello
18:49 wahanui que tal, Mkman
18:50 Mkman wahanui: que tal o que lol ?
18:50 wahanui mkman: i haven't a clue
18:50 jcamins Mkman: wahanui is a bot.
18:50 Mkman yeh i kind of guess that from the last message lol
18:55 Mkman i would like to join some development of your software. where can i start?
18:55 jcamins Getting involved?
18:55 jcamins That didn't work.
18:55 jcamins get involved?
18:55 jcamins No luck there either.
18:55 jcamins Get involved is http://koha-community.org/get-involved/
18:55 jcamins getting involved is http://koha-community.org/get-involved/
18:55 jcamins getting involved?
18:55 wahanui getting involved is probably http://koha-community.org/get-involved/
18:55 jcamins :)
18:56 jcamins Mkman: the IRC channel is a good place to spend time if you'll be developing.
18:57 jcamins You'll also want to join the koha-devel mailing list.
18:57 jcamins mailing lists?
18:57 wahanui mailing lists are at http://koha-community.org/support/koha-mailing-lists/
18:57 jcamins ^^ that's why we have wahanui. ;)
18:57 jcamins What are you interested in working on?
18:58 Mkman jcamins: i am not a expert programmer or in fact an programmer, i am a hobbyst that know some perl i would like to help your project and improve my skills also
18:59 jcamins Mkman: we're glad to have you.
18:59 cait hi Mkman
18:59 cait do you have a library background? :)
18:59 jcamins Depending on what features/bugs you're concerned with, there may be certain people who you should know.
18:59 magnuse welcome Mkman!
19:00 Mkman cait: no. but i love to read so i spend some hours there and i would love watching Libraries move to opensource tech
19:00 Mkman :)
19:01 Mkman jcamins,magnuse thanks
19:01 cait :)
19:01 jcamins For example, if you are interested in authorities, chances are I'd be able to help.
19:02 jcamins Well, "help" in the loosest sense... I'd be able to make things more complicated by telling you where all the exceptions are. ;)
19:02 cait don't scare him away!
19:02 Mkman just give me some work to do, then with some times i decide in which part i am more confortable :)
19:03 jcamins Mkman: have you set up Koha on a development system?
19:03 magnuse one way to help the project and get to know the code is to "sign off" on patches others have written: http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Sign_off_on_patches
19:04 Mkman jcamins: i am not in my development machine right now. but i will install it once ate home
19:05 Mkman s/ate/at
19:05 cait ifyou are interested in developing
19:05 cait it's good to do a dev install from git
19:06 Mkman ok :)
19:26 * magnuse wishes #koha a good time of the day!
19:27 wizzyrea bug 7424
19:27 huginn 04Bug http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=7424 enhancement, P5 - low, ---, gmcharlt, NEW , Koha should have a designated place for custom CSS
19:27 wizzyrea just fyi
19:36 jcamins How do I mark an attachment as obsolete on bugzilla manually?
19:37 wizzyrea click details
19:37 wizzyrea then edit details (it's kind of hiding at the top)
19:37 wizzyrea then there's a checkbox
19:37 jcamins Ah!
19:37 jcamins Thanks.
19:37 wizzyrea yw
19:38 jcamins fredericd: around?
19:48 huginn New commit(s) needsignoff: [Bug 6030] Allow for html in letters in overdue notices <http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=6030>
19:57 Mkman ok. i will now set up the dev env.
19:59 jcamins paul_p: around?
20:01 cait bit late perhaps
20:01 cait 9pm
20:01 jcamins cait: yes, I was going to tell him to go spend time with his children.
20:01 cait jcamins: can i help you? :)
20:01 jcamins :P
20:01 cait if he is in paris they are probably not around
20:02 jcamins Oh, right. Forgot about that.
20:02 jcamins paul_p: never mind. You may carry on. ;)
20:04 rhcl watching the responses to the LL post to the mailing list....
20:04 jcamins cait: I'm considering moving ModZebra out of C4::Biblio into Koha::something.
20:04 jcamins Thoughts?
20:04 cait what does modZebra do?
20:04 jcamins My instinct is Koha::Search.
20:04 cait and I am only your third... or even forth choice
20:05 jcamins cait: no, the question for fredericd was about something else.
20:05 wizzyrea I bet you money that libraries will do it privately.
20:05 jcamins wizzyrea: I will not take that bet.
20:05 wizzyrea though it would be cool if people felt like they could speak their minds about such issues
20:05 jcamins cait: ModZebra is the function that adds things to zebraqueue.
20:05 jcamins Including authority-type things.
20:06 jcamins C4::Biblio is a dumb place to handle indexing authorities.
20:06 jcamins And that is my final word on the subject.
20:08 jcamins cait: my instinct is Koha::Search.
20:08 jcamins Wait, I said that.
20:08 jcamins That deja vu you all felt?
20:08 jcamins That wasn't deja vu.
20:08 jcamins That was me repeating myself.
20:08 cait you confuse me
20:08 huginn New commit(s) needsignoff: [Bug 7429] CircAutoPrintQuickSlip description has a typo <http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=7429>
20:08 cait I am not sure, but the solr work might confligt
20:08 cait conflict even
20:08 cait perhaps something with a zebra in it?
20:08 cait koha:search:zebra?
20:09 jcamins Oh, no, you misunderstand.
20:09 cait ok
20:09 jcamins The actual *code* goes in Koha::Search::Engine::Zebra.
20:09 rhcl Mkman: do you know Ricardo Dias Marques? I think he's in Portugal.
20:09 jcamins But somehow that has to get called.
20:09 jcamins Oh, I just found it it in C4::Search::Engine in the solr stuff.
20:10 * jcamins will PODify his new implementation of Koha::Search::Engine.
20:10 jcamins It will be glorious.
20:10 cait yay!
20:11 jcamins Does anyone have any objection to me submitting lots of bugs?
20:11 cait jcamins: I am sure it will be :)
20:11 jcamins No?
20:11 wahanui i heard No was failing unit tests
20:11 jcamins Good.
20:11 cait nope go ahead
20:11 cait you have a bug wrangler's permission ;)
20:12 jcamins :)
20:12 wizzyrea it was preference worthy to make searching of extended patron attributes togglable?!
20:12 * wizzyrea boggles
20:13 jcamins wizzyrea: absolutely.
20:13 jcamins wizzyrea: without a syspref...
20:13 jcamins uhhh...
20:13 * wizzyrea waits with bated breath
20:13 jcamins cait: help me out here?
20:13 jcamins wahanui: why?
20:13 wahanui bugger all, i dunno, jcamins
20:13 * wizzyrea taps her toe
20:14 jcamins wizzyrea: there's your answer.
20:14 cait huh?
20:14 wizzyrea hehe
20:14 cait searching for attributes?
20:14 cait I think it's a nice touch
20:14 wizzyrea I'm not sure why you would ever want it off, but it is helpful that it tells you what to do if the pref is off and you've selected "searchable" in an attribute
20:15 wizzyrea I agree, searching attributes is great
20:15 wizzyrea but I want to know why we have a knob to turn it off. ;)
20:15 cait perhaps
20:15 wizzyrea it's mostly rhetorical :)
20:15 cait if you have things in there that might pollute your search results
20:15 nengard cause everytime someone adds something without an off seitch someone asks for an off switch :)
20:15 cait like... other names?
20:16 cait or what nengard said :)
20:16 nengard heh
20:16 wizzyrea still... that?
20:16 wizzyrea i'll be boggling about it for a while.
20:17 wizzyrea (but it's fine that it's togglable, I just don't understand the necessity of it)
20:17 wizzyrea (besides "someone said they wanted an off switch)
20:17 wizzyrea (users don't always know best)
20:18 wizzyrea (but the software is always for the users - so there's that)
20:19 sekjal the off-switch is on the preference itself; no global level is required
20:21 wizzyrea i've read that several times now, and i still don't grasp what you're getting at
20:21 wizzyrea sorry >.<
20:22 sekjal since each extended patron preference can be either made searchable or not, if the library doesn't want to search on any extended attributes, they can just make them all not searchable
20:23 sekjal ... or maybe I'm misunderstanding
20:23 wizzyrea oh, right
20:23 wizzyrea nope, i get that :)
20:23 wizzyrea I understand if you went through and added a bunch of attributes, made them all searchable, then you wanted to turn them off
20:23 wizzyrea that would be the way
20:24 wizzyrea better than going through a whole list
20:24 wizzyrea it's really not an issue worth discussing, it's in, it works fine
20:24 wizzyrea I just don't understand (and it's not important that I do) why it's even necessary.
20:25 sekjal it's not
20:25 sekjal I didn't even know such a preference was in there now
20:25 wizzyrea ha!
20:25 wizzyrea I was looking at 7001 and one of the things was to make a patron with a borrower attribute, that's why I was poking at that
20:26 wizzyrea "seriously? I have to turn that on?"
20:26 * jcamins submit gratuitous bugs in an effort to move along the solr integration task.
20:26 wizzyrea keke
20:27 jcamins Does anyone disagree with my assertion that if you change indexing engines, it would be acceptable to require you to restart your web browser?
20:27 oleonard Why?
20:27 jcamins Not browser.
20:27 jcamins Server.
20:27 wizzyrea ^^
20:27 jcamins I mean, Apache.
20:27 jcamins 'Cause that's the way it works with BibLibre's code now, and I don't want to try and find a workaround.
20:28 jcamins At least, if you're running with mod_perl.
20:28 wizzyrea that's what, a 3-5 second downtime?
20:28 jcamins Right now it works fine 'cause we use CGI.
20:28 jcamins Quarter second?
20:28 wizzyrea depends on how busy the server is I guess
20:28 wizzyrea but
20:28 jcamins graceful will do it.
20:28 wizzyrea it's not something you do all the time
20:29 jcamins Right.
20:29 wizzyrea I don't see a problem with it really, lots of things make you restart apache.
20:29 jcamins Also, if you're switching back and forth between solr and Zebra while your server is busy, you deserve it to be a mess.
20:29 jcamins Excellent.
20:38 gmcharlt jcamins: and if one were *really* worried about it, one could always use two web servers and a load balancer
20:39 jcamins gmcharlt: true.
20:39 jcamins And, my point that anyone who changes indexing engines on a production server during a busy period is probably an idiot remains unchallenged. ;)
20:40 gmcharlt some people say "idiot", some people say "one who likes to live dangerously" ;)
20:40 jcamins gmcharlt: would _you_ do that?
20:41 gmcharlt jcamins: I try to lead as boring an existence at work as I can manage
20:41 jcamins gmcharlt: very wise.
20:41 cait good night all
20:49 maximep we seem to have a badly formed MARC record in our db that prevent rebuild_zebra from finishing it's job
20:49 maximep what would be the best way to find that record
20:51 wizzyrea hmm
20:53 maximep log from rebuild_zebra
20:53 maximep 13:12:39-09/01 zebraidx(14745) 20d7d7fc8c7f0000 [log] Records: 34000 i/u/d 34000/0/0
20:53 maximep 13:12:41-09/01 zebraidx(14745) 20d7d7fc8c7f0000 [log] MARC: Bad directory
20:53 maximep 13:12:41-09/01 zebraidx(14745) 20d7d7fc8c7f0000 [warn] MARC: Bad offsets in data. Skipping rest
20:53 maximep I know it'S after 34000 -_-
20:53 maximep found http://lists.indexdata.dk/pipermail/zebralist/2009-March/002132.html
20:53 maximep but really have to idea of how to test the marc of everything to find the bad one :/
20:55 wizzyrea hmm does it do the indexing in biblionumber order?
20:55 jcamins wizzyrea: it does.
20:55 wizzyrea maybe look for biblionumber 34000?
20:55 jcamins But it probably won't be that biblionumber.
20:55 wizzyrea hm
20:55 jcamins It's going to be after the 34000*th* record.
20:55 wizzyrea somewhere around there though?
20:56 wizzyrea what's the increment of the count?
20:56 wizzyrea 1000?
20:56 wizzyrea 100?
20:56 * wizzyrea honestly doesn't know
20:56 * wizzyrea wouldn't mind knowing
20:57 jcamins 100 by default, I think.
20:57 maximep would touchallbiblios give an error ?
20:57 maximep 1000
20:57 jcamins maximep: I think it would, yes.
20:57 Mkman a question. where can i get zebra?
20:58 paul_p maximep, an option is to add a LIMIT 33800,34900 to the rebuild_zebra.pl SELECT marcxml FROM biblioitems
20:58 jcamins Mkman: install it using apt-get.
20:58 jcamins Mkman: if you follow the instructions in INSTALL.debian, that'll take you through the entire process.
20:58 Mkman jcamins: i am on Gentoo Linux not a debian based system
20:59 jcamins Mkman: oh. In that case your first development project will be figuring out how to install Koha. ;)
20:59 jcamins Zebra can be found at http://www.indexdata.com/zebra
20:59 Mkman eheh no problem
20:59 wizzyrea zebra is <reply> can be found at http://www.indexdata.com/zebra
20:59 wizzyrea famous last words.
20:59 jcamins Argle blargle!
21:00 maximep ok thanks, will try a touchallbiblios and if not will try the LIMIT option
21:00 jcamins I hate circular dependencies!
21:00 jcamins Logically, C4::Context really ought to offer a C4::Context->search_engine just like C4::Context->dbh.
21:01 jcamins         But, mightn't Koha::Search::Engine require C4::Context? You bet!
21:01 * jcamins grumbles.
21:05 jcamins A lot.
21:07 * jcamins has successfully scared everyone away.
21:08 Mkman lol
21:13 oleonard Bye all
21:14 wizzyrea bhe
21:14 wizzyrea bye
21:14 wizzyrea even.
21:14 jcamins Bye.
21:14 jcamins Grr. This is very puzzling.
21:21 jcamins Never mind.
21:21 jcamins Figured it out.
21:32 jcamins Still running into circular dependency issues.
21:32 jcamins Why does C4::Search depend on C4::Biblio?
21:32 jcamins GetMarcFromKohaField and GetBiblioData, apparently.
21:34 jcamins No, GetMarcFromKohaField and GetFrameworkCode.
21:39 jcamins Not sure I see why that first one should be in C4::Biblio, as an aside.
21:47 sekjal jcamins: probably because it is related to MARC mappings... but yes, it isn't entirely appropriate there
21:50 jcamins         sekjal: I wrote a lovely Koha::Search::AddToIndexQueue method.
21:50 jcamins Unfortunately, using it is proving harder than anticipated.
22:25 maximep wow, all that to find out that just passing -x to rebuild_zebra fixes the problem. Probably the only notice we have with > 99999 chars :/
22:25 maximep what a ridiculous day
22:25 jcamins maximep: sorry, I should've asked about that first!
22:25 jcamins maximep: if it makes you feel any better, the last three days have been like this for me.
22:25 maximep yeah, forgot about -x
22:25 maximep saw u mention it several time before in this channel
22:26 maximep well, spend most of the day tracking half a day of lost data from last month
22:26 maximep and looking at how to restore it
22:26 maximep not fun :/
22:26 jcamins Ugh.
22:28 Mkman good night
22:35 maximep is -x really slower ? Do you know why it isn't the default ?
22:36 blahdeblah Hi. I'm trying to install Koha according to the instructions at http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Koha_3.6_on_Debian_Squeeze. I run a dedicated database server on another system, and it's not mentioned in the instructions what permissions are necessary on the database server to allow koha-create to do its work successfully. Can anyone point me to the appropriate info?
22:37 maximep wouldnt it just ask for the right permissions if it doesn't have them ?
22:38 wizzyrea ping eythian
22:38 wizzyrea see blahdeblah's question? Can the packages do that yet?
22:39 jcamins eythian: you should use the request-db and populate-db options.
22:39 jcamins Wait.
22:39 jcamins blahdeblah: that was for you.
22:39 jcamins request-db will print a message telling you exactly what you need to set, and populate-db will fill it in.
22:39 jcamins See man koha-create
22:41 sekjal maximep: not sure why -x isn't standard... perhaps because ISO-2709 came first?
22:41 sekjal or perhaps so -a doesn't require some kind of hop-step
22:41 sekjal since it's not compatible with -x
22:41 maximep it isn't ?
22:42 maximep so i have to rebuild -b and -a in 2 commands ?
22:42 sekjal maximep: yes
22:42 sekjal -b -x and -a separately
22:42 sekjal or -b -a, but no -x
22:42 maximep ok, thx
23:01 blahdeblah jcamins: Thanks - checking them out now
23:01 blahdeblah I assume i still need to create /etc/koha/koha-sites.conf as per the wiki?
23:02 blahdeblah I was a bit concerned that DEFAULTSQL references a non-existent file. Is this an issue? There's nothing describing DEFAULTSQL in the wiki.
23:03 jcamins blahdeblah: yes, you should.
23:03 jcamins blahdeblah: you don't need DEFAULTSQL.
23:03 jcamins That's for if you want it to load a prepopulated database.
23:03 blahdeblah so just DOMAIN and INTRA*
23:03 blahdeblah ?
23:04 jcamins I think there's a way to specify database server, too...
23:04 jcamins DBSERVER?
23:04 jcamins man kohacreate
23:04 jcamins man koha-create, rather
23:09 blahdeblah According to the wiki page, db server is specified in /etc/mysql/koha-common.cnf
23:09 blahdeblah That's where i put it, and it seems to work
23:09 jcamins Ah, right.
23:09 jcamins Sorry.
23:09 * jcamins set it up once ages ago, and promptly forgot how. ;)
23:10 blahdeblah Now i get the error "User test-koha already exists." when i run "koha-create --request-db test", presumably because i've already run it before. "koha-remove test" does not fix this.
23:10 jcamins Ah.
23:10 jcamins I fixed that bug, but I guess it was after the version that you're using was released.
23:10 jcamins What version are you on?
23:10 blahdeblah latest
23:10 blahdeblah just downloaded this morning
23:11 jcamins Ah.
23:11 jcamins Guess my fix hasn't made it in yet.
23:11 blahdeblah Unless, of course, it hasn't made it into the Debian repo.
23:11 jcamins Right, that's probably what it is.
23:11 blahdeblah Is there a way i can manually remove the user?
23:12 jcamins Suggestion: wget -O ~/koha-remov "http://git.koha-community.org/gitweb/?p=koha.git;a=blob_plain;f=debian/scripts/koha-remove;h=b9e5c2ab5f4b8c15100b3ae0a6626fb31a3e9465;hb=HEAD"
23:12 jcamins Uh, spell koha-remove right.
23:12 jcamins Then, sudo ~/koha-remove test
23:12 jcamins chmod +x ~/koha-remove
23:12 jcamins Then run it.
23:12 jcamins Sorry.
23:12 jcamins Long day.
23:14 blahdeblah No joy
23:15 blahdeblah http://pastebin.com/kkureh14
23:16 jcamins Hrm.
23:16 jcamins deluser test-koha
23:17 jcamins I could've sworn I fixed that bug, but I guess not.
23:17 blahdeblah I moved the mysql stuff to the end of the script and it worked enough to get me a little further
23:18 blahdeblah The problem is that the instructions on using a separate db server (in the wiki and the README) don't make it clear what's different in that instance. When i'm done here i'll update the wiki.
23:19 jcamins Good idea. I don't recall how I did it.
23:26 libsysguy does anybody know how to view the table cascades in schemaspy?
23:26 * jcamins does not.
23:27 jcamins libsysguy: aren't you on vacation?
23:27 jcamins libsysguy: happy birthday.
23:27 libsysguy haha hey thanks jcamins
23:27 libsysguy I wish i was on vacation
23:27 * libsysguy has had a rough monday
23:28 libsysguy i think if i delete from biblio it should get biblioitems and items
23:28 libsysguy maybe not items
23:28 libsysguy ...
23:28 * jcamins has no idea.
23:28 jcamins What are you doing?
23:28 libsysguy i have a list of biblionumbers that i need to delete
23:29 libsysguy we are re-importing our ebooks with better records and since you can't update a bib we just delete them and reimport
23:30 jcamins Ah.
23:30 jcamins That makes sense.
23:30 libsysguy actaully I was just really angry from all the stuff I had to do today and I was considering deleting the catalog one record at a time :p
23:30 jcamins lol
23:31 jcamins ModZebrations?
23:31 jcamins WTF?
23:31 libsysguy 0_0
23:31 jcamins That is the name of a method.
23:32 libsysguy sounds like some one was...zebranated
23:32 libsysguy where is lame pun coon when you need him
23:35 jcamins I have absolutely no idea what it could be intended for.
23:35 jcamins I shall back away slowly.
23:38 libsysguy jcamins http://www.quickmeme.com/Lame-Pun-Coon/
23:40 jcamins libsysguy: I was talking about the ModZebrations method.
23:40 libsysguy haha I seriously thought you were afraid of the racoon :p
23:40 libsysguy but yes that method
23:41 libsysguy run away
23:42 jcamins Yes! Another absurd amount of code written by yours truly.
23:43 libsysguy you know, I have really grown to appreciate open source software after working with ILLiad and windows all day today
23:43 libsysguy if I don't like it, I change it
23:43 libsysguy that is truely magical
23:44 jcamins :)
23:47 * jcamins attaches a massive patch making a very small change to bug 7430.
23:47 huginn          04Bug http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=7430 normal, P5 - low, ---, jcamins, NEW , ModZebra should not be in C4::Biblio
