00:00 davidnind I have no slides... and I'm going to tempt the demo gods by doing some live editing (if I have time)...
00:00 dcook You can do it davidnind!
00:01 dcook I have a friend who did a 2 minute lightning talk where she live coded a Python program which wrote, compiled, and ran a C++ program without any errors. I think she almost got a standing ovation heh
00:01 dcook So you can do it :D
00:01 marie-luce demo are the best presentation!
00:02 dcook Maybe I could do a demo in the future...
00:02 * dcook never knows what to talk about at Kohacon
00:03 cait davidnind: you already won the audience over with your 2! previous talks so I think you will be fine :)

00:04 oleonard I'm thinking that next year it will have been 12 years since my OPAC customization talk, maybe it's time to bring it back ;)
00:05 oleonard In fact I can probably just re-use the old talk... Nothing much has changed has it?
00:05 cait oleonard: definitely :)

00:12 tuxayo «dcook never knows what to talk about at Kohacon» You have a lot to talk about your very diverse Koha installations!
00:13 tuxayo That could help a lot people who can't use Debian or Ubuntu.
00:13 tuxayo And also the general challenges and possible strategies around that. (distro packages, cpan, carton, etc)
00:13 dcook Hmm that's a good point
00:14 dcook Cheers tuxayo :)
00:14 dcook Even if we are moving to just Debian/Ubuntu heh
00:14 tuxayo \o dcook
00:15 dcook Maybe something about background tasks and schedulers at some point down the road too..

00:27 cait I was wondering if we should have a virtual hackfest maybe ... as it looks like marseille next year is not going to happen as well

00:42 caroline I'm having trouble with my sphinx again...
00:43 caroline I'm trying to install sphinxcontrib-spelling, which requires PyEnchant
00:43 caroline So I try to install PyEnchant, and it installs version 2.0.0, but sphinxcontrib-spelling requires version 3.1.1 (from what I understand of the error messages)
00:44 caroline is there a way to force it to update&
00:44 caroline I tried pip update PyEnchant, but it says update doesn't exist

00:55 davidnind caroline: I think it has to do with the version of Python - Unbuntu 18.04 has version 2 and 3 installed, find the package name for spelling with the 3 in it (I think - it was a while ago)
00:55 caroline Yeah I was just looking at my python version

01:19 dcook Interesting info on Wikidata: https://www.quora.com/Does-wik[…]datastore-is-used
01:20 dcook As the years go by, it seems to me that triplestores are used the same way as a search engine like Solr/Elasticsearch
01:20 dcook Store the actual data as a blob in an SQL database, and then just "index" that in the triplestore...
01:22 caroline I guess that can all be linked to open data (like govt data)?
01:23 caroline dcook: linked data would be an interesting conference talk :)

01:24 caroline what is it, what does it eat in winter? how it is used in ILSs, how it is used in Koha (if at all)
01:24 dcook Yeah that's the stuff bit heh
01:24 dcook We need to work out how to use it in Koha first
01:24 dcook Although as time goes on, I get a better idea of what it should look like
01:25 * oleonard reads the scrollback to learn that caroline is having trouble with sphinxes and pythons, oh my!
01:25 dcook heh
01:25 caroline yeah, sorry for spamming...
01:25 oleonard It's not spam, I love hearing about your menagerie
01:25 caroline I'm actually in the Tri-Wizard tournament at the moment, trying to stun all those creatures...
01:25 dcook I have been trying to drum up interest in non-library open gov data
01:26 dcook So now I'm actually thinking how we could output that as RDF..
01:26 dcook The thing about WikiData is that it has critical mass
01:26 dcook It has lots of useful information
01:26 dcook But I'm not sure how a library would necessarily have very useful machine readable data
01:26 dcook (Other than in terms of copy cataloguing)
01:27 dcook Maybe if a central library/union catalogue used OAI-PMH or something to get RDF from member libraries
01:27 dcook Although they'd have to use compatible schemas still..
01:28 caroline What I'd love to see is links to author bios in OPACs and such things
01:28 dcook Thinking back to davidnind's example, maybe it could be useful for visualization collections too..
01:28 dcook Yeah, authority data is an interesting example
01:28 caroline vizualization++
01:29 marie-luce that would be fantastic

01:29 dcook So here's the RDF for a Mark Twain VIAF record: https://viaf.org/viaf/138978451/rdf.xml
01:30 dcook So apparently wikidata pages are stored as "pages" in mediawiki..
01:30 dcook Maybe "Koha" pages would be useful..

10:10 huginn Bug http://bugs.koha-community.org[…]_bug.cgi?id=25700 minor, P5 - low, ---, koha-bugs, NEW , Recent Kohacons are missing from the timeline
10:10 severine_q do you have some time for me ?
10:10 severine_q or maybe someone else ? :)
10:12 ashimema fire away.. always happy to help :)
10:12 severine_q thanks !!
10:12 ashimema ooh..
10:12 ashimema that one
10:12 wahanui that one is, like, running fine for me
10:13 severine_q when i edit the history.txt file, i can see number beggun the lines, where do they come from ?
10:14 ashimema it's an 'epoch' date
10:14 ashimema which is basically /seconds since 1970
10:14 severine_q ok
10:14 ashimema https://www.epochconverter.com/
10:14 ashimema got things like kohacon events you can use a website (like above) to manually grab a date
10:15 ashimema for the commit authors and things we grab it from the git logs
10:15 severine_q ok
10:16 ashimema interesting.. there's loads of Kohacon's missing from the timeline
10:16 severine_q so i'm supposed to modify the .txt file, adding new lines for each missing KohaCon and adding this epoch date
10:16 severine_q am I right ?
10:16 ashimema that would be perfect :)
10:17 severine_q great ! I'll try something and hope it'll be fine :)

10:24 ashimema It'll be great to have them on here
10:25 ashimema I feel the timeline has gotten a little out of hand.. it would be great to add filtering to it at some point.. or give it a more interactive visual display :)
10:25 ashimema I lvoe that we celebrate every new developer and ever release.. but you can end up not seeing the wood for the trees
10:26 eythian https://archive.org/details/marygrove "In October 2020, the collection of Detroit-based Marygrove College Library, comprising more than 70,000 books and journals, starts a new life online with the support of the Internet Archive." A short doco on the digitisation of a closing library.
10:26 ashimema very cool

11:26 kohaputti The state of Finnish translations is not that great currently in Koha 20.05, I'm thinking of asking lots people to help us get it in better condition but I don't know if we should start our efforts after the 20.11 string freeze (11th november) or whether it would be useful to start it already know. My question here is whether most of the 20.05 translated strings will be lost after the new string freeze and translations files are
11:26 kohaputti uploaded for 20.11.

11:31 ashimema were people still having issues this morning with sandboxes
11:31 ashimema struggling to replicate any issues that were reported last night
11:43 kidclamp ours still seem to be broken ashimema
11:44 ashimema interesting
11:44 nlegrand in hold.js, the line  data += " " + __("at %s").format(oObj.waiting_at); gives me a Untranslatable string found (at %s) - See coding guideline JS5
11:45 * ashimema runs up a bywater sandbox to to inspect the provision logs
11:45 nlegrand it puzzles me, because it comes straight from Bug 25321 and I don't see what's wrong regarding the guidlines
11:45 huginn Bug http://bugs.koha-community.org[…]_bug.cgi?id=25321 enhancement, P5 - low, ---, oleonard, Pushed to stable , Move translatable strings out of strings.inc into the corresponding JavaScript
11:45 nlegrand also I mimicked it for Bug 24412 as now it's a qa-tool error for me also :)
11:46 huginn Bug http://bugs.koha-community.org[…]_bug.cgi?id=24412 enhancement, P5 - low, ---, nicolas.legrand, Failed QA , Attach waiting hold to desk
11:46 nlegrand Is it some kind of false positive or did I miss something?
11:47 ashimema the only difference I know of locally is that we have a 2 minute wait during provisioning instead of 1 minute.. I think I added the extra minute because our server was very slow to get the container going on occasions and it fails spectacularly if the container isn't there when the next command runs.
11:48 ashimema hmm
11:48 ashimema that feels odd nlegrand
11:48 ashimema jajm around ?
11:48 ashimema I must admit.. I'm not yet close enough to fully interpret that error
11:49 davidnind left #koha
11:51 ashimema kidclamp.. maybe try the hard core 'docker system prune -af' to fully cleanup all images etc.. we had loads of stuff hanging around this morning on our when I checked..
11:51 ashimema then re-run the sandbox setup script
11:52 nlegrand ashimema: ho! It may be a tab problem!!! (I edited it with an editor not well configured)
11:52 kidclamp passing that to khall_
11:56 nlegrand ho, no it wasn't...

12:14 TimothyAlexis I'm thinking, when adding items using cgi-bin/koha/cataloguing/additem.pl?biblionumber=<some numbe>, the new_status should be set.
12:19 TimothyAlexis and I'm wondering if it should. :)
12:26 fridolin TimothyAlexis: sure, a newly created item should have "is new" defined (1 for example)

13:14 oleonard The real mystery about vampires is where do they get their wardrobe budget
13:15 cait lol
13:20 cait kohaputti: i just see your translation question in the logs -did you get an answer already?
13:21 kohaputti no answer yet
13:21 cait when you translate 20.05 and the exact same string is in 20.11 Pootle will suggest it
13:21 cait in that case it shows in light grey in the box and you can just submit after a quick check
13:21 kohaputti ok, so then I think best to wait for 20.11 string freeze to not have to do double work
13:21 cait AND if you have a lot of difference in already translated Bernardo has some magic scripts to update one transltion file from the other
13:22 cait ALSO as 20.11 files do not exist yet - you got on problem at all. the same strings will be moved
13:22 cait we only have to translate new and changed (they turn fuzzy for rechecking) thankfully
13:23 cait i am still struggling with the relator terms in the installer files...
13:23 kohaputti thanks for the info :)
13:24 cait the 20.11 files will be built from the 20.05 files
13:25 kohaputti still probably best to wait for 20.11 string freeze to not have to do the translations for removed or changed strings.
13:26 cait you could do that, or start with files that are not likely to change much
13:26 cait but if you don't want to use 20.05 waiting should be fine
13:26 kohaputti just one month so waiting is okay :)
13:28 cait i think he might make the files available a bit earlier
13:28 cait he ususally does for getting people started if they want
13:28 cait and then updates again on string freeze
13:28 kohaputti good to know :)
13:29 kohaputti with the two weeks that is between freeze and release it would require a massive amount of people working at the same time doing translations
13:29 cait and it's boring
13:29 kohaputti (since there is bunch of untranslated stuff in finnish)
13:30 cait you will also never be done with refining
13:30 cait we still spot typos and such that when you start fixing htem turn out ot have been there for like 10 versions :)
13:34 cait always happy to help with any translation questions
