03:12 ibeardslee rangi: have you heard much more from John about carrying on his work?
03:13 rangi nope
03:15 * ibeardslee makes a note in his diary to flick an email to all academy people asking how they are going .. beginning of Marcg
03:15 rangi good plan
03:34 * druthb waves to wizzyrea_

03:34 druthb doin good!
03:35 druthb had dinner with one of my favorite Koha people...never ever dull...
03:35 wizzyrea_ hi thar, I'm liz from NEKLS... this server change has gotten me all confusticated as to who's who
03:35 wizzyrea_ hehe nice druthb
03:35 hudsonbot Project Koha_Master build #366: SUCCESS in 23 min: http://hudson.koha-community.org/job/Koha_Master/366/

03:36 rangi wizzyrea_: space_librarian is a new hire at catalyst .. second week eh space_librarian ?
03:36 wizzyrea_ oh nice! lucky duck :)
03:36 space_librarian yes, and still surviving...
03:36 space_librarian :)
03:37 * wizzyrea_ imagines a mashup of carl sagan and marian the librarian, giggles
03:37 ibeardslee you've seen the staff photo too?
03:37 wizzyrea_ O.O lol
03:37 space_librarian oi!
03:37 wizzyrea_ pic or it didn't happen ;)
03:39 eythian http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m1240899_99060101339_SMLibrarianstaffandbookmain_445x319.jpg <-- you can tell because of the book
03:40 wizzyrea_ lol
03:40 space_librarian damn. That's a cleric not to be messed with.
03:41 * eythian kicks off a migration script, all going well this'll be perfect and I can relax.
03:42 space_librarian you're tempting Murphy again.
03:42 wizzyrea_ we try not to feed murphy here
03:42 druthb I usually plan for all of my migrations to be near-disasters. That way I can be happy when they are not.
03:43 wizzyrea_ ^^ does the same (not with migrations per se, with most of her projects)
03:43 eythian you people are such pessimists.
03:43 wizzyrea_ realist?
03:43 eythian cynic.
03:43 druthb no, just been in the biz too long for idealism.
03:44 rangi without idealism koha wouldnt exist :)
03:44 wizzyrea_ ^^
03:44 * druthb chuckles.
03:45 druthb I have plenty of idealism about Koha. But not about migrations. It'd be easy 'cept for all these screwy librarians doing nasty things to poor helpless data.
03:45 space_librarian pragmatists!
03:45 * wizzyrea_ has lots of helpless data
03:45 eythian that is definitely an issue.
03:45 * eythian shakes fist at librarians.
03:45 space_librarian poor, helpless data
03:45 wizzyrea_ though... i'm pretty sure it wasn't my librarians who messed it up >.>
03:45 druthb yes, you do, wizzyrea_ . You guys are bonkers, but I loves ya.
03:46 wizzyrea_ i'm going to tell them that they're bonkers tomorrow
03:46 druthb :)
03:46 eythian oh hey. I think that run worked.
03:46 * eythian prepares to load up the staging server.
03:46 * space_librarian crosses fingers
03:46 * wizzyrea_ ponders the fact that she has 33 libraries, and at least double that many librarians adding things every day
03:46 wizzyrea_ you're right, we're bonkers.
03:47 space_librarian but it's so much fun!
03:47 * space_librarian looks at the koha propaganda she's writing...
03:49 space_librarian Actually, is it propaganda if it's the truth?
03:49 eythian I think so, yes
03:49 wizzyrea_ well, yes, I think so
03:49 ibeardslee depends if you've won the war or not
03:49 space_librarian Are we winning?
03:49 wizzyrea_ yea, don't be like the iraqi information minister
03:50 space_librarian lol
03:50 rangi we won 2 years ago, its just taking a long time for the others to realise that
03:50 ibeardslee heh
03:50 space_librarian but of course. Nobody else got the memo.
03:53 eythian Query OK, 0 rows affected (1 min 4.83 sec)
03:53 eythian you do lie so, mysql.
03:54 space_librarian problem?
03:54 wahanui rumour has it problem is he will even be able to check the item out again if there is a reserve (using selfcheck)
03:54 eythian no, '0 rows affected' when it had just spend a minute deleting 70,000 of them.
03:54 * druthb pokes wahanui
03:54 eythian oh bother. They have duplicate barcodes.
03:55 space_librarian What did I say about tempting Murphy?
03:55 eythian hey, this isn't my problem, per se.
03:57 Brooke_ kia ora
03:57 eythian hola!
03:57 space_librarian kia ora
03:57 * wizzyrea_ waves at brooke
03:58 rangi so today is SCLS big day eh?
03:58 rangi http://scls.typepad.com/link2koha/migration-events.html
03:58 druthb [off] beg to doubt.
03:59 rangi [off] yeah i was being mean http://www.scls.info/
04:00 rangi [off] still dynix afaict
04:01 druthb [off] b'zacly!
04:15 eythian 81531 MARC records done in 1220.90409493446 seconds
04:15 eythian yay :)
04:15 rangi eek, i better get out of here
04:15 * rangi looks at the time
04:15 eythian yeah, you'll miss your train
04:16 eythian bus rather
04:16 wizzyrea_ go go
04:16 eythian or it'll break down
04:16 druthb I'm headed to bed, gang. see you soon.
04:16 wizzyrea_ later :)
04:17 Brooke_ bah, sleep is an addiction that can be cured.
04:18 space_librarian and I shall bid you all adieu too...
04:21 Brooke_ Excellent, now that all the important types are gone, Robin and I can finally open our tawdry discothèque
04:21 wizzyrea_ !!
04:21 eythian Brooke_: yay!
04:21 space_librarian I came back at the wrong time...
04:21 eythian or the _right_ time?!
04:22 Brooke_ :D
04:22 space_librarian true.
04:22 wizzyrea_ oh that's what I was going to say!
04:22 wizzyrea_ I wasn't fast enough >.>
04:22 * space_librarian finds the mirror ball
04:22 * wizzyrea_ looks for the heeled shoes
04:23 eythian conveniently, there's already a blinking floor here.
04:23 Brooke_ surely it is what Mr. Christie intended.
04:24 eythian I have no doubt.
04:25 eythian 2193 duplicate barcodes. I'm willing to bet that's Liberty vomit.
04:25 Brooke_ oof
04:25 space_librarian yep.
04:32 * wizzyrea_ yawns
04:33 Brooke_ oof not you too
04:36 * eythian cranks the Devin Townsend in order to keep motivated for the next hour.
04:39 eythian http://rpsbattle.com/aboutrules/ <-- what a curious idea
04:42 Brooke_ hehehe
04:43 Brooke_ clearly it is your solemn duty to represent paper in Jo's name.
04:44 eythian hehe
04:45 space_librarian I'm tempted. Just for kicks...
04:46 space_librarian Nope. Men's medium. No go.
04:47 eythian that does seem like an odd restriction
04:50 space_librarian And now I'm going. For real. Keep on dancing...
04:52 Brooke_ cheers
04:52 * Brooke_ is heading off to level her WoW alt...
06:18 snail evening all
06:36 rangi hi snail
06:57 francharb hi all
07:32 magnuse kia ora #koha
08:06 kf good morning #koha
08:13 magnuse guten morgen kf
08:14 kf hi magnuse :)
08:15 hdl hi all
08:17 magnuse bonjour hdl
08:18 kf hi hdl
08:36 rangi hmmm, we need a bywater person or gmcharlt
08:41 paul_p bonjour l'europe. Sweet dreams oceania & america !
08:50 magnuse wassup rangi?
08:50 rangi git
08:50 rangi its been up and down over the last day, currently down
08:50 magnuse ah
08:55 magnuse lazy americans, asleep when we need them... ;-)
08:57 magnuse btw, where does one apply for admin rights on the wiki? i'd like to help fight spam if i may...
08:59 rangi ahh i think i can do that, whats your username?
09:00 magnuse just Magnus
09:02 slef rangi: it is close to the border-line, but I think a small RM sponsorship note would be OK. Possibly newsletter for now, then note the sponsorship if/when you're appointed as 3.6 RM at next IRC general meeting?
09:04 slef And is there no way to test wiki pages for spamminess and hold dubious ones (like if ((links-to-other-wiki-pages < 2) and (back-links < 2) and (off-site-links > 0)) then hold for moderation)?
09:05 paul_p slef, very good idea ! (the moderation for wiki permissions)
09:05 rangi magnuse: ahh i cant, but i think paul can
09:06 rangi slef: i have no idea, im sure there probably is
09:06 paul_p we are a small wiki, with most contributors being long-time contributor, so putting some limits to creating pages is OK I think. Or we could add a full moderation = be able to write only after having written somethin on koha-devel or sent a mail to wiki admins.
09:07 paul_p rangi & magnuse = looking to see if I can give you erms
09:08 slef paul_p: barriers to entry hinder community growth. By-page moderation would be better.
09:09 magnuse rangi & paul_p: looks like a Bureaucrat is needed...
09:09 paul_p rangi, & magnuse = I have your user page Magnus, but can't see where I can give you admin perms
09:09 rangi yep i have admin, but not bureaucrat
09:10 rangi ahh same with paul
09:10 rangi thd, gmcharlt or nengard can do it
09:10 magnuse yup, i better wait for the americans (again with the americans! ;-)
09:11 magnuse thanks for trying
09:12 slef global power distribution #fail :)
09:15 slef mtj: are you there?
09:38 kf do we have the planned dates for 3.4 somewhere?
09:39 rangi planned dates for what?
09:39 kf feature freeze/string freeze?
09:39 rangi they arent planned
09:39 kf ah
09:39 kf ok, I thought we had talked about them on one meeting, but can't find my notes
09:39 rangi yeah, we discussed them, nothing set in stone tho
09:39 rangi depends how march goes
09:40 rangi most likely feature freeze end of march string freeze on the 8th of april
09:41 kf ok
09:41 kf thx rangi
10:30 kf hm the filter on the overdues report are acting strange
11:16 gmcharlt magnus_lunch: what is your wiki username?
11:33 magnus_lunch gmcharlt: plain ol' Magnus
11:33 * druthb thinks magnus is neither plain nor ol'.
11:34 * kf agrees
11:49 gmcharlt magnus_lunch: cool, you're now a plain ol' wiki administrator ;)
11:57 magnuse gmcharlt: thanks, i'll weild my powers carefully!
11:58 druthb            magnus++
12:02 kf                magnuse++
12:02 kf this additional e is irritating me
12:02 magnuse ooh, thanks
12:02 magnuse sorry, plain ol' magnus was taken by someone else
12:03 druthb            magnuse++
12:03 kf magnuse: we should find that person...
12:04 magnuse ;-)
12:09 magnuse rangi was looking for someone earlier to have a look at Le Git...
12:11 gmcharlt magnuse: what's up?
12:11 * druthb thinks "release early, release often" is a good thing....Except that if Terry Reese puts out *another* MarcEdit bundle this week, I'm gonna have to go after him with a big stick.
12:11 liw large irc networks tend to have a lot of people wanting the same names -- I'm lucky that my preferred nick is _usually_ not taken
12:11 druthb mornin, nengard. :)
12:11 magnuse gmcharlt: or rather, what's down... i can't get a response from it...
12:11 nengard morning
12:12 magnuse hiya nengard
12:12 magnuse gmcharlt: rangi said "its been up and down over the last day, currently down"
12:12 nengard woo hoo : http://www.facebook.com/101ftb/posts/10150100341493234
12:13 * druthb hasn't won a dern thing from them yet.
12:13 magnuse congrats :-)
12:14 gmcharlt magnuse: indeed. I can't SSH in to the server, so can't do anything myself
12:14 * gmcharlt floats the sekjal-druthb-et-al bat signal
12:15 * druthb will kick it...sec.
12:15 jcamins Good morning, #koha
12:15 magnuse is it a plane? is it a bird? no, it's.... bywater!
12:15 nengard :)
12:19 druthb should be up now!

12:22 magnuse druthb: works for me, thanks! (but the web interface is slow, it shows the links to the stats and then waits a looong time to display the links to the repos...)
12:24 druthb hm. hmhmhm..wonder what's goin on there..
12:27 * jcamins goes to feed his sourdough starter before getting his day completely started.
12:28 magnuse jcamins: say hi to it from us! ;-)
12:32 druthb When the sourdough starter answers back, you'll know it's a little *too* ready.
12:32 jwagner druthb, maybe the sourdough just doesn't want to disappoint its fans?
12:33 druthb Possibly, jwagner, but just like the Nats.... :P
12:33 jwagner Hey! Spring training has just started!!! Let us have at least some time to enjoy the prospect of a great season before cold cruel reality sets in....
12:34 druthb hee hee
12:35 * druthb heard a Cubs fan once say, "yeah, the Cubs will suck again this year, but that's okay, I'll still go."
12:35 jwagner I'm going to make a bold prediction that the Nats will _not_ finish at the bottom of the National League East this year. I didn't say they'd finish at the top, mind you....
12:35 nengard is git still not working?
12:35 * druthb likes the hard-boiled realism of Cubs fans like that.

12:36 nengard hmmm
12:36 nengard trying again
12:36 nengard website is working, but fetch keeps timing out

12:43 druthb wahanui: sourdough?
12:43 wahanui sourdough is probably my friend!

12:58 jcamins The sourdough says hi.
12:58 jcamins It's growing up to be big and strong. :)
12:58 jwagner Awwww. How sweet! (or sour?)
13:00 magnuse does it (he? she?) have a name?
13:00 jcamins It's very exciting. My pseudo-sourdough on Sunday was a great success and I look forward to another pseudo-sourdough today, and in a week or two I'll be able to make real sourdough bread! :)
13:00 jcamins magnuse: not yet.

13:32 jcamins paul_p: I go back and forth on whether I want a bread machine or not.
13:34 paul_p jcamins, the bread machine is wonderfull to do the knead the dough. And awful to bake. I use it only for knead !
13:36 paul_p before going to bed = put the water & the flour & any specific flavour, program to be finished at 6:30AM. Wake up, get the dough & shape the loaf. Put it into the oven that you've heated just 3mn, got to bathroom, put clothes, shave your beard, wake up childrens, and you can bake the bread, it's ready (set the oven to "hot" ;-) )
13:37 paul_p just before leaving to school with childrens, the bread is ready ! (although too hot to be eaten, but it's perfect for lunch/dinner !)
13:37 jcamins Ooh, I like the idea of a bread machine with a timer!
13:37 * jcamins didn't realize they had fancy bread machines that did that.
13:39 oleonard Oh you bet, that's not even a new feature.
13:40 druthb mine has a timer. I don't use it very often...hmmm.
13:40 jcamins druthb: you have a bread machine, and you don't use it?!? Sacrilege!
13:43 * jwagner has a bread machine and doesn't use it
13:44 jcamins Sacrilege!
13:44 druthb hm.... got a hungry for a good easy bread...wonder if I have everything I need for it.
13:45 jcamins Later this morning I am going to be kneading *by hand*... uhhhh... 2 kilos of bread, and you have bread machines sitting unused.
13:45 * jcamins shakes his head dolefully.
13:45 jwagner jcamins, want mine?
13:45 jcamins What is this world coming to?
13:46 jcamins jwagner: half the fun is kneading by hand. Also, I live in NYC and even in my beautiful big new kitchen there's no space.
13:46 jwagner I just don't eat that much bread, and a loaf goes stale.
13:46 kf I think even a bread machine can not knead 2kg of bread dough
13:46 jcamins kf: it can if you get a mixer that stands on the floor!
13:46 kf the ones I saw around here where rather small
13:50 jcamins kf: the ones that will bake the bread are limited to 2lbs, but you can get a bread machine that just does the kneading.
13:53 jcamins I guess the large ones are just called "mixers."
13:53 druthb cleverly-named devices.
13:54 jcamins druthb: yeah yeah yeah. My mother's "bread machine" would now be termed a mixer, so my confusion is understandable, I think.
13:58 * oleonard visited a chocolate factory yesterday
13:58 magnuse ooh, chocolate...
13:59 oleonard Their motto was "We eat all we can and sell the rest"
13:59 magnuse hehe
13:59 magnuse who can give pootle a cick?
14:00 hdl fredericd iirc
14:01 * oleonard wonders how widely known "Buckeye" candies are http://www.anthony-thomas.com/shop/buckeyes/cat_3.html
14:16 magnuse yeah
14:42 oleonard On some pages Koha adds a special parser to the jQuery table sorter to exclude English articles ("the|an|a")
14:43 oleonard Should we add a system preference for that for other languages?
14:44 oleonard          (<!-- TMPL_VAR NAME="articles" -->)
14:44 oleonard Doesn't this kind of sorting cause problems for French titles paul_p?
14:45 sekjal oleonard: making it pref controlled would allow for more than just articles... full stop-words lists could be configured
14:45 paul_p oleonard, yep, although no-one reported it until now !
14:45 paul_p I just discover this here thx to you !
14:45 paul_p            oleonard++
14:45 paul_p (once again...)
14:46 jcamins What would happen if 942c were blank in every record?
14:46 oleonard sekjal: How might one want to expand it past articles?
14:46 sekjal oleonard: if the contents of the system preference was like BorrowersTitles, any set of words in any language could be added
14:47 oleonard yes, that is what I'm proposing
14:48 sekjal academics may want "Journal of" added to that non-sorting list, for example
14:48 magnuse hm, that functionality seems "dangerous" in a multi lingual catalogue... you want to exclude "the", but then tea is spelled "the" in some language etc
14:48 magnuse but anyway, letting individual libraries set it the way they want sounds like a good idea!
14:49 jwagner jcamins, if 942c is blank, and there are still places that check that (which there are), they'll use the first itype in your list
14:49 jwagner At least, that's my experience.
14:50 oleonard We should chase down those places in the code. Choosing the first itype in the list doesn't sound correct
14:51 jwagner I agree. Those old fragments cause me more grief than almost anything :-(
14:52 sekjal It seems to me that Koha should try for items.itype first, then fall back to biblioitems.itemtype if no item-level type is found, then give a warning if that's blank
14:52 sekjal for biblios with many, many items, it would be a quick way to set a global default item type for them in a single place
14:52 jwagner And maybe, if an item record is created, populate biblioitems.itemtype (i.e., 942c) from that item?
14:52 jwagner Right now, you have to actively set it.
16:11 * jcamins was just accosted by bread dough when he wandered into the kitchen to heat some water for tea.
16:11 jcamins It has tripled in size in the last hour.
16:12 rhcl sourdough?

16:21 jcamins This is the yeast bread I made with the half of my starter that was due to be discarded.
16:22 rhcl yea, you just want to keep your secret formula :)

16:23 kf oh sorry
16:23 kf was tracking down one of my coworkers :)
16:24 kf oleonard: have you ever tried mailto: links with a body in reports?
16:25 oleonard kf: No, I actually seldom use guided reports. Usually I write custom report pages for our intranet in PHP
16:25 kf ah
16:25 kf ok, I only thought you might have perhaps had a similar idea beofre
16:25 kf I am having trouble with the diacritics
16:27 wizzyrea rhcl and I have come up with a compelling reason to keep the notices tab and ditch the messaging tab
16:27 wizzyrea in the patron detail
16:29 sekjal wizzyrea and rhcl: go on
16:29 wizzyrea sekjal you probably already have an idea about this
16:29 wizzyrea actually
16:29 wahanui rumour has it actually is since there are more regula updates
16:29 druthb wahanui: forget actually
16:29 wahanui druthb: I forgot actually
16:30 wizzyrea add a way to print or send those notices again
16:30 wizzyrea just a column with a link to print/resend
16:30 wizzyrea "on demand" would probably be your keyword
16:31 wizzyrea well a column with 2 options: one to print, one to re-send
16:32 rhcl yea, what she sez
16:34 wizzyrea we're obviously keeping the data that was in the notices
16:34 wizzyrea why not be able to use it?
16:38 kf wizzyrea: I am all for that, but I am still for combining both tabs and a nicer layout for the message
16:38 kf :)
16:38 kf and I am not sure both show all messages
16:38 wizzyrea well
16:38 wizzyrea what if
16:38 kf I also want to see the hold messages and check-out checkin
16:38 wizzyrea we kept the notices format for the list
16:38 wizzyrea and added the print/resend
16:38 kf yep
16:38 wizzyrea to see the message you would click print
16:38 kf or a pop up with formatted message
16:38 wizzyrea and it would be purty
16:39 kf                wizzyrea++
16:39 kf wizzyrea: the only problem is print notices
16:39 kf they don't show up at the moment, because it's one line in the message_queue table
16:40 rhcl nengard should have been on chat for the last 10 minutes discussion :)
16:40 wizzyrea it's logged :)
16:40 nengard was busy training new koha librarians
16:41 nengard what was the discussion (general topic)? documentation stuff?
16:41 wizzyrea well maybe it would be good to have all messages indicated here
16:41 wizzyrea in the messaging tab
16:41 wizzyrea or notices, whichever you choose
16:41 wizzyrea even ones that are for print
16:42 nengard read the log
16:43 nengard good ideas
16:43 wizzyrea is there a bug or rfc for this?
16:43 wizzyrea a birdie told me that on demand notices might already be in the works
16:44 rhcl Ima duck
16:44 nengard sekjal was writing up a spec - so there is no rfc yet cause he's still talking to people about what they want
16:44 wizzyrea cool beans
16:47 * jcamins pictures rhcl running around shouting "I'm a seagull."
16:47 wizzyrea bald eagle, probably, we have more of those here.
16:47 wizzyrea we do get the occasional lost seagull
16:48 kf umlauts--
16:48 kf diacritics--
16:48 jcamins (well, actually, rhcl is shouting "Ia chaika," but let's not get technical)
16:50 kf bye all
16:51 jcamins kf: wait! Don't go! Diacritics aren't so dire that you must make this final, irrevokable step.
16:51 jcamins *irrevocable?
16:51 druthb lol
16:51 kf lol
16:51 kf I don't - only running away
16:58 rhcl isn't "chaika" russian for seagull? ...gonna check google
16:59 rhcl yes: chaĭka
16:59 jcamins rhcl: yep.
17:19 nengard US people - do you like Borders? Well they're closing a bunch of stores! including mine :( http://on.wsj.com/iaMoaR
17:20 jcamins nengard: I don't think there are any Borders stores in New York.
17:20 jcamins If there are, I've never seen them.
17:20 jcamins B & N, on the other hand, is ubiquitous.
17:21 jcamins Oh, apparently there are a few in NYC.
17:21 wizzyrea I never liked our borders
17:22 * oleonard 's nearest Borders is spared
17:22 oleonard jcamins: According to the list, NYC has two which are closing
17:22 oleonard Probably because no one knew they were there ;)
17:24 nengard wizzyrea - why not?
17:24 nengard my borders is better than my B&N
17:24 jcamins oleonard: Funny how that works, isn't it?
17:25 wizzyrea ours was laid out very badly
17:25 wizzyrea and the books were more expensive there than any other bookstore in town
17:26 nengard good reasons! :)
17:27 oleonard Thanks for the signoff nengard

17:38 francharb hi
17:39 francharb someone knows what does "actual cost" refer to? (in neworderempty.pl)
17:40 cait hi all
17:40 francharb hi c

17:40 wizzyrea jcamins: it was perhaps the the most weirdly laid out book store I've ever been in
17:41 wizzyrea like things were together, but in completely strange ways
17:41 jwagner Huh. Looks like all the Borders stores near me are closing. Sigh.
17:42 jcamins Good thing we have dinner guests coming on Friday.
17:43 jcamins We now have 7 loaves of bread.
17:43 oleonard Just tell 'em to bring water and you're all set.
17:55 francharb almost 7PM here, i'm need to stop working! :) if someone knows what "actual cost" is meant for (neworderempty.pl and orderreceive.pl) let me know!
17:55 francharb thanks
17:55 francharb see you
17:57 francharb_away by the way, i got my idea about this actual cost but not sure about it...
17:57 cait francharb_away: my guess is that it should not be on orderempty but only on receive - the price you actually paid for the book
17:57 francharb_away thats what i think to
17:57 francharb_away too
17:57 cait :)
17:57 francharb_away and it should be the cost that impact the budgets
17:58 cait hm, the cost that impacts the spent value
17:58 francharb_away yes
17:58 cait cool
17:58 francharb_away but if someone can confirm this, it would be great!
17:59 cait perhaps a post on the mailing list would bring up some more answers from librarians
17:59 cait not sure there is a way you can use the field in acq
18:00 jcamins Does OPACAllowHoldDateInFuture work?
18:01 jcamins It seems to.
18:04 francharb_away cait: i'm working for biblibre and we are currently developping something on the acquisition module. the thing is, we've got a library who sponsore the development so we 'kind of' must do what they want but at the same i need to check out if it's working with what already exists...*
18:04 francharb_away i'm pretty sure we did RFC for those developments...
18:10 cait there are some things on the wiki and the manual, but some details are still a bit hard to figure out

19:35 oleonard How does the web installer know what language to use?
19:35 bg wow wizzy all CAPS eh?
19:36 Brooke_ rumour has it the web installer knows if you've been naughty or nice...
19:37 * oleonard has never gotten the naughty version of the installer before
19:37 oleonard "Enter the &%^$ password you #%$$@, I ain't got all day!"
19:39 Brooke_ hhehehe
19:39 Brooke_ that is why I'm not entrusted with critical error messages
19:42 oleonard Speaking of error messages, the installer says on Step 2, "Please click Next to continue if this information is correct"
19:42 oleonard What if the information is not correct?
19:44 oleonard Should we offer a suggestion to the user?
20:03 oleonard Interesting... Here's where our installer's redirect Javascript came from: http://grizzlyweb.com/webmaster/javascripts/refresh.asp
20:03 oleonard At least that's the top Google hit on one of the comments from the js
20:04 rangi hmm
20:05 rangi there's no license on that
20:05 rangi we should sort that out
20:05 oleonard google returns 1,800 results for the phrase, of course, so the cat's out of the bag
20:06 * oleonard is going over the markup in the installer

20:07 wizzyrea OH ME
20:07 wizzyrea me me
20:07 wizzyrea I think
20:07 wizzyrea that the installer should prompt you to set up the most important sysprefs at web installer time
20:08 wizzyrea * libraries
20:08 wizzyrea * patron categories
20:08 oleonard Sorry wizzyrea, just looking at markup (templates)

20:08 wizzyrea but
20:08 wizzyrea the cat's out of the bag :)
20:09 gmcharlt wizzyrea: libs? yeah? patron categories? maybe just a minimal set to start
20:10 gmcharlt I agree that we can afford to ask a few more questions during installation, but I think we should keep it limited so that time-to-running-Koha is not too long
20:10 sekjal installing the 3M SIP2 emulator on a virtual machine... so many layers
20:10 gmcharlt for more Q&A/wizard-based setup, maybe add it to administration
20:10 gmcharlt i.e., Koha initial configuration wizard
20:10 sekjal and Windows 7 is starting to tick me off
20:15 Brooke_ if we had an out of the box option for several Library types already done for folks, they could always twiddle later to customise.
20:17 rangi a wizard would be good
20:17 Brooke_ only if we name the installer Harry

20:37 nengard i have a managing suggestions question
20:37 nengard i know we have message templates for when a suggestion is approved, rejected, ordered, etc
20:37 nengard do those messages actually send?
20:38 nengard and if we have those why don't we have an email to the librarian that there is a suggestion waiting?
20:38 nengard or do we and I'm missing it?
20:38 nengard :)
20:39 hdl nengard: iirc, there has been a systempreference for that.
20:40 nengard i thought so too! but i can't find it anymore
20:40 nengard maybe i'm just overlooking it
20:40 cait hm, I think we have only the email librarian when a hold is placed
20:41 cait and I think the only way to deactivate the suggestions mails is probably deleting the template
20:41 cait I have not tried if they are sent, but there seems to be no switch
20:41 hdl nengard: it is for the HOLD...
20:41 nengard that I found
20:41 hdl Not for suggestion...
20:42 nengard cait so the suggestion emails are sending? (I dont have email turned on on my test server)
20:42 cait nengard: to be honest - I have not tested it

22:20 rhcl sekjal: what does you SIP patch do?
22:21 sekjal rhcl: it prevents SIP machines from crashing when checking out titles with diacritics
22:21 sekjal or, at least that's the intent
22:21 sekjal diacritics in a title or other bit of SIP message make checksum calculation all wonky
22:21 sekjal my patch just scrubs out any diacritical marks before writing
22:22 sekjal based it on the solution Evergreen came up with for the same problem
22:22 atz sekjal, this is because 3M didn't define SIP to deal w/ diacritics
22:22 atz bascially, their checksum algorithm is useless after we start pushing UTF8
22:24 sekjal atz: does NCIP have the same limitation, do you know?
22:25 atz we weren't able to entirely "fix" this in evergreen either
22:25 atz see this test: https://github.com/atz/SIPServer/blob/master/t/0001_checksum.t
22:25 atz run it w/ an arg like "1" to get verbose debugging output
22:26 atz does NCIP do any checksumming at all? I suspect not.
22:26 atz really checksums were included because the original expected mode of communication was via SERIAL cable
22:27 sekjal ewww
22:27 atz modern network communication (TCPIP) already has checksums built in, and they aren't limited to ASCII or Microsoft code pages
22:35 rhcl so conceptually is there some better way than SIP/NCIP to query a remote db? Kyle must be doing something different with Libki.
22:37 sekjal rhcl: for specific ILS systems, it's probably better to use whatever API they may have. but SIP/NCIP are standards (more or less) that work well enough for a large enough number of systems
22:38 rhcl I was thinking Z39.60
22:40 sekjal good for getting bibliographic info, but not patron or circulation data

22:41 rhcl ah, I'm disappointed. Thought somebody would query the .60, but I guess I was too subtle.
22:42 hudsonbot Starting build 369 for job Koha_Master (previous build: SUCCESS)
22:42 rhcl z39.60 is a new standard I'm proposing to replace SIP
22:42 rhcl guess it's time to go grab a cup of coffee...
22:44 sekjal rhcl: thought it was already a standard in use... like Z39.50 for unicode.... obviously I was reading too much into the vague Google results
22:44 sekjal time for me to call it a night

22:56 bg just testing to see if atz has a keyword alert for SIP :)
