01:02 phlunk3 lo, was here the other day and rangi suggested I try a package install on ubuntu, can anyone point me to where the packages to do this can be found? I might suck at using the koha site :P
01:05 chilts       phlunk3: maybe here -> http://debian.koha-community.org/
01:34 pastebot "Phlunk3" at 202.49.168.172 pasted "Installation issue." (7 lines) at http://paste.koha-community.org/936
01:34 phlunk3 ^^ anyone knows what my issue might be?
01:46 eythian phlunk3: I assume that's not attempting a package install?
01:46 eythian but basically, it means you don't have the zoom packages.
01:47 eythian libnet-z3950-perl on Debian, I think.
01:47 phlunk3 tx eythian
01:48 phlunk3 Can't locate XML/Simple.pm in <-- any idea what is needed for this?
01:48 eythian libxml-simple-perl most likely
01:48 eythian I wonder where we're using that, we shouldn't be.
01:51 eythian huh, all over the place apparently.
01:51 eythian That's not a good thing.
01:52 eythian actually, a lot of the places where it's "use"d don't actually appear to do anything with it.
01:52 phlunk3 lol
01:53 eythian maybe one day when I'm bored, I'll make a start on removing it, it's not a good module.
01:56 pastebot "phlunk3" at 203.89.166.247 pasted "Do I need to install all these perl items?" (59 lines) at http://paste.koha-community.org/937
01:58 eythian yes.
01:58 eythian this is why the packages are good, they do all that for you.
02:01 eythian also, some of those dependencies don't have debian packages (although most do.) You can either install them from cpan, or use the packages that are in the debian.koha-community.org repo.
02:01 eythian Or use dh-make-perl to make your own.
02:02 phlunk3 yeah I wasnt too sure how to use ur debian packages on ubuntu, I am just learning about the whole package installation thing since starting at this job haha, my last employer had lots of server admins who would slap me for trying to install things ;)
02:03 eythian ah right :)
02:03 phlunk3 whats dh-make-perl used for?
02:03 eythian the packages should work on Ubuntu much the same as on Debian
02:03 eythian there is one possible bug that might happen though, the fix for which was only sent in a couple of days ago, so hasn't gone in yet.
02:03 eythian dh-make-perl lets you take a CPAN Perl module and make a .deb file out of it.
02:11 pastebot "phlunk3" at 203.89.166.247 pasted "more install problems" (17 lines) at http://paste.koha-community.org/938
02:11 phlunk3 any idea on this? is an attempt using the package installer

03:04 phlunk3 okay I am being asked if I want marc21 or unimarc, so I guess I need to go and look at the old server and see what was used there, does anyone know where I can see that info?
03:05 eythian phlunk3: where are you?
03:06 eythian (marc21 is used in most places, but some use unimarc)
03:06 phlunk3 Tauranga, if you mean which city ;)
03:06 eythian oh right.
03:06 eythian then you want marc21
03:06 eythian you coming to the conference tomorrow?
03:06 phlunk3 thanks eyth
03:07 phlunk3 no, I saw there was some usergroup meeting mentioned here a few days ago but havent really used the system so far.
03:07 phlunk3 where is the meeting?
03:07 eythian http://kete.library.org.nz/site/topics/show/216-nz-koha-users-group-meeting <-- phlunk3
03:07 eythian might be a bit too far to go on short notice though.
03:08 eythian especially with half the central NI being snowed out
03:09 phlunk3 yeah definitely, I dont even have a license yet so can't be driving places anyway haha
03:09 eythian that'll be a problem too, yeah
03:11 phlunk3 Im on a page where I choose data sources? page is called "MARC Frameworks: MARC21" would u suggest using/not using any of the optional sources?
03:12 eythian I'd put some in.
03:12 phlunk3 can they be enabled/disabled later?
03:13 eythian They can be edited later.
03:13 eythian I'd put most of it except the sample data itself.
03:13 eythian Unfortunately, it's the kind of thing that just requires a bit of practice to work out.
03:14 phlunk3 thx m8, all done with the install, now to just figure out how to move data from an older version to this one :S
03:15 eythian cool :)
03:15 eythian is the old one Koha, if so, what version?
03:16 phlunk3 3.0.05
03:16 phlunk3 sorry he says thats wrong ;)
03:16 phlunk3 moment Ill check
03:16 phlunk3 3.00.05.003 is the older version
03:17 eythian oh, that's easy then. Just move the database contents over and it should work
03:17 eythian gtg
03:17 phlunk3 yay thx heaps eyth

14:16 oleonard Hi wizzyrea
14:16 libsysguy morning wizzyrea
14:16 wizzyrea how is everyone's monday so far
14:17 libsysguy very monday like
14:17 wizzyrea :/
14:17 libsysguy indeed
14:18 libsysguy we have 21 days till launch :D
14:18 wizzyrea a lot to get done in that time?
14:19 libsysguy yeah, patron data is my next big thing to move (apparently we just can't forgive everybody's fines)
14:19 wizzyrea hmm
14:19 libsysguy druthb has some cool scripts to help that I'll be using
14:19 wizzyrea fine amnesty is a great way to bring back patrons and increase patron loyalty.
14:19 libsysguy its just a matter of me not being lazy and doing it :-\
14:20 wizzyrea ah
14:20 oleonard Fine amnesty? wizzyrea sounds like one of those liberal hippie types

14:21 libsysguy meh a nickel here a dime there...im sure it add up lol
14:21 * wizzyrea thinks that fines are a great way to get patrons to hate the library, and thus not support it when it goes to the ballots for, say, an expansion.
14:21 libsysguy i think a lot of it is just making sure we get our books back
14:22 rhcl We don't charge fines.
14:22 wizzyrea we have libraries that consider loss a cost of doing business. :P

14:46 rhcl OK, but for cascading book covers, you'd want it to be a generic puller--not hard code just amazon or OBC, right. You'd want to be able to define any number of sources

15:21 Oak hmm. :)
16:16 reiveune bye
16:33 * druthb heads out for a bit...company has arrived!
16:56 cait hi all
16:57 rhcl hi cait
17:27 rhcl looks like the 'net dropped a link somewhere
17:48 wizzyrea libsysguy1: http://www.nypl.org/readdown
17:49 wizzyrea oh bother he's gone
18:14 cait hi liz :)
18:14 wizzyrea hi cait :)
19:31 wizzyrea what's the syspref for javascript autocomplete of patron names
19:31 * wizzyrea is having a brain fart.
19:31 * talljoy holds nose
19:33 sekjal circautocomplete ?
19:43 cait hi magnuse :)
19:43 magnuse guten abend cait
19:43 magnuse ...and #koha
19:43 wizzyrea close sekjal: circautocompl
19:44 sekjal :)
19:44 wizzyrea ty :)
19:44 cait magnus: can you fly over and kill this really big spider in my bathroom?
19:45 * wizzyrea suggests the cup and index card method of spider removal
19:45 jcamins_away cait: is it a roach-eating spider?
19:45 magnuse nah, but i might try and move it outside...
19:45 cait that's ok
19:45 cait I tried to catch it... but it ran away
19:45 cait not sure I want to know where it is now
19:46 cait jcamins_away: not sure, it's big enough to catch the smaller onces
19:46 cait ones
19:49 magnuse it will probably do more good than harm...
19:49 cait hmpf
19:49 cait I have quite a high spider tolerance
19:49 cait but this is too big to live in my bathroom
19:51 magnuse heh
19:51 wizzyrea     checkins -> old_issues?
19:51 * magnuse thinks so
20:07 magnuse eythian_: quick q if you have the time: should the "translate install xx-YY" command go in debian/rules, or can i assume that has been done before debian/rules is run?
20:08 eythian_ I think that it should go into debian/rules.
20:08 eythian_ So that it's automatically made as part of the package build process.
20:08 magnuse ok
20:09 magnuse i'll be testing with norwegian, but would that mean eventually everyone will have to build packages for all the languages, when they build packages?
20:10 magnuse or is there some way to say what packages/languages should be built?
20:25 eythian_ Start with Norwegian, we'll see how that works out, and go from there.
20:25 eythian_ I think that we should be building them as part of the package building process.
20:28 magnuse ok, i'll see how far i get and worry about the rest of the world later ;-)
20:29 cait if you write down how you do it... I can try with German next :)
20:31 eythian_ yeah, well, once it's been done once, all the rest should be pretty easy
20:31 magnuse fingers crossed ;-)

20:48 phlunk3 lo, I am trying to move data from 3.00.05.003 to the current stable version, can someone suggest the best method for this? I have tried with a straight sql dump but am getting errors due to key constraints on import so guessing its wrong ;)
20:52 cait a dump should work I think
20:52 eythian_ A dump works, how are you making the dump and loading it back in?
20:52 cait hi robin
20:52 cait thx :)
20:53 * eythian_ is in a car heading to Levin.
20:54 magnuse eythian_: say hi to jo and all the other cool koha librarians of nz from us! ;-)
20:54 eythian_ sitting beside Judit, that's quite a challenge.
20:54 eythian_ fdn
20:54 eythian_ see
20:55 cait what magnuse said :)
20:55 cait did she hit you?
20:56 libsysguy ca i apply patches from bugzilla
20:56 libsysguy can*
20:56 wizzyrea you have gitbz?
20:57 wizzyrea gitbz?
20:57 libsysguy umm in theory yes
20:57 libsysguy but its not working like it should
20:57 wizzyrea make a branch git bz apply xxxx
20:57 wizzyrea what's your error?
20:57 magnuse libsysguy: see http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Sign_off_on_patches
20:57 wizzyrea git bz?
20:57 wizzyrea hrmph I know I taught wahanui about that.
20:58 libsysguy wizzyrea: bz isnt' a git command
20:58 wizzyrea ah you probably need to make sure that git-bz is in your path
20:58 wizzyrea http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Git_bz_configuration
21:04 libsysguy holy moly it works :D
21:04 phlunk3 eyth just making the dump with mysqldump and loading it via the command line (data and structure)
21:04 * libsysguy is so happy
21:04 phlunk3 maybe I should make a new dump with jsut data and try loading that to the existing tables. Will see what happens :)
21:04 wizzyrea hehe
21:04 wizzyrea what ended up being the problem?
21:05 libsysguy i think it was an old version of git-bz or something
21:05 wizzyrea cool beans!
21:05 libsysguy i checked out slefs copy and it worked awesome
21:07 * magnuse bids #koha a good night or other time of the day
21:10 libsysguy wizzyrea: is there anything i have to do after apply a patch
21:10 wizzyrea test it ^.^
21:10 libsysguy hehe
21:10 wizzyrea (no)
21:11 libsysguy even for db changes
21:11 libsysguy i was trying to test bug 5549
21:11 huginn` 04Bug http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=5549 enhancement, PATCH-Sent, ---, ian.walls, ASSIGNED , Hourly Loans
21:11 wizzyrea for DB changes you'll have to hit the web interface
21:11 wizzyrea and go through the update process
21:11 wizzyrea I don't honestly test those much
21:11 wizzyrea I think you have to give the updatedatabase script a number
21:11 * libsysguy doesn't have a choice
21:12 wizzyrea one of the others may be able to help more?
21:12 wizzyrea cait maybe?
21:12 wizzyrea hmm cait's probably in bed.
21:12 libsysguy hehe
21:12 * libsysguy would like to be sleeping and its only 4 here
21:12 cait hm'?
21:12 cait no I am here
21:12 libsysguy cait lives
21:12 libsysguy lol
21:12 cait not really :P
21:12 libsysguy haha
21:13 libsysguy do you know how to do db patches with git bz
21:13 wizzyrea (though the bz part is only for getting and pushing patches, the rest is SOP)
21:13 wizzyrea (with git)
21:14 cait ah
21:14 libsysguy SOP?
21:14 cait reading back
21:14 cait ok
21:14 wizzyrea standard operating procedure
21:14 cait let me look at the patch for a second
21:14 libsysguy ahh gotcha
21:14 libsysguy ok
21:14 cait do you have the bug number?
21:14 cait sop?
21:14 cait ah
21:14 libsysguy 5549
21:14 cait bug 5549
21:14 libsysguy bug 5549
21:14 cait lazy wahanui?
21:15 libsysguy http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=5549
21:15 huginn` 04Bug 5549: enhancement, PATCH-Sent, ---, ian.walls, ASSIGNED , Hourly Loans
21:15 cait hm
21:15 cait it looks like they did something new there
21:15 libsysguy sadly
21:16 cait have you tried to run the perl file colin mentions?
21:16 cait installer/data/mysql/atomicupdate/hourlyloans.sql
21:16 libsysguy that path doesn't exist
21:16 cait and which patch did you apply?
21:17 cait why not checkout the branch?
21:17 libsysguy 6430 6431 6432 6438
21:17 libsysguy and that may not be a bad idea
21:17 cait oh
21:17 libsysguy i made a new branch for those patches
21:17 cait hm
21:17 cait not sure how that all belongs together
21:17 cait you don#t have the file colin mentions?
21:18 libsysguy how would i check out that branch?
21:18 libsysguy and no I don't
21:18 libsysguy oh wait
21:18 libsysguy i might have had a typo
21:19 libsysguy yeah definitely not
21:19 cait hm something lieke
21:19 cait git checkout -b yournameforit new/awaiting_qa/bug_5549
21:19 cait are you checking in the browser or on command line, for the file?
21:20 phlunk3 okay stupid question maybe I just made my dump wrong, but I dumped the whole database including tables and try to import that to an empty database and am getting "ERROR 1452 (23000) at line 859456: Cannot add or update a child row: a foreign key constraint fails" anyone knows how to solve this issue so I can migrate data from one install to the other? if not I can try doing a data only export but then I will have probs that the base data is set from the i
21:20 phlunk3 nstallation.
21:21 cait phlunk3: sorry, not sure what is the problem there
21:22 cait mysqldump -u<user> -p <database> >dump_xxx.sql
21:22 cait is what I normally do
21:22 cait and then mysql -u<user> -p <database> <dump_xxx.sql to load it
21:22 cait that worked without problems so far
21:23 cait libsysguy: still around?
21:23 libsysguy yeah
21:23 cait I think what I would do is kill the branch you have applied the patches too and try testing the qa branch from the repository
21:23 libsysguy i got an error
21:24 libsysguy fatal: git checkout: updating paths is incompatible with switching branches.
21:24 libsysguy Did you intend to checkout 'new/awaiting_qa/bug_5549' which can not be resolved as commit?
21:24 cait like?
21:24 libsysguy ^^
21:24 cait sorry... the chat scrolling is broken again
21:24 libsysguy oh noes
21:24 cait irritating
21:24 libsysguy indeed
21:24 cait hm
21:24 phlunk3 will try making a new dump maybe something went wrong there
21:25 libsysguy when you updated did you drop the old database?
21:25 libsysguy phlunk3
21:25 jcamins_away libsysguy: did you remember to include the remote in there? e.g. kc/new/awaiting_qa/bug_5549?
21:25 cait libsysguy: git checkout -b yournewbranch remotebranch should work
21:25 cait ah
21:26 cait tht might be it
21:26 cait although my wiki cheat sheet does not have the remote part, for the main repo
21:30 phlunk3 yeah I dropped the old db libsysguy
21:30 libsysguy hmm
21:31 wizzyrea fining interval - does it do something weird? my peeps tell me that on a *new* rule, having a fining interval extends the circ period by the number in fining interval?!
21:31 wizzyrea but
21:31 wizzyrea rules dating back before our last upgrade to head, have fining intervals, and their circ periods are just fine?!
21:37 cait hm
21:37 cait wizzyrea: how high is the fining interval?
21:37 wizzyrea like, 1
21:37 cait yeah
21:37 cait it's true
21:37 cait means probably an implicit grace period of 1
21:37 cait I have 7
21:37 libsysguy jcamins_away: i think i missed something
21:38 cait which means that the first fine is added 7 days after due date
21:38 libsysguy i did git remote add hourly http://git.catalyst.net.nz/gw?p=koha.git;a=shortlog;h=refs/heads/\
21:38 libsysguy bug_5549
21:38 cait so what they tell you sounds reasonable
21:38 libsysguy oops
21:38 wizzyrea but actually moving the due date?
21:38 libsysguy then git checkout -b bug_5549 hourly/new/awaiting_qa/bug_5549
21:38 cait libsysguy: it#s on the normal repo
21:38 wizzyrea doesn't that seem odd?
21:38 cait yes
21:38 wizzyrea seems like it shouldn't do that
21:38 cait it's annoying big time
21:38 wizzyrea but the old rules aren't doing that!?
21:38 cait they always did
21:39 cait for the 7 days thing at least
21:39 cait we are running 3.2.2 right now and it's like that there
21:39 cait I have an open bug for it
21:39 wizzyrea the due date is offset by the number in the db table 'chargeperiod'
21:39 wizzyrea ?
21:39 cait ah
21:39 jcamins_away libsysguy: it sounds like your remote might already include the path? Maybe git checkout -b bug_5549 hourly
21:39 cait not the duedate no
21:39 cait only the day when the first fine is set
21:39 jcamins_away libsysguy: just guessing.
21:40 cait sorry, perhaps i misunderstood
21:40 libsysguy i keep getting this error:
21:40 jcamins_away libsysguy: I'm currently working on a book project, so I'm only looking every so often.
21:40 cait jcamins_away: libsysguy: it's on the normal repo, not catalyst
21:40 libsysguy fatal: git checkout: updating paths is incompatible with switching branches.
21:40 wahanui i already had it that way, libsysguy.
21:40 libsysguy Did you intend to checkout 'hourly' which can not be resolved as commit?
21:40 jcamins_away libsysguy: okay, try this:
21:40 cait so I think you don#t have to add a new remote repo
21:40 jcamins_away git checkout -b bug_5549 master/new/awaiting_qa/bug_5549
21:41 wizzyrea i'm going to make him recreate it
21:41 cait wizzyrea: sorry for causing confusion
21:41 libsysguy same error jcamins
21:41 wizzyrea because that just seems ludicrous; it wouldn't treat some rules different than others, just because of their age
21:41 wizzyrea no no, it's fine
21:41 cait libsysguy: what dos your git remote show look like?
21:41 jcamins_away libsysguy: hm. Out of ideas, then.
21:41 libsysguy haha
21:41 libsysguy i wonder if i can delete that remote branch
21:42 wizzyrea because it doesn't have a mechanism that I can see by which 'old' rules would be different from 'new rules
21:42 cait wizzyrea: yea, changng the due_date sounds odd
21:42 phlunk3 okay I managed to import my database from a new dump without a hitch, but upon logging in I see only this error: Template process failed: file error - doc-head-open.inc: not found at /usr/share/koha/lib/C4/Templates.pm line 119. any ideas?
21:43 cait have you installed Template::Toolkit?
21:43 cait         T::T?
21:43 wahanui T::T is, like, Template::Toolkit, the templating system Koha uses starting with version 3.4
21:43 phlunk3 ahh no I have only installed the requirements for the package install. Can you tell me how to install this?
21:43 cait thought wahanui would tell :)
21:43 cait which os are you using?
21:43 phlunk3 ubuntu
21:44 jcamins_away wahanui: T::T is also installed by running apt-get install libtemplate-perl
21:44 wahanui okay, jcamins_away.
21:45 cait you have to install this and also run a script
21:45 cait to remove your items from the xml, it's in the release notes
21:46 Phlunk sorry something happened, other irc client crashed. do u know what script I need to run? as it seems the package is already installed and up to date.
21:48 cait hm
21:48 cait jcamins_away: any idea about hte error?
21:49 cait oh
21:49 jcamins_away cait: none, sorry.
21:49 cait have you other languages installed
21:49 cait ?
21:49 Phlunk no, or at least only what was installed with the base package.
21:49 cait ok, so you use the normal english templates?
21:49 Phlunk read online that it can be that the system is set to use a language not installed.
21:49 jcamins_away Phlunk: wait, you're on a package install?
21:49 cait oh
21:49 cait right
21:49 Phlunk yes this was with a package installation.
21:50 Phlunk which worked np
21:50 Phlunk then I moved the database over.
21:50 Phlunk so it can be that they had some other language selected, but I am not sure where to see this in the database.
21:55 Phlunk | language | en-NZ | | Set the default language in the staff client. | Languages |
21:55 Phlunk do I need to install a special template pack for en-NZ somehow?
21:56 cait that will not work with the templates right now
21:56 cait is that line from your systempreferences?
21:57 cait table?
21:57 Phlunk yes, I updated it to en-EN now and it is now showing an installer screen.
21:57 cait ok, that will not work with the packages right now, only en will work afaik
21:57 cait great
21:57 cait :)
21:57 Phlunk no not great :P I dont want to install it again, I just want it to use the data that I pushed to the database right? or will this run some migration scripts?
21:58 cait it will update the database
21:58 Phlunk cool I shall give it a go ;) if I can just remember the password I chose lol
21:58 cait if not
21:58 cait it's in your xml file
21:58 cait the koha_conf xml thing
21:59 Phlunk hehe I know :)
21:59 cait it should ask you about updates and run them, normally all should be ok after that
21:59 Phlunk We are upgrading from Koha 3.00.05.003 to 3.04.02.000, you must update your database omg looks good, thanks heaps guys you've been a big help so far.
22:00 cait cool
22:00 cait remember to run the script to remove the items
22:00 cait I think there might be a command in the packages to do this
22:00 Phlunk which script? :S
22:01 cait hm
22:02 Phlunk okay I have another issue, the update all seemed to go fine, but it pushes me through to the domain from the old server. is this stored in the db somewhere?
