04:25 pianohacker Hi Amit
06:45 kmkale Good afternoon
07:02 magnus good morning! ;-)
08:01 pianohacker good night
08:19 Amit heya kmkale
08:30 kmkale HI amit
09:00 cait hi #koha
09:08 jransom hi all
09:09 jransom do we have Koha meetings in early June?
09:31 magnus jransom: http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/General_Meeting,_June_2_2010
09:34 jransom Thank you :)
09:34 jransom I couldn't find it onthe koha-community calendar
09:39 magnus looks like there is no handover meeting scheduled: http://stats.workbuffer.org/irclog/koha/2010-05-04#i_433675
09:41 * magnus ponders better ways to name the meetings, so http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Category:IRC_Meetings could make more sense
09:42 magnus jransom: yep, looks like it needs to be added to the calendar
09:44 jransom yeah no community meeting planned
10:34 chris theres the general meeting
10:35 chris no really anything to talk about in the handover meeting that cant be handled in the general meeting
10:36 jransom i was talking with magnus along the same lines
10:36 jransom did you see how many we updated today?
10:40 magnus just curious: what are you updating? ;-)
10:41 jransom we are reregistering our borrwers - updating the borrowers database and issuing new cards
10:42 jransom and its insanely busy - like 5 fulltime staff reregistering all day, queues of people,
10:42 jransom and they all want to chat and look at the new site
10:42 jransom so its useful and fun and important but killing us staffing wise.
10:43 chris 503 today
10:43 jransom since are a 15 FTE orgs over 3 sites, hence why 3 on desk and 5 registering at 1 branch alone is nt sustainable
10:43 jransom cool :)
10:43 jransom heaps more than yesterday
10:44 jransom i'm still editing data from yesterday -havnt started on todays but I am hoping after the growling they all got this morning that it will be heaps better quality
10:44 chris :)
10:44 magnus that traffic probably wont last for ever, though? ;-)
10:45 jransom no
10:45 jransom but we havnt really started advertising yet either
10:45 jransom we hope to get 20,000 dne over next 3 months
10:55 magnus that's a lot of people
10:56 chris close to 30k in the db at the mo
10:56 chris was closer to 40 before we did a clean out in the upgrade
10:57 chris so i reckon will be somewhere round 35ish after the reregistrations
10:57 chris thats my guesstimate
10:58 magnus and koha is holding up under the pressure, of course?
10:58 chris its mostly typing, it doesnt really touch koha much at all
11:02 magnus which is good of course - a bad design might have meant lots of stress on the system from that level of activity...
11:03 chris well thats pretty low activity really :)
11:04 chris did 1514 issues and 1607 returns at the same time
11:11 gmcharlt @quote random
11:11 chris no munin
11:12 gmcharlt yep, trying to figure out what happened to it
11:13 gmcharlt @quote random
11:13 munin gmcharlt: Quote #49: "wizzyrea: KOHAKONG: Stomping all other ILS's" (added by a user that is no longer registered at 11:20 AM, December 22, 2009)
11:15 gmcharlt chris: in case you haven't seen already, check your IRC logs; somebody was asking last Friday or so about working on fastcgi
11:15 jransom all went well until half the town lost power
11:16 jransom hi galen :)
11:16 chris gmcharlt: ah yep, ive kinda moved on to plack now
11:16 gmcharlt enh request: supply spot power generator with each Koha database
11:16 gmcharlt hi jransom
11:16 gmcharlt congratulations on your go-live, btw
11:17 chris oh i meant to ask, did the reporter guy do an article btw?
11:18 jransom not yet but he will
11:18 jransom but ...
11:19 chris ah thats right, its only published once a week now eh?
11:19 jransom the dominion post may be doing an article for the weekend magazine insert about HLT and how we are doing things differently, and compare it to wgtn and tauranga and the other high profile libraries who have been told to save money / raise money.
11:19 chris ohhh nice
11:19 jransom so that will have to be played very carefully to not get wgtn feeling cornered
11:20 chris i had to be politic talking to him, cos the chronicle is an apn paper :)
11:20 chris didnt tell him i work on stuff :)
11:20 jransom fair enough
11:21 chris you're in pittsburgh gmcharlt ? whereabouts are you staying?
11:21 gmcharlt in the Oakland area, AKA the U of Pitt district
11:21 chris yep, i know the area
11:22 chris its near cmu too
11:22 gmcharlt yup
11:23 chris if you get a chance the art museum is really really cool
11:24 chris i liked the natural history one too, but i like museums in general :)
11:24 gmcharlt :)
11:25 gmcharlt I've been there several times; I like the cathedral of learning
11:26 chris west view is way out of your way, but thats where laurel is from, and they have a great diner there, islays

11:31 gmcharlt    diners++
11:33 gmcharlt anyway, off to work
11:34 chris good luck, hope it all goes well
11:59 jransom rights me - good night all
12:06 * jdavidb says, "harrrumph!" and flops into his chair.
12:09 * jwagner doesn't have the energy to harrumph....
12:13 owen Hi #koha
12:14 owen Did everyone get lots of work done with no 'muricans around yesterday?
12:14 jwagner morning, owen
12:53 francharb hello all
12:54 francharb is there anyone who already used the HOLD_PRINT notice?
12:54 francharb I can't find where to use it...
12:56 francharb if by any chance you find out, just let me know, thanks!
12:56 francharb :)
12:56 jwagner francharb, see But 3482 -- you need a HOLD_PRINT notice file & a cron job
12:56 jwagner Bug 3482 even
12:56 munin 04Bug http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=3482 enhancement, PATCH-Sent, ---, gmcharlt, NEW, Print overdue and hold notices for patrons without email addresses
12:57 francharb great! thanks jwagner!!
12:58 francharb i check this out!
12:59 jwagner Note that there was a later bug from the work BibLibre did expanding the print notices; I think a patch has been pushed for that so if you're up to date you should be OK.
13:00 francharb ok thanks
13:04 chris_n g'morning
13:04 owen Hi chris_n
13:48 reva Hi We are the Antigua and Barbuda Bureau of Standards. We tested the staff client demos of Koha (Express and the one profiled for public libraries) at the liblime site. We run Windows XP workstations on a Peer Group Lan Ethernet enabled topology. What is the latest version of stable and free version of Koha for Windows?
13:49 reva Is the z 39.50 search and import function working with this version on the Windows install?
13:52 reva Anyone able to respond to my above query on Koha Library Management System?
13:53 magnus reva: i'm trying to find something recent on koha and windows...
13:53 sekjal reva: are you looking to install Koha on a Windows server, or just access it from Windows machines?
13:54 reva just on work station console, but making it our "server".
13:54 reva Thanks for answering:).
13:55 magnus of course: koha is 100% web based, so you could run it on a linux server (or a virtual linux server on a windows host) and access everything you need through a browser (preferably Firefox for the staff functions) on any client
13:56 reva I am not familiar with linux install and configure and of course, virtualization will be very new to us here. We have Windows xp workstation, and they are Ethernet connected.
13:57 owen I wonder if anyone is using Koha in production with a VM setup?
13:57 magnus i think this is a very detailed, techy status of Koha on windows: http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/StrawberryPerl
13:58 magnus owen: i run mine on slicehost - that's vm, but i don't own the hardware
13:58 jdavidb owen: Aside from cloud virtualization, we're not. Got a bunch of test servers in VMs, but no production.
13:58 reva So thinking of dedicating one of the workstation consoles as a server and installing Koha, MySQL, and Apache on it as the documents and instruction pages on the web site says.
13:58 owen reva: Setting up Koha on Windows via a virtual machine is not too difficult
13:58 jcamins owen: We are.
13:58 jcamins It's not pretty.
13:59 owen jcamins: :(
13:59 jcamins We are going to be outsourcing our catalog very soon.
13:59 owen jcamins: Too slow? What's not pretty about it?
14:00 jcamins The major problem is that our host machine (a Mac) doesn't like VirtualBox, so every day or so, it crashes hard.
14:00 reva I will check out the link, Magnus. Ok how would I go about setting it up? I have someone who may be able to help me.
14:00 wizzyrea well I probably wouldn't do a production install in a VM
14:00 jcamins The other problem is that we ran out of space, several times, but that could happen if you only had a 5gig drive on a physical server, too.
14:00 wizzyrea uh, yea
14:00 wizzyrea that would do it
14:01 magnus reva: i think you should get in touch with chris - but he's in nz - he'll probably be here in 4-5 hours
14:01 owen wizzyrea: I just wondered if there is any size collection that would be small enough to recommend it as a possibility
14:01 reva Ok first off, the ABBS (that is our Bureau of Standards here) can only go in for Open Source. Isn't VMbox proprietary?
14:01 jdavidb we've got some VMWare virtualization going on, and our big problem is that at near-peak loads, all the VMs on a box are a leetle bit sensitive to what's going on with the busiest one. (when the ArchivalWare devs do something, it slows our box, and vice versa.)
14:02 jcamins If you limited yourself to one virtual machine, I don't see why it wouldn't work (we have an internal VM, which is copied to the external VM every few weeks), provided you can avoid the whole "host machine crashing hard" issue.
14:02 jcamins And plan ahead for space requirements.
14:02 jcamins VirtualBox is open source, I think.
14:02 reva Ok, Magnus. i will try again in a few hours to see if Chris is logged on.
14:03 owen reva: http://www.virtualbox.org/
14:03 magnus reva: i *think* he's the one who knows the most about koha on windows
14:03 owen No, chris isn't the one to ask about Koha on Windows
14:03 reva Another thing, at this point I am not even clear about which is the latest version of Open Source Koha. Is it 3.2 or 3.0.6?
14:04 magnus owen: oops?
14:04 magnus reva: 3.0.6 is the latest *stable* release
14:04 owen chris_n I think is the one who was working with Strawberry Perl
14:05 reva Owen, the Koha community newsletter had an article on 3.2 alpha release on May 4th. But their download site says the latest community supported version is 3.0.6. So we are confused.
14:05 owen reva: the "alpha" means it is not stable yet
14:06 reva Thanks Magnus for that 3.0.6 clarification.
14:06 owen 3.0.6 is the latest *stable* version
14:06 magnus oops - my eyes slipped on the revision history in the wiki: http://wiki.koha-community.org/w/index.php?title=StrawberryPerl&action=history sorry, reva: chris_n is the guy you want
14:06 reva Oh, I did not know that that was what alpha meant.
14:07 magnus but then, HLT have just gone live on alpha... http://koha-community.org/horowhenua-library-trust-new-koha-launched-3-2-alpha2/
14:08 reva Ok, I will contact chris_n, Magnus. When is he likely to be around in the chatroom?
14:08 magnus i would go for the 3.2 alpha 2 version, but that's just me...
14:08 magnus reva: he was here about an hour ago, probably just busy with something else
14:09 reva Lots of good leads in those links you have provided, Magnus. I never receive any responses from either Koha community contact page (filled out form twice) or their win32 forum.
14:10 owen reva: "Koha community contact page?"
14:10 owen Where do you mean?
14:11 reva Do you know whether it has Windows release? And is the Z39.50 search and import working (in either 3.0.6 or the alpha 3.2)?
14:13 owen reva: Were you submitting this form? http://koha.org/contact-info
14:13 magnus or this one? http://koha-community.org/get-involved/
14:13 reva I meant the Koha.org contact page, not the koha-community.org page. But I registered at the Koha-community.org about a week ago so I can ask questions. But the server is yet to send me a link to click on!
14:13 owen I can't imagine the owners of koha.org answer support requests via their contact form
14:14 owen (nor should they, since there is a mailing list and an IRC channel)
14:14 reva Yeah, magnus., that is the link (http://koha.org/contact-info) I filled out form and submitted two times but no one has responded.
14:15 magnus i too tried to register at http://koha-community.org/ today, but i have not gotten the confirmation email (and it's not in spam either)
14:16 owen wizzyrea: Have you ever gotten a submission from the "for library users" form?
14:17 reva Wizzyrea, I am not sure where I would find "for library users" form. I have filled out a few forms by now, so I am a little confused:).
14:17 owen reva: My question was directed at wizzyrea
14:19 reva I check the spam, no it is not there either for me. The funny thing is when I tried to re-register, it would not allow me the same name as that was already reserved for another user. So something wrong that it knows there is a registration under that name, but did not send any confirmation link to the email address.
14:21 reva sorry, Maguns, mistook it for me, getting cross-eyed looking at the chat screen name tags:)
14:22 wizzyrea 1. there is no request help form on k-c.org
14:23 wizzyrea I think reva is talking about koha.org.
14:23 wizzyrea and no one answers requests from koha.org anymore
14:23 wizzyrea that I know of
14:23 owen I wonder if anyone ever answered support questions submitted to koha.org?
14:23 wizzyrea no clue
14:25 wizzyrea magnus: sometimes the k-c.org emails get tagged as spam
14:25 wizzyrea :(
14:25 wizzyrea and sometimes rejected altogether
14:26 reva Not only that, someone out there administering the listserv for koha for win32 needs to check their server. There are only archives (though there are posts from May 2010), but no place to post anything. I emailed the general address given and have not heard yet.So I wait for chris_n to get some clarifications?
14:27 magnus wizzyrea: i'm using Gmail, and it's not in the spam folder (unless it's cleverly disguised with a subject like "OFFICIAL WINNING NOTIFICATION!!!" or something like that ;-)
14:27 reva I searched my spam box using koha as the keyword. Maybe suggest some other keyword?
14:27 libtek Good morning.
14:28 owen reva: Did you sign up for the mailing list here? http://lists.koha-community.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/koha-win32
14:28 reva maguns, that was funny. my gmail spam box did not have anything but winning lottery numbers either:).
14:29 magnus hehe - the spam-folder is truly a treasure trove...
14:29 * owen wonders how to get a record's biblionumber into the XSL view
14:29 reva owen, that is the one I signed up for. But there is no response to the all member query I emailed. Nor can I find it in the archive as unanswered. I am not sure I know the protocol for list servs; I am more of a forum person.
14:30 libtek I'm about to report what appears to be a bug. I have 3.00.06, and the holds over tab in the Holds Awaiting Pickup section of circulation appears to be broken. The tab is there, but when I click on it, the page displays an error in the status bar, and the page never displays.
14:31 owen It doesn't look like anyone is answering questions on the koha-win32 mailing list.
14:32 reva At our Bureau we do not circulate material. We are mainly interested for now in the Cataloging module and the OPAC. Ours is a small library and mostly we fetch standards for industry patrons for "a small fee".
14:32 wizzyrea magnus what username did you try to register with? You can msg me if you want
14:32 libtek IE8 shows the error. Firefox 3.6.3 doesn't even acknowledge a problem. It does not do anything.
14:33 reva So open source means you are left out in the open, casting about for answers?
14:33 libtek Does anyone else see this issue?
14:33 reva I used reva
14:33 owen reva: There are no promises of support. But many people generously give it
14:33 magnus wizzyrea: magnusenger
14:33 owen libtek: What's the error?
14:34 reva FF has its own issued now, with crashes even when only a couple of tabs are open. I think there is some incompatibility with Java 6.20
14:35 libtek owen: I'd paste the error details, but the paste.workbuffer.org is down. Just a sec...
14:35 reva sorry, i answered what was meant for someone else, yet again.
14:37 chris_n heya reva
14:37 reva Ok thanks everyone; I will definitely follow the links and see where I get. If anyone knows that 3.2. is available for windows install, please let me know; i will stay logged on.
14:37 chris_n are you looking for the status of koha on win32 + strawberry?
14:37 libtek owen: Exception thrown and not caught / ui.tabs.js / Code: 0 / URI:http//10.100.30.53:8080/intranet-tmpl/prog/en/lib/jquery/plugins/ui.tabs.js
14:38 reva Hi chris_n. I am looking for help and was told you are the man.
14:38 libtek Line 324 Char: 21
14:38 wizzyrea 3.2 is not yet ported to win32
14:38 chris_n reva: using the latest strawberry release, you should be able to install koha, however
14:38 chris_n it is very unstable atm
14:38 reva Yes; but you will have to start with what strawberry is.
14:38 libtek I didn't see this in the bugs, so I am going to report it.
14:38 chris_n there are additional coding changes that will have to be worked through
14:39 reva Ok, that means I will have to go with 3.0.6, correct?
14:39 chris_n reva: the same issue will exist for all versions 3.x.x
14:39 * chris_n actually has koha running on an xp machine at home
14:39 chris_n but as I say, some things remain very broken atm
14:40 mason reva: if you *really* gotta use windows, go with a virtualbox, or vmplayer setup
14:40 chris_n reva: mason is right for now
14:40 reva chris_n, so I will have to go with 2.x.x version that is stable for windows install?
14:40 chris_n reva: if you want a native install, yes
14:40 chris_n but I highly recommend against it
14:41 chris_n as 2.x is *very* old
14:41 reva so what virtualization software is free?
14:41 owen reva: And as you can see from the koha_win32 mailing list, you won't be able to get help with it through the normal channels
14:41 chris_n iirc there are some virtualbox images of koha which are ready to go out of the box
14:41 chris_n reva: yes
14:42 mason start with the vmplayer one, of kyle's...
14:43 * chris_n plans on getting back to work on koha win32 fixes sometime
14:44 reva chris_n so that means I install the vmplayer first, before I install Koha?
14:44 mason http://lists.katipo.co.nz/public/koha/2009-May/018652.html
14:44 chris_n reva: I'm not 100% sure, but I think so
14:44 mason http://kylehall.info/index.php/projects/koha/koha-virtual-appliance/
14:44 owen libtek: I think I see where the bug is in the template
14:45 reva chris_n Ok, I will read up on the vmplayer site. Could you kind of describe to me what it does?
14:45 mason reva: spend your time learning to setup koha3-stable on ubuntu, *not* windows ;)
14:46 libtek http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/post_bug.cgi
14:46 libtek http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=4843
14:46 munin 04Bug 4843: critical, P5, ---, kyle.m.hall, NEW, Hold Over tab broken
14:47 mason unless you are an expert with windows-VMs, or setting up a native windows LAMP setup, you will have much problems
14:47 reva chris_n Ok, I will read up on the vmplayer site. Could you kind of describe to me what it does? and we are going to "dedicate" one console to act as server. So can I have dual OS (the XP and the Ubuntu on it) and go like that?
14:47 mason and only chris_n here has a windows-koha install, to help you
14:48 chris_n reva: I do not use vmplayer and so am unfamiliar with the details of it
14:48 chris_n you should be able to run the images mason pointed you to with it, however
14:49 chris_n and that on win32
14:49 mason http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VMware_Player
14:49 reva mason I see you are the one advising against the VM set up. But is ubuntu easy to install and configure for a commerical off the shelf install expert like me:)
14:49 owen libtek: I could send you a revised version of the template to test. I don't have a 3.0.x install
14:50 mason trust me, you'll have windows specific problems, that know one here has any experience to help you with ;)
14:52 reva chris_n; I will follow the links provided by mason.
14:53 libtek owen: sure, if you can guide me on how to apply it. I've never done anything like this before.
14:54 owen libtek: I went ahead and attached the full revised template (not a patch) to the bug report
14:54 CGI039 Are the patron categories modifiable?
14:54 owen If you want to test, save that file in place of your existing copy of waitingreserves.tmpl (keep a backup of course)
14:54 wizzyrea CGI039: yep.
14:54 mason reva: http://git.koha-community.org/cgi-bin/gitweb.cgi?p=koha.git;a=blob;f=INSTALL.ubuntu
14:55 mason ubuntu install guide
14:55 reva mason, chris_n if I install vmplayer do I need to have ubuntu as my os necessarily?
14:55 owen CGI039: The "super-categories" are not modifiable, but the sub-categories are
14:55 mason reva: no - vmplayer clients for both
14:56 CGI039 Please give an example of the "super categories"
14:56 reva mason, thanks, that is one few new configurations to learn. I am new to open source and vmplayer, etc. but I am getting a little confidence now.
14:56 libtek owen: I'm not sure how to get the file onto the ubuntu server yet. I've only done an install from CD and downloaded installs per install instructions.
14:57 owen CGI039: Have you been to the "patron types and categories" page in Administration?
14:57 CGI039 Not yet..but I've screen screenshots..So far, I've seen "Adult" "Child"
14:58 CGI039 Are these the supercategories..The reason i ask is because our library doesn't have many categories...
14:58 CGI039 Just student, staff, faculty and guest..
14:59 reva Thanks chris_n, mason, owen and magnus for all the help and links provided. I have my work cut out for me for this week. Bye for now.
14:59 CGI039 Excuse me I've seen screen shots..
14:59 owen CGI039: You'll be able to configure your categories just fine I think
14:59 magnus bye reva, and welcome back
15:00 mason bug 4239
15:00 munin 04Bug http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=4239 enhancement, PATCH-Sent, ---, gmcharlt, NEW, Allow holds on multiple items of selected titles
15:01 reva Thanks chris_n from super sunny Antigua, one of the Leeward islands in the Lesser Antilles, in short in the Caribbean:).
15:02 chris_n reva: sounds like a nice place to be :)
15:05 * owen signs up for the Koha-installation strike team helicopter-bound for Antigua
15:06 CGI039 thanx
15:07 * chris_n can be persuaded to join as well if they serve some of their excellent coffee
15:08 * jwagner will go too, if the trip can be on cruise ship instead of helicopter :-)
15:08 owen Aw, man...
15:08 owen Next you'll be telling me you won't parachute in!
15:09 * jwagner LIKES cruise ships :-)
15:10 wizzyrea it's not a strike team if there are no parachutes
15:11 wizzyrea so you can be part of the "leisurely arriving koha helper people" that come on the cruise ship, and arrive very relaxed.
15:11 owen wizzyrea: If you want to join our strike team you can choose which A-Team member you want to play
15:11 jcamins What about submarines? Submarines don't have parachutes, and they can be part of a strike team.
15:12 * jwagner sees my role as more of a support one -- logistics via cruise ship will work.
15:13 wizzyrea ooh!
15:14 chris_n jwagner can be part of the JFO
15:15 * wizzyrea can't even remember who all of the A Team members are, but is motivated by getting to hum the theme song.
15:16 owen Here you go: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_The_A-Team_characters
15:20 wizzyrea owen: take a look at http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/JQuery_Library any other tips you'd like to add (i'm about to add a few of my mods in there)
15:23 jdavidb hi, cait! :)
15:23 owen wizzyrea: Will do.
15:24 * jwagner gets ready for another meeting but would prefer to get ready for a cruise :-(
15:28 cait hi jdavidb :)
15:31 libtek owen: how do I get the patch? I'm out of my element on this one.
15:31 owen libtek: Do you know where Koha is intalled on your machine?
15:31 libtek owen: or replacement file, I should say.
15:32 libtek yes
15:32 owen And can you find the existing waitingreserves.tmpl file in your installation?
15:35 libtek yes. And I just made a backup copy of it.
15:35 owen Here's the revised template from the bug report: http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/attachment.cgi?id=2190
15:36 libtek okay. This just opens an odd looking webpage
15:37 libtek do I save the source to a file?
15:37 owen Actually I don't think that will work, if your browser opened it by default.
15:38 owen Go to the bug page: http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=4843
15:38 munin 04Bug 4843: major, P5, ---, kyle.m.hall, NEW, Hold Over tab broken
15:38 owen Look for the attachment link ("Revised version of the 3.0.5 release template")
15:38 libtek Already there. Found that link. It did the same thing. I'm looking at it from my Windows machine, if that makes any difference.
15:39 owen Right click and "save link as..." waitingreserves.tmpl
15:39 libtek Okay.
15:39 owen ...but you should do it from the machine you have Koha on so you can save it in place of the existing one
15:40 libtek I have no idea how to do that. I am just saving it to a flash drive at this point and I was going to copy it over.
15:40 owen That'll work I think
15:41 libtek My command line knowledge in ubuntu server is limited.
15:43 wizzyrea ok I've added most of my more useful jquery mods to http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/JQuery_Library
15:44 wizzyrea I should note that in many cases there's probably a better way to do it
15:45 owen wizzyrea: It might be nice to add a version number to each one in case a later upgrade fixes whatever the jquery is needed for
15:45 wizzyrea good point
15:45 owen For instance, I think the cataloging search one is fixed now
15:45 wizzyrea it is, I fixed it :P
15:45 wizzyrea ^.^
15:46 wizzyrea but it's not in our system yet hiss
15:46 wizzyrea I will add version
15:48 wizzyrea there
15:48 owen jeeze, took you long enough ;)
15:52 libtek owen: you fixed it. :) You are a genius.
15:53 owen Not a genius libtek, but I have seen how jquery tabs break often enough
15:53 owen I'm glad that worked
15:54 owen I'll submit that as a real patch
15:55 libtek owen: it's more than I could do at this point. I appreciate the fix. Thank you.
16:43 brendan quick question - when items are aged to Lost using long_overdue.pl --> is there any notice that is sent?
16:44 jdavidb I don't think so, brendan. that would be handled through a notice trigger set up for the same number of days.
16:44 brendan yeah that's what I was doing - just wasn't sure
16:44 brendan thanks jdavidb and good morning
16:45 jdavidb :) you're welcome, and good afternoon.
16:45 brendan not yet ;)
16:54 nengard the dontmerge preference says "Don't automatically update attached biblios when changing an authority record. If this is off, please ask your administrator to enable the merge_authorities.pl cronjob". -- it shouldn't say OFF what should it say? "if this is set to 'do'" - which is off? do or don't?
17:02 libtek I've submit a new bug I've seen in 3.0.6. http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=4846
17:02 munin 04Bug 4846: normal, P5, ---, kyle.m.hall, NEW, Pending Holds/Reserves lists undefined item
17:57 owen Congratulations tomascohen

17:58 tomascohen owen: thanks! bgkriegel is not online to receive the congrats too, a pity
18:00 owen Congratulations bgkriegel !
18:00 bgkriegel thanks :)
18:20 chris morning
18:21 chris congrats tomascohen and bgkriegel
18:23 cait morning chris
18:23 cait hm
18:23 cait and grats to tomascohen and bgkriegel from me too
18:23 * jdavidb waves to chris and cait.
18:23 bgkriegel thank you all

18:28 cait @eightball javaserver pages homework?
18:28 munin cait: You know the answer better than I.
18:28 cait hmpf.
18:29 cait my parents did that to me, when I did not want to go to school... it always worked.
18:29 jdavidb @eightball workload ever going to be rational?
18:29 munin jdavidb: Maybe...
18:29 owen @eightball Quit early and go to the pool?
18:29 munin owen: It is possible.
18:30 cait owen: is there a way to bribe the eightball?
18:30 jdavidb @eightball personal implosion in the next three weeks?
18:30 munin jdavidb: I doubt it very much.
18:30 jdavidb darn thing is much more confident than I am.
18:31 collum @eightball will I ever catch up on work accumulated because of the holiday?
18:31 munin collum: NO!
18:31 collum Thought so
18:32 cait jdavidb: im with eightball on that :)
18:34 jdavidb Thanks, cait...good to hear, even if I'm not so sure of it myself. It's been a rough patch lately.
18:34 cait @eightball can I make the jsp program do what it is supposed to do?
18:34 munin cait: _I_ don't know.
18:36 * cait grumbles

18:37 chris mostly cloudy is an understatement
18:38 nengard heh
18:38 nengard we had hail here yesterday

18:38 cait its raining here since begin of may...
18:38 nengard after a 90 degree day - can you say global warning?

18:39 nengard that doesn't mention the thunder I keep hearing....
18:40 collum chris: does the rain in NZ just spin around Wellington?
18:41 * collum thinks it's odd that the clouds don't move west.
18:41 chris hehe, today it does
18:41 chris http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/3765370/Motorists-trapped-by-heavy-rain
18:42 * wizzyrea still wonders why mm instead of cm.
18:42 chris we arent even getting the worst of it
18:42 wizzyrea but will let it go. :)
18:42 collum oops. east rather. Long day.
18:42 chris wizzyrea: you and your imprecise measurements :)
18:42 wizzyrea pbbbt
18:48 owen wizzyrea: Did you get this poll on that page? "Should the size of a scoop of chips be standardised?" Talk about hating the imprecise!
18:48 chris well light rain is .25mm/hour
18:48 * owen voted, naturally.
18:48 chris which is 0.0025cm which just looks silly .. its mostly mm just cos usually we dont get that much :)
18:50 chris http://www.stuff.co.nz/life-style/food-wine/3760302/With-chips-scoop-size-does-matter
18:51 chris we have no real news obviously
18:52 jwagner fake news is always more interesting anyway
18:53 jdavidb scoop size on....oh!
18:53 * jdavidb thought y'all were talking about what everyone but America calls "crisps"--fritos "scoops" for instance.
18:53 wizzyrea LOL
18:53 wizzyrea oh my
18:54 collum jwagner: Not really. Here's some real news. http://www.finextra.com/news/fullstory.aspx?newsitemid=21431
18:56 wizzyrea ok, I can see now why you like mm, I think. That is a good reason... .0025cm *is* a silly way to write it
18:56 wizzyrea (though no less silly than .02in)
18:57 owen Expressing a decimal fraction of an inch is double-silly.
18:57 jdavidb In Texas, rain is measured in the following increments, "just a sprinkle", "little bit", "a good soak", and "gully-washer."
18:57 owen jdavidb: You left out "toad-strangler"
18:57 * wizzyrea really did lol
18:57 jdavidb heh.
18:58 jdavidb The phase above "gully-washer" is when the animals start lining up two by two.
18:58 cait :)
19:00 wizzyrea oh I like this headline: "Kim Kardashian 'brutally teased'"
19:01 wizzyrea I guess it is in the life and style section
19:01 wizzyrea so I suppose I couldn't expect it to be serious news
19:01 chris unless its in world, or national, its all pretty much not serious
19:04 jwagner collum, stupid pet/criminal tricks don't count :-)
19:05 chris ok time to make the kids breakfast bbiab
19:05 tomascohen @wunder Cordoba, Argentina
19:06 munin tomascohen: The current temperature in Cordoba Aerodrome, Argentina is 16.0C (3:00 PM ART on June 01, 2010). Conditions: Clear. Humidity: 40%. Dew Point: 6.0C. Pressure: 30.16 in 1021 hPa (Falling).
19:06 jwagner If I can interrupt with a serious question, though -- a site has a very long 520 field and has been using HTML markup tags in the MARC to make it display nicely under the OPAC title notes tab. (Sigh) The 520 in XSLT shows in the main summary area, though, and pays no attention to the markup tags, except to display them prominently. How do people deal with lengthy note fields other than having them display as one very large runon paragraph?
19:07 owen jwagner: I don't think anyone has come up with a solution yet
19:07 jwagner I tried splitting some of the content into a second 520 field, and the XSLT helpfully tacked it onto the end of the first one.
19:08 jwagner So right now the only solution is "don't use XSLT" which has its own drawbacks :-(
19:19 zico hi
19:20 zico suddenly i am facing problem regarding "Hold Issue" buttons
19:20 zico till last night... it was working
19:20 zico but... Suddenly... though there are some holdings...but... my "Hold Queue" is not showing anything
19:21 zico can anyone bring some advice?
19:22 cait is your cron job running?
19:22 * jdavidb waves
19:25 chris well, you could turn off the html scrubbing for the xslt, then you are open to xss attacks though
19:25 chris (kids are eating porridge ..well kahu is, atarau is kinda smearing it around, so i have about 10 mins to read email before work)
19:27 jwagner chris, thanks but I don't want to make it vulnerable. I've told them to turn off XSLT if they don't mind losing the other features....
19:30 chris the real fix is to allow certain tags through, <p> <br /> etc .. and escape everything else, ie have a whitelist
19:33 wizzyrea nengard: I added the jquery bits you were asking for to the wiki
19:33 nengard wizzyrea you rock!!
19:34 owen chris: HTML scrubbing? Why would there be HTML in the 520 field?
19:34 zico cait: yes, my cron job is running
19:36 owen Sounds more like there are line feeds in the 520 field that need to be converted to HTML for output
19:36 owen Or jwagner do you want them to be able to add HTML tags?
19:43 jwagner owen, no they're actually adding HTML into the 520, like <P> and <li> etc. to format the output. It works nicely in the Title Notes tab, but looks horrible in the main XSLT-controlled display.
19:43 jwagner "then don't do that" doesn't seem to be a workable solution for them :-(
19:44 jwagner I frankly don't want to encourage adding HTML into MARC, but there should be some way for XSLT to break up lengthy entries.
19:44 owen I wonder if there are MARC-legal formatting rules: line breaks allowed?
19:45 jwagner Not that I've ever seen. I've run into people trying to do this before, in Unicorn. No good solution there either.
19:45 jwagner Maybe it would help if the XSLT didn't put all the 520s on one line. Then breaking the entry into multiple 520s would achieve some screen separation.
19:48 owen XSLT puts multiple 505s on separate lines but not multiple 520s?
19:48 owen jwagner: You're going to become the oracle of complicated MARC records at this rate.
19:49 * owen advises, Seek jwagner for the complicated MARC example you seek
19:49 * jwagner gracefully but definitively refuses the mantle of oracle
19:50 jwagner Actually, I don't know what it does with 505s, haven't looked. I did try creating a separate 520 and it just appended it.
19:51 jwagner Also, this is an older system, I don't know what current XSLT might be doing....Need to research more when I have a few brain cells (and minutes) to spare. I was hoping someone had a quick answer though :-(
19:51 owen Your last troublesome example showed the multiple 505s: http://hartford.waldo.kohalibrary.com/cgi-bin/koha/opac-detail.pl?biblionumber=302822
19:51 owen Do you have an example online of the 520 problem?
19:51 wizzyrea I wonder if what you really need there is something like http://perishablepress.com/press/2010/06/01/wrapping-content/
19:51 wizzyrea so whitelist <pre> and add a style for it and put that in your record.
19:52 collum Just went over to cataloging and tried to add line breaks to a 520 field through connexion. We couldn't.
19:53 wizzyrea or maybe i'm high.
19:53 jwagner owen, see http://cmbsc.kohalibrary.com/cgi-bin/koha/opac-detail.pl?biblionumber=21620
19:54 jwagner compare the top-of-page display with the Title Notes tab
19:57 wizzyrea if you suppress it, it's gone in both places?
19:57 jwagner wizzyrea, suppress? Switching to non-XSLT takes it off the top part.
19:58 owen Hmmm.... Really the XSLT view shouldn't even put the 520 there, since we have the title notes tab. Either that or the notes tab should be suppressed
19:59 jwagner Sorry, but I have to hit the road (in between thunderstorms). Maybe we can pick up the discussion tomorrow? Thanks
20:03 owen @later tell jwagner In HEAD multiple 520s are output on separate lines
20:03 munin owen: The operation succeeded.
20:07 cait good night all
20:13 owen good night all from me too
20:15 libtek nengard: are you avaialble?
20:15 libtek available?
20:15 nengard yes
20:15 libtek I'm looking at one of the bugs your name is attached to. #2367
20:16 wizzyrea bug 2367
20:16 munin 04Bug http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=2367 major, PATCH-Sent, ---, gmcharlt, NEW, Holds Awaiting Pickup not limiting by library
20:16 libtek I'm confused about the version. Is this version even available? I thought the latest was 3.0.6
20:17 wizzyrea this is for the next version, 3.2
20:17 wizzyrea the latest stable release is 3.0.6
20:18 libtek Okay, so the bugs that list later than 3.0 are for upcoming versions, and these are issues being addressed before release?
20:18 libtek before stable release then?
20:23 jcamins_mib So far as anyone knows, no one has branched off my git repository, right?
20:23 jcamins_mib (errr... that is, github.com/jcamins/koha )
20:25 wizzyrea yes, that's the idea
20:26 wizzyrea not afaik, but I'm not really the one to ask jcamins_mib
20:28 jcamins_mib I'll ask again once or twice, to make sure that I don't break anyone else's repository (worse than I already have!).
20:29 jcamins_mib It occurred to me I ought to check, before I rewrite the git history.
20:33 richard hi
20:35 libtek Is there a way to point koha to an SMTP relay rather than rely on a mail service on the same machine? I haven't set up any service on this machine, and am not sure what it would involve. I can't find any instructions on setting up the mail service for koha.
20:44 wizzyrea http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/ubuntu-help/149371-how-install-sendmail-ubuntu-9-04-a.html may help
20:44 chris back
20:44 wizzyrea at the risk of starting a "which MTA is better" war.
20:45 chris libtek: no, but you can set up exim4 or postfix or whatever to be a smarthost (ie just relay all mail)
20:50 chris if you dont want to run a full mailserver yourself, i would just do that, (ie set your MTA up to just send all mail up to a relay)
20:56 libtek Thanks for the info guys. I'll see what I can figure out here.

22:07 chris still raining here
22:13 reed it's because Al and Tipper split up
22:14 chris heh
22:16 larsw ho hum, kohacon road trip
22:33 larsw http://lists.koha-community.org/pipermail/koha-devel/2010-May/thread.html has a long list of "No subject" mails at the bottom
22:33 larsw including one that discusses how chris is the release manager for 1.2 (http://lists.koha-community.org/pipermail/koha-devel/2010-May/017014.html)
22:35 larsw date stamps missing, too... but some quoted mails have them, from 2003
22:40 chris i suspect they got busted in the migration from lists.koha.org
22:40 larsw yeah, that'd be my guess as well
22:40 larsw many of the mails look like they're only partial
22:40 larsw (distributed version control, bug tracking, and now mailing list archives... hmm)
