21:03 chris actually i think it would be a good yardstick if they did :-)
21:03 chris i dont think that anyone could think having the free stuff at the top could be a bad idea
21:02 gmcharlt wizzyrea: sounds perfectly fine to me
21:02 chris seeings they are the same company now
21:02 chris i thought you were gonna ask someone to ask ptfs what they want to do with their 2 listings
21:01 chris :)
21:01 chris yeah well, that doesnt happen anymore
21:01 wizzyrea unless you're a vendor running the site >.>
21:01 chris yup
21:01 chris works for me
21:01 wizzyrea no reason to have to click through to free support
21:01 wizzyrea and I want to take the stuff on the free support page and put it top level, just under pay for support
21:00 wizzyrea well I'm looking at the support page
21:00 chris you cant do that
21:00 chris hehe
21:00 wizzyrea and I don't feel like fighting today :)
21:00 wizzyrea I think my thoughts would be unpopular, or at least heated discussion worthy
20:59 wizzyrea actually, never mind
20:59 chris what?

20:55 chris_n    wizzyrea++

20:54 wizzyrea we have some beautiful dogwood trees in lawrence right now
20:54 wizzyrea oh right, because the cherry trees are blooming right now
20:53 chris apparently its the cherry blossom festival?
20:53 wizzyrea ouch
20:53 chris shes there until tomorrow night us time
20:52 chris cos she points out things like maori are 3 times less likely to have breast cancer diagnosed, and once diagnoses 6 times less likely to receive effective treatment
20:52 chris basically the govt hates her hehe
20:51 wizzyrea Ooh
20:50 chris shes off to another one in london in a couple of days
20:50 chris shes a medical researcher, in public health, focussing mostly on the difference in outcomes
20:49 chris some medical conerence thing
20:49 wizzyrea what for?
20:49 wizzyrea !! cool :)
20:48 chris my sister is in washington dc today
20:48 wizzyrea hm, I should probably re-do that all open bugs query to not show enhancements
20:48 chris i like it
20:46 wizzyrea yea, I was wondering what people thought of that nifty bugzilla search page I did
20:45 wizzyrea "Yummy, like ircing on a cake! " cute
20:42 chris everyone seen http://koha-community.org/new-features-of-koha-community-org/
20:42 chris      koha-community.org++
20:41 chris      wizzyrea++
20:35 wizzyrea I think it's a passable replacement for the broken table
20:35 wizzyrea ok, there we go
20:18 gmcharlt not in the sense that they're standard MARC21 - no 9xx tag - but it will be consistent for Koha 3.0 and 3.2 installations
20:17 SJeffery ok, great. I will pass that along to the vendor. Are those subfields part of MARC21?
20:17 gmcharlt wizzyrea++ # you're not making a very convincing argument for stopping, you know
20:16 wizzyrea ...but I did just fix the link on the index of the page to not point to the broken one >.>
20:16 wizzyrea oh stop lol
20:14 cait       wizzyrea++ :)
20:13 wizzyrea *blush* ty ;)
20:12 gmcharlt   wizzyrea++
20:12 gmcharlt and again
20:12 wizzyrea refresh, it's even a bit better now
20:12 gmcharlt   wizzyrea++
20:12 gmcharlt SJeffery: thanks to wizzyrea, there's now http://koha-community.org/documentation/3-2-manual/appendix-g-koha-embedded-holdings-data/
20:06 SJeffery The migraine that was coming on disappeared
20:06 SJeffery Ok, a tad better
20:05 gmcharlt SJeffery: this is a bit better http://wiki.koha.org/doku.php?id=en:documentation:marc21holdings_holdings_data_information_for_vendors&s[]=embedded
20:05 wizzyrea :(
20:05 wizzyrea sorry, that' table is kind of broken at the moment
20:04 SJeffery Oh my god
20:03 gmcharlt SJeffery: the formatting is currently awful, but defaults can be found at http://koha-community.org/documentation/3-2-manual/?ch=a9489
20:02 SJeffery Is there a standard way to embed that info (such as subfields for barcodes)? Or does it all get sorted somehow on import?
20:01 gmcharlt embedding item information - i.e., location, call number, barcode, etc.
20:01 gmcharlt though that potentially touches on how much work the vendor doing the extract does vs how much the vendor doing the record import does, which I can't speak two
20:01 SJeffery Embedding what in the 952's?
20:00 gmcharlt that would mean embeding the items in 952s according to Koha's default MARC21 frameworks
19:59 SJeffery The app we have now does not store anything in MARC format, so there is a conversion involved. I just want to make sure that the file they give us can be put straight into Koha.
19:59 gmcharlt SJeffery: well, the first step is ensuring that one way or another that the extract from STAR includes as much item information as possible, either embedded in a MARC tag or a via a separate text of that can link back to the bibs via a reliable record control number
19:58 SJeffery I just checked our original quote and that is unclear whether it includes the item records.
19:57 SJeffery The current idea is that our vendor for a program called STAR Libraries will do the export, and then have PTFS do the import, but I want to make sure the first vendor does what we need.
19:56 schuster What system are the "exporting" them out of? You may have to "adjust" some of the item data to put them in the right tags before you load them.
19:56 SJeffery Ouch, had not thought about that.
19:52 gmcharlt SJeffery: will you want to load items along with the bibs?
19:51 SJeffery We are having someone do a batch export of 30,000 records with the intention of loading them into Koha. Other than telling them that is needs to be in MARC21 format, is there anything additional format wise we should specify?
19:49 * chris_n does *not* hold his breath
19:49 chris it finished last weekend
19:49 chris_n based on cfouts announcement, it seems this would be a prime time for PTFS to turn koha.org back over to the community
19:49 chris yep
19:38 brendan does New Zealand have any kind of daylight savings?
19:37 brendan hi chris
19:37 * chris pops in a for a sec while the kids are eating
19:18 munin cait: The current temperature in Konstanz, Germany is 11.0C (9:00 PM CEST on April 09, 2010). Conditions: Overcast. Humidity: 60%. Dew Point: 6.0C. Pressure: 30.40 in 1029 hPa (Rising).

19:09 brendan @wunder 93117
19:08 cait hm .mbox file... ok, I will eat something and figure that out later
19:07 cait i think those patches are a good starting point for me, just was not sure how it could work out with git
19:05 gmcharlt rather, at http://wiki.koha.org/doku.php?id=en:development:git_usage&s[]=git&s[]=apply#applying_patches
19:04 gmcharlt there are some hints at git am
19:03 cait ok, is there a howto somewhere?
19:03 gmcharlt otherwise, just make your changes and we'll see if there's actually a merge conflict
19:03 gmcharlt you could apply those patches yourself and sign off on them, then resend them along with your own patches
19:02 cait is it better do include those changes first in my files?
19:01 cait Im working on linking records by $w, I have a patch for the index and wanted to start work on xslt now. I saw 2 patches were send today that will change those files and fields.
19:00 cait hi :)
19:00 gmcharlt hi cait
19:00 cait gmcharlt: around?
17:49 fredericd which rely on a persistent execution environment?
17:49 fredericd If it's for 3.4, it has to be coordinated with database abstration goal
17:48 wizzyrea hey brendan
17:47 brendan morning #koha
17:45 hdl_laptop But maybe it would be too much
17:45 hdl_laptop could be like something we could use as a schema for an ORM
17:44 hdl_laptop f
17:44 hdl_laptop fredericd: but then which structure for column.deg
17:43 fredericd i prefer :)
17:43 wizzyrea there we go
17:43 wizzyrea http://www.linuxmint.com/about.php
17:42 wizzyrea how fun would it be to have an about page like this for the IRC regulars :) i4blnm5Yfolr
17:42 fredericd it would be a 3rd category of file to parse, install, etc.
17:42 fredericd it's doable but maybe not wishable
17:42 fredericd good question
17:39 hdl_laptop And i wondered whether we should stick to columns.def or chage that to YAML file. which could be translated the same way as pref files.
17:38 hdl_laptop Since at the moment it doesnot com into po file
17:38 hdl_laptop I asked you what you intended to do with columns.def
17:38 hdl_laptop I asked you what you intended to do with columns.dev
17:38 hdl_laptop fredericd: yes here.
17:34 fredericd No. Here?
17:33 hdl_laptop fredericd: have you read my question about columns.def ?
17:25 fredericd more and less
17:21 hdl_laptop fredericd: still around ?
17:12 wizzyrea pft
17:10 * chris_n thinks if he stood in front of a camera it might discourage people from using the module ;)
17:02 fredericd I agree
17:01 chris_n http://koha-community.org/documentation/3-2-manual/?ch=x4155
17:00 chris_n nengard has done an excellent job of documenting the module
16:59 fredericd chris_n: A good user oriented documentation would help to spread its use. Or a webcast on koha-community.org :)
16:55 * chris_n hopes it gets a lot more use so we can make further improvements and features
16:53 wizzyrea much better than the old way, for sure
16:53 wizzyrea it is really awesome. :)
16:51 fredericd chris_n: I like label creator module a LOT
16:50 chris_n nice catch on the misspelling of 'Labels' btw
16:50 chris_n ahh... neat
16:49 fredericd chris_n: thanks. Yes, it works indeed. I just send a patch to handle properly UNIMARC item callnumber, like for MARC21
16:48 chris_n HEAD from a few weeks ago works ok here
16:46 chris_n fredericd: what version of Koha?
16:37 fredericd I can't split call numbers
16:37 fredericd Does someone use Koha label creator?
16:25 Colin they crop up in lots of handy git commands
16:25 jcamins I was missing the two dots in between.
16:25 jcamins Thank you!
16:25 jcamins Ah, yeah, that did it.
16:24 jcamins And I would use the alphanumeric SHA1 ID for that revision1/revision2
16:23 Colin jcamins: you can specify a range of revisions format-patch revision1..revision2
16:20 rhcl_away canx previous
16:20 jcamins wizzyrea: I read that several times (it took me a while to understand it), but it seems to assume that everything you do is share-worthy
16:20 rhcl_away Hey, check this out. You can see my shirt and hands...
16:19 jcamins Yeah, but only for the first two of three commits.
16:19 Colin jcamins: are you wanting to do a format-patch?
16:18 wizzyrea if that doesn't help I'm probably not the one to ask. ;)
16:18 wizzyrea first: http://wiki.koha.org/doku.php?id=en:development:git_usage
16:17 wizzyrea good day :)
16:17 jcamins I'm sure this is a really easy question, but I am stumped: if you have made three changes to your local branch, and want to submit patches for the first two (since they're bug fixes), how do you do that?
16:16 jcamins Greetings, #koha
16:16 wizzyrea I just found all this music I like, but can't buy it yet and I want to listen to it in the car but I can't. Wah.
16:15 wizzyrea why, oh why, can't there be a grooveshark iphone app.
16:15 wizzyrea down by the renewal due date
16:14 wizzyrea actually
16:14 wizzyrea on circulation.pl
16:12 owen On returns.pl? It's been there a while I think
16:11 wizzyrea b/c I like!
16:11 wizzyrea ...has that "forgive fines on return" always been there or is that new?
16:09 wizzyrea ok, nm, just a fluke I guess
16:08 wizzyrea hm, that was weird
15:16 gmcharlt flaming death is too good for such incorrigibles
15:15 gmcharlt and some (mostly small) publishers reused ISBNs
15:14 jwagner Colin, not a brown paper wrapper?
15:12 Colin its ok sir we've rebound them all in plain grey
15:12 owen I can hear the irate patron now: "I wanted the one with the chick riding a dragon, not the one with the dude holding a sword!"
15:11 Colin I've seen others who think the same isbn is ok even if the change text, author and title!!
15:10 Colin publishers practice differs (surprise!) Some of the big paperback publishers used to change isbns if they changed the cover
15:08 collum A new ISBN is required for a revised edition. But I'm not sure if it is for reprints.
15:06 owen Okay, I just wanted to make sure I had it straight. Important to have one's facts straight when arguing about the functionality of a hypothetical future enhancement :)
15:03 Colin A lot of books have the isbn added on a sticker it isn't at the edition level they differ but copy level
15:01 owen I'm just questioning whether one could assume it was an exact match
15:01 owen But if my book was *printed* with a 13-digit isbn, doesn't it differ from a book *printed* with a 10 digit one? New edition?
15:00 owen I understand that
15:00 Colin owen: Not according to the isbn agency all 10 digit isbns have a 13 digit representation
14:49 owen But if my copy of a book as a 13 digit UPC and your copy has the 10 digit UPC don't we have different versions of the book?
14:48 schuster I believe that South Central was having some coding done to have Koha verify the check digit to make sure you have a "valid" isbn.
14:47 schuster ? being the check digit.
14:47 schuster ie 978123456789? and 123456789? - actually are the same ISBN the only difference is the last digit.
14:47 schuster There are 10 and 13 digit equivalents. The difference on the 13 is 978 at the beginning and the check digit 13th is different than the 10th digit on the 10 digit ISBN.
14:45 owen Would that be a problem? If you're trying to grab a record based on the UPC you want to get a truly matching record. If a search didn't find anything based on the 13-digit isbn it wouldn't really match?
14:45 schuster I don't know what happens if you did a Z39.50 search against koha... hmmmm May try that in the near future in my spare time.
14:45 gmcharlt reminds me, I need to push my own patch to do that
14:45 schuster Prior to the work Plano ISD had done you had to search BOTH 10 and 13 in Koha to see if you had it. Galen waved his magic wand so now when you search in Koha at least it does the conversion.
14:44 schuster owen - upc - most often now that is the 13 digit ISBN but if the Z server system doesn't do the automatic 10 to 13 conversion you don't get the recod.
14:37 cait :)
14:36 jdavidb hi, cait! :)
14:36 cait hi #koha
14:02 owen You could even configure it to automatically pull the best match from a prioritized list of z39.50 sources
14:02 owen It would be interesting to set up a form where you could scan a book's UPC symbol and do an instant z39.50 search
14:01 owen If you want Koha to do something for you, you have to write that into Koha
14:01 owen bigbrovar: a barcode scanner is basically just a keyboard. It's an input device that sends characters to the computer
13:54 bigbrovar Hi guys I was wondering if its koha support barcode scanner in such a way that I scan a books barcodes and koha fetches all info about the book from the library of congress and the book can be added to the library database. can koha do this on the fly?
13:51 kf have a nice weekend #koha
13:15 magnus what's all this about Ireland? feels like i'm missing something...
13:15 hdl_laptop or will it be changed into a yaml file so that prefs and columns.def could be in the same data structure ?
13:14 gmcharlt hdl_laptop: I'll give it a try over the weekend and see if I can figure something out
13:14 hdl_laptop fredericd: will columns.def be integrated into po file ?
13:13 chris_n g'morning #koha
13:12 hdl_laptop good.
13:11 hdl_laptop I have seen many patches those days cool
13:11 hdl_laptop All records are BUT the latestone.
13:10 hdl_laptop The problem is that the latest record is not processed.
13:10 hdl_laptop any hint ?
13:10 hdl_laptop I am working on batchMod.pl. I have some background stuff going wrong and can't find what to set in order to fix that.
13:08 hdl_laptop hi
13:07 gmcharlt hi hdl_laptop
13:07 hdl_laptop gmcharlt: around ?
13:05 owen schuster: Since Koha 3 was released in summer 2008 I think that wiki page needs some revision
13:04 hilongo Hello #koha! :)
13:02 owen Until yesterday the last edit of that page was 2006-05-10
12:59 schuster I think some of it has been done, but I don't know any of the people noted on the page...???
12:59 schuster In reading the page that was linked from Ireland I found this OPAC enhancement page - http://wiki.koha.org/doku.php?id=future_koha_opac_issues
12:56 jwagner I've lived in the DC area (off and on) for a good many years, and this winter was the most snow I can remember getting here. It wasn't as much as an Indiana winter, but it was certainly impressive for this area.
12:55 schuster I think I heard we had a total of 12 inches which is the second highest in history - not all at the same time though. I think it topped out at about 8 at one time, granted it was all gone the next day...
12:45 collum And I actually saw more than 9 inches of snow for the first time in my life. But Dallas seemed to have more than that this year.
12:43 collum I do have my allergies. I don't miss the heat, humidity, roaches, and scorpions. We do have more spiders here than I have ever seen.
12:42 schuster They were saying on the radio this morning that the pollin count is over 5000 when normally 90 is high.
12:42 schuster or the humidity or allergies probably!
12:35 collum It's gorgeous and I don't miss the commute at all.
12:34 schuster jwagner - thanks will do.
12:34 schuster collum - wow that would be quite the culture shock... But I hear it is quite pretty there.
12:32 collum schuster: I moved to Northern KY from Houston about 7 years ago.
12:32 jwagner schuster, don't know about a client meeting but if that's what LL used to do, then probably. You could check with Patrick on that.
12:31 schuster I'm working with KUDOS to arrange a meeting for KUDOS and it was suggested that maybe the different companies would want to have a meeting right after with some clients? Do you know if PTFS has arranged and "official" meetings with clients at ALA?
12:30 schuster collum where do you reside currently?
12:30 schuster I keep wondering where all these people are working... But I'm happy to have a job - I noticed about 5 houses in my neighborhood that are in foreclosure.
12:29 schuster Still working out what I'm doing there but if you can get in that would be great, my wife would love to share lemonade.
12:28 jdavidb schuster: When I was in high school, our football team (2A) played Southlake-Carroll for bi-district... Two years ago, my daughter's high school football team (5A) beat Southlake-Carroll in regional playoffs..
12:28 jwagner schuster, we'll have to get together then. Maybe for some lemonade :-)
12:28 schuster Since half of Dallas is from OK anyway...
12:28 schuster Won't be long and we will annex OK.
12:27 schuster jwagner HA!!!... I'll be at ALA in DC! My whole family is coming...
12:27 collum Don't you need a passport to cross the Red River?
12:27 schuster We moved there 12 years ago with about 20,000 people and dirt roads... We've grown quite fast. Now Prosper and Celina are the places to move... We'll be OK before you know it.
12:27 jwagner schuster, let's just say I've been to enough library conferences to SERIOUSLY doubt the lemonade story.
12:26 collum Wow! That's where we went to the sticks to see the Drive-in movie.
12:26 schuster jwagner what no lemonade?
12:26 jdavidb All ten of us who showed up at the Automation & Technology Roundtable meeting used to giggle about that...
12:26 schuster collum - You should see Frisco! I live there and we hit 100,000 people can't wait to see what the census does this year.
12:26 jwagner There's a reason I don't go to ALA....
12:25 schuster Hey - who said librarians can't let their hair down?
12:25 * collum remembers when Plano was in the sticks, and the only reason to go there was to buy beer, because Richardson was dry.
12:25 jdavidb 8,000 crazy librarians--is the "crazy" part mostly because *most* of the ones that go to TLA are K-12 folks, schuster?
12:25 schuster shhhh don't tell my boss we do something else ;)
12:24 schuster Presenting on a panel discussion with the NTRL(North Texas Regional Library System Evergreen Consortium)
12:24 * jwagner doesn't believe the part about all drinking lemonade
12:24 jdavidb Dunno where they got those numbers; both are inflated about sixfold over what I know about.
12:24 schuster Busy week next week we have TLA(Texas Library Association Conference) probably 8,000 crazy librarians in San Antonio along the river walk all drinking lemonade ;)
12:24 * jwagner has the bruises to prove it, too....
12:22 schuster I have 67 libraries so I'm big, but I do know that "The bigger you are the harder you fall" and being short I can attest to that!
12:22 jwagner schuster, are you trying to pick a fight this early in the morning :-)
12:21 schuster Not sure there are that many libraries in Kansas.... ;)
12:21 schuster I just read this from the Ireland website and had to chuckle - Northeast Kansas Library System has 116 branches and over 2 million records.
12:20 schuster wizzyrea you hear or is that a phantom?
12:20 jdavidb hi, schuster! :)
12:20 schuster Howdy all!
12:17 jwagner G'morning, all

11:58 hdl_laptop hi magnus hi miguel
11:44 miguel do you think about?
11:44 miguel I think we could use it to avoid having to maintain different templates.
11:44 miguel he told me that was not planned to include multilanguage in this development
11:43 miguel I was talking to Chirs, on the grounds of Perl template toolkit integration
11:37 magnus hi miguel
11:35 miguel hi all
08:35 kf hdl_laptop: did a grep on Control-number when I got really frustrated :)

08:16 hdl_laptop kf oh.... bloody hell. We should get that from files or make that come into database.

08:15 hdl_laptop hi magnus
08:15 kf hdl_laptop: im not sure it made the difference, but I added my indexed to getIndexes() in Search pm too
08:15 kf hdl_laptop: my index problem?
