02:00 Space_Librarian o/
02:04 mtj                   folks, i have a dumb Q about testing for perl eval{}
02:04 mtj i have a SIP telnet loop, that looks like its auth-ing OK
02:05 mtj but the auth is wrapped in an eval, thats returning ''
02:05 mtj which doesnt quite look right...
02:06 rangi http://perldoc.perl.org/functions/eval.html
02:06 mtj line 230 of SIPServer.pm
02:06 rangi eval will be undef
02:06 rangi unless an error occured
02:06 mtj http://git.koha-community.org/cgi-bin/gitweb.cgi?p=koha.git;a=blob;f=C4/SIP/SIPServer.pm;h=c6de11e46442778b105e58a1be631bbb48e5736d;hb=HEAD#l230
02:10 rangi yeah thats kinda flawed
02:10 rangi because if you get the password wrong 3 times
02:10 rangi you wont get an error that eval traps
02:10 rangi and you wont be logged in
02:10 rangi but it will tell you you are
02:11 rangi from a cursory read (which is all i have time for at the mo)
02:12 mtj yeah, i might have to do some experimenting
02:13 mtj i switched from a sockets, to a telnet setup - coz i found this successfult writeup for telnet
02:13 mtj http://lclpioneer.wordpress.com/2011/05/02/getting-a-3m-self-check-to-work-with-koha/
02:13 rangi pioneer dont use koha
02:13 mtj and the EXPECT stuff is almost working, apart from this little bug
02:14 rangi but i dont think the sip has diverged that much
02:26 mtj ah, ok - i'll send bywater/nelks an email then
02:26 mtj .. and get some some SIP info from them
02:26 rangi cool
02:36 Brooke 0/

02:41 wahanui i guess the question is of indexing authority records in Zebra as MARCXML instead of ISO2709.

06:26 eythian OK, so using bulkmarcimport from 3.2 will apparently not work on 3.4. At least, I hope that's my issue.

06:32 Oak hello reiveune :)
06:32 reiveune hi Oak
06:42 eythian anyone know why I can merge a remote branch into one of mine just fine, but when I do a rebase against that same branch (in order to get all my commits at the top) I get a huge number of conflicts?
06:43 eythian that doesn't make sense with the way I think git works
06:45 eythian It's not even my code that's conflicting, it seems to be things in 3.2.x conflicting against each other, which makes less sense.

07:42 eythian with the new splitting of items from biblios, where do the items marc fragments go?
07:44 eythian it's not in biblioitems, which is expected, but I can't see it in items, either
07:45 rangi only the bits that arent mapped go
07:45 rangi the marc is generated on the fly from the items table for the rest of it
07:45 eythian ah right, that's OK then
07:45 eythian I was concerned because I wasn't seeing it there.
07:46 rangi yeah its just the columns in there
07:47 rangi and then whatever is in more_subfields_xml
07:47 rangi for ones that arent mapped
07:47 eythian cool
07:47 eythian anyway, I'm going to leave an import running and head to the movies. All going well it'll be happy tomorrow morning (already looking promising in a quick test, not spewing errors everywhere)

20:12 rangi you will love it :)
20:12 * Agent_Dani observed it when visiting the side of her family that is from AL, FL, and GA.
20:14 rangi Agent_Dani: where are you from? (my wife is from pittsburgh)
20:16 Agent_Dani I grew-up north of Scranton, PA, but now reside in Durham, NC.
20:17 talljoy Install question--> I am attempting a Koha install on CentOS 5.5. Has someone successfully done this? I (and the IT guy) are struggling with this. I would like to find a resource of assistance or advice about abandoning all hope and switching to Debian.
20:20 rangi ahh
20:21 rangi im sure its been done
20:21 rangi but not sure its been documented anywhere
20:21 talljoy my opinion is that if Debian is easiest and is free and CentOS is free and difficult. Why not just use Debian.
20:21 rangi :)
20:22 rangi debian we do have packages for, so is becoming easier all the time, and we do make an effort to make sure all dependencies are in debian
20:22 rangi i would *love* someone to make rpm packages too
20:22 rangi but I dont have that skillset
20:24 rangi for centos, i suspect you would have to install a lot of the perl modules from cpan
20:24 rangi and i think getting zebra going might be the trickiest bit
20:33 talljoy sorry phone call..
20:33 talljoy i did install alot through CPAN
20:33 talljoy and I had a FAIL at zebra so far
20:34 rangi hmm lemme check something
20:34 talljoy It has come down to how much I want to invest in this endeavor when easier options exist and there is no pressing reason for using CentOS
20:35 rangi http://ftp.indexdata.dk/pub/zebra/redhat/centos/5.5/RPMS/x86_64/
20:35 rangi those any use?
20:35 talljoy I got that.
20:35 talljoy i had problems installing them
20:35 rangi ahh, you are running 64 bit?
20:35 talljoy i threw it back into the IT guy (we contract for IT support)
20:35 rangi fair enough
20:36 talljoy he set up a virtual server for me and I expect him to full his fair share. ;-)
20:36 talljoy that's a good questions....not sure if it's 64 bit
20:37 talljoy While I wait for him, I'm going to go and work on my 'ancient laptop' with Debian and Koha running smoothly.
20:39 rangi :)
20:46 schuster Sorry... I was investigating... I must not have been with you that night - maybe Los Cucos there having fried avocados a mexican restaurant?
20:48 schuster Ah yes I read back and see you figured it out! Ah yes those were the days...
20:52 rangi :)
20:52 rangi heya cait
20:53 cait hi rangi :)
20:53 cait had a crazy day
20:53 Agent_Dani You too? I'm sorry.
20:53 cait ah, crazy but good
20:54 Agent_Dani Oh, other sort of crazy than what I had.
20:54 cait oh
20:54 cait I am sorry
21:12 pianohacker Buenas tardes
21:14 skushner Anybody install lenny anymore?
21:15 pianohacker Don't really think there's any reason to
21:24 Space_Librarian morning #koha. TGIF! :)
21:25 pianohacker curse you international date line
21:26 talljoy sigh
21:26 talljoy soon....
21:26 pianohacker hello, talljoy
21:26 pianohacker don't believe we've met
21:26 talljoy hi.
21:27 talljoy don't believe so. pleased to meet you
21:28 pianohacker *internet handshake*
21:28 talljoy :-)
21:30 talljoy I have a cataloging framework question....I have a client who is not keen on the 'tab' format of the cataloging frameworks. She wants all the fields she uses to be on one tab. I can do this in the marc_subfield_structure table successfully. Am I causing problems with how Koha operates by doing so? (I think no, but thought I should ask)
21:33 pianohacker talljoy: No, I did the same thing for my old library. Just make sure that all of the item subfields stay on tab 10
21:34 talljoy you mean all the ones they don't want? those stay on tab 10?
21:35 talljoy or put all the ones they want to use on tab 10?
21:36 pianohacker Sorry, let me explain
21:36 pianohacker It would probably be best to put everything on tab 0
21:36 talljoy yes. that make sense. thanks
21:37 pianohacker If you put the item subfields (MARC field 952) on tab 10, however, it breaks koha
21:37 talljoy noted.
21:37 pianohacker Sorry, if you move them _off_ of tab 10, it breaks koha
21:38 talljoy forgot first. noted second. ;-)
21:39 pianohacker good! My hands got a bit ahead of my brain there
21:51 rangi talljoy: pianohacker still holds the record for youngest person to get a patch into koha
21:52 talljoy really now. and at what age was that?
21:52 rangi pianohacker: 16 .. or 17?
21:52 pianohacker hrm
21:52 talljoy wow. quite impressive.
21:53 talljoy i hesitate to mention what I was doing at 16
21:53 rangi he is very impressive :)
21:53 pianohacker I think 16
21:53 rangi 2008-07-10
21:53 wahanui 1991
21:53 pianohacker Thank you
21:53 talljoy my activities at 16 involved 5 1/4 diskettes.
21:53 ibeardslee rangi: the academy students were older?
21:53 rangi yeah
21:54 ibeardslee damn .. there were a couple of younger people there
21:54 rangi yeah the drupal group had them
21:54 ibeardslee but they seemed to have the attitude of 'perl wtf'
21:54 rangi they had a 15 year old
21:54 pianohacker talljoy: Those things were a bit before my time, but kind of cool. The only floppy disks I ever dealt with were cheap, unreliable ones from when they were starting to die out
21:54 talljoy I still have the floppies. I slice them, pull out the innards and use them to hold CDs and DVDs.
21:54 talljoy ah, nostalgia
21:55 pianohacker were they always so unreliable? I swear every other disk would randomly lose any date put on it
21:55 pianohacker *data
21:56 pianohacker (those do sound like really cool cd cases)
21:56 talljoy we were thrilled to have portable data! data loss was acceptable
21:56 talljoy heh
21:56 pianohacker           flash_drives++
21:56 talljoy talk about data loss...I used to color on my dad's punch cards when he was in graduate school.
21:56 pianohacker hahahaha
21:56 talljoy it took him a while to put his doctoral thesis back together
21:56 pianohacker "but dad, look, it comes with lines!"
21:57 talljoy and cool holes.
21:57 pianohacker oh, yeah
21:57 talljoy good times.
21:58 rangi heh
